GILLS LADIES READY FOR NEW SEASON

During the summer of 2015, Gillingham Ladies had a major change in management and playing personnel. Former assistant manager Jack Wheeler, who was part of the club’s most-successful league campaign in 2013 (in which they finished second in the FA Women’s Premier League South), was brought in to join Darren Hare as joint managers. Following relegation at the end of the 2014/15 season, the Ladies side were looking to bounce straight back. Gills Ladies began the campaign with a convincing 9-0 home win against Bedford LFC, however a 5-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace LFC brought the high hopes back in check. Following the defeat, the Gills Ladies would go on a 13-game

unbeaten run, incredibly recording 10 wins in the process, including an emphatic 13-0 victory at home against Lowestoft Ladies. Yet this consistent set of performances could not see the Gills gain on Crystal Palace Ladies, who retained that top spot. The Gills won their last five games, scoring 20 goals, which saw them secure second spot. Palace remained unbeaten in their 22 games, only dropping four points over the season – two of which came when the Gills drew with them in February’s home match.
