Advertising tracking… Do you do it? Everyone would like to know what could work best for them and their business; what strategy to employ and how to apply it successfully to their business model. Unfortunately, we do not have crystal balls and, as regrettable as it may sound, we need to go back to basics: Trial and Error. When creating advertising campaigns for either online media, print media or television and radio there are certain things we can do to ensure that we monitor and adapt our advertising packages to be certain that action we are taking is accomplishing its primary objectives and achieving results. The average advert needs to be seen in printed media or online at least 7 times for the general eye to recognise the advert and to react to it. That’s a vast amount of advertising. This weakened the spell, finally allowing “El Coco” to break free. The result: he is now back to his mischievous ways, harming and terrorising the children of the world, and he is said to be hiding somewhere in the vast territories of South America. This story is one of the two parallel realities we will experience in the documentary. On one hand we will witness FurgoNana´s hunt for El Coco, using animation, as she explores the colourful continent progressively tightening the net around the villain. On the other, as part of the quest, we will investigate the evils caused by El Coco in a real life documentary, simultaneously compiling an arsenal of traditional bedtime songs with which to confront him. By the end of the trip reality and fiction will merge into a truth we somehow envisioned all along. El Coco is nowhere to be found, and if he ever existed, he must have returned to become a part of every one of us. This is María Royo and Antón Calderón´s second documentary, and first feature film. Their first, “Rediscovering Pape”, was a student Emmy and Oscar winner, and enjoyed great success on the international festival scene. “FurgoNana” is supported by the Gib Easy and we encourage you to tune in to the project. It will be available in a wide variety of formats which actively encourage audience engagement. Much of the film’s production depends on an Internet outreach strategy. Funding, research and much of the production infrastructure depend on the support raised in the long months of pre-production, support that María and Antón intend to build on and nurture throughout the project. In exchange, the film will be available online as an interactive web documentary, whose production can be followed in real time, together with a video blog and an impressive collection of traditional lullabies. Tablet and Smartphone applications are soon to ensue, and all news and content will also be published via the usual plethora of social networks. If you are interested in children’s issues, lullabies, and have a taste for adventure, find the project online and become a part of the community. Contributions, suggestions and all forms of support are necessary, and will have their reward. Such is the way of the modern day filmmaking.

We will learn about the plight of migrant children in Tijuana, malnutrition problems in Central America, barriers to education in Colombia and desertification in Chile, to name but a few. All of these will be analysed from the focus of how they affect children, and how we can try to help them.

We get most of our core values during our imprint period between the ages of 0-7 years. We naturally pick these up from our family, support groups, religion and schools which influence us when we don’t have the exposure to experiences to make informed judgments of our own. Then when we enter our “modelling period” between the ages of 7 – 14 a point where we adopt “role models” that can come from our peer groups, music icons, sports-people, fictitious characters and of course “THE MEDIA”. If you think about the people you know you can actually see the difference in values thinking through the generations. People that grew up in the 70’s with Superman as a role model promoting goodness, protection to others and common decency in the name of mankind could have a very different set of values from people who grew up in the 90’s and 00’s with “Bart Simpson” as a role model whose total outlook is “I didn’t do anything no nobody seen me do it”! For those fortunate enough to still have elderly relatives that grew up during difficult times (after the war) you will notice how important “prudence” is to these people – “saving for a rainy day” and making full use of everything compared to our current “throw it away and I want it now” society values. Unfortunately some unwelcome and inappropriate values can remain with us too even though they don’t add any benefit or attain social credibility such as racism, radicalism and sexism. Behaviour is infectious and at a young age we are highly influenced by those we perceive in situations of power even though we may not feel right about it. Think about the confusion the “do as I say not as I do” adult creates in the highly influential young mind by telling the young person smoking is bad for you yet sneaking a crafty cigarette on the terrace thinking no one is looking. With the advancement of Neuro Linguistic Programming we now know that our deep values can be changed (it wasn’t previously believed possible) and that values themselves have a hierarchy of importance which in turn drives our “motivation”. So in essence we can say that our top 6 deep structure values really determine and reflect what we do in life. Gib Easy Magazine
To hopefully explain a bit more little simply let’s take the values area of Health and Fitness for example and a case study of a person who is to be perpetually on a diet of some sort. Now our “serial dieter” like most adults knows that to lose weight you need to create a calorie deficit. Although we may not know the whole mechanics, we also we have a good idea that this requires a balanced diet combined with a sensible exercise programme. So what prevents us from doing this naturally? And why do we continue to pay for products and programme information on things we actually already know? Answer: Incongruent Value systems and Inner conflict (Negative emotions) When we work with this particular client situation we start our intervention eliciting what’s important to our serial dieter about the “new” diet programme they are about to embark on and why they are doing it. They nearly always give me a great big list of reasons based entirely on what they don’t want!! – “I don’t want to be fat anymore”, “ I’m sick of looking like this or that”, “I don’t want to keep feeling depressed because of how I look” ! “I don’t want to loose my husband because of my shape”….All away from thinking. Now a totally different person embarking on the same programme with a deep structure “towards” value will likely tell you “I want to be healthy”, “I want to have more energy”, and “I want to be able to enjoy my family’s activities more…etc. Notice the difference in the language? We speak how we think.

Another important factor Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) tells us is that our neurology is totally geared to creating the behaviour to get us what we focus on! Now recall the fact that Values take us towards or away from things that we either want or don’t want. So now we now know that “we get what we focus on” you can see why having “away from” values actually only brings you more of what you don’t want in the long run!! Because by focussing on what you don’t want actually only attracts you more of the same thing. We don’t do it on purpose but our unconscious thoughts, values and beliefs are self fulfilling prophesies.

However these are conscious “surface” level values and big picture, still important to us, but actually not the real driving force behind our behaviours and decisions! Deep Structure Values on the other hand are actually very deep unconscious filters within our neurology and for most parts remain totally out of our conscious awareness. They are what provide us movement and purpose - they let us know what is good or bad before and after events (kinaesthetic feeling) they take us either towards or away (Important to remember this) from things and we will gladly spend time, energy and resources on them. They are not necessarily what we like! For example: You may place no direct importance in doing the housework, however you still do it with gusto because you value a clean house in-case someone comes round unexpectedly – at work someone may detest filing yet still do it because they value being able to find important documents easily when required. Either way without a value we have no motivation. And the intensity of our motivation is therefore determined by the hierarchy of the value.
And this is why people sometimes feel incongruent in life – their conscious mind says “I want to do this” however at deep structure level the values simply do not support this idea and get the feeling that we are working hard to achieve and getting no where. It also explains why we can still feel deflated when we still actually achieve something – simply because at deep level it isn’t valued.
Leisure
If you were to ask someone, “What are your values?” most people with little thought will be able to tell you quite easily, what’s important to them…or at least what they think they should value! And their answers would probably revolve around highly moral and traditional values depending on their culture and environment and will likely follow a pattern such as family, career, religion and spirituality, relationships etc.
