WINTER Edition // 2016
It all began in the 1960s when young Colin Giltrap, a car mad businessman, founded Hamilton luxury car dealership, Monaco Motors. Colin expanded his interests by buying Matamata Motors and then Coutts of Great North Road. Colin has since invested a passion for cars into a portfolio of automotive businesses both here and overseas. Today the Giltrap Group is one of the strongest motor vehicle groups in New Zealand. While Colin continues his interest in business and motor racing, sons Michael and Richard have taken hands-on management roles. Like Colin they love cars, and know it’s how and where they go that matters.

Daren Lee IT Manager
On the people front, IT have seen some staffing changes this year, notably with the departure of John Malonzo from our IT Service Desk team. John was with us for 3+ years and will be sorely missed, however we wish him all the best for the new opportunity he has taken on. Gineth De Silva (pictured right) has been appointed as a replacement for John’s position, and is quickly learning our systems and sites and getting to know everyone. Gineth joins us from Maori TV, where he was working as a Broadcast Engineer and Helpdesk Technician – we are happy to have Gineth join the team and feel he will be a great fit for our team and for supporting our users.

A WORD FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER In a bit of a blur it’s already a quarter of the way through the year. Here at A&S we’ve picked up where we left off and are continuing to integrate our brands , team and culture into the Giltrap Group and of course increase our presence in the greater Auckland luxury car market in which my team are doing a great job, and having 3 strong brands helps, I might add. In January I was told “dress for the cold - you’re going to Gotenberg Sweden”. This was my first taste of Volvo up close at the world-wide dealer conference “The Burst”. What they should have said is dress for Mt Everest! We were welcomed to the winter wonderland with -19C and 30cm of fresh snow. Volvo has one of the most exciting lineups of new models anywhere, over the next 24 months Volvo are releasing 7 new models to join the already successful and most awarded car in New Zealand last year the XC90. Volvo is a brand that knows itself and is sticking to its strengths - making cars for real people. Volvo is making the rest of the motoring world sit up and take notice, I for one am a changed man on what I thought Volvo was or is. Watch this space. Not to be out done and the other

extremely well and it is hard to believe we are already a third of the way through the year. Time always seems to go quicker when you are busy which it certainly has been at EFS. In fact EFS, has been setting record sales volumes over the last 4 months with March recording our highest volume of business ever transacted in a single month. A Word from the Sales Manager 2016 has been an exciting time for the team at McLaren Auckland as we’ve seen a number of new models launched by McLaren Automotive over the last few months. The 570GT and 675LT Spider both made their public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, shortly after followed by the 570S GT4. For the very first time, McLaren Automotive will be hosting a ground-breaking event in our back yard - Epic New Zealand 2016. Customers will have the opportunity to discover legendary landscapes and award-winning food and wine whilst driving on the most panoramic roads in the world. The 10-day journey from Auckland to Queenstown will feature a wide range of special guests, including Formula One personalities from past and present. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience only available to an exclusive group of customers. We’ll keep you up to date in the future publications of Under the Hood. McLaren Auckland recently held our 570S track experience, where owners and prospects were able to sample the 570S away from the restrictions of the road. Our track programme with Downforce delivered an exhilarating opportunity for our customers where they’re able to enjoy the full potential of their vehicles, sample
the 570S and meet fellow enthusiasts. The second McLaren to ever wear the LT badge, the 675LT Spider has been created in response to worldwide customer demand. Restricted to just 500 examples, the 675LT Spider mimics its coupé sibling with its extensive use of lightweight components, enhanced aerodynamics, increased power, and track-focused dynamics. The first of two coming to NZ is due to hit our shores in the coming weeks! Several weeks ago, we welcomed local driving legend Shane van Gisbergen to our showroom during his time off between races. To celebrate his phenomenal achievement at the Bathurst 12 Hour in the McLaren 650S GT3 we gave away an autographed framed photo to a lucky McLaren fan. A special mention is to be made for McLarens latest list of achievements, with the 570S being named ‘Best Performance Car’ in the UK as well as taking out top prize at the Red Dot Awards for Product Design. The accolades haven’t stopped here, with McLaren also being named ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ by the BBC’s Top Gear Magazine. Until next issue... Luke Neuberger

A Word from the General Manager The 2015/16 Financial year is now behind us and as the saying goes “Hero to Zero”. Like the rest of Group we have enjoyed a positive allround result over the last 12 months with good growth, year on year, in all departments. As we head into the next quarter of the year, we are excited with what is coming, especially the move to our fantastic new dealership across the road later on. Audi The Market and Sales Results Audi has had a strong start to the year with a total of 447 vehicles sold March YTD. Models that are contributing nicely are the long awaited all new Audi A4 which arrived early in February and the Q7 launched late in 2015. Both models offer the latest in Audi technology, driver assistance systems and quality – which bodes well for new models set to land on our shores later this year. Additional highlights were the track based launch event of Audi Sport, our annual Audi Excellence awards and the Audi Twin Cup challenge for the service and technical team members. Marketing Our first event of the year was a combined dealership training,
The A4 recently picked up the 2016 “What Car? Car of the Year” accolade and in keeping with the benchmarks set by the Q7, it sets new standards for vehicles in the compact executive class, bringing new levels of refinement, interior quality and technology. Speaking of awards, the R8 V10 plus continues to turns heads and is the newly crowned “2016 world performance car” at the World Car Awards. Boasting 440kW of power and racing from 0-100 in just 3.2 seconds it is billed as the most powerful and fastest production Audi yet. Not to be outdone are the newly enhanced RS 6 and RS 7 performance cars that offer a potent mix of sportiness and sophistication, not to mention an extra 33kW of power (now 445kW) and 700Nm of torque.

During the week-long event at Hampton Downs, dealership staff, media and a group of Audi customers and prospects were also introduced to the new Audi R8 V10 plus, and the RS 6 and RS 7 performance vehicles. More information on these below. You can now experience the new Audi Sport shop-in shop concept at Giltrap Audi where you’ll find an area devoted to

Parts & Distribution One quarter of 2016 gone already and Christmas holidays are a distant memory. As EMD moves all of our budgeting to a traditional financial year, away from the calendar year we have ended up with this lone 1st quarter of 2016 being effectively a 5th quarter in 2015. Confused? Some of our more analytical people are struggling with calling it quarter 5 but regardless of what we call it, it has gone very well. Targets set for this quarter 5 period (January 1st – March 31st) of the year were set high as we wanted the calendar year to start well. We knew it would be a push to achieve them but that has paid off as all 3 months of the year exceeded target expectations. In fact if we look
