You May Be Missing These (Free!) OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS
Promoting your business is hard work and takes time and effort.
You’ve likely already tried posting on social media and experimenting with paid ads and perhaps seen some results. In this article, we'll go through some ways to grow your business that you may not have tried.
BUILDING YOUR OWN ONLINE PRESENCE

Guest posting can be a credible (and fun!) way of building your presence online. Look for blogs, websites or online magazines in your industry. Think of this as a way to showcase your expertise in your chosen profession. By building your credibility online — and having your name and website attached to anything you publish — you are indirectly promoting your business.
Guest posting on sites with a large readership puts your business in front of a large audience who could potentially become your customers.

There are several ways to ask your customers to leave a review:
4 Verbally: When you’re onsite carrying out the customer’s requested service. Make sure you have business cards with your website on them or encourage them to review you on Yelp or other sites.
4 On your website: On your front page and on any page where you list your services, add a call to action where you ask people to leave a review about their experience with you.

AFFILIATE PROMOTION
Affiliate promotion is one of the oldest ways to earn money online and is a way to encourage your customers to promote your services for you.
Essentially, you offer a product or service that you then encourage people to promote through a unique web link. Should anyone buy through that link, you then pay the promoter a percentage of the sale.
There is much more involved in setting up an affiliate program. Still, for those wanting to know more, Hootsuite offers an in-depth look at affiliate programs and their administration.

Managing a Portable Restroom Rental Business Through a
It may always seem like there’s too much to do and that there will never be time to bother making a formal plan for crisis management. Yet, we’ve seen that the world is more unpredictable than we may have once believed. We also know that businesses that had positioned themselves best to manage through a crisis were at a great advantage during the economic shutdown over the past couple of years. Having a durable crisis management plan for every type of possible disaster can prevent collapse or severe damage to your business’s brand and its financial health and sustainability.
WHICH DISASTERS NEED CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLANS?
Of course, the range of possible catastrophic events that can impact your business is vast, including regional natural disasters and national economic crises. Others may include social unrest, building fires, extended power outages, terrorist attacks, or oil spills. More ordinary but nevertheless destructive developments can include supply chain breakdowns, employment market changes, materials shortages, and others. Internal crises can include the loss of company leaders, sabotage, fraud, embezzlement, lawsuits, and many other adverse developments.
WHAT SHOULD THE PLAN INCLUDE?
Building a crisis leadership team, creating a practical crisis management plan, and visualizing how each type of crisis could be expected to impact the operations is the starting point. An effective plan would emphasize the expectation of flexibility in the team. It would account for staff training on how to follow the plan in an emergency, and it would provide a clear picture of each individual’s role in it. It would also provide guidance on assessing and responding to emerging situations. It would also emphasize avoiding a state of uncertainty by keeping all stakeholders informed, including employees, customers, and the public.
The crisis management plan would provide general guidelines and more specific instructions for establishing emergency leadership roles, locations, protocols, and procedures for continuing field services, customer services, maintenance, AR and AP, payroll management, and even sales.
l Form a strong leadership team that projects the relatability and company values that inspire your staff and community in a crisis.
l Assign employees and external service providers with the skills and experience most relevant to the disaster circumstances, such as HR, PR, construction, finance, legal, etc.
l Form a detailed plan for directing employees, allocating resources, and maintaining whatever operations may make sense to continue during the situation.
l Assess your plan’s feasibility, considering how a given
kind of disaster is likely to affect your employees, customers, suppliers, and community.
l Lay out what the leadership team’s initial steps within the first hours and days should be, then for the following weeks and months. Your plan should include encouraging staff to emulate management.
l Update the various parts of the plan as needed to reflect changes in parts of your regular system you may hope to rely on in a crisis, cost changes, other external changes, etc.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR DISASTER PLANNING
There's always too much to do in a busy company. There’s probably never a convenient time to undertake the daunting task of creating a comprehensive business continuity plan. It may seem too hard to find the right time to undertake such a big project that doesn’t even produce revenue. Especially not now, while growth momentum is so crucial. But, note that stability in the continued on page 16

business sector has proven to be an illusion (hence the need for insurance, and a disaster plan).
So, it’s arguably always the right time to make a start on a disaster management plan — and at least get the basic framework in place. It’s sure to be a far worse challenge to manage an oncoming disaster without any plan than it is to do the extra work to create one as you go along during the normal course of doing business.

Even while your team strives to create growth or just stay above water, consider all the worst effects that could be avoided with a strong disaster response plan. Thinking about those realities should encourage business owners to start an initiative to begin building a response plan that at least provides the most general guidance in one or two types of disasters to which your business is most vulnerable.
BEST APPROACH TO CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLANNING
Portable restroom rental businesses are often essential services during various kinds of crises. Being able to weather a disaster and helping others while incurring a limited impact on your business is likely to be due to the quality of your business continuity plan.

MAZNEK SEPTIC TANK SERVICE
To get by and beat the stiff competition in this industry, a septic company has got to do something that no one else does or achieve a level of quality that the competition can't match. In the septic game, that means you're going to get guys who, as Larry Maznek puts it, "Pump and run."
By this he means septic service contractors who do the absolute minimum to meet the requirements of the job with little attention to detail, and probably no cleanup. When it comes to septic service, the best you could expect from this kind of contractor is a sloppy job, which is bad enough. At worst, you're looking at damage to your tank or suffering an unexpected failure. For years, South Central New Hampshire had a problem with this kind of work, and Larry Maznek is out to put a stop to it with something the area sorely needed in septic service, professionalism.
BRINGING QUALITY BACK TO SOUTH CENTRAL NEW HAMPSHIRE
Larry has been in the septic business for four decades. As a lifelong commercial construction professional, he has been involved in many septic installations. But perhaps most importantly, he has seen how septic systems affect job sites, how they settle in the ground, and how they interrelate with other assets on a property. This construction adjacent septic knowledge means he knows what the periphery of a septic system should look like.
Of course, he also knows septic systems through and through. That means Maznek leaves no stone unturned when it comes to quality workmanship and customer service. He became a licensed septic installer/designer in 1990. So he is not only
qualified to install new septic systems, but he can design one to suit your property perfectly. He became a certified evaluator in 2009 and started Maznek Septic Service in 2011.
You might be thinking that that's a little late in the game to get in on the septic business as a lone service provider. But fortunately for Larry and his family, the area was in dire need of a quality septic professional to clean things up. This part of New Hampshire is rich in rivers and lakes, and it's a coastal area with a high water table. So that means septic systems have to be well made and serviced regularly. What's more, the area was plagued with fly-by-night contractors, which is as bad as it sounds.
In 2011, Larry started showing up on job sites and doing quality work where the competition left messes behind. As you can imagine, it didn't take long for him to develop a loyal customer base and a solid reputation. Larry is also a Cessna pilot, and some people joke that he patrols the skies scanning for shoddily-done septic work. He's also the president

of the New Hampshire Association of Septic Haulers, NHASH. So if you're looking for the area's top authority in septic systems, Larry Maznek is your guy. MAZNEK SEPTIC UNIQUE SERVICES
Number one, they offer superior service, and two, they are probably fast. Of course, they are fast. You can't
serve an entire region without being quick on the draw. But Maznek Septic also offers at least one service that's very unique: underground metal detection.
With septic installation, you need to look out for rock formations, high water tables, shifting ground, pipe disruption, and so on. But what about "underground burial sites?" In particular, Larry is concerned about old buried metals that can contaminate the soil and the water table. Rust is toxic, and so are fine metal particulates. If these substances make their way into drinking water, they can pose a severe health hazard.
Even if you're filtering your water, metal corrosion will drive up your filtration costs, and it's unlikely you will get all of it out of the water. So the Maztck company performs metal detection up to six feet below the surface, looking for metal objects. Sometimes they even
continued on page 24
find old oil drums that are an even greater pollution hazard than plain metal.
In addition to this, Maztek does:
4 Pumping: Installation, Grit pits, Grease traps, maintenance
4 Repair: Septic tanks, sewer lines, effluent pumps, drain field aeration
4 Evaluations: Real estate inspections, sewer camera, inspections
4 Installation: Custom septic design, installations
VALUE ADDED SERVICES
Maztek Septic has also been running an authoritative blog since 2012 that offers all the answers homeowners could ever need about septic systems. That's a big plus when it comes to choosing a service provider, and any online marketing professional will tell you the same. Maztek offers information his customers need to make the best choice.

VORTEX WINS TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD
SPOTLIGHT INDEX
(HOUSTON, TX) September 22, 2022 – The Vortex Companies , a leading provider of advanced trenchless water and sewer technologies and infrastructure renewal services, announced today its receipt of the Trenchless Technology Project of the Year Award – Rehabilitation for its extensive work with City of Houston to repair critical infrastructure below one of the City’s busiest arteries.
Vortex’s expertise and versatile Quadex Lining System® (QLS) and GeoKrete® geopolymer enabled nearly 5,700 linear feet of the City’s vast sewer system to be repaired without disrupting commuters, businesses or schools.
Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, operates a sewer system that includes more than 6,000 miles of sanitary sewers, 381 wastewater lift stations and 39 wastewater treatment plants. An inspection identified 2.8 miles of 60-inch sanitary sewer suffering from severe I&I and high likelihood of failure. The corroded section was located beneath Fulton Street, a major roadway that runs through downtown Houston and hosts one of the City’s METRORail light rail lines. As METRORail is used by 40,000 commuters and connects a myriad of medical professionals and visitors to the medical center district, it was imperative to avoid road or light rail closures. City of Houston selected Vortex’s QLS and GeoKrete products for the challenging rehabilitation project.
Following cleaning, extensive patching and repair of the sewer line cracks, voids and offset joints, GeoKrete was spray-applied to non-round areas and obstructions. Additionally, Vortex enabled City of Houston to deploy an innovative, internal bypass system that allowed for wastewater to remain in flow during the entire operation. As a result, the City received a fully structural and rehabilitated corrosion-resistant pipe and restored offset manholes, free of severe I&I, without interrupting traffic or light rail service.
“This project demonstrated an unprecedented level of communication and collaboration among METRORail, TXDOT, the Houston Independent School District, multiple homeowners’ associations and various City of Houston departments, which was critical to the project’s success,” stated Mike Vellano, CEO of The Vortex Companies . “We are delighted to receive this award and honored that municipalities across the globe depend upon our broad range of in-house manufactured trenchless repair solutions to restore complete structural integrity to severely compromised, critical infrastructure without total pipe replacement.”
