Fight to stop ‘expat’ cuts TOWN HALLS across Alicante are being urged to fight the proposed axe to the provincial government’s budget for its Department of Foreign Citizens. by Jack Troughton
Diver gets tyred out
Less bovver with a diver
By Jack Troughton DIVERS PICKED up over 300kg of rubbish from the seabed during a well-planned operation at Javea’s Cala del Ministre last weekend. The 31 volunteers from the Cabo la Nao Diving Club worked underwater inside an area of 120 square metres off the coast. Amongst the debris were tyres from the moorings at La Fontana – swept into the sea during the storms of 2007.
IT IS feared that some services – including care for the elderly – will be badly affected as a result and it is hoped all councils will pass a motion calling for the status quo to be restored. The Diputacion de Alicante launched its ‘Project Optimiza’ in 2011 aimed at funding activities undertaken by local authorities with a significant population of expat residents. However, despite having a budget of over 193 million Euros this year, the money for the programmes undertaken under the project is scheduled to be 142,300€ down by 107,800€ on 2014. And it is feared grants to
councils, associations, charities and non-profit organisations will vanish as a result. The expat community makes up 25% of the province’s population and in the past the Diputacion’s Department for Foreign Residents has been behind activities and initiatives heralded “a great success”. These have included information campaigns, integration programmes, consultation services and resident care, census campaigns and Spanish courses. Javea Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Foreign Citizens Oscar Anton has drawn up a motion for his own council and sent it to colleagues across Marina Alta asking them to support it. Gandia’s ‘first class’ hospital GANDIA’S NEW hospital should open the doors to its first patients by the end of March said Mayor Arturo Torro this week. by Jack Troughton THE HOSPITAL ‘Francesc de Borja de Gandia’ has been built in the town’s Sanxo Llop district and is scheduled to open in the last week of next month. Mr Torro has visited the new building with Valencia President Alberto Fabra, Minister of Health Manuel Llombart, and Finance Minister Juan Carlos Moragues. And afterwards the mayor told a council meeting how the medical facility was “first class” with “magnificent” single rooms for patients – stressing that people living in the La Safor district should be proud. The mayor said the much-needSite ed hospital was “one of the best in workers Spain” and thanked the Valencia at the new Government for its part in making hospital the project a reality.
Brutal fight in the street in Xativa A GROUP of drivers got out of their cars in the middle of the main thoroughfare in Xativa, west of Gandia, on Sunday and immediately began to punch and kick each other, observed by astonished road users and pedestrians. Their cars were left with doors open and engines running as the brutal brawl continued for several minutes until one of the men received a severe blow to the face and fell to the ground. He jumped up, got back into his car and drove away. The other men involved in the fight followed suit shortly afterwards and onlookers were left wondering what on earth had prompted such an ugly display of anti-social behaviour.

Spanish researchers develop geolocation system to fight terrorism by Jan Gamm RESEARCHERS FROM the Ramón Llull University in Barcelona have created a system capable of geo-locating videos by comparing their audio-visual content with a worldwide multimedia database. They claim this
could help find missing persons through posted images on social networks and particularly to identify locations of terrorist execution. The system attracted particular interest following the recent release of 24 Egyptian Christians brutally beheaded on a beach supposedly near Tripoli. However, experts who observed that the terrorists in the clip appear to tower over their captives at around 7 feet tall, prompting a
detailed analysis that revealed the video was tampered with and the scenes were likely shot in a studio or alternative location before a green screen, with special effects used to produce the red sea. The new system utilises audio and visual information to pinpoint a location. It is capable of locating 3% of videos within a ten-kilometre radius of their actual geographical location, and in 1% of cases accurate to one kilometre.

New Guardia Civil online system for denuncias A STATEMENT from the Interior Ministry on Saturday confirmed that the Guardia Civil’s ‘virtual office’ is now in operation with online denuncias taking priority. You simply lodge your complaint via www. guardiacivil.es and ratify your report in person within three days at a Guardia Civil station. However, the internet facility will not process reports that involve physical violence where names are mentioned. And if you would like to get up to speed on how the system works you can access a tutorial via YouTube.
Duke of Palma too broke to pay his taxes
IÑAKI URDANGARIN Duke of Palma says he does not have enough cash to pay his tax debts to the Treasury. A 253,705€ tax bill is urgently outstanding after he failed to pay his IRPF income tax in 2009. Urdangarin is the joint owner of a €6.95 million mansion in Barcelona shared with his wife the Infanta Cristina. The property is currently on the market but is embargoed against the Duke’s civil bail of €8.2 million while he is under investigation in the Noos fraud case.

Rajoy pledges economic success for 2015 IN A state of the nation debate on Tuesday PP Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy presented his party’s successful belt-tightening policies as the power behind the country’s economic recovery.
Rajoy promising half a million jobs for 2015
by Jan Gamm HE REMINDED the assembly that the PP’s stringent cuts and austerity programmes had saved Spain from economic disaster and led the country to a 1.4 per cent growth in economy in 2014, the first full year of economic growth since 2008. He also said that more than half a million jobs would be created in 2015. Socialist opposition leader
Pedro Sanchez didn’t see the events of the last seven years in quite the same light, contending that life for Spaniards has never been as precarious as it is today. And new party Podemos, formed just one year hence, is representing a new challenge to both the socialists and the Partido Popular. Recent polls show that alleged corruption within the PP is its biggest hurdle to achieving election victory.
ETA terrorist arrested in Rome ETA TERRORIST Carlos García Preciado, one of Spain’s ‘most wanted’ – commonly known as ‘Roberto’ – has been arrested in Rome by Italian police collaborating with Spanish national police. He had been on the run since 2000 after he was sentenced to 16 years in jail for terrorist offences in 1997. Spain’s Ministry of the Interior confirmed on Wednesday that Preciado was carrying forged documents when he was apprehended.
Measles returns to Europe THE WORLD Health Organisation (WHO) has called for an immediate increase in vaccination against Measles - a disease thought to be on the wane in recent years - following a number of outbreaks in European countries. Seven countries reported 22,149 cases of Measles last year and in the first two months of 2015. Measles is a serious respiratory disease (in the lungs and breathing tubes) that causes a rash and fever: it is very contagious and in rare cases can be deadly. It begins with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes and later tiny red spots start on the head and face and spread to the rest of the body. The disease affects mostly children but adults are also at risk.

Thieves target airport
TRAVELLERS ARE being urged to watch out for thieves at Alicante Airport and especially criminals who prey on passengers collecting hire cars at the terminal. by Jack Troughton The British Consulate has warned one in five UK passports stolen in Alicante are taken at the airport and half are removed from vehicles a parked at Alicante-Elche Airport. And once away from the airport, the Consulate team underlined how a further one in five of British passports is stolen from vehicles on the road or in car parks. This high level of thefts has triggered a new drive by the Consulate, Spanish police and car hire companies to reduce the number of British victims of crime – and the consequent loss of time and money. As a result, the British consulate has met with National Police and car hire operators at Alicante Airport to discuss ways of reducing the number of British nationals falling victim to criminals and losing their travel documents. STICKERS Car hire companies were asked to remove stickers from the back of cars that make the vehicles an obvious target for thieves – one operator revealed that since the stick on company logo had been removed the number of smashed windscreens and windows had greatly reduced.

Eight out of ten large companies to increase employment this year VALENCIAN EMPLOYERS have confirmed this week that they are confident that eight out of ten large companies will increase employment and sales this year at a conference on tourism in Benidorm attended by the Valencian Business Association (AVE). 82% of attendees said they believed that 2015 would prove to be significantly more successful than last year in terms of profitability. Mercadona President Juan Roig agreed that the economic future for the country was considerably brighter and Ave President Vicente Boluda said that more than two thirds of employers within the association would be expanding their payroll this year. President of the Valencia Generalitat Alberto Fabra was also present.
Don’t look down!
Alicante Airport’s modern terminal
And the car hire companies also agreed to issue new advice to customers. Drivers will be told they should never leave personal belongings visible from outside the vehicle; when the vehicle is full of suitcases and other valuables it should only be parked in a ‘proper’ car park equipped with security cameras and never parked in the street; drivers and passengers should be extra alert when loading and unloading and keep valuables close; and they should
ignore attempts to distract them on the road or when parked – it could be a ploy to facilitate a robbery. The police promised they will increase patrols at car hire collection points to increase security and to work more closely with the car hire operators. Car hire companies were also urged by the police to publicise the 902 102 112 emergency number for tourists to report a crime in English should they fall victim to thieves.
FOR THOSE with a head for heights and a love for spectacular scenery, it is now possible to make a reservation to walk the Caminito del Rey (The King’s Walkway) near Malaga which is to re-open on 28th March after the completion of extensive works to make it safe. The walk has long been a favourite with adrenalin fans, many of whom lost their lives on wooden planks only inches wide. The walk has been rebuilt and now covers 6km of dizzying pathways that hang hundreds of metres over the gorge below. The walk is free for the next few months but tickets are limited to 600 per day. In the first six hours after the Caminito del Rey website opened for business there were more than 10,000 reservations made from all over the country. Children over the age of eight are allowed to take part in the walk and there are a number of safety precautions to take. RTN will NOT be covering the route! See www.caminitodelrey.info for details.

Farewell George by Jack Troughton VOLUNTEERS WORKING at the Moraira Charity Shop have said goodbye to loyal friend, supporter and benefactor George Sylvester, who passed away earlier this month. Born in Berlin and a survivor of the Holocaust, the 81year-old had lived in Moraira for over 30 years and was known as one of the community’s characters. In 2013 he underwent two successful eye operations to save his failing vision and told RTN that without the Moraira Charity Shop he would have gone blind. The shop raises funds for the Masonic home of Valencia Association and the association paid around 3,000€ to restore George’s sight – he responded by donating all his glasses to the shop. John Griffith, a member of the shop team, said George had visited the shop for “donkey’s years” and was always keen to help out. George purchased a complete set of Encyclopaedia Britannica from the shop a decade ago and would return to quote facts from the collection.
AUTHOR John said: “He discovered that the original name of author Jack London was John Griffith, the same name as mine. “He also liked British films and television series. His favourites were ‘Ello ‘Ello and Dad’s Army.” George also liked to find things, repair them, clean them and take them to the shop to stock the shelves in his wheelbarrow. “I could have sold the wheelbarrow 10 times.” John added: “He was also known in the village for his unusual headgear – at one point he took to wearing a lampshade which looked like a Chinese coolie hat.” George was also an official interpreter and also told the shop team he was writing to German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a bid to get Spanish students into German universities. “We will certainly miss him at the shop because he John was such a character and used to turn the place up- (left) with side down – but over the years he supported us all the George time,” said John. in 2013
Animal charity appeal for support
by Jack Troughton ANIMAL LOVERS in the Jalon Valley are being urged to support the work of ARC, a registered charity caring for the lost, abandoned and ill-treated. Jalon Valley Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre was founded in April last year by Jayne Webb and Sally Mason after a request to find a family for a cat expecting kittens. The cat – naturally named April – and her five kittens were found homes. Since then ARC has rescued 18 cats and kittens and nine dogs, seven of them found homes. Another 12 feral cats have been spayed and returned to their territory. Little Benji was rescued from rubbish bins where his two siblings lay dead – he was just hours old and the umbilical cord was still attached. However, Jayne fed the puppy every two hours until he was weaned and at six months he remains “her baby”. ARC donation tins can be found at a number of businesses and it is also hoped people will donate unwanted animal beds, leads, and collars, plus unused food and medicines. The charity can be contacted directly or items can be left at Heidi’s flowers or The Cut. Fund raising activities are also being organised and ARC has booked to stalls at the Jalon Valley HELP May Fair on Sunday 17th May. Donations of wines and spirits for tombola and bric-a-brac would be much appreciated. ARC can be contacted by calling 679 310 285 or 625 985 689 or email jalonvalleyarc14@yahoo.co.uk, go to its Facebook page, or visit the website http://jalonvalleyarc.moonfruit.com
Continued from front page He said the cuts would mean that 25%of the population were receiving a mere 0.0004% of the province’s annual budget – and called for Alicante to restore funding to ongoing projects. Mr Anton said that in the past 80% of activities funded by the province were available free of charge to foreign residents. And he told RTN it was not a political move because town halls across the region were led by different political parties. “This is an election year and I do not understand why they would want to provoke a situation such as this – it means 25% of the population will receive practically nothing in funding. We want to change this because it is not fair,” said Mr Anton. “These people, the 25%, are voters. They are expats entitled to vote here and all these people are paying their taxes and rates.” He added: “I know how the Diputacion works over its finances because I am also the financial councillor in Javea and I can see absolutely no reason why the budget should not be restored. “Alicante must modify its budget, recognise the situation and make this money available. The good thing is every town hall will present the same motion – we are united in this.” Mr Anton, President of independent party Xabia Democratica, said every year the provincial government had surplus money available because not all projects were completed. Yet, he said, Alicante was being short-sighted over the overall effect of the cuts – as an example he said campaigns to get new arrivals to join the town hall census – the ‘Padron’ – earned town halls cash from central government. And in another example, Mr Anton said many expats chose to go to charities such as MABS and HELP when they need assistance – frequently easing the budget on town hall social services. “We just want to help other people doing a good job in the community. Many people in trouble are in the hands of charities and associations. They do not go to social services, certainly not at first, they call MABs or HELP or other charities.” He said the request to restore the 2014 budget was not asking for something “extraordinary” but a minimum amount to keep thing sticking over. “It is symbolic – it shows we care and these charities and associations are important. This amount of money will not pay to help all the expats they are helping every day but it is a symbol and shows our intention,” said Mr Anton. Adopting Churchill’s famous ‘V for Victory’ stance, he said: “We will win this battle and next year I hope we can ask for even more money – this year the town halls have agreed to fight for this amount.”

TERRACOTA BIRD houses are to be placed on the roofs of houses in Calpe Old Town in the hope they become a ‘des res’ for the community’s feathered friends. The unique homes – there are 25 different designs – are the work of ceramic artist Esteban Juarez and it is hoped once birds nest in them they will help keep numbers of insects in check, especially the tiger mosquitoes that arrived on the Costa Blanca last summer. Currently the bird houses are on exhibition in the Old Town Hall, currently the Gallery of Contemporary Art and can be viewed Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm and 4.30pm and 7.30pm. The designs include a church tower, a Russian Orthodox Church, a fishing boat, and a windmill – and commissions will be undertaken by the Esteban should anyone wanting an up market bird house for their own property. Residents of the Old Town have been encouraged to apply if they want one of the bird boxes on their own home. “We want people to see these bird houses because they are actually beautiful works of art,” said Councillor Carole Saunders. “The idea is people will be able to see them as they walk around the Old Town. It is both an environmental and cultural project to enhance the area.” She said it was hoped the birds that take up residence would bring a healthy appetite and earn their keep. “The idea is we find people happy to have the nesting boxes on their homes and we also give them a potted plant,” she added. “The plant will encourage insects to visit...and get eaten.”

Protecting the vulnerable by Jack Troughton THE ELDERLY, frail and vulnerable continue to receive the support of dedicated volunteers of Jalon Valley HELP, the charity Annual General Meeting was told on Wednesday. Last year 70% of income, over 55,000€, was spent in the community in the form of service provision and grants made to a series of good causes – an increase of almost 10,000€ on the previous 12 months. However, President Elaine Horton outline the problem of an aging population with many pensioners surviving on “meagre incomes” and said the charity must undertake new initiatives to help care for them. “The numbers of elderly and frail are growing in this community,” she said. “Many of whom have lived in the area for years and all their social networks are here – it is their home and they don’t want to leave it. “And this charity is determined to improve the life of the most vulnerable whilst also having an eye on the wider community.” She said an AGM was an opportunity to stop and reflect on the previous 12 months. “The facts are that through your efforts we have managed to assist those in crisis, provide warmth for children, provide food for the hungry, and care for the sick and dying.” During the year HELP in conjunction with the MABS Cancer Support Group had opened the Santolina Suite at the Fontille’s Ferris Hospital to offer rehabilitation and end of life care. And Elaine said requests for the loan of medical equipment – “the most used service” - were coming from as far afield as Oliva and Albacete where no similar service existed. PURCHASE “We purchased additional equipment throughout 2014, to supplement what we already owned and to replace the old and broken.”
However, she said referrals to the charity relating to elderly and sick people were growing. “These cases are becoming increasingly complex – it is impossible to share the detail of some of these referrals but I would say you simply could not write them. “We often find ourselves in total disbelief over the circumstances we come across. They are extremely problematic and time consuming and need referring to a number of different agencies.” She joked that the number of calls for ambulances meant “we are very well known to the crews and many are now on first name terms.” Elaine said the charity acted as a key holder to some residents and also received calls from the Red Cross to assist following accidents and falls – sometimes just to help lift someone up but at others to help with a hospital admission. “We are also faced with individuals who have not used their entitlement to state health care and sometimes have no wish to do so,” she said. “These emergencies can result in considerable and unnecessary work to others and at the same time is stressful for those involved, with their families living abroad.” Elaine said she was proud of the charity and its team and hoped to encourage others to join to assist others. “Unfortunately we live in a society that does not want to recognise the problems that exist here.”

Montgo’s lime kilns to be restored
The fire that swept through Montgo National Park in the summer exposed a number of old lime kilns used to produce lime and mortar for the building industry some 50 years ago. As part of the recovery plan for the area a team under the supervision of municipal archaeologist Ximo Bolufer is to undertake the repair of the kilns.

Sign up for the latest news from the Guardia Civil Trafico by Keith Nicol DUE TO the phenomenal growth of their Facebook page, ‘N332’, since our RTN review two issues ago has helped them increase their numbers from a handful of followers to now around 6,000 visitors. The Page is dedicated to those interested in knowing more about driving and traffic laws in Spain. The Guardia Civil officers behind the campaign have been asking their followers what else they would like to see in the future. The officers are keen for feedback on the best way to supply more information, be it an eBook, magazine of other publication, as they now have a clearer picture of how to develop their information stream for the near future and beyond. In a short time they discovered that because of the nature of Facebook, that many of the questions asked by new followers are duplicates of information they have already published. Therefore, they are now in the process of creating a new website where they will catalogue the articles, which will then allow you to search and read through any of the information we have already posted. Secondly, they have decided for now to set up a free newsletter, which they
Telefonica reports a drop in profits THE TELEFONICA group has reported a 34.7 per cent drop in profits in 2014 after forking out €405 million for restructuring and taking a €257 million hit on the value of its share of Italian holding company Telco. However, CEO Cesar Alerta remains optimistic regarding the company’s future. He said: “A period of intense transformation has strengthened the company, its growth potential and its financial position, in just over two years. Telefonica is responding to changes in our customers’ technological needs, characterised by a booming data usage.”
PP councillor in Nazi’ fancy dress
Almost 6,000 people are now engaged with N332 on Facebook
will send by email on a regular basis to subscribers. You can sign up to be added to the mailing list by visiting the secure page on the website, http://n332.es/newsletter-signup/ or by sending an email to news@n332.es with the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject line. The reason they have decided to provide the service for free is because they think it´s important to reach as many expatriates as possible, as they believe it is important that the information reaches as many people as possible, and a free service is more likely to achieve this.
They are investing a lot of time in providing the service though and they hope to get donations from advertisers in the future in order to help raise money for charitable groups, to maintain the website and the newsletter. The website is available now at www.n332.es, but there is still a lot of work to do on both the website and the newsletter, so they ask you to be patient, but once complete it will provide a valuable resource to accompany the Facebook page, where they promise to still remain interactive with you and respond to your questions.
TENERIFE’S POPULAR Santa Cruz Carnival took place last Friday, attracting hundreds of party goers dressed in wild and wonderful costumes. One visitor, however, received a frosty welcome when he turned up dressed as a Nazi officer along with some of his friends. Juan José Gaztañazatorre from Durango in the Basque Country is a PP councillor and has been a regular visitor to the Santa Cruz Carnival for 43 years. He took time off from his role as councillor in order to attend this year’s event. Party officials at home have since apologised for Gaztañazatorre’s “appalling lack of judgement.” The man himself, however, does not see the problem, saying his costume had no political agenda. The town of Durango, where residents are said to be furious at the councillor’s behaviour, was heavily bombed by German planes in the Spanish Civil War.

Red shrimp delicacies achieve record prices in Dénia
by Jack Troughton The 18-year-old won the final of the under 75kg competition, beating a fighter in his midtwenties aspiring to become a professional – and has received a message of congratulations from Javea Mayor Jose Chulvi. It was a good day at the office for Cain’s club Mauy Thai Xabia, which entered 12 fighters and lifted six medals; four gold and two silver. Cain, who left college last year – he now works for the family businesses of Bombers Bar, Carol’s Kitchen, and Carol’s Quality Pre-Owned Furniture in Javea – and took up the sport two years ago and is now looking ahead to the Championships of Spain in April. He told RTN during the first year he was only allowed ‘light contact’ boxing but had moved to the ‘full contact’ version of the sport, and had to be prepared for three gruelling three minute rounds of a bout. “I really enjoy kickboxing. It is really good for your fitness, that’s one of the best things about it, the training really keeps you going” he said. “And fitness is the key without a shadow of a doubt because after three rounds of going mental, it gets really hard.” He added: “I don’t get nervous before a fight; you have to get yourself into the correct state of mind...but it feels really good to win!” There are moves to get Thai Kickboxing wider recognition as an Olympic sport. Cain added: “That would really be an aim for me and I certainly would not turn down the chance to represent either Spain or the UK.”

Are you all nuts? MY WIFE and I went to buy some things at a supermarket on the N332 in Orihuela Costa. When we were paying at the checkout - yes you guessed it, the price was higher at the checkout than the signs on the shelf. We refused to pay the higher price and a lazy looking sales assistant dragged himself off to check the price on the shelf. After several minutes of waiting he said that just because there were two - yes two - sales signs over the article that did not mean that was the price. He was not smirking or laughing when he said it, nor was there a hint of redness in his cheeks to indicate even the slightest degree of embarrassment. He said it with a docile, straight face. Why have a price on something if it isn’t the price? The supermarket wins and customers lose. They are always right and the customer is always wrong. In the immortal words of movie mouse Stewart Little, “Are you all nuts surely refers to this supermarket. Brad Coe, La Mata
Thanks for having a big heart AS AN avid reader of RTN and fan of the letters page may I contribute this letter: With great interest I heard the British Ambassador Simon Manley came to Torrevieja last week to give a big listening ear to various mayors where there are large populations of ex-pats. Whilst here he heard our issues concerning integration in this part of Spain.
The British Consul Sarah-Jane Morris was also in attendance to offer a listening ear and help formulate plans to help expats with language and cultural issues that we experience living in a foreign country. Thanks again to Simon Manley for coming here to hear and for having a big heart to help. Lucy P, Playa Flamenca

Historic victory
UNIQUE SITE plans of historic castles across ‘La Marina’ have been successfully catalogued and with photographs will help make up a touring exhibition this summer. by Jack Troughton A special project team from AMUX – Friends of Javea Museum or the Amics del Museu de Xabia – have been hard at work with the documents donated by British resident Michael Stephenson. The material filled 12 archive boxes and retired librarian Milagros Uriate spent almost a year detailing the collection. AMUX colleagues working on the project were Christine Betterton-Jones, who added many up-to-date pictures of the castles and her own research, while local archaeologist Josep Castello Mari and municipal archaeologist and museum director Joaquim Bolufer added their own expertise. The castles themselves are of interest to all residents of the Marina Alta, Marina Baixa, and El Comtat – the reason why the exhibition will visit different towns in the region. Over many years donor Michael, along with friends Anne Scott and Ted Adams, visited the ruins of the fortresses. He said: “I was always curious about the number of castles I spotted from the road when I drove
Charity sales ahead A CROWDED sale room and around 400 lots going under the hammer last Friday insured Jalon Valley HELP’s third annual Charity Auction was another fund raising success. Auctioneer Alan Lewis and his team handled the event with typical efficiency and humour and HELP hopes to raise more than 2,300€ from the auction. Many of the visitors also chose to enjoy lunch at the event and as a result El Cid donated 100€ to a pot that included the proceeds of the sale and a raffle. All profits will be used by the charity to support those in need in the Jalon and Orba Valleys and the Vall de Laguar. Jalon Valley Help’s next fund raising event is Afternoon Tea – boasting proper china cups – and Flower Arranging Demonstration by Jo Jeffery of the National Association of Flower Arrangers on Thursday 2nd April. The event is being staged at the Mas la Pau in Lliber at 2pm. Tickets at 10€ each are selling quickly. Numbers are limited and anyone interested can email jvevents@ hotmail.com to make a reservation.

This combined with my love of walking provided the stimulus for the project. “My friends and I took photographs to indicate the topography and carefully measured the layout of the walls and other structures so we could prepare accurate, scale drawings.” The AMUX group would still welcome a helping hand. Bigamy blues
17
by Jack Troughton HAPPY GONDOLIERS Marco and Giuseppe are singing the blues after being banished from Venice because one of the friends is a suspected bigamist – and a king. Nothing is simple in Gilbert and Sullivan’s popular operetta ‘The Gondoliers’ because no one is sure which of them has blue blood and is in possible trouble with the law. Marco and Giuseppe would normally be on top of the world having just married sweethearts Gianetta and Tessa but intervention by the Grand Inquisitor has rather taken the gloss off the occasion. The Calpe Gilbert and Sullivan Society is currently getting to grips with the twists and turns of a hilarious and entertaining plot for next month’s shows on the Costa Blanca. Marco or Giuseppe is actually King of Barataria and was married in infancy to Casilda, daughter of Spain’s Duke and duchess of Plaza Toro. Act One ends with the paid being sent to Barataria (without their wives) until the identity of the king is established. REPUBLIC Act Two opens with the gondoliers reigning in tandem until the problem is solved. However, their republican leanings
(From left) Giuseppe (Mike Donovan), Tessa (Giovanna Wallis), Gianetta (Carole Saunders), and Marco (Phil Ashley)
bring a little chaos to the kingdom – their servants refuse to take orders and they end up doing all the work themselves. Enter the tenacious Gianetta and Tessa and the female chorus to sort out the mess. While the wives are torn between wanting their men back and the lure of being queen, the revelation of the true heir to Barataria is classic Gilbert and Sullivan – and guarantees a happy ending. The society is in its last weeks of rehearsal before the
shows at Espai La Senieta, Moraira, on Thursday 26th March, and at the Salon Blau, Calpe, on Friday 27th March. Both performances start at 8pm. The Calpe concert is in aid of charity Friends of the Children of EMAUS. Tickets are 10€ and can be reserved by calling 96 648 0300 0r 696 514 613. Alternatively, they are available from Margaret and Elena’s Book and Card Shop in Avenida Gabriel Miro, Calpe.

SATURDAY SAW the conclusion of the Javea Saturday Trips, sponsored by Black Tower Financial Group, a popular winter competition played every year from the end of October to mid-February. Only one game out of 13 had to be re-scheduled due to bad weather and attracted teams from as far away as Bonalba. 14 teams battled it out in a round robin 18 end weekly competition which, as always, was played in good spirit throughout against fellow Javea club members and teams from surrounding clubs. Aussie Rules (so called in deference to our resident Aussie Greg Sperring) emerged winners in convincing style losing only one game out of 13 and accumulating a massive plus 200 shot difference, more than the sum total of all the other teams added together. The winning team consisted of Jan and Paul Brown, Jan and Alan Phillips, Tony and Anne Mckenna, Greg Sperring, Gail Chick and Nick Cole. Aussie Rules Captain this year Alan Phillips did a sterling job organising the ever-changing weekly team. The second and third place couldn´t have been closer with both teams finishing with 9 wins out of 13, but Bring It On won due to shot difference. Their team consisted of Ken and Carol Davey, Pat and John Pittaway, Carol and David Meare and Dennis Reeves. Third place went to Mixed Fruit with Chris Evans, Clive English, Derek and Lynne Eldon, Wendy and Louis Symonds and John Coates. After the prize giving all participants were treated to a buffet supplied by Jan Bigsby Team ‘Aussie Rules’ and Team ‘Bring it on’ courtesy of Black Tower Finance.

Farewell to piano star? THE METEORIC rise of ‘virtuosi’ pianist Haochen Zhang may soon take the classical musician out of the Costa Blanca orbit. by Jack Troughton The 24-year-old is making a long anticipated return to Spain after a sell-out success 12 months ago and is playing three concerts on the coast. 90 Norwegian swimmers prepare at Sports City
EACH YEAR during February and March, many Scandinavian sports clubs choose Torrevieja for their sports campus and winter training areas. Torrevieja’s Sports City is well positioned for this important, emerging market, as evidenced by the many teams that visit throughout the year. Since February 12th a number of Norwegian swimming teams and clubs have been training in Torrevieja from Asken, Madla, Bergen and Bronnoysund, different regions of Norway. Swimmers from these clubs compete in several categories, from children to youth, including a team in the senior category. They are preparing for various competitions, most nationally in their styles and categories, although several of these Norwegian sports clubs are trained to participate in international competitions. Along with the swimming teams, football teams from Norway are also utilizing the Sports City this month, training during their winter break and playing friendly games against local Torrevieja teams.

Icing on the GAW cake Travel broadens GRANT A Wish raised more than 1,400 euros over four successful days of fund raising to help the charity help others.
PUPILS, STAFF and parents of Laude Lady Elizabeth Junior School enjoyed a special geography day and travelled the globe without leaving Benitachell’s Cumbre del sol. Under the general heading ‘Our Wonderful World – Your Place, My Place, Our Place’, the youngsters learned a host of intriguing facts including natural disasters; island homes; weather around the globe; compass points, and direction. Many children came to school wearing a variety of national dress and the school enjoyed plotting on a map where the costumes were native to. And the parents cooked up a treat by contributing a variety of typical dishes from different countries to be sampled by everyone for the ‘World in Our Kitchen’ table.
by Jack Troughton Music, dining, golf, a medium, and a special Grant A Wish decorated cake all helped put much-needed cash in the charity coffers. The fun started last Friday night when The Rockets played a special ‘unplugged’ set at the Utopia Bar and Restaurant in El Vergel – two hours of acoustic numbers with Jools Cooper, Tommy Duffy, and Louis el Belga for 60 diners and regulars. On Sunday 80 golfers took part in a Texas Scramble at Oliva Nova Golf organised by Campbell Lamont with the Grant A Wish team dispensing liquid refreshments provided by sponsor Continental Wealth Management. All the players enjoyed the competition and made generous donations to the charity by dropping cash into collection buckets. DANCE The same night the El Casino Restaurant in Parcent welcomed 68 guests to taste more than 20 different platters with a number of different wines – triggering some enthusiastic moves later on the dance floor. And the event also witnessed the

unveiling of the special Grant A Wish decorated iced cake – which raised 75€ at auction. Finally, on Tuesday the charity staged an evening with medium James McArthur at the Casa de Cultura in El Vergel. Some 60 people enjoyed a moving and interesting night with the popular clairvoyant and spiritualist.
The event was also supported by local market stall holders and a busy bar also made it a success for the charity. Grant A Wish founder Jody Kirby was delighted with the result. “What an amazing four day period of fund raising. I can’t thank the hosts, performers, helpers, and volunteers enough. Collectively they helped us raise over 1,400€.”

Commendation for local fundraiser
‘Mick the Grip’ commendation by the RBL for his fundraising efforts
by Keith Nicol AT A special ceremony this month, the Board of Trustees of The Royal British Legion honoured one of their most prolific local fundraisers, Michael Reeves, for his efforts in raising over 15,000€ toward the RBL Poppy Appeal. The award was made at the monthly meeting of the Orihuela Costa Branch of The RBL by the Chairman of Spain District North, Nigel Hails, on behalf of Ray Sheppard, Head of the Poppy Appeal.
Mr Sheppard said, in his commendation “Your endeavours have been the means of bringing essential aid and comfort to those in need. I am quite sure that, could those assisted know directly of your outstanding contributions to this work they would wish to be associated with this expression of our deepest gratitude for all you have done”. In his response to the presentation, Mike said; “I am absolutely overwhelmed but nevertheless delighted to accept this on behalf of all the local golf

societies that have contributed so generously to our efforts.” Under his rather better known handle of ‘Mick the Grip’, the ‘Poppy Golf Days’ have been a regular feature of the Costa Blanca Golf scene for the last five years raising many thousands of euros for those less fortunate souls and taking up many dozens of hours of his time. He promised also that they would carry on for many more years to come but did appeal on closing for some assistance with his continuing efforts.
ELISE THERESE Marguerite Pusey, known to her many friends as ‘Lilly’ has finally decided that the time is right to return to the UK. A couple of reasons as to why she wants to leave after 18 years in the sun is that she still wishes to receive her Winter Fuel Allowance and to be in the right place to receive her letter from the Queen when she reaches 100. There is only one problem - Queen Elizabeth will then be 102. Lilly has lived on La Sella since she came here in 1996 as a widow starting a completely new life. She is a keen Bridge player and has been a member of Denia International Bridge Club for many years. A farewell party was held in her honour at the Club on Monday 23rd February after the normal bridge afternoon which was attended by some 50 of her friends. She is going to live on the English Riviera in Paignton and we all wish her well for a long and happy life in her new surroundings amongst her children.

Do not assume anything in Spain by
Jennifer Cunningham
I HAVE often wondered whether I should have the odd nip and tuck, as ladies do. But then decided I would grow old gracefully - or disgracefully - depending on your point of view. I look at some ladies and they can hardly move their faces. No, I’ll stay as I am, fighting gravity. I look at Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench, who are both wonderful examples of accepting themselves as they are. We seem to be obsessed with youth, and many ladies are going to unbelievable lengths to keep looking young. The trouble is, where do you start and finish? You get your eyes done, then you want your neck done, and then it becomes a repetitive cycle and probably obsessive in some cases. Last week, on Sky television, there was a programme devoted to plastic surgery. There were many examples of botched surgery with great regret being felt by the ladies and the main comment was that they wished they had left it alone. However, many of these operations took place outside of the UK. The reason for this was that it was much cheaper. Unfortunately, the good after care was missing because the price did not cover this type of care. A consultant from the UK spoke of his despair as this was happening far too frequently and it all came down to not doing proper research, not asking the right questions and assuming everything was covered. He mentioned that he found it extremely concerning that a low price seemed to be the only consideration and of major importance to British ladies. My mind then started wandering… His comment regarding price struck a chord as it is a situation that my company finds itself in more and more. Too many times, price is the main concern for a large number of the ex pats, as I have mentioned many
times before, and I feel the time has come for me to go a little further. Spain is a different country than the UK in many ways. For instance, the banking and insurance sector is not regulated in Spain to the same degree. In the UK there are regulations to protect the client. Advertisements always have to be checked and agreed by the authorities, both on television, radio and in the press. You have to have access to the policy wording at all times, and of course, the verbal word promising more than the contract offers, is illegal. I can assure you Spain has not reached this stage yet, and the Spanish have an entirely different interpretation. Yes, there is the DGS but they are undermanned and under resourced. Therefore, unless the company self regulates (which I assure you that Liberty Seguros does), and until the insurance industry, along with the banks, are strictly monitored by the government for our protection, do not assume that it is like the UK. You might be informed by a bank or insurance company that the quote they are giving you for a house policy is far cheaper with the same cover. This, of course, is rubbish. For example, Liberty Seguros have three levels of cover, so which is the new quote comparable to? Are you expecting cover for fire, theft, subsidence, flooding, new for old, and accidental damage? Yes, of course you are. Then take care - you may not be! Unbelievably, there are house policies that do not even cover you for theft: some policies only
cover for a few items in the home, such as television, dishwasher, fridge, oven, hob, but all personal effects and furniture are not. Now ask yourself a question – do you really know what you are covered for? Indeed, I would find it very suspicious if my quote and policy documents did not outline in detail what coverage I have actually paid for. What a risk you are taking, for yourself and your family, on settling for something that you believe is just cheaper. Please do some research and read your policy conditions. I understand that on Facebook people have been telling of their sad stories of being burgled and find their insurance has no theft cover. What a horror this must be. There is nothing you can do in retrospect. After-sales service is vital, especially when living abroad and possibly not speaking the language fluently. Also, are you having to use a high cost telephone number, 902 ... ... ? Any savings made on the cost of the policy will quickly be eaten up by the cost of calls. Jennifer Cunningham Consultants SL has its own Claims and Renewals Departments in the Javea Head Office, which is about the best you can get. No, we’re not the cheapest but we are good and constant and I am sure when it comes to claiming you will appreciate not only the quality of the policy but also our assistance. As I have always said, an insurance company is an insurance company and a bank is a bank. Banks do not enjoy a good reputation. So protect yourself from becoming a victim.

Growing healthy fruit trees for healthy crops
by
Dick Handscombe Holistic gardener and author
SPAIN IS a wonderful country in which to grow fruit. Most gardens have at least a token orange and lemon tree and some have luxurious orchards of subtropical fruits or in cooler areas olives, almonds, apricots, peaches and plums. Whatever you have or plan March is the most important month in the fruit growing calendar for new fruit trees, bushes and plants need planting and established trees need caring for after the generally dormant winter months. We answer questions asked at the various talks we have given:
WHAT CAN I PLANT? There are more than 70 fruits regularly grown in Spain but do restrict yourself to what is hardy in your area. Tropical and subtropical fruits will be possible along the hottest southerly costas but are a risk in inland valleys and on mountainsides where even one night’s heavy air frost can be devastating. Initially we had experimented with the growing of avocados, bananas, mangos, pineapples and papayas in a potentially hostile environment in order to test out what was possible, harvesting more than 20 large juicy mangoes in 2004, very different to supermarket fare, but the tree died during the winter that followed along with the other subtropical trees except for a well-sheltered avocado. We won’t try again until we have had a series of warmer winters. Tables indicating the frost hardiness of trees, bushes and plants are given in our book ‘Growing Healthy Fruit in Spain’. WHEN SHOULD I PLANT THEM? Potted trees are available for much of the year - we prefer to plant deciduous fruit trees in the autumn or early spring but delay frost-tender citrus trees until after the last danger of frosts.
IS SPECIAL CARE REQUIRED WHEN PLANTING THEM? Yes - poor planting is one of the main reasons why fruit trees, bushes and plants fail to grow, flower and fruit well. It’s important that you prepare the ground well and plant the roots in large planting holes. Holes dug just the size of the plastic tube or pot in which you purchased the trees is doomed to failure if you have a clayey soil. SHOULD I ENRICH THE SOIL? The ancient Spanish custom of ‘feeding the soil rather than feeding the plants’ should be followed. Work in a builder’s bucket of good compost and one of well rotted manure or bagged dried manure into an area of one square metre of soil and a depth of half a metre a week or two before planting trees, bushes or plants. SHOULD YOUNG FRUIT TREES BE IMMEDIATELY PRUNED WHEN PLANTED? It’s preferable to not prune them at that stage but leave for a year or two to allow the roots to establish themselves and the tree to start to grow naturally. You can then select the strongest growing branches to create the framework of each tree. WHAT IS THE MOST USEFUL GENERAL INSECTICIDE FOR FRUIT TREES? We suggest you use a spray based on neem oil. If you cannot find one locally buy from Trabe by mail order: www.trabe.net. HOW MUCH GROWTH SHOULD BE PRUNED
OFF A MATURE TREE EACH YEAR? There are several reasons for pruning trees and several possible end shapes. As a rule a 20% pruning may be sufficient each winter or spring – depending on the type of tree – for a well-shaped, healthy tree while 60 - 80% of unhealthy neglected tree may need to be cut out. If you have recently purchased an inland property with several hundred trees you may have a major task ahead of you. HOW MUCH WATER DO YOUNG TREES NEED? It is important to keep the soil around the deepest growing roots just moist. If you only saturate the top few centimetres roots can dry out and the tree eventually die. A good deep soak once a week is better than a shallow daily watering. WHEN SHOULD FRUIT BE PICKED, IT IS OFTEN HARD IN THE SHOPS? The joy of growing your own fruit is that you can pick it daily when it is at its best. That is fully coloured, full of flavour and juicy if appropriate. You can dry fruit on trays in the sun or in a low temperature oven but the most convenient way is to purchase an electric fan tray dryer.

Real estate property purchase and payments in cash. DEAR LAWYER, I have signed a purchase contract for a property in Moraira (Alicante, Costa Blanca). Next month we will go to the notary office to sign the title deed of sale (escritura). The seller has asked me to pay the rest of the money to be paid in cash. Is this legal? DEAR READER, thank you for your enquiry. Making a payment in “cash” is not in itself necessarily illegal, be it payment for a property, a car, or consultation or visit to the doctor, lawyer, etc. as long as this payment is properly declared, invoiced, etc. Once that is clarified, you should know that the cash payments are limited by law, for example the Law 7/2012, of October 29, states that in a transaction where a professional / business person is involved, any payment in cash could not exceed € 2,500. In your case, if your purchase is between individuals, and you pay part in cash, you may be required to declare the cash payment to the authorities, by means of the forms like the S-1 or
other appropriate documents, depending on the amount paid in this way. This should not be confused with payment in “black money “ or “B money” which certainly is not legal. That is, when the person from whom you are buying the property wants you to pay part of the price in cash with the idea of not declaring it at the notary, only declaring on completion of the purchase deed the part of the price “officially paid” by checks or transfers, with the aim of not declaring this cash part of the price. The seller cannot enforce you to act in this illegal way. Plus, besides the illegality, if there is a problem with the property you could not prove what you actually paid for it. Also, from the fiscal and tax point

of view, whilst you would pay less transfer tax at the purchase of the property (10% in the province of Alicante) due to the lowered declared price, when you sell the property and get capital gain, the capital gain tax is at a higher rate than transfer tax, and also would be based on the less than the real original price (note that the capital gain is about 20%). Therefore, we advise you not to pay significant amounts in cash, and always ask for a receipt for the amount paid, and / or an invoice. You can pay in cash with the limitations foreseen in the law but it is essential that the payment is properly declared, so if needed, you will be able to claim in case of a problem with the good or service purchased. How your widow could end up penniless WITH THE radical new pensions regime just weeks away, retirement planning is even more important than ever. A CRUCIAL but often overlooked aspect of planning involves making provision for a surviving spouse. Failing to put proper arrangements in place for your husband or wife could have dire consequences. An example is a lady who discovered that her partner was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 55. He felt that as he had saved a sizeable pension over the course of his working life, she and their three children would be taken care of financially when he died. A year later his condition had worsened. With no income, and in need of cash, he sought advice about how to release money from the pension. Despite his dire state of health his pension scheme refused to pay his fund out as a lump sum, which is sometimes agreed to in such circumstances. Instead he
converted his £83,000 pot into an ill-health annuity. That way he could get his hands on 25pc of his pension as a tax-free lump sum right away. The rest of the money, as with all annuities, was used to buy a small income which would be paid monthly for life. This turned out to be a disastrous move as he died just nine months later. Worse, to his partner’s horror neither she nor the children had been named as dependents on the policy, meaning they were entitled to nothing. If she had been named as a “dependent” she would now be in receipt of a £3,000-a-year. The one major factor that puts thousands of people off providing for their partners in this way is that they get a far smaller pension themselves. From April 6, if you die under the age of 75, your spouse, or any named beneficiary, can inherit your remaining pension funds entirely free of tax. If you
pass away over the age of 75, the survivor has to pay only their marginal rate of tax on the income they take from it. Clearly, making provision can be a minefield. We are here to give you free, impartial, independent advice. If you have any questions or need any advice regarding the above you can contact me on 636361588 or email wayne.martin@blacktowerfm.com

Summers Bar Convoy of Happiness LOCAL ENTERTAINERS entertained a packed house at Summers Bar last Friday, raising funds to take the children from Elche Children’s Home in a “Convoy Of Happiness” tour to Terra Mitica in June.
THE FULL house enjoyed a specially prepared three-course meal followed by superb entertainment from Dan Davy, Richie Alexander & special guest appearance by International recording artist, Ricky Valance. No fundraising evening would be complete without a Raffle and prizes on the night were donated by many of bar owner Trev Massey’s friends plus fellow local business owners, to help the cause. A generous auction prize, donated by Serenity Sailing in Torrevieja saw heavy bidding from the customers, all wanting to win the day an a chartered yacht, including lunch. The winning bid of 500€ was by regular Kate Sloan who very generously offered the prize to the next highest bidders, Norman and Valerie Rapley, who in turn matched Kate’s winning bid. She then donated the 500€ direct to the Charity, resulting in raising and amazing 1,000€ from the auction alone. Trevor said; “I first spoke to my wife Debbie just two months ago about putting on an event and we thought we could possibly raise most of the money needed by around June. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the unending generosity shown by the regulars of Summers Bar El Galan, as well as the regulars in our other bar Masseys Sports & Tapas in Blue Lagoon.” He continued; “I would also like to thank BMC Removals and the Ladies Bingo Social Circle at Hollywood’s Bar Los Dolses for each donating 200€ and an extra special thank you to Help Vega Baja who invited me to their San Miguel shop to explain more about my plans. After listening to the plans in more detail, they offered to pay for the children’s entrance fee, which totals in excess of 1000€ alone.” Summers Bar has another charity night planned on March 13th, priced at just 11.95€ per person including a three-course meal and entertainment by Gemma, Chloe Leigh and Kev Tyler. Trev added; “We are also asking for people to go thru their cupboards at home and donate any unwanted items to our charity auction, which have planned for Monday, March 16th. Electrical equipment, unwanted presents, books, dvds household goods, in fact anything that is in good condition that you no longer any use of will be auctioned off to raise even more money for this superb cause.” Call Trev direct on 865 77 44 32, or pop into either Bar for more information.

Has Robert made an acceptable ‘U’ turn? ROBERT PATTINSON and Kristen Stewart met on the set of movie Twilight, and at one time the story of their on/off romance was all over the media sites. I decided against bringing any of the endless updates of them being in love then out again before lunch as I felt it was something you were not mad to find out about. The whole thing eventually deteriorated into a Paparazzi nightmare for the two young actors, an involvement that might well have been a major contributor to their demise as a couple. Having said all of that Robert is here today as his latest film ´Life´ had its premiere at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival on 9th February and in it he plays the part of a photographer … yep! Paparazzi! The movie is based on fact, and tells the story of the friendship between photographer Dennis Stock and James Dean who was starting out in Hollywood in the 50s and Stock saw a star in the making, eventually getting him a cover spread in ‘Life’ magazine. Talking to the press in Berlin Pattison said “I did feel like being a Paparazzi for a second ... I do empathise with their plight,” before adding, “at the end of the day I feel they go home and beat themselves up … that’s what I was doing to get into character.” Interesting stuff, especially as if there’s one thing he knows about its being hounded by the press. Robert also said that he looked up to Dean when he first started acting at 16, and how at every audition he’d go in and do a James Dean impression.” ´Life´ has been received well by the critics, and marks the 60th anniversary of James Dean’s death, a young man who raised the bar for peeps like Pattinson.
SOME SERIOUS ducking and diving by people who move in the ´A´ circles has produced a long line of reasons why the rumour of Leonardo Di Caprio and Rihanna edging towards being a couple has gathered momentum. Rih-o and Leo, as they are now being called, are two people I admire a lot for the intense quality of their work, and I am just off to buy a cupids arrow to help promote the cause.

´CELEBRITIES´ ARE just folks like you and me, some got lucky and doors opened for them, others kicked the damn thing down. Christine Aguilera is a doorkicker who has never suffered from believing her own publicity, and she proved this last week when she popped into Starbucks in New York and not only posed for selfies with everyone in the bar, but bought them all a coffee ... Social media went nuts!
DRUGS LIVE: Cannabis on Trial will be on Ch4 on Tuesday at 11pm, and you´ll see newsreader Jon Snow smoking two types of Cannabis. On his Channel 4 blog he said, “By the time I was stoned I felt I had only the vaguest awareness of who I was and what on earth I was doing, “then added “ If I can stick it out in Gaza I should be able to stick this out!” … good on you Jon!
WE´VE HAD ´Bob The Builder´ and ´Fireman Sam´ updated for the new millennium and now the Teletubbies is to get the same treatment. Original writer Anne Wood, who no longer has the rights to the show, said to the Radio Times, “I won’t be tuning in to see the return of Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po: people feel safer remaking hits of the past rather than investing in something new!” Good call Anne!

Life Coach
WITH A background in family and matrimonial mediation, Life Coach Sara Bell helps Readers with their daily worries. If you are having difficulties with relationships, family, work or any other aspect of your life, then help is at hand.
Live my life my way My parents and family expect me to live my life a certain way. They want me to settle down to the life they have, i.e. marriage, house, and 2.4 kids, because that is what my brothers and cousins have done. I want something else. I want to travel, work abroad and have life experiences. All I can see from the domestic life my family has is needy children, routine, boredom, and a mortgage around their neck. None of this appeals to me. The social pressure for us all to conform to a traditional life can be enormous. No one can tell you what to do. If a conventional life isn’t for you, then that’s fine. Tell your family once and for all, politely but firmly that their interference is not welcome, and that you do not want anyone trying to coerce you in to doing something you do not want to do, just because it is ‘the norm’.
I am devastated I have had my heart broken recently, when I thought I had found the woman of my dreams. She simply said she didn’t feel as strongly as I did. I am devastated. Where do I go from here? There are many varying degrees of love. I think for a person to really be ‘in love’, both parties must feel exactly the same way. There needs to be mutual attraction, devotion, and in my opinion your life partner needs also to be your soul mate, and best friend. By settling for less, you are more likely to encounter trouble down the line. However painful your broken heart is now, you must try and put this relationship behind you, get back out there and look for the love of your life. There are many people who are looking for exactly the kind of relationship that you seek. Joining social groups with people who share your interests will help. Take your time, and don’t be in any rush. Write to Sara in confidence. A pseudonym will be used if you wish. Sara reads all letters and can give a personal reply. Email your question to agonyaunt@roundtownnews.com or Sara is available for private consultations, telephone 633 614 476.

Help At Home Costa Blanca
MANY EX-PATS moved to Spain to start a new life and business, or moved here in retirement seeking a relaxed and untroubled life. But as we grow older we come to realise that we are not so independent and some need help, reassurance and care that may be available in our home country but is in shorter supply in Spain. We may become lonely and just need someone to chat to. And that is where Help at Home Costa Blanca comes into its own, a charity run by ex-pats who know and understand the needs of people who have left their homeland behind. You may be trying to pick up the pieces after bereavement; you may be caring for a sick loved-one; you may be having difficulty shopping or keeping your home clean, need help getting to the hospital, doctors or the pharmacy. This is where volunteers in the Help at Home Costa Blanca charity can assist - a small, dedicated band of people who give up their valuable time for others in a practical way - by actually getting out of their armchairs and doing something practical. But there is a major problem - a lack of volunteers. Sadly, volunteers grow older and they themselves find that they too need help. So a new band of people who are prepared to give just a few hours of their time is needed - volunteer to help as little or as often as you wish - no pressure!
Just pause and think what you did in your job: were you a nurse or a carer, a driver, a handyman, someone who knows one end of a screwdriver from the other? Or understand the inner workings of electrical appliances? Or an ex shop or office worker? These and many more are the sort of folk we want to hear from. If you have a few hours of time on your hands why not use it to help others. Help at Home Costa Blanca is holding a Volunteers Day on 6th March from 11.30am to 1.30pm at the charity’s shop at CC Flamenca Beach, Calle Niagara 2, Orihuela Costa, serving beverages and cake. Meet other volunteers, find out about the charity and if you like what you hear, sign up as a volunteer. President of Help at Home Costa Blanca Eileen Mayes said: “As the Costa Blanca expat community gets older peoples’ needs increase. While hospitals provide first rate care, after care is sadly lacking and this is where our charity comes into its own. But we are only as good as our volunteers and we are finding that our case load exceeds the number of helpers. “We have exciting plans to expand our charity shop and new office with a drop-in centre where clients can get free legal advice plus a crisis food bank for registered clients in need. We also want to improve our range of disability equipment for hire.” To find out more prior to the volunteers’ day call 96 532 8794.
Choir gains sponsor THE COSTA Blanca Male Voice Choir has signed a sponsorship deal with telecommunications company Telitec. The move comes with the growing popularity of the choir across the region and will help it develop future ideas and plans. Choir President Mike Evans said: “We are pleased that the choir is now able to develop ideas and plans for the future with the support of a strong local company such as Telitec. “The next few years will see the production of our first CD and the 10th anniversary of the choir and we are pleased Telitec will be joining us as part of these exciting few years.” Gemma Broad, the company’s Business and Promotions Manager, added: “We are delighted to be joining forces with the Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir and we can see great mutual advantages to both organisations over the coming years.”

Timezone issues Screen problems HELLO AUNTY: I have a program/app on my iPad called TVguide.co.uk which normally allows me to watch English TV when we are here in Spain. However, we arrived a few days ago and when I try to watch I am now getting a message saying ‘403 Forbidden CloudFront’. Any ideas or suggestions to rectify this please? Denise AUNTY SAYS: One issue may be down to the time zones being used, which is causing the iPad to become confused. For example, if your iPad is on UK time, and is connecting to the internet from Spain, then the time zones will be different, Spanish time being one hour ahead of the UK. So access may be restricted by the app you are using, as how can you be trying to access data 1onehour ahead of the actual time Or alternately, the app / service you are using is simply having a bit of downtime.
HI AUNTY: I have a zoostorm freedom 10” netbook. This was working well until yesterday. I opened it and the screen was flickering and had a couple of lines across it. Now the screen has lost a quarter of viewing area from the left. I cannot get u s a g e from the whole screen. Do you have a suggestion as to why this has happened? Also, the time has to be reset every time I start-up and sometimes during usage it goes out of sync. This has been the case for at least a year and I have used the PC normally. Ray
Aunty says: Your screen image issue can be down to a number of reasons: Your screen is failing Your graphics card is failing You have a loose cable between your graphics card and screen If your clock is always going back to the “default time”, and you are repeatedly resetting this, it sounds like the battery that provides power to the motherboard memory has failed. A new battery may be required. Alternatively, your clock is on the wrong time zone.
Font too small
HI AUNTY: My hobby is singing with my Guitar ‘Country Songs’, which I download and save. My problem is, when I go into Tools and increase the text before printing, my printout is always of the same small original text, and of course too small to read on a music stand. Any suggestions on how to print it as I see it on my Laptop? As always, many thanks. Tom. AUNTY SAYS: It is a bit difficult to give a definitive answer, as I do not know what program you are using to open your document, in which program you are “going into tools”, or to print. Normally, to increase the size of text for printing, you select the text and then change the font size.

Presidents Farewell CHRIS SUMTER is stepping down as president of Samaritans in Spain and moving to England to begin the next adventure in her life. She first joined the Samaritans in the autumn of 2008, completing her listening training early in 2009. She became a Trustee and, as an ex-teacher, took over training, revamping the modules to suit Spanish conditions and began training trainers to further the organisation. Chris became CEO in 2011 and took over as President on 1st November 2011. At this point the organisation was known as Costa Blanca Samaritans, and was literally struggling for its very survival, available for only four hours each night. Chris led the search for new premises – the new centre opened in Punta Marina Centre, Punta Prima in March 2013 and since then the Samaritans have gone from strength to strength, now including 24-hour listening, email consultations, face to face work, prison visiting and a satellite centre with the British Embassy in Madrid. Samaritans in Spain are now one of the most well-known and respected services for expats throughout Spain and the Islands. Chris has always been an innovator in this way, starting overseas colleges for adults with learning difficulties, counselling services for students and a wealth of other challenges. So what is next for this mover and shaker? Only time will tell, but wherever she ends up, it will surely not be to enjoy her retirement gracefully. As Chris says, there are places to visit, people to see, and most importantly things to be done. Both she and her husband are already looking for the next challenge - good luck to both Chris and Lubbertus.

Family seeks orphans By Jack Troughton FOOTLIGHTS THEATRE Group is holding auditions next week for its production of the hit Broadway musical ‘Annie’ – hoping to find a talented youngster for the title role. The Calpe-based group seek a “special and talented girl” who can look the age of 11. She will need a strong stage personality, a good singing voice, and be able to “move” well. The show also needs a group of girls aged between six and 13 to become the occupants of a New York orphanage in the 1930’s. Older boys are also on the recruitment wish list. Originally based on a comic strip ‘Little Orphan Annie’, the original show opened in New York in 1977 and ran for six years. Director Trevor Harder said: “All the girls must have all-round natural talent...we are hoping there will be a good response to this opportunity to shine in a major local production. “The musical ‘Annie’ is a big family orientated show requiring a large cast to fill all the various roles in various ages.” Footlights is also keen to discover additional adult performers, particularly men, to join their ranks. The initial audition night for ‘Annie’ is Tuesday 3rd March and Footlights normally meets on Thursday evenings in Calpe. Anyone interested can contact the Secretary on 96 587 0198 or email secretary.footlights@ gmail.com and will receive all the necessary information – performances and rehearsals are in English.

Basic Spanish for everyday needs by Jane Cronin
Uses of Ser and Estar IT APPEARS that I committed myself rather foolishly to writing about the uses of SER and ESTAR today. I would now quite like to change my mind but as I don’t want to disappoint the thousands of readers who have been waiting for today’s article with bated breath, I will do my duty. First of all, we need to look at their structure as both verbs are officially irregular in the present simple tense, which is why we are talking about them now. SER Soy Somos Eres Sois Es Son ESTAR Estoy Estás Está
Estamos Estáis Están
SER is clearly irregular as it is quite different from anything else at all. However, it might be more difficult for you to detect exactly why ESTAR is considered to be irregular. Have a good look at it and I will tell you in the next sentence what the answer is. Well, the reason ESTAR is considered irregular is because of the accents, and therefore the rhythm with which the words are said. I have mentioned many times in the course of our present simple
articles about how important it is to put the beat of the word on the roots in the first, second and third persons singular and third person plural. The significance of this is even more evident in the case of root-changing verbs because it is the beat of the word which creates the change in the root. However, unlike any other verb ESTAR has the beat on the endings of all six forms. We should have been getting this right anyway from the time when we learnt to say “¿Dónde está?” and “¿Cómo estás? when hopefully your Spanish teacher made you emphasise the final syllables. It makes all the difference to understanding when you speak. Now on the subject of usage, the first thing I want to do is disagree firmly and clearly with something that almost everyone seems to think about the use of SER and ESTAR (if you don’t think this then just ignore the next bit) and that is that we use SER for “permanent” and ESTAR for “temporary”. There are occasions when this rule of thumb may be useful but it can also be misleading if it is taken as the main difference between the two verbs. It fact it can create a lot of confusion which is a devil of a job to sort out once we start using both of these verbs in past and future tenses. The problem is that the concepts of “permanent” and “temporary” are

time-related concepts. They make us conceive of the meaning of these two verbs solely in terms of the length of time they describe. However, the meanings of SER and ESTAR have no connection whatsoever with the concept of time. The difference between the two verbs is really to do with quality rather than quantity of time, but before we even get on to that, and if you need a rule of thumb to replace the one you’ve just lost, this is mine which you are welcome to try out for size: ESTAR refers to “how” and “where” SER refers to “who” “what” and “when” Before I go into more details about finer differences, there is of course the major point that the verb ESTAR is used to refer to location. If you want to describe “where” something is you will always use this verb. Going back to the distinction made earlier, this is equally true when talking about a temporary location “El boli está encima de la mesa” and permanent location “Madrid está en el centro de España”. As I suspected, this subject is going to take me onto to a second article, but I have now at least given you something to think about for the intervening week. Obviously, and as with most things, it isn’t all that simple, but I think this will give you a clearer starting point to move on from next week.
Diabetes: be aware! THE HELP Diabetes Support Group Leader was asked by Councillor Sylvia Tatnell to give a talk, at the La Senieta on 19th February to the English speaking community, on the Risk Factors for Diabetes. There are 7 million adults in the UK who are at high risk of diabetes. It is hoped that other Town Halls with significant numbers of expats in their localities will contact Dorothy the group leader on 634 349 240 and take this opportunity to raise awareness of the risk of Diabetes. Anyone can take a three minute online test at www. diabetes.org.uk/riskscore to check their level of risk. Alternatively pick up a leaflet at the HELP Diabetes Support Group meeting on Tuesday 14th April at 4.30pm in the MABS room in the Ana Maria Espinos Resdential Home, Cami Calvari, Teulada. It is important to raise awareness of risk factors for Diabetes and Pre-diabetes as there is now evidence that a significant of those at risk, can be prevented from developing T2 Diabetes. Diabetes is serious business for the individual and for society. The UK has seen the number of people with Diabetes grow from 2 million in 2008 to 3.8 million in 2014, and there are still 7 million adults in the UK reportedly at high risk of Diabetes. The UK could easily be representative of the whole of Western Europe so the expat population in Spain should not be complacent. Every three minutes someone somewhere is being diagnosed with Diabetes! Research in Finland in 2001 in those overweight showed a reduction of 5% in body weight was associated a 58% reduction in the risk of developing diabetes. The Indian Diabetes Prevention Study has added further evidence as to what interventions could interrupt the journey from non-Diabetes, through pre-Diabetes to T2 Diabetes. Take the test today: www.diabetes.org.uk/riskscore and see what if any action you need to take.

Painful chest? PAIN IN the chest can be worrying and should always be investigated. There are many causes of chest pain from emergencies such as heart attacks, to indigestion and panic attacks. A condition known as costochondritis and a similar but separate condition called Tietze’s syndrome are less known causes of chest pain. Both conditions are characterised by inflammation of the cartilage that joins the ribs to the breast bone (sternum.) This area is called the costochondral joint. Inflammation of this joint can cause sharp chest pain which is made worse by: Coughing, sneezing or taking deep breathes Pressure on the chest Certain positions, e.g. lying on one side in bed Physical activity Inflammation of the costochondral joint may be caused by: Chest injury Unaccustomed physical exertion such as heavy lifting Respiratory tract infections Severe coughing Wear and tear caused by normal chest movements!
Symptoms of Tietze’s syndrome are the same as costochondritis except that Tietze’s syndrome also causes swelling of the affected area. It is also much rarer than costochondritis. Symptoms of both conditions usually resolve after a few weeks but may continue for months. Treatments include: Painkillers and anti-inflammatories Heat treatments Steroid injections into the joint Avoiding activities that put strain on the chest If you are experiencing pain or tenderness in the chest area see your family Doctor however any sudden chest pain that could be caused by a heart attack needs urgent medical investigation and an ambulance should be called immediately.

Lose Inches the Fast Track Way! GET BACK into shape for this summer with the revolutionary Fast Track Hypnosis Gastroband system and lose those inches.
By Jonathan Gilchrist: Costa Blanca’s Top Hypnotherapist Weight loss using the acclaimed Fast Track Gastroband Program is designed for people who are fully committed to losing weight without the need for invasive surgery to achieve their goals. For years the weight loss industry has told us how to lose weight by using their specific products or systems. The industry often over complicates what is actually a very simple truth. To lose weight you must consume fewer calories than before. In other words, you must eat less - plain and simple! The Fast Track Hypnosis in under 30 minute sessions (which has been proven to work on two TV consumer programmes) targets the unconscious part of your mind that drives certain unwanted behaviours and urges. This in turn helps the client to overcome everything that gets in the way to accomplishing their goal and maintaining it! This System is exclusively designed to guide you into deep relaxation and talk you through the procedure as if it is actually happening. The theory behind it is it “tricks” the mind into believing the body does not require as much food to feel full up, consequently clients will lose weight by changing their eating patterns. Once you are eating less, the simple end result will be weight loss. So if you are interested in losing weight, then the Gastroband procedure is for you! All this for an amazing 95€ ! So the question is…are you ready to lose that excess weight? If the answer is YES then what are you waiting for? Call now! “I would like to thank you for your help. After visiting your clinic four months ago I have now reduced my weight by 4 stone 8 lbs (30kilos). I don’t think I could have achieved this on my own. I have been recommending you to my friends. I’m so chuffed... It’s made a vast difference to my life… Brian.” Jonathan holds his Fast Track Hypnosis sessions in Cabo Roig, Quesada and Benidorm. Horoscopes A hunch foretells that something just isn’t right just now, and that there may be changes to schedule and timings this week. With the negative actions of Pluto influencing Jupiter, for sure all will be well, and some of those last minute changes are for the very best of reasons anyway. It’s just not knowing that makes you feel somewhat out of control. The three actions of Venus this week sees the Goddess of Love taking on Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto in turn. This is a time like no other, especially since love enters into your life in so many different ways, and for good reasons. Uranus brings synchronicity and Pluto tells you a few inner truths that may shock you, but will help you on a decision. Mercury, planet of communication, takes on the subtle but strong vibrations of Uranus, master of technology and forward planning. After the glitches of the past week, when things may well have gone haywire, at last your feet are safely on the ground and things can really get back to basics once more. Choices right now will really matter, in no time!! The Mercurian opposition of Jupiter does not bring you a reverse of fortune, but it does clear time for you to make immediate changes that are both necessary and poignant. Where there is a will there’s a way, and you should base your future on gut reaction and instinct because this time around you have to get it right for everyone’s sake. The Sun reverberates energy from an end of the week Leo: The Sun reverberates energy from an end of the week dalliance with Jupiter. As much energy is felt all across the Cosmos you are drawn to examine all possibilities; appreciating that you may have been wrong in a previous decision, and, that it is high time to set the record straight. Two wrongs do not make a right, so bring on love and luck. Mercury has recently unleashed an emotive message for your ears only. A secret just has to be kept right now, but you must be biting your tongue, nevertheless. In time all will be transparent, but it is better this way, although others could misread your real intention and have you inadvertently spill the beans. Wait and see, it will all work out very soon! The midweek action between Venus and Pluto has brought sensitivity to a situation that was onset to veer out of control. Whilst Venus defends the right to love and Pluto examines everything down to the littlest detail there could be some conflict of interest. Oddly enough, a challenge now only helps you to consolidate your truly inspiring motives. Look to your opposing sign of Taurus to see that the actions of love are prominent all around the Cosmos right now. Though there is a need to knock something into shape there is absolutely no need to go in with all guns blazing; because you will live to regret your actions. Let sleeping dogs lie and beg to differ but walk away with your head held high! Jupiter basks in the rays of the Sun, ensconces with a romantic Venus and supports a sextile with Mercury. It would seem that, although all channels seem to be open and responsive, you are biding your time to see what action to take. Evasive strategies would be destructive right now, but then they are very last resort and it won’t come to that. Mars goads your planetary leader, wily Saturn. There is a loophole to be looked for and waste no time finding solution for the conflict that others have brought to a head just recently. Sticks and stones may break your bones but that stubborn anger is ruling your basic instincts; and, it’s so obvious that you do not need any further complication Uranus confronts Venus and Mercury opening doors and bringing changes to a relationship that love has recently changed. The message has gone around very quickly, and though others may have their say it is only you that can make things happen now. The past doesn’t have to be repeated, but you mustn’t doubt yourself, above all!! You have now the blueprint for a happy and creative life, so long as you openly accept the changes of lifestyle it will bring you. Cut your cloth according to your wealth and be unafraid when challenges knock you back, as they will. The recipe for every success has laid dormant for so long, but above all, actions speak louder now than words can tell.

Bath and beyond RITUAL BATHING is such a comfort, and a secret pleasure you can indulge yourself in. With the pressure of everyday living, bringing about a need to relax, the comfort of this bathing technique can bring about inner peace, restoring balance to both mind and body, and promoting a level of spiritual protection. You need to have both a shower and a bath, soap and a towel, and maybe, by choice, an essential oil or favourite perfume. A dressing gown and slippers are optional extras. Above all comfort and pampering are to follow. The ritual begins when you set the scene in your bathroom. It helps to have candlelight, but this is not essential. Above all be comfortable and be prepared to be centred and be warm. Prepare to abandon the pressures of the day and look forward to a time devoted to yourself. Indulgence brings a loving and personal energy to the body that is indentifiable by each and every cell. Begin by having a shower at a comfortable temperature and use any soap or shower gel you prefer. If it will clean you and you like the smell then just go for it. A sponge or flannel will open pores and revitalise the body. You may decide to use a body scrub too. Above all this is the only process in the ritual that will use a cleanser, and the body has to be clean to continue with the ritual bathing process. When you have finished exfoliating, washing scrubbing, sponging and flannelling, just grab a towel or your dressing gown. Do not attempt to dry yourself fully and run yourself a bath at whatever temperature you are comfortable with. The cleansing part of the ritual is over, but the next part of the bathing process is the most important step. The bath of water is about to become the seat of your inner balance and peace. You can add any perfume you like, or a few drops of a preferred essential oil. If you use an essential oil stir into the water a little milk or dried milk powder. This will emulsify the oil and it will blend in the water rather

than float on the surface, since oil and water do not mix. Lavender or Mandarin oils are wonderful, as are Marjoram, Ylang ylang and Jasmine or Rose. Use your hands to make clockwise circles in the water to bring the energy level to the highest possible level. It is time to enter your ritual bath. You will feel the relaxing energy almost immediately, and you should begin to float away stresses and strains. You have entered this bath clean so you do not have any cleansing to perform. The water is all around you and you are comfortable. there is no time scale for this bath, but do add hot water to taste, if the bath becomes cold it may lose effect. Next stage is going to be to hold your nose, close your eyes and duck your head under the water. You will perform this action seven times in total. In so doing you must ask for all negative energies to leave your mind and body, and that all you wish for positively is brought back to you. Seven is the prescribed number, the magic number and the only number....please not more or less! As you leave your bath leave behind negativity, worry insecurity and doubt. Anything that has held you back goes down the plughole. Wrap yourself in your towel and your gown and lie down to relax. Make no attempt whatsoever to dry your body, this will happen slowly and promote that feeling of well being. You may find that the bath has awakened your psychic senses, it may be a precursor to some meditation or just send you off to a wonderful nights sleep. Some people like to have a ritual bath seven times in a row, so that they dip their head under the water seven times seven. This is best effected over seven consecutive days, but make it part of your routine as you wish. If you want to experience relaxation and spiritual enlightenment this is a spa for the mind, body and the soul. Enjoy!

KENNY, I have been told that I have healing hands, but they are often very cold, and I thought that heat was the energy field that Spiritual Healers use? Would Reiki help me to use any skills that I have. J.J. (sms) JJ.....healing hands can be hot or cold. It is not the right temperature that you need to heal, but the intention that you want to use your healing power, which comes from love.Yes, Reiki can help, but many natural healers do not need the tuition as they are gifted, they only have to be safely advised how best to use their gift. Often cold hands are conducting Magnetic healing which is excellent in treating arthritic and nerve pain...amongst other things.

Do you have trouble with the wind? Relax! Help is at hand. By Tony Myles I HAD the opportunity of playing in the monthly scramble earlier this week and the conditions at the Oliva Nova course were excellent. The fairways were neat. The bunkers were all regular and even. The greens were manicured and true. However, it was windy. Well to say it was windy was akin to suggesting that the Titanic had a minor scrape. It was gusting at over 40 kph for the first couple of hours and that had a demonstrable affect on the scoring. So having battled round, here are a few tips that I gleaned from Campbell which proved effective. First bit of advice - do not try to knock the skin off the ball, in order to counter a strong head on gust, instead take at least one or possibly two extra clubs. Secondly - with a longer club in your hand take an easier swing. If you lash at the ball
you will create greater spin which will launch it higher into the wind and you want to avoid doing just that. So think about reducing the power. That easier swing combined with longer clubs will counter the windy conditions. Thirdly - be sure that you have stability so a slightly wider stance will help. Put these tips into your next windy round and you will pocket the cash. The Ryder Cup - Yes it is still more than eighteen months away but the Captaincies have been announced and with universal acclaim Darren Clarke has been chosen to lead the European team. He is the man for the job, but it won’t be easy. Under his leadership Europe could win their fourth consecutive Ryder Cup. It has never happened before. It is a choice welcomed by everyone including those who were also in the running for the role. By contrast the US appear to
be struggling to find someone willing to accept the poisoned chalice. The name in the frame appears to be Davis Love iii who led the US to humiliation at Medinah. Is this a further example of the demise of golf in the US? What do you think?

Feel at home in the SX4 S-Cross FIRST IMPRESSIONS matter. In business it is that care and attention to appearance, dress and general conduct that makes a lasting impression. The same can be applied to vehicles and that’s where Suzuki scores highly. From that first moment of opening the door and sitting in the driver’s seat I feel at home in the SX4 S-Cross. Bear in mind that I drive a lot of cars and yet Suzukis always stands out because they are all comfortable. I test the Suzuki during the worst weather for 100 years. At one point over 100,000 homes are without power and some unfortunate residents in Somerset have been without power since Christmas. Flooding is encountered on almost every route but my Japanese friend with its raised ride height is ideal in such situations. High winds and water logged roads ensure that it is nigh on impossible to exceed 60mph. Those gusting high winds do buffet the Suzuki but it feels confident enough. It is quite sluggish though especially on start-up and so it is pleasing to find that it is equipped with a sport mode that livens things up. In fact it remains on this mode for most of the test because I find it gives it the ‘oomph’ that I require. Interestingly it doesn’t affect fuel economy that much either with the vehicle still returning over 40mpg, which I’m quite impressed with considering it’s a 1.6-litre petrol. When conditions become too slippery it is easy to turn the centre mounted dial to ‘snow and mud’ mode, which is also extremely useful during the test. Some of the routes that I am most familiar with have been closed due to the floods and workmen try hard to remedy the situation. All this talk of climate change being the problem - Queen
Victoria reported similar circumstances in her diary many years ago. Whatever the reason, you’re grateful to be driving the SX4 S-Cross. The raised ride height, the permanent 4WD and the powerful windscreen wipers and washers make driving in these challenging conditions enjoyable rather than a chore. My two girls in the back quickly fall asleep and my wife Caroline finds her heated front seat comfortable. “I like the lemon fragrance to the windscreen wash,” she says, adding that sometimes it can be very overpowering requiring the windows to be wound down. The large glass panoramic roof makes the cabin feel light and airy and on just one of the days of the test the sun actually appears bringing the glass roof
really into its own. I like the fact that the front part also has a tilting sunroof function. New price: 18,117€ to 28,444€ 0-60mph: 12secs Top speed: 108mph Economy: 40mpg Watch the video at www.testdrives.biz
