summer Edition // 2016-17
It all began in the 1960s when young Colin Giltrap, a car mad businessman, founded Hamilton luxury car dealership, Monaco Motors. Colin expanded his interests by buying Matamata Motors and then Coutts of Great North Road. Colin has since invested a passion for cars into a portfolio of automotive businesses both here and overseas. Today the Giltrap Group is one of the strongest motor vehicle groups in New Zealand. While Colin continues his interest in business and motor racing, sons Michael and Richard have taken hands-on management roles. Like Colin they love cars, and know it’s how and where they go that matters.

A WORD FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER I normally start these things off by talking about cars from farflung places and about what’s new in our ranges - that will come later, but what I would really like to talk about is my team. Thank you for all your efforts and hard work this year in what is the biggest upheaval Archibald and Shorter has seen. From new ownership, new DMS system, re-development of the building, the extra pressure and compliance from our manufacturers and of course me. We have seen a substantial change and excellent growth this year with turnover up over 40% and gross profit up 30% year-to-date, and you have all stood up and delivered across the board, especially the team at Greenlane who have been operating from half a dealership for most of the year - “don’t worry North Shore, your time will come “. I know we can all see the light at the end of this tunnel, it’s not a train, just some car stackers so hang in there and keep smiling. So with a full year under my belt now, it has been challenging, but a rewarding highlight would have to be the launch of the all-new Jaguar F-pace at the Sir Keith Park Memorial hanger earlier this year. This car has been a real game-changer, and the other highlights getting to experience our annual Land Rover Customer 4X4 day, the passion and enthusiasm from our customers is great “ - believe me there is no holding back with these guys and their machines they love to get dirty. The brands we represent have all had a great year too, with Jaguar more than doubling in volume year-to-date and Volvo some 128 cars ahead of this time last year. I think they are only just getting started when you see what is coming up, and being honest, already here but not widely known. These brands are going from strength to strength, and it’s not surprising when you see what they’re offering. The all new Jaguar F-Pace luxury crossover has set the world alight with its styling, performance, and handling

A Word from the General Manager Team, I can’t believe another year has passed, and what a year it has been. The construction of the new Skoda Showroom is coming to its completion and the pre-delivery team have moved into the new facilities out at Penrose. The Penrose site will be up and running for retail work early in the New Year and will go a long way in enabling Schofields of Newmarket to provide world class service at a location where there is little or no franchise representation.

year for Giltrap IT, with various building projects keeping us on the hop, migration of services such as email to the Microsoft Office 365 environment, and large IT infrastructure replacement projects occurring behind the scenes. We have also experienced a considerable increase in the amount of BAU (Business as Usual) requests/tickets we receive via the Giltrap Service Desk. The increase in requests appears to be generated not only by the addition of new sites to the group, but also in part due to increased staff numbers across the Group. The second half of 2016 has especially seen a considerable increase in the amount of tickets being created and closed within the IT Service Desk particularly if we compare the difference between 2015 & 2016. This increase, along with the various projects currently in progress have led to overall higher ‘average age of case’ results due to the workload put on IT resources however we are doing our best to minimize this where possible. A WORD from the General Manager It’s hard to believe that we are coming toward the end of 2016. Since the last issue we have had a lot going on at Giltrap Prestige. September saw me travelling to Germany for the launch of the new Porsche Panamera – a truly remarkable car with an impressive new engine line up for 2017. I am confident this new model will share as much success as its predecessor did in NZ. Bentley has had another strong year in sales fuelled by the Bentayga, and with the announcement of the Bentayga V8 Diesel, I’m sure demand for this luxury SUV will continue next year. Volkswagen has been powering ahead and with the recent release of the new Tiguan - customer demand has been so strong we have sold out until early 2017 in some models. At the time of writing this, we have just landed the very long-awaited and much-anticipated Amarok V6, the true thoroughbred of Ute’s. This model will be a game-
changer next year and with over 50 pre-sold already - I think it’s already proving to be a winner. Giltrap Porsche had a very successful 4 days at the recent Porsche World Roadshow where Porsche gave a unique opportunity for prospects to experience what a Porsche is truly about with track and slalom events, and an off road course, proving the capability of the entire model range. NZ was very lucky to show its customers and prospects the stunning new Panamera I saw in September – thanks to Porsche airfreighting two cars in for the event. I would like to close off by saying a huge thank you to the entire staff at Giltrap Prestige for their efforts in 2016, it has been a very busy year with lots on and everyone has contributed, so thank you. A Word from the General Manager 2016 has been another busy year for Independent Prestige with some exciting new model releases from both Aston Martin and Lamborghini. Since my last note, much progress has been made on our amazing new dealership at 119 Great North Road. Being directly opposite our current site, it has been great seeing the building evolve at the

all-new Aventador S will be shown. Expect better handling, more power, and revised look (stunning!). The final car that we saw was the incredible new Lamborghini SUV, the Urus, which is due early 2018. There is no doubt this model will set a new benchmark in the performance SUV market. There is no mistaking it for being anything but a Lamborghini with its edgy exterior and retro/sporty interior styling. So, lots to look forward to in 2017. We all can’t wait to move into the new building, I’m sure the wait will be worth it. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Audi The Market and Sales Results Sales growth in New Zealand’s premium market is strong with a 9.6% uplift this year. As of October 2016, Audi has sold just over 1500 vehicles. Growth has been fuelled by the arrival of the new Audi A4 – NZ Autocar Magazine’s 2016 Car of the Year (in its class) - as well as the highly successful Audi Q7. Both the A4 and Q7 have achieved over 60% sales growth in 2016. Similarly, Audi Sport high performance models continue to perform strongly,

We’re currently placed first-equal, globally, in the overall KPI measure for service and technical performance, having only joined the reporting in Jan 2016. The Audi dealer network has also achieved above benchmark results for both Sales and After Sales customer satisfaction (CSS) for the second year running. Great results! Porsche Market News
718 Models
2016 has been a record year for European Motors Limited.
With the introduction of the 718 Cayman in November,
Nationally, 440 Porsches have been registered (November YTD), 178 of these vehicles have been registered by Giltrap Porsche. With a number of fantastic events completed in 2016, including the New Zealand Festival of Motor Racing, Leadfoot Festival & the recently completed PWRS, plus exciting new models, and the news of Earl Bamber joining Brendon Hartley in the Porsche Factory LMP1 919 Hybrid, it has been a fantastic year for Porsche! Product News Panamera
Porsche has completed the transformation of its mid-engine sports cars from separate Boxster & Cayman model lines, to both being under the “718” banner. The 718 designation is a reference to the ground-breaking Porsche sports car of 1957 which enjoyed mighty success in famous car races. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are closer than before, sharing not only design cues but similar technical specifications - both to be powered by the same powerful turbocharged four-cylinder Boxer engine. With the base and “S” models already launched, anticipate further variants in the future.
The second generation Panamera reconciles two contrasting characteristics more than ever before: the performance of a genuine sports car and the comfort of a luxury saloon. It is a Gran Turismo that has been rethought and realigned. In this transformation, Porsche has systematically improved the Panamera concept – with a four-door car that has been redeveloped and redesigned down to the last detail. Its engines and transmissions have been redesigned, its chassis perfected, and its display and control concept reinterpreted for the future – with customer deliveries expected to start from March 2017.
Porsche World Roadshow (PWRS) The Porsche World Roadshow made its 8th visit to New Zealand in November. Based this time at Hampton Downs, this international programme is designed to spread the Porsche “virus” to attendees, most of whom have never owned or driven a Porsche before.
Macan Porsche are expanding its successful compact SUV range with the introduction of a new turbocharged four-cylinder entry level Macan model. With an unladen weight of 1,770 kilograms, the Macan is the lightest SUV made by Porsche, which translates into agile handling.
The numbers for the event speak for themselves: • 440 x Attendees • 11 x Event Days • 20 x Porsche’s shipped out from Germany • 2 x new Panamera’s flown out from Germany • Container of Event Kit shipped out from Germany • 310 Tyres used • 10,000 litres of Fuel used • 440 x Very happy people! Volkswagen What a year and what and adventure we have had at Volkswagen We started the year with a backdrop of the biggest corporate crisis the brand had ever seen and have emerged a strong, more focused and ultimately a more successful team as a result. While our sales volume and market share has largely remained static, the quality of our business has improved out of sight. A couple of key achievements we are particularly proud of; 1. Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Award In the middle of a crisis we focused on what was critical, our customers and this award was a wonderful achievement.

ŠKODA New Zealand Update Sales As we look to wrap up 2016 we reflect on another year of significant growth for Skoda with a 22% increase over 2015, particularly Superb +102% and Fabia + 88%. A total of 1220 registrations push our brand further into the consideration set of the main stream vehicle buyer. When we consider the growth the brand has achieved in recent years, we set ourselves up for the next big leap forward as we enter the large SUV market for the first time with the mighty Skoda Kodiaq in mid-2017. The Kodiaq will not only deliver a significant volume opportunity for Skoda, it will also draw people to the brand that may never have considered Skoda previously. New Product 2017 will see a raft of new product for the brand with facelift Octavia, Superb Sportline and of course the Kodiaq.
Network Development Giltrap Skoda’s CI upgrade will be completed in time for Santa’s visit. The dealership has gone through a significant redevelopment - both interior and exterior. We will also see the opening of another Skoda dealer, Tristram Skoda, on the busy North Shore. Having the brand represented in this PMA has been a focus of ours for some time and we are very excited about the opportunity. By mid2017 we will see all Skoda dealers complete a rebranding of their facilities.
Cycling We start the second season of our Team Skoda cycling events. Bike the Bridge went really well with over 3000 people riding over Auckland’s Harbour Bridge. We’re really looking forward to our next event at Tour de Ranges in Feb. We also congratulated our Skoda Ambassadors, Sam, Ethan, and Eddie, for their amazing Silver Medal Results at the Rio Olympic Games. Greg Leet, General Manager, Škoda NZ
