COOKIE KNOWLEDGE Activity idea FOUR: Cookie Rally Kahoot! (virtual)
Activity idea FIVE: Customer Curiosity (in-person) Customers are always RIGHT! There are lots of cookie customers – who all have their own preferences. The only way to learn is to investigate! Send girls around the room with a notecard and pencil to ask the adults in their group – “What’s your favorite cookie AND Why?” After they get an answer – have girls practice telling the adults some facts about the cookies that they are selling! EXAMPLES:
“Every cookie helps girls do great things! The money we earn will help us ___________.”
“We are Girl Scout Daisies and we help lead the largest girlrun business in the world!”
“We are running our own business! With all this practice, we’ll be really great at it by the time we are adults!”
For Junior Girl Scouts – have them ask more detailed questions.
“What are you looking for in a cookie or dessert?” “How do you decide what to buy at the grocery store?”
DOOR-TO-DOOR Objective: Girls will be able to use the skills they learn at Cookie Rally to practice selling Door-to-Door.
Activity idea ONE: Door-to-Door (in-person) 1. Set up the door so that it is sturdy and there is room on both sides for multiple people to stand. OR find an existing doorway, so that girls can get a true experience! 2. Place a set of directions on the front of the door so that parents and troop leaders can help the girls form a line and knock on the door.
How To: 1. The volunteer will be standing behind the door, as if in a house. 2. The girls will form a line in front of the door, and take turns knocking and giving their cookie speech. 3. The volunteer will read one of the given responses, and the girls will practice telling people about their cookies.
When the Girls Arrive: 1. Welcome them. 2. Explain that they will be putting all their cookie knowledge to the test while they practice their Door-to-Door speech. 3. As more girls arrive, you may not be able to explain to each of them what they will be doing as you will be busy answering the door! There will be a set of directions on the front side of the door for parents or troop leaders to read while they are in line so that they can help their girls with the process.
Go
you !
Tip:
Have fun with the scenarios! Change it up from time to time, so that each group of girls hears something a bit different!
DOOR-TO-DOOR Possible Scenarios: You have an allergy – gluten, peanuts, etc. – OR, you’re vegan. You don’t know what kind of cookies you like. Can the girl give you recommendations? You don’t eat sweets. You’d rather make a donation. A customer tells you that she used to sell Girl Scout cookies. A customer buys Girl Scout cookies, then says she wants to come back later to buy more! CHALLENGE for Juniors: Use scenarios where the customer is less interested in purchasing cookies. Have girls ask questions about why the customer is not interested – so they can learn how to handle these responses. Maybe the customer would donate a box instead?
Go
you !
DOOR-TO-DOOR Girl Instructions Hey GIRL! This is your chance to get your door-to-door speech just right! Steps:
Make a line behind the door. When it’s your turn, knock on the door and tell the customer your cookie speech.
The volunteer/customer will answer with a response and you can respond by answering their questions.
Here’s a sample of what you could say: Remember to change it so that it sounds like YOU!
Hello, My name is _______ and I’m selling Girl Scout cookies, so that my troop can ________. Would you be interested in buying some?
While you wait your turn, think about how you’d handle the following situations:
• A customer is allergic to gluten. • A customer doesn’t like sweets. • The customer would like to make a donation instead.
DOOR-TO-DOOR Digital Cookie® Photo Booth Activity idea TWO: Digital Marketing (in-person or virtual)
Say, ‘cookies!’ Set up a booth for teens to take photos and videos for their business pages on Digital Cookie. Provide photo props featuring Girl Scout Cookies®, goals or marketing messages. Girls can even make DIY props out of empty cookie packages! Supplies: • • • • •
wooden craft sticks tape or glue scissors template backdrop (i.e., a solid colored blanket, blank wall or even a green screen)
Top Tip Before they enter the booth, ask them to write down their top online marketing strategies. Then turn the tips into a word cloud and share back with girls after the rally.

DOOR-TO-DOOR Video Guidelines Length of video
• These clips can be short and sweet! Each video should be approximately 30 to 60 seconds long.
Equipment
• Select a location with good lighting. Use your phone light or add some extra lights to the area to help — if available and needed. • You can use a phone to take your video, or if you have a DSLR camera, that is even better. • If you have an external microphone, that is a plus (but not required). • You can ask a family member to film you, or use a tripod to hold your camera still if you have one. Make sure you stay in view throughout the video.
Environment
• Make sure that everything in the background is clean and neat. • Remove any clutter around the room that might be in view of the camera, including on your bed. • If you are on a couch, make sure the cushions are straight and in place.
• You don’t need to put all of them out — just put out one, two or three of your favorites. • You could place them on a coffee table or end table next to the couch, or on a dresser or table in your room. • If you want to take a bite out of a cookie at the end for fun, that’s OK too, as long as you are not talking and eating at the same time! • Make a little sign or poster with your cookie goal (or your troop’s cookie goal) for next season on it, to place next to the cookie packages. • You can talk about your goal, or what your troop plans to do with the earnings.
Be camera ready
• Wear a Girl Scout t-shirt or uniform. • Make sure anything else you are wearing is not too busy (solid color pants are better than a busy print), so the focus is on you. • Wear that smile. Confidence and a big smile are your best accessories!
Speak with confidence
• Look at the camera at the start of the video.
• Please do not have any branded items in view of the video. Please do not wear clothing with visible brand names or logos (except your Girl Scout t-shirt).
• While talking, look at the camera to check in with your audience.
• Please do not have any posters in view of the video (unless you have some posters you made for selling Girl Scout Cookies) — feel free to make those types of posters or signs visible.
• Keep smiling the whole time!
• Make sure there are no other friends or family members in the background who can be seen or heard when filming.
Girl Scout Cookie™ Props
• Place a few Girl Scout Cookie™ packages in the background, so they can be seen in the video.
• At the end of the video, be sure to look at the camera. • Be genuine and sincere, and show happiness, energy and excitement when speaking to your audience.
Prepare by practicing
• Be sure to practice saying your words with your actions before you get started.

Girls will create their own survey to ask people why they buy or don’t buy Girl Scout cookies. They can ask questions such as, “If you buy cookies, how many boxes do you usually buy?” “What kinds of cookies do you buy” “Were you a Girl Scout?” “Why do you buy cookies? Have them create the survey and challenge them to get answers from 10 adults!

Baby Joeys A baby Koala is called a joey. Newborns are roughly the size of jelly beans! Joeys are born blind and earless. Joeys develop in their mothers’ pouches. At six months old, joeys travel on their mothers’ backs.
Habitat and Diet Koalas live in the eucalyptus forests of Australia. Koalas can eat over two pounds of eucalyptus leaves a day! Tree clearing and bush fires threaten their environment.

GIRL BOSS Safety Guidelines The following safety tips are adapted from the Girl Scout publications “Volunteer Essentials”, “Risk Management at Girl Scout Councils” and the “Safety Activity Checkpoints”. For more detailed information on these and other safety practices and procedures, please refer to the aforementioned publications. These safety tips should be shared and discussed with all girls prior to any product sales. They should also be reviewed periodically with the girls, as necessary.
Show you’re a Girl Scout
Wear a Girl Scout membership pin, uniform or Girl Scout clothing (e.g. a Girl Scout T-Shirt) to clearly identify yourself as a Girl Scout.
Use the Buddy System
Always use the buddy system. It’s not just safe, it’s fun.
Be street wise
Become familiar with the areas and neighborhoods where you will be selling Girl Scout products. Contact your local police department if you’re unsure about an area or neighborhood.
Partner with adults
Adults must accompany Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies and Juniors when they are taking orders, selling or delivering product. Girls in grades 6-12 must be supervised by an adult when selling door-to-door and must never sell alone. Adults must be present at all time during cookie booth sales.
Plan ahead
Be prepared for emergencies, and always have a plan for safeguarding money.
Do not enter
Never enter the home or vehicle of a person when you are selling or making deliveries. Avoid selling to people in vehicles, except at designated drive-thru cookie booths.
Sell in the daytime
Sell only during daylight hours, unless accompanied by an adult.
Protect privacy
Girls’ names, home addresses or email addresses should never be given out to customers. Protect customer privacy by not sharing their information except as necessary for the product sale.
Be safe on the road
Always follow safe pedestrian practices, especially when crossing at intersections or walking along roadways. Be aware of traffic when unloading product and passengers from vehicles.
Be Net wise
Girls must have their parent’s/guardian’s permission to participate in all online activities, and must read and agree to the GSGATL Internet Safety Pledge before conducting any online activities. MONEY MATTERS Objective: Girls will learn the basics of how to count money for their cookie sales. They will also create a Cookie Pricing Card for quick reference when selling. Girls will learn about selling to give back!
Activity idea ONE: The Price is RIGHT! Bring a few random items from your pantry ( mayo, mac n cheese, pizza box (empty), etc.). Have the girls guess whether the price of the item is higher, or lower than the cost of cookies. Materials: Miscellaneous pantry items.
Activity idea TWO: Pricing Cards Give each girl a pricing card (or just use an index card). Have them use the fake money to count out the price for each “box” of cookies. Once they complete their pricing card, they can use it in the future as they are sharing prices for customers.
