Video Art Miden " Space to communicate!" Thinking ironically on the concept of Territorialities [ 30 min] Curated by Margarita Stavraki

How do we use space in order to communicate ownership or occupancy. What impact has on us and on the others? In this selection we have a series of different readings of space and the relationships that develop in it. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

_____________ Synopses 1. Angela Mandilari, The Imaginative Space of Dance, London 2003

This work constitutes a part of a more general exploration of the shift from the optically structured space to the non-directional homogeneous space of dance. An illusion is created from reality; from the physical movement - gesture and the spatial-temporal aspects of the human body. 2. Panagiotis Voulgaris, “Vessels, Greece 2012

Architecture could be the vessel of unraveling the boundaries, to convey an ethos capable of resisting to this difficult period, shaping a broader future and celebrating heterogeneity. Meeting is Architecture and architecture creates a place for meeting, becomes a message of tolerance and hope, a manner of understanding and co existing. 3. Anna Vasof, Time Travel, Greece 2017

Time Travel is the concept of movement a human between certain points in time, analogous to movement between different points in space, using a device known as a time machine.

4. Evi Stamou, Overexposed, Greece 2015

‘Overexposed’ explores the building of a private space enclosed within a public one. The ability to isolate oneself in a public space leads to the creation of a safe incubator that allows one’s inner vision to grow, achieving a deeper introspection, and reach the other side of the looking glass. As a machine that, once set in motion, cannot stop, the Self, struggling to grasp its own essence, has to carry its examination to the furthest point and face the reversed mirror image of the Other. 5. Aggeliki Bozou, Superm’s diary-Chapter 03:You and I, Greece 2015

The unit You and I is an allegoric reference to the “stranger” that exists around and within us. The video begins with a comment on Man Ray’s artwork, Hands by Picasso (1935). The lens of the camera records on top view two hands. The one is painting the other using black ink. After this action, the two hands will never again have the same color when they are facing the same side. This leads to a change of landscape and transfers us into a virtual battlefield, where decorative porcelain figures are destroyed by a hammer. Those porcelain figures represent the time of prosperity, welfare, enjoyment and romance for many European cultures. 7. Anna Vasof, Aiming, Greece 2015

"Aiming" describes the outcome, of striving, of intending, of directing efforts, of guessing, of pointing a gun.

8. Athina Souli & Stavros Symeonidis, The Multiself project, Greece 2014

The liquid space between the two. The uninterrupted search for the I, through the senses of the Other. A complex process that includes the material of identities, integrations, projections, internalizations. 8. Marilia Chrysospathi, Bolsa de Arena, Greece & Uruguay 2014

A world of shadows hidden in plain sight. We use space to communicate ownership or occupancy. Will you choose to be the victim or the aggressor? Maybe both.
