Winning Express falls INVESTORS IN ‘sporting arbitrage’ company Winning Express fear they have lost their cash in an alleged multi-million scam. by jack troughton A meeting of worried clients in Spain has been told that just £9 million of an expected £30 million has been traced to bank accounts around the world. The heavily advertised scheme offered tax free income without risk to capital to its members – including some 500 people living on the Spanish Costas. But people requesting the return of their investment say they have been fobbed off with excuses and have received nothing. Winning Express clients have been advised to contact the police. Winning Express, which used a business
address in Sheffield, had sporting stars like former footballer and television pundit Steve Claridge and ex-snooker player and television personality John Virgo and former Sheffield Wednesday player David Hirst to endorse the scheme. And the company described itself as “a sporting business service providing customers tax free income and growth through the sporting stock exchange.” Alarm bells started ringing for clients when monthly payments started to dry up – some customers received over 2% in ‘winnings’ and commissions for introducing new investors.

ANXIOUS WINNING Express investors fear the worst after being unable to withdraw savings trusted to the company and its promises of tax free income from sporting arbitrage while keeping capital safe. Allegations of dishonesty are spread across the internet but it now appears punters risk losing more than their shirts unless their money can be found in a tangled web of international bank accounts. At RTN Towers we wait with our readers – many of whom were investors – for news. In the meantime they have been advised to make complaints to the police in the UK. On a happier note, volunteer firemen are enjoying well-deserved recognition after their heroics during the Javea and Benitachell fires. It seems the money is rolling in from donations and fund raising and will go to buy new kit and replace lost equipment. The team is also enjoying a newfound celebrity status in the area, possibly with a chance to unwind; and probably involving some liquid refreshment.

Bravery rewarded “VALIANT” VOLUNTEER firemen in Javea have been rewarded with two donations from Freemasons to replace vital equipment lost as they fought the huge forest fires earlier this month. by Jack Troughton The Masonic Homes of Valencia Association has pledged 10,000€ to the ISVH Bomberos Voluntarios of Balcon al Mar, while a Freemasons Ladies Festival organised by Javea-based Logia Deportiva 83 raised 1,300€ for the firefighters. The money will be used to buy new equipment and repair and maintain other essentials at the fire station such as pumps, breathing apparatus, uniforms, masks, and hoses. And the Moraira Charity Shop, the Masonic Homes of Valencia’s main source of income, was proud to play a part in helping raise the cash; thanking its donors, customers and staff. Freemasons’ spokesman William Turney said a meeting was held by the association when it was decided to make the donation – a cheque will be officially handed to the firemen at a later date. “The Bomberos reacted magnificently to those tragic fires, some apparently deliberately set, which have destroyed around 20 houses and devastated the local countryside,” he said. DAMAGE “Many people had to be evacuated and much collateral damage was done to homes, gardens and the surrounding countryside, some of which will take years to recover.” He added: “The Bomberos fought valiantly at great personal risk...risking their lives to help save us, the citizens of Javea. Much of their equipment can only be used a finite number of times before needing replacement. “The Masonic Homes of Valencia thought this brave dedication to duty should not go unnoticed or unrewarded and so made this very welcome decision to help the men who have helped us so much.” The Logia Deportiva ladies night was held at the Denia Marriott and special guests were Alan Lawton – the Commandant of the Bomberos – and colleagues; who were “delighted” to receive the donation. Highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque to Alan by current Master of the lodge Glyn Walters and Charity Steward Darrel Clayton. Glyn said: “The nominated charity, ISVH Bomberos Voluntarios, was easy to select when so many families in the Javea area have been close to, or witnessed, the effects of the high temperatures and outbreaks of fire near their homes and have welcomed the support of the Bomberos.”

Spain is ‘lame duck’ SPAIN’S FOREIGN Ministry fears Madrid is in danger of becoming an international lame duck because of the ongoing political stalemate. by Jack Troughton Two general elections have failed to give the country a new government and acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy leads a ‘caretaker’ administration. This week leading daily newspaper El Pais published details of a report from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which warns after nine months “the continuity of the caretaker government is having increasingly serious consequences for Spain’s international projection, derived from an international deadlock that makes our country look like an international lame duck. “The limits on diplomatic action, the loss of profile and influence, and the slowdown in decision making all have negative consequences for our international prestige.” And the report, called ´The cost on non-government’, warns the spaces left by Spain on the world stage were quickly being filled by competing countries. There is multi-party agreement that Spain should ratify the Paris agreement on climate change but the matter has still to go before congress. Other areas of concern include an Asian investment bank, extending the lease on NASA’s Deep Space Communications Station, social security agreements with the United States, airspace deals with India, Mexico and Uzbekistan, and dual taxation treaties with Mexico, Finland, and Qatar. Royal trips abroad by King Filipe have been shelved or cancelled and visits from overseas are on hold. In addition, key talks with European partners have not been staged recently, and international aid funds have not been released. One Spanish diplomat said in international politics “lost opportunities” did not come back – the report noted: “Who is going to ally themselves with a caretaker government that cannot promise anything?”
Winning Express falls by Jack Troughton INVESTORS IN ‘sporting arbitrage’ company Winning Express fear they have lost their cash in an alleged multi-million scam. A meeting of worried clients in Spain has been told that just £9 million of an expected £30 million has been traced to bank accounts around the world. And the company described itself as “a sporting business service providing customers tax free income and growth through the sporting stock exchange.” Alarm bells started ringing for clients when monthly payments started to dry up – some customers received over 2% in ‘winnings’ and commissions for introducing new investors. Regulators at the Financial Conduct Authority confirmed to RTN this week that neither Winning Express nor its parent company Milton Express “appear on our public register.” Administration company Milton Admin, again of Sheffield, has ceased to act for Winning Express or Milton Express and director John O’Brien has contacted clients urging a class action to try and recover money. FUNDS The company was formed in November last year but Mr O’Brien said it no longer acted for Milton Express – believed to be registered in the Seychelles - after there was a failure to provide funding to clear a backlog of payments or pay for administration costs. In the past days the Winning Express website has been taken down, although its Facebook page is still active – and now lists a series of allegations from disgruntled customers. A number of clogs also chart the last months as investors queried what was happening. The offices of Winning Express in Spain in La Zenia have also been shut on the directions of the administration company. One RTN reader – who asked not to be named – said Spanish clients had been contacted by Mr O’Brien saying “his company had finished with Winning Express. “We have been advised to contact the police in the UK – apparently there are about 500 people here in Spain who are clients.” She said she had £40,000 invested with Winning Express and her son had trusted a further £20,000 with the company. “And I know others who are in a similar situation – it is very worrying. “Apparently money has been taken out of the system and the bank is out of money…everyone has been waiting for their money; we have had nothing for six months now.” And another reader, who also wanted to remain anonymous, attended a Torrevieja meeting last week. “The outcome was we are going to get together and take legal action and try to recover whatever is left. “John O’Brien and a few others have formed a committee to take this forward. There should have been around £30 million to pay everyone out – so far around £9 million has been traced, but exactly where that is, he is not sure.” He said the meeting was told of offshore bank accounts spread across the globe including Mauritius, the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong. “There are also two more companies Sporting Arbitrage Ltd, and Sporting Arbitrage UK, which I think is in Hong Kong. “You cannot help but fear the worst…this really is a whole bag of worms.”
Brits can give blood
BRITISH EXPATS can be blood donors in Spain as long as they meet certain criteria regarding ‘mad cow’s disease’, caught by humans eating infected beef. People are banned from giving blood or donating organs “if they lived more than 12 months consecutively in the UK from 1986 to 1990”. The condition is imposed to prevent the possible transmission of Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease, the human variant of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy. There are two ‘marathon’ donor sessions next week. In Denia at the Centro Social in Calle Calderon, on Thursday 29th September between 10am and 2pm, and 5pm to 9pm. And on Friday 30th September, donors can give blood at Calpe’s Punto Joven in Plaza Constitucion, between 9.30am and 1.30pm, and 4.30pm and 8.30pm.

Drugs sniffed out GUARDIA CIVIL officers did not need specialist sniffer dogs to raid a suspected drug den - they just followed their noses. by Caroline Tyszka Five people were arrested in Adra, Almeria, during an operation by the police to locate and close down marijuana plantations. Once in the area, officers noticed a very strong aroma and tracked the scent to a house near the Adra River and investigated. Entering the property, they discovered 172 cultivated plants and many dried leaves, there were also buds hung up to dry and a vast array of heating lamps, air conditioning units and fans. All five occupants of the house were immediately arrested but known only as TAM aged 47; FRM, 49; KRA aged 24; ORA, 27; and 22-year-old IRP. They have all been charged with the cultivation and production of narcotics and later appeared at the Berja, Almeria Guardia court.

Beach name controversy A COSTA Blanca town has become divided by an online poll intended to help name its new beach. by Caroline Tyszka The new area in Altea, along with other works such as parking, has been carried out by the Ministry of the Environment with a budget of 4,664,000€. However, the online poll does not offer the option to those voting to make their own suggestions, presumably to avoid a similar situation to the UK in a poll - where a new polar research ship will be named RRS Sir David Attenborough, despite the title “Boaty McBoatface” winning the public vote. The name choices on offer are Clot de Mingot, La Font de Pesària, Calafat, L’Astillero and L’Espigó. Whilst many people recognise that the options are meaningful to the area, others have suggested “New Beach” or “Del Meneo”, in memory of a gathering point for young people for over twenty years.

Follow emergency orders EXPATS WERE urged to always follow the instructions of the local authorities in an emergency situation following the mass evacuations during a Costa Blanca blaze. by Jack Troughton British Consul Sarah-Jane Morris visited Javea following the recent forest fires and said following orders in such circumstances saved lives. The huge fire, believed to be an arson attack, destroyed 820 hectares of land in the resort and neighbouring Benitachell earlier this month. It was an opportunity for the consul to thank the heroes who fought the fire which destroyed 20 homes but threatened scores of properties. Around a fifth of the Javea population is British and the town ranks in the top 10 in Alicante for the number of UK citizens in the community. Many of the 1,400 people were evacuated – some 300 were accommodated in a local school – during the fire. Fortunately no one was hurt. And British Honorary Consul Mark Petrie visited people affected as the drama unfolded and was able to witness firsthand the “fantastic job” professional and volunteer emergency services fighting the fire and supporting people forced to flee the flames. HELP As part of the visit, Mrs Morris, accompanied by new Consular Regional Director Gerard McGurk, met with the fire fighters of ISVH Balcón del Mar (pictured) to thank them for
their help. British volunteers numbered within the ranks of those tackling the fires, and Balcón del Mar Commandant Alan Lawton was able meet the Consul. The fire fighters asked the Consulate to support them in ensuring that British nationals know how to stay safe in a fire and to put their trust in the local authorities. The British officials also greeted Doris Courcelles, the councillor for EU residents in Jávea, who worked continuously through the disaster to provide support to those affected. The Consul said: “We are very thankful for all of the support
provided to the large number of British nationals who were in the area during the blaze. “It is clear from what I have seen today that the whole community pulled together to help those who were evacuated and whose houses have been damaged. “I can also see that if it were not for the quick action from local authorities and volunteers, the result could have been far more devastating. I hope no one has to go through this kind of situation again but if you do, it is essential to follow the instructions from the local police and fire fighters – it could save your life.”

Play to win FOOTBALL STAR Alan Kennedy – who scored winning goals in two European Cup finals for Liverpool – went out on a Costa Blanca golf course to determined to make a difference for charity. by Jack Troughton The 62-year-old was the celebrity guest at the second annual Golf Tournament run by Continental Wealth Management at La Sella Golf at the Denia Marriott. And the defender - who served under three managers at Anfield, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish – helped raise over 2,300€ for charity; 750€ for the Red Cross in Javea and the balance for Grant A Wish. Joining 40 players on the course, he said: “I am really looking forward to a good round today, and being a sportsman I want to do my best and hopefully win; however, the biggest winner is charity. “I’m very happy to be here in Spain and I am enjoying the hospitality, the golf, and helping a good cause as well.” With a handicap of 15, Alan regularly plays charity golf and still turns out to play football in aid of good causes. “Last week I played at St George’s Park, the Football Association’s headquarters in England, which was for a charity called ‘Headway’ which deals with people who have suffered knocks to the head and have side effects as a result. “I love to be able to help and this is another day I will love – what more can you ask for? There is glorious weather,
lovely people and a cause very dear to everyone’s hearts.” He said he was a “decent” golfer and enjoyed the sport – adding his home in Southport was surrounded by golf courses. ASSET Alan was an outstanding fullback for Liverpool, always ready to get forward to help set up an attack – and he proved an invaluable asset in the European Cup finals in Paris in 1981 and Rome in 1984. “I scored the winning goals in both finals – although scoring wasn’t the name of my game; my job was to defend.” The 1981 final was against Spanish giant Real Madrid. Alan popped up to break the deadlock in a 1-0 win. “I thought ‘if anyone is going to do it, why not me?’ I took a shot, got a goal and the victory.” And in 1984, it was 1-1 against Roma when the game went to penalties, the Reds winning 4-2 from the spot-kicks. “I was really nervous when I was asked to take a penalty – as I will be at the first tee today – because I don’t like people watching...you have to get used to the crowds,” he said. “It is very difficult when you have to score a penalty...but I did score and the rest is history.” Alan is pictured on the course at La Sella with CWM Director Jody Kirby and later entertained guests with a humorous look back at the adventures of his career.

Gooners at the seaside
ARSENAL FANS created an Emirates Stadium-on-sea on the Costa Blanca for the official supporters club’s annual general meeting. by Jack Troughton Members gathered under blue sky at the Grava Beach in Javea Beach for the AGM – where lotion and motions were carried as bemused sunbathers looked on. It is the Costa Blanca Arsenal Supporters Club’s 14th year as an official club; membership is growing year on year and there are now 90 dedicated followers of the Premiership side known as ‘Gooners’. After electing officials and voting on other club business, the meeting ended and members
adjourned to the club headquarters, nearby Cheers Bar where they joined other supporters watching the 3-1 victory away at Hull. Club secretary Bob Shinkins said “Costa Blanca residents, part time residents and holiday-making Gooners are welcome to join us for matches at Cheers Bar which is situated in the port area of Javea under the arch.” Virtually every Arsenal game is screened live and visitors are sure of a warm welcome from their fellow Gooners and can join the club if they wish. Fibre optic expansion PLANS HAVE been announced by Telefónica to expand its highspeed fibre optic network in the Levante area of Benidorm. The company aims to provide an additional 15,000 busi-
nesses, apartments and houses with the service by the end of the year. Work has begun to install the cables which will benefit the Rincon de Loix area. A local resi-
dent Adolfo Valor, said: “Many residents have been forced to choose Wi-Fi connections because problems with landlines mean internet services are not up to standard; most of these people would prefer to have the faster fibre optic service.” The new expansion will cost Telefónica 1.6 million euros and when completed will mean that more than 70% of Benidorm has access to the super fast link.

Pharmacy owner arrested THE OWNER of a Costa Blanca pharmacy has been arrested for defrauding the Spanish National Health System. Guardia Civil officers detained the 60-yearold man at the premises in El Campello following allegations that he had committed forgery by copying prescriptions, and selling the items on the black market. The investigation began following a complaint to the Inspectorate of Pharmacy Territorial Health in Alicante – leading to the premises being searched and evidence seized. Officers discovered information was copied from medical cards – and, used in conjunction with a new electronic prescription system – additional prescriptions were issued so more drugs being dispensed and paid for by the system. Storing the illegally obtained drugs the pharmacist would then sell them abroad, mainly in Algeria and Morocco. Items seized included almost a hundred medical card files used in the crime along and five boxes of prescription drugs believed to have been obtained using the forged documents. Four other members of the pharmacy staff, two men and two women are also being investigated.
The Tiki Beach bar on the Levante sea front in Benidorm has again received a visit from the police following complaints – this time in relation to dangerous broken glass on the main promenade. The venue, which often has live music, has become a well-known meeting point for those visiting from the UK because of its cheap drinks. However, as the terraces soon become packed during the day, many drinkers venture onto the road separating the bar from the beach with drinking glasses in hand – with some customers dropping them, leaving shards of glass for pedestrians, cyclists and car drivers to negotiate. This latest incident is just one of a string of complaints about Tiki Beach – with ongoing legal proceedings regarding neighbourhood complaints about the noise – and the Supreme Court has still to decide if the bar can remain open.

Presenting housers... The first platform for real estate crowd-funding in Spain! The revolutionary, alternative investment strategy, that’s safe, secure and profitable with minimal risk. The current return on investment in real estate outshines other products like bank deposits, stocks, shares, pension funds, treasury bills, bonds and traditional real estate. Normally, property investment involves substantial sums of money, or a mortgage just to buy one property, with more risks and possible long-term debt.
But by ‘crowd-funding’ the opportunities are endless. The term speaks for itself and basically means: a union of people investing varying sums of money to finance something; in this case property. There is no need to break the bank by shelling out large sums of money that you can’t afford, as investments start from as little as 50€. You can invest in just one property or as many as are available, depending on your financial situation and goals. You may also wonder if there is much risk of losing your capital but, as we are talking of a physical asset, that is normally located in the centre of big cities like Madrid or Barcelona, the risk is very minimal indeed. You will be the actual co-owner too, unlike with time-share where you may only own a few weeks a year for your personal use. There is no catch or small print concerns to worry about either, as everything is above board and transparent with full supporting and notarized legal documentation provided for every investment you make. Housers does everything on your behalf and only makes money if you do and then, only on benefits like dividends and after-sale capital gains. The progress of your investment can also be monitored on-line using the Housers’ Big Data tools so you can see the performance and yield. You may wonder where and how we initially find the properties? The simple answer is that firstly, we search for commercial or residential properties that are 20 to 25% below market value and are in prime locations for rental and eventual resale. Our property team of experts at Housers meticulously study any project and conduct a
rigorous selection process before a decision is made. When everyone is in full agreement, the property becomes ‘under contract’ exclusively to Housers for eventual purchase by its investors. The property is then uploaded to our web platform (housers.com) where potential investors can consider their option to invest and how much. Currently, investors have already pledged more than 10 million Euros and we now have over 22,000 users that are growing daily. So, how do you make money? Simple, there are two ways: you will receive a monthly income from the rental until the property is sold, proportionate to your investment for every property that you have invested in; secondly, when the property is sold, which is only when revaluation reaches the predefined goal, you will receive your proportion relevant to the percentage of your investment of the total property value. What’s the next step for you? Firstly, all you need do is sign up to Housers, at Housers.com that is quick, safe, simple and FREE and does not imply any obligation whatsoever. The Housers account does not have any associated fees: you can deposit and withdraw funds whenever you want and at no cost. Once you complete the registration, you will have access to all detailed documentation and tools to analyse the investment opportunities that you are interested in. The return on investment with Housers far exceeds other investment methods. The following chart is based on true comparisons to other investments assuming one invests 10.000€ for a period of 15 years and dividends are reinvested: Sources: Bolsas y Mercados, elEconomista.es, Ministerio de Fomento, El Mundo, Banco de España. All this data can be substantiated. For further clarification, please go to our web site at: housers.com under ‘investors’, ‘key comparative’. On our web you will see our current projects and photos
showing those properties that are available and those that are fully funded together with the returns on investment that have been achieved so far - for this click on the ‘opportunities’ heading. All this may seem too good to be true but you only need to see the success of our current investors to see that this is an opportunity not to be missed; one that is totally transparent, simple, safe, legal and undoubtedly the revolutionary way forward in investment strategy. Why invest now in Spanish property? As is widely known, Spanish real estate prices have suffered in the latest crisis and are now at a very attractive level. However, we now see clear signs of recovery: rising prices, rising number of transactions, increase in the number of mortgages and an increase in rental prices. Unlike other countries that may be at the top of their cycle after years of rising prices, Spain is just at the start, which makes it very attractive for investment now. Various important foreign investors have been acquiring Spanish real estate in the past year, reinforcing that it is a very good moment to enter the market. BECOME A HOUSER Now! Visit today our website and sign-up at: housers.com where you’ll find everything you need to know about this exciting investment opportunity, including FAQ’s for answers to any questions that you may have. Alternatively, we can also attend to your questions in English via support@housers.com or by calling 911 930 730 (regular office hours apply). Welcome to Housers. Welcome to the revolution in the real estate market– much more than investment.

‘SONGAMINUTE MAN’ Ted McDermott – the 80-yearold with Alzheimer’s – has won a top record deal after his car karaoke went viral across the globe. Son Simon discovered how singing in the car helped his dad cope with the disease. Videos of Ted in full voice, often in a duet, were posted online, grabbed over 40 million views and in a bid to raise awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society last week had netted over £115,000. And the dramatic rise to fame has now netted Ted a deal with Decca Records. His first release is ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’, famously recorded by Frank Sinatra – the single out today (Friday) is coupled with ‘Quando, Quando, Quando’...already an ‘in car’ hit. Ted was once a Butlin’s Redcoat and has sung all his life in clubs around the UK. However, while at times having difficulty in recognising his son after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2013, he remembers the words to classic songs. He has since been in London recording with the Guy Baker Big Band and has been photographed outside the world-famous Abbey Road Studios where the single was mixed and mastered. Proceeds from sales of the single will benefit the Alzheimer’s Society and the McDermott family. Ted’s family described it as a “dream come true” for the new recording star and added it was “great to help the Alzheimer’s Society who provide so much help and support to other families going through the same things as us.”

The secrets of Guardamar by Jack Troughton THE HISTORY of Guardamar del Segura dates back to before the birth of Christ and across the centuries the town has been home to Phoenicians, Muslims and Christians. The opportunity to step back in time and discover some of the secrets was taken by 49 members of U3A Marina Baixa. The modern Guardamar was built after a major earthquake struck in 1829, the event destroyed the castle and left 3,000 people homeless; but it allowed the carefully planned symmetrical grid system of streets seen today to be constructed. After a snapshot of the history was given at the Tourist Office before the party travelled north, an area that was once a dense forest but when the trees were felled to make warships, the land became vulnerable to shifting sand dunes.
However, a new forest of pines, palms, grasses and agave was planted to stabilise the sand and now provides a network of shaded walkways in a protected area where traffic is banned. Under the sand was discovered the remains of the Rabita Califal, which dates back to the 10th Century, once a spiritual retreat and alongside is a mosque – unusually facing Mesquita in Cordoba rather than Mecca. The party took the train back to town (pictured) and lunch before the return journey to Albir via the Salinas of Santa Pola. U3A Marina Baixa holds its general meetings on the fourth Monday of the month in the Casa de Cultura, Alfaz del Pi; the next is Monday 26th September at 11am. For more information about U3A visit the website www.u3amarinabaixa.com or the Face book page. Alternatively call Joan Flint on 96 586 1226 or 663 637 167 for details.
Party at sea A 102-STRONG group of U3A Denia members and friends enjoyed a fun-packed evening on board the Mundo Ma-
rina catamaran. With food and wine supplied by Cafe Soles and entertainment provided by the talented Rob Sweeney, everyone found their sea legs for a dance. And a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday to You’ was sung after it was realised one lady in the party was celebrating her 90th birthday.
The cruise was organised to raise funds for U3A Denia’s ‘good cause’; the children’s residential home in the town. The cash will help by Christmas presents for the youngsters; which will be distributed by the association’s own ‘Papa Noel’. Everyone was treated to a spectacular sunset (pictured) on the return journey into Denia.

Macro plan investigates all spanish non declared buildings, town halls increase finning activity to buildingwork done without licence The Ministry of Finance, through the Cadastral department of the taxing office is actually carrying out a macro plan throughout all Spain to detect non declared buildings, extensions and pools. National and International newspapers such as El Pais and El Mundo along with TV broadcasts have been exposing the details of this macro operation which is targeting thousands of properties in Spain that aren’t declared to the taxing body and therefore not paying Council Tax. Cadastral office (dependent of the taxing body) has been conducting this research through technological formulas unprecedented in Spain thanks to aerial surveillance, satellite and other flying devices across Spain. In an attempt to recuperate their 80 million Euro investment by back taxing (Cadastral department can go back 4 years if they detect non declared extensions or pools) and through increase of council taxes, an estimated 1.254 million Euros in the Property Tax (Also know as IBI or SUMA) alone, according to official figures by the Ministry. All this is an attempt to stop tax fraud on non-declared extensions, pools or even whole properties. The whole operation is expected to finish in 2017. The problem is Planning Departments in
some Town Halls are using this information to fine extensions and pools done without licence. As a result of this massive investigation and clamp down Martinez de la Casa Architects have seen a huge escalation in requests for Retrospective Licences / Certificates of Antiquity in order to make the building works unobjectionable to the Town Hall planning department, preventing a fine or action against properties owners that have built extensions or pools without the proper licence. If you have done any extension or pool and are concerned about this recent proactivity of the Spanish Authorities and wish to protect yourself from potential fines from the Town Halls planning department, Martinez de la Casa Architects offer Antiquity Certificates / Retrospective Licences stamped by the Official College of Architects or Notarised and delivered within a very strict 7-10 days deadline after the survey requiring only your NIE and current Title Deeds to complete the certificate. This document can also be used to upgrade your property’s Title Deeds with any extension or pool done to the property. Conditions needed in order to obtain Retrospective Licences / Antiquity Certificates for extensions or pools are: ALICANTE AREA: The extension or pool needs to be over 4 years old, before the 20th August
of 2014 (a minimum of 6 years since built) ALMERIA AREA: The extension or pool needs to be over 6 years old (except for natural parks and protected areas) MURCIA AREA: The extension or pool needs to be over 4 years old (except for natural parks and protected areas) The price of a Pool Antiquity Certificate or Retrospective Licence is 190 €+IVA and for Extensions plus Pool, or for the complete property, at 270 €+IVA. CAM Participations (Cuotas Participativas). Have you lost money invested? Get your money back There could be potentially thousands of customers and small investors who have lost money invested in the Participating Shares (Cuotas Participativas) of the CAM bank, mainly within the provinces of Alicante and Valencia. Among those affected by this toxic investment product, many are expatriates. In many cases their bank did not disclose that they were contracting a complex, high-risk, and non-guaranteed financial product. As recognized by the Spanish Court Precedents, the CAM Participations were equity securities, therefor much more complex than ordinary company shares. Their value not only depended on the earnings of the CAM but also of how much of that benefit the CAM wanted to use for Cuotas Participativas. Moreover, they have no end date, being therefor perpetual, although the CAM could amortize them if the bank wished. In the event of insolvency, they would be the last in line to get paid. We know that the CAM in its day marketed these Cuotas as an ordinary-common investment, as a deposit or similar, they did not explain sufficiently the nature of the product and its risks, etc. Today the current value of the CAM Participations is 0 €. We must remember at this point that as per Spanish law and in relation to this type of investment, the bank must explain in a clear and sufficient way, the nature of the investment, its risks and should provide adequate information about the financial instruments, risks associated, etc. Apparently, as has been published by a national Spanish newspaper, the CAM in a premeditated manner, designed a strategy to convince their customers to invest in this product, concealing the true nature, having delivered to their employees some kind of action protocol indicating how to sell the product, what to say in each case, etc. Even a board member of CAM stated that the situation was abusive, that the CAM Participating Shares, cuotas participativas, were not properly explained to clients. Our firm has been able to successfully help several clients affected by the CAM Participations to claim for the money invested. Contact us and we’ll help.

Stop and Think
A recent official study in the UK has revealed that a financial fraud occurs every 15 seconds, but don’t feel smug because you don’t live in the UK, financial fraud where companies target UK expatriates is on the rise and a problem. To coincide with the figures, major banks and financial services providers have come together for the first time to launch a national campaign to combat financial fraud called Take Five. This will focus on the financial frauds that directly target customers, such as phishing emails that purport to come from organisations such as banks, or HM Revenue & Customs (I received one such email yesterday purporting to be from HMRC saying I was due a tax refund of some £300 and even though I haven’t lived in the UK for years it looked so genuine even I thought about opening the link, but resisted the urge) and phone and text-based scams. Among the biggest growth areas are impersonation and deception scams, which involve criminals duping victims into disclosing their details. Fraudsters have increasingly been hacking into email accounts and then posing as the builder, solicitor or other tradesperson that the consumer has legitimately employed. Remember scammers will pretend to be anyone to get hold of your details, they can use email or the phone, they can pretend to be a Bank official, a person from Microsoft, an email from Ebay or Paypal. So what is the Take Five, this is five things you should do help you avoid being a victim of fraud 1. Don’t assume an email, text or phone call is genuine 2. Never ever disclose personal or security information 3. Don’t be rushed 4. Trust and listen to your instincts 5. Take control The main message is that you need to be AWARE, I hate to say this but don’t be so trusting when approached by cold callers, emails and texts from people you don’t know and even emails that look like they are from people you do know. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Action in the seventh house activates an energy field that sees you ready and willing to take on something new. Whilst Pluto protects and strengthens Mercury directs and makes communication into a useful process on your behalf. As these two planets trine midweek you will find that you are feeling the spring in your step and responding differently. Venus opposes dwarf planet Ceres, and it may be a question of bad timing to explain away a week of cancellations and delays. Check anything that is out of your own conscious control, and be patient! Whatever happens keep your temper, even if, all around you, everybody seems to be losing theirs for one very good reason or another!
The Sun, exalted, basks in her powerful rays in the poise and balance that peppers your life somewhat. Routines are challenged this week as you appear to be covering for someone else, but this gives you the perfect opportunity to take the control you seek by showing all concerned what you can really do if you try. Especially if you are just left alone!
Venus in her capacity as the Goddess of Love makes a sweeping entrance at the weekend. Love brings you some anxiety as you need to rebuild your confidences and drop the suspicions that cloud your judgments. This is a time to put love into all that you do in your agenda, but really the most love you need now is that, that is destined for yourself! Someone has taken the wrong end of the stick and your very The current Mercury trine in Pluto brings a chance to start best of intentions have been misconstrued, to say the least. something all over again. Timings will play a generous part of this lucky reward which you well deserve after having worked flat out to get things done. Time, now, is certainly on your side!
The Sun conjuncts Jupiter bringing you the ability to make a major difference to some fund raising or financial promotion. Putting your stamp on things has steered this project out of danger, and into prosperity; and you have worked tirelessly to ensure that goals are met all ways. This is not a time to walk away but you can best see your next move Pluto has a hypnotic effect as you start to open up more and start to care for the inner you in the current change of circumstances. You are not responsible, but you have taken control when it was necessary, and you are not about to back down now without some kind of a fight. Keep up the balance in this trine, as Mercury wants his pound of flesh.
Mighty planet of innovations and inventions, Uranus conjuncts with dwarf planet Kora midweek. This action gives you the centre stage when it comes to selling yourself. You are more than you think that you are; and that can make such a difference to what comes next for you. Believe and you will find the richest rewards can be yours. Time was when you were afraid to say no! This week you are unaware of what is behind an innocent request, and quite rightly, though your suspicions are aroused, you love to give somebody the benefit of the doubt. Beware, because somebody’s message has an ulterior motive that you just do not want to get involved in, whatever you do Ceres is in opposition to Venus and too close to comfort with Jupiter. This means that, whilst a little luck can maybe rub off on you, there may be a price to pay somehow. There is a green light on a seasonal project that would unite you with a partner to get the job done in half the time and bring you right back together; where you both belong.

Kenny, just lately everything I have done seems to be wrong. I feel that I am losing my connection with Spirit somehow and maybe it is time for me to go and do other things. I feel lost and I need to be found! Janet D. Janet we have all been there! You didn’t work it so that everything went wrong, and amongst what you did was a sincere need to do your best...that is all we can really do. I do understand about your disconnection with Spirit, and I really hope here you can change your mind and give everything another go. It isn’t so easy to say goodbye to Spirit and you will probably feel that it is now a part of your life and therefore near impossible to throw away. I sincerely hope that things change for you, from out of the dumps and into the amazing light and love out there for us all in the Spirit World, come what may!
If It’s Your Birthday This Week Timing has to be right, so whatever you do don’t jump the gun this time! Prepare yourself for some hard work until the end of Autumn; after which things will somehow fit better together for you and for all whom you love.

Microsoft Money
Hi Aunty, I use Microsoft Money (2005). I installed it on windows 8.1 and it also worked fine, but then I updated this computer to windows 10. Although Money is still there and it will open and the accounts are all there, when I try to restore the back up it just will not do it. I have looked on the net for some help and some are saying that it will only work with Explorer 6 installed, I have Explorer 11 installed but I cannot see why Explorer has anything to do with the running of money anyway. I was wondering if you had come across at all and if you knew of a solution. I appreciate that very few people use money now, but I like it and of course have years of work on it. Thanks, Regards, Michael. Reply: It does appear as if MS Money 2005 does have some incompatibility issues with W10. Not surprising when MS Money was discontinued in 2009, to be replaced by MS Money Plus. One of the popular error messages is indeed “Money requires Internet Explorer 6 to function properly. Please reinstall Internet Explorer 6 so these components can be added. But it can be solved by making a few registry changes. It is recommended that you create a System Restore point before trying the steps mentioned below. And note that changing registry values may harm your PCs performance. With those warning made: 1. Press Windows Key + R combination, type regedit in Run dialog box and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.Regedit-W-10 2. Navigate to following registry location: (64-bit Windows) : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer (32-bit Windows) : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer 3. At this registry location, highlight the Internet Explorer key in the left pane. Then in corresponding right pane, look for the registry string named Version, its default value is set to 9.11.10240.16384. Double click on it to change its Value data. 4. Change the Value data and set it to 9.11.10240.0. 5. Click OK, restart your system to make changes effective. After rebooting the machine, open Microsoft Money and it should work fine now.

Race day success
SIX BOATS and crews competed in the first racing of the Sailing Association Mar Menor’s Autumn 2016 series – seen as a good start to the season with many members still away. by Jack Troughton It was decided to stage a single race of six laps, a reasonably testing and lengthy course; with a challenging narrow start gate – which all boats met showing off excellent handling skills. First off were the two ‘sailfish’ with only five seconds separating them over the start line and the dinghy start was even more exciting, with all 4 boats jostling for position and crossing within seconds of each other. Six laps proved to be quite tiring for some of the crews and they were spaced out over the course. However, with the slight adjustments of the handicaps since last season, the final results were quite close with Sirocco first, followed by Shoestring Dos and Tres in close pursuit. All SAMM races take place from the CTD sports center on the beach at Los Narejos. Registration is at 10am and nonmembers are welcome. The next race day

Stay forever young
LIFESTYLE COACH Skip Archimedes visits the Costa Blanca next month on a mission to help people look and feel younger – and add quality time to their lives. by Jack Troughton He is hosting a free open day at the Denia Marriott Hotel and promises to share some “forgotten secrets” surrounding longevity and fun ways to improve lifestyles. Skip has been dubbed ‘The Miracle Man’. He was once told he would never walk again after an accident while training as a top gymnast – but recovered from a broken back and now preaches what he practiced in improving health, using ancient skills. He now passes on those lessons to thousands of people across the globe. His clients include the rich and famous and also ordinary people who want to benefit. Saturday 15th October is an opportunity to hear his message. “People are seeing so many benefits, like saying ‘goodbye’ to aches and pains; shedding excess weight; waking up feeling rested, recovered and energised; with increased energy levels, glowing skin, and genuinely feeling happier about themselves and life,” he said. “Your mind and body are the only things that are with you from the day you are born until the day you pass on, so making sure they function well should be a top priority.” Skip believes many modern foods are packed with harmful chemicals while drinks are full of also full of toxins that poison the body and prematurely age people. CHOICE He added: “So many of the diseases, infections, ailments, and illnesses that destroy the quality of people’s lives can be avoided or turned around by making some simple lifestyle choices.” And he said the open day was an opportunity to reconnect to the innocence and truth of children. “Not to be childish but to be childlike again.” Skip believes it is a chance to take full control of thoughts and emotions and the “phenomenal vehicle” of the human body. He said he will show people how to recharge their batteries on a daily basis – just as everyone now powers up their mobile phones and electronic devices. “This day will give you the perfect platform to enjoy the rest of your life; happier, with more energy, having better relationships, with better balance, living with the body you deserve, and waking up to life in all its greatness.” To sign up to the free one-day event at the La Sella Marriot Denia, go to http://skiparchimedes.com/foreveryoung.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// There´s not much that goes unnoticed when Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton steps out these days, and when she appeared in the US last week wearing a pair of Bi-Stretch Skinny Ankle Pants that cost a mere $25 from a Gap store, the fashion police were onto her in a flash. She did however balance the books rather cleverly by sporting a navy blue blazer that is more likely to be found in the closets of the wellheeled, retailing at $615. Kate was dubbed the best dressed woman of the summer by the Daily Mail, and another odd little accolade for Kate came from US plastic surgeon Julian De Silva. As is his want, he decided to look into his client’s requests for ´the most desirable face, ´ and the most popular nose was Kate´s. I´ll bet she was blown away by that!
Five months ago I did a piece on Harry Styles´ acting debut, and the chances are a fair percentage of you thought he might fall on his proverbial ass. Oddly enough the film ´Dunkirk’ is also a WW2 movie, but that aside, any scepticism you may have had can now be kicked into touch as Harry has ´done good´ according to his lofty co-stars. With the filming now completed costume designer Krista Guggia posted a snap on Instagram showing her posing alongside Harry with the caption “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with this true class act and I can’t wait to see the final product!” Harry co-stars with Tom Hardy, Oscar winner Mark Rylance, Cillian Murphy and Kenneth Branagh with Rylance saying “he never made any fuss; he´s got a lovely character … a natural!” Never judge a book by its cover eh?
Get up on your feet … Mel G is back! Mel Gibson has been through so much over the last few years in terms of his career, that saying he´s been to ´hell and back´ is not a sufficiently strong enough statement to describe how it’s been for him. Having said that, as we are all suckers for the ´comeback kid´ syndrome, get ready for a tale of epic proportions. Mel has directed new film ´Hacksaw Ridge´ that has won over both critics and audiences at the Venice Film Festival, receiving a full 10 minute standing ovation, and all that out-pouring has now turned into talk of him being in line for the Best Director Oscar at next year’s Academy Awards. The film got four stars from The Telegraph, a glowing review from The Hollywood Reporter, and Andrew Pulver of the Guardian said “ if Gibson was ‘looking for redemption’ with this true story from WW2, he has found it. Hacksaw Ridge stars Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn, Teresa Palmer and Sam Worthington, and although it has yet to be given a UK release date, will be in US cinemas on November 4. Go Mel Go! Country singer Garth Brooks had a rather poignant reaction to seeing a video of actor Ashton Kutcher singing his hit “Friends in Low Places” to an Iowa concert crowd …”don’t quit your day job” was his kindly remark. Brooks was being interviewed on Facebook Live, and after watching a video of Kutcher joining singer Thomas Rhett on stage for his infectious and infamous drinking song said “I´ve been seeing it everywhere today, some kind of wild thing with Ashton Kutcher, and Thomas decides to invite Ashton on stage and, of course, what song are they gonna do?” Actor Ashton Kutcher, who is big buddies with country music superstar Kenny Chesney, obviously fancies himself on the old vocal department, but as this video proves, he´s no singer. Ashton Kutcher Sings On Stage With Thomas Rhett - Watch Now!
Every now and then two worlds collide, and when they do the outcome can range from total disaster to total euphoria, and all points in between. Somewhere in the middle seems to have been the case in the south of France last week when 49 year old musician and well known maddo Noel Gallagher sat down to lunch with 73 year old Robert de Niro, with the former Oasis guitarist saying to The Daily Star “I sat next to him and I’ve got to say he didn’t have a clue who I was … we had this lunch that started at one o’clock in the afternoon, and he left about eight or nine. As he was leaving he said, ´Write down the name of that band again that you were in! ´ If I ever meet him again I´m sure he’ll just go, “I’ve never met this guy!” Oh Noel of little faith!

Red Cross a winner
Cakes and coffee for Macmillan
by Jack Troughton
HELP OF DENIA and the Marina Alta took a punt in the Red Cross Lottery and also asked for a wish list of equipment. The charity spent 500€ on tickets to support the organisation – and hoping for a ‘big win’ promising plough any profits back. And HELP also offered immediate assistance and was told the Red Cross in Denia needed special rucksacks containing essential first aid equipment were needed to ferry to incidents inside ambulances. Members of the charity’s committee visited staff of the Red Cross in Denia earlier this month to see the new equipment; already in action in the field. Ana Belen Quintanar Sánchez, President of the Red Cross, thanked the charity and explained how vital the equipment was able first aiders to carry on with their much-needed work across the Marina Alta. Pictured (from left) are Malcolm Bunn, HELP Treasurer, Ana, President of the Red Cross with colleague Jose David Rivas Ferrer, Catherine Perez Pinto, Vice President of HELP, Candida Wright, President of HELP and Linda Arthur, HELP volunteer and committee member.
Autumn charity afternoon AS THE evenings draw in closer the Giving4Giving charity has planned a fun packed afternoon of music and entertainment to help two local worthy causes. On Sunday 16th October at the White Star Disco Pub in Benidorm many local artists, including Gareth Fulton,
Jo Lynn, Kay C and Tony Vincent – plus many more – will be hoping you can help them raise as much as possible for Benidorm Dog Homing and Make a Wish Spain. Gary from Giving4Giving said: “Please come along and support these two organisations who do so much good work.”
THE SECOND Chance charity shop will be holding a Macmillan coffee event on Monday 26th September between 10 am and 1 pm. Helpers at the Albir charity shop will be selling cakes, holding a raffle and
having a tombola to raise funds for the Macmillan charity - and invite as many people to attend as possible to beat last year’s amazing total of €540 - which continued to grow with additional donations.
Thanking the RTN for its continued support, he said, “we will have donated an amazing 56,000 euros by the end of the month, and, with the continued support from the community hope to exceed 60,000 very soon.” The autumn afternoon starts at 2 pm until 6 pm with an auction and some fantastic raffle prizes on offer throughout the event.

Life Coach
WITH A background in family and matrimonial mediation, Life Coach Sara Bell helps Readers with their daily worries. If you are having difficulties with relationships, family, work or any other aspect of your life, then help is at hand.
Is it over?
My husband and I are in our mid 50’s. The children have left home and we just don’t have anything in common anymore. I suppose we had always lived separate lives, having our own interests, taking separate holidays, going out on girls / lads nights out every week etc. The only real interaction was with our children and we did take family holidays. Now they have gone, there’s nothing between us. We just get up for work every day, and come home and don’t talk. Leading separate lives within a marriage is a recipe for disaster. Children are a blessing, but you can lose sight of yourselves and the relationship naturally is diluted, losing your identity as a couple if you’re not careful. Now the birds have flown the nest and you have nothing in common. Of course your marriage can be saved, but you will need counselling. This will help you to discover whether you really want to continue on together. If not, it will also enable you in breaking up. Write to Sara in confidence. A pseudonym will be used if you wish. Sara reads all letters and can give a personal reply. Email your question to agonyaunt@roundtownnews.com or Sara is available for private consultations, telephone 650 054 467.
She’s ruining everything My 14 year old daughter is rude and nasty to my new man. Her Dad and I broke up. I quickly met someone else, and he moved in. My daughter says she wants to go and live with her Dad. I asked her father if he would have her, but he said no. I can’t see why she won’t settle down and make the best of things with me and my new partner. You are not only asking your daughter to accept your new relationship, but also she has lost her Dad, who does not want her either. I imagine she is feeling very rejected and has not even begun to deal with the break up of your marriage. You and your husband are overlooking your child’s needs. She is at an impressionable age and if you don’t deal with her behaviour properly, you can expect more trouble down the road. Please all of you see a Family Counsellor.

Future simple
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
We now come to the classic Future Simple tense. Some people learn this first as the “proper” way to speak about the future, but as I have tried to explain in the previous two articles that there are a number of different ways of referring to the future, this tense being just one of them.
Before looking at how we use it though, let’s look at how to we form this tense. Here we have some good news (honestly)! which is that all three groups of verbs (ar, er, and ir) have exactly the same endings as each other, so we only have to learn one set of endings, instead of the usual three. The other main thing to realize about the formation of this tense is that the endings are added to the whole infinitive, instead of to the root of the verb. What on earth is she talking about? I hear you ask. Well, this is what I mean. You may remember that in the present tense, along with all the other tenses we’ve looked at before, we chop off the ending (the –ar, -er, -ir bit) to get to what we call the “root” of the verb, that is, the bit that’s left. So, with the verb “hablar” (to speak) we chop off the “ar” and end up with the root “habl”. We then add the appropriate ending to this root (hablo, hablas, hablado, hablaba, hablé etc. etc.) Well, for the future simple tense we don’t do this; instead we add the endings on to the entire infinitive “hablar”. Now we’ve started with that verb, let’s get to it, this is what it looks like. Hablaré (I will speak) Hablarás (you will speak – familiar singular)
Hablará (He, she, or formal you, will speak) Hablaremos (We will speak) Hablaréis (You will speak – familar plural) Hablarán (They, or formal you plural will speak)
As I have already said, all three groups of verbs do the same thing, so “I will drink” is beberé; “he will write” – escribirá; “we will play” – jugaremos; “you (plu) will read” – leeréis; “they will live” – vivirán. Well, that’s all pretty straightforward. It might help you to remember the endings if you notice that they are very similar to the present tense of “haber” (he, has, ha, hemos, habéis, han). If that doesn’t help you, forget about it. There is small number of irregular verbs in this tense – here’s a list of the main ones. I’ve just put the first person singular form, but all the other forms follow on in the same way: Decir – diré; hacer – haré; poder – podré, poner – pondré; querer – querré; saber – sabré; salir – saldré; tener – tendré; valer – valdré; venir – vendré. Well, they’re not too bad, just a case of swallowing the medicine really. It could be a lot worse. And finally, when do we use this lovely new tense? Here’s the official explanation – “When predicting a certain future” (what future is certain,
you may well ask). “Llegarán mañana - They’ll arrive tomorrow”. We also use it for a couple of other fiddly bits, for example expressing amazement: “¡Será possible! - Can it be possible!” I’ve run out of space, but will come back to this tense briefly next week, before soldiering on to yet more ways to talk about the future. See you then.

Mind you later he got smart and on Christmas Eve he told the children that Santa was fed up with mince pies & sherry and now he wanted Pukka pies (Balti) & Jack Daniels. What other gems can we unearth? “If you fall out of that tree and break your leg – don’t come running to me” Good old mum, straight out of the Sybil Fawlty school of stating ‘The Bleeding Obvious.’ Or the teacher at Our Sacred Lady Of Dysfunctional Dunderheads enquiring “Do you want to be caned?” Umm! Let me think about that for a moment. I suppose some might find the prospect of being punished by a middle aged woman in a nun’s habit appealing. Something you’d pay good money for in later life. Proverbially speaking, apparently “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover” Yes you can, if it’s got a surgically enhanced bleach blonde bimbo on the cover it’s not the Salvation Army War Cry Almanac, unless of course Sister Barbie is sporting a tambourine in a strategically placed chaste manner during a recruitment drive. “Too many cooks spoil the broth” – no! - too many cooks appear on TV. Hippy hogwash from the Summer of Love 1967, “Make love – not war.” - half a century on, both would probably kill us chaps (well not you old bean – you’re still a stud muffin according to your myopic mirror). “The pen is mightier than the sword.” I think not - a decapitating scimitar in the hands of some ISIS nutbucket will cause considerably more grief than a fountain pen full of Quink. “ Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” Ascribed to Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu, but I prefer Lyndon .B. Johnson’s take on it dealing with FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover (who had a shed load of dirt on JFK that the Democrats wanted kicked into the long grass). “It’s probably better to have him inside the tent pi**ing out, than outside pi**ing in.” Hardly Churchillian, but succinct. Staying with Yank politics “Two wrongs don’t make a right” - with the Presidential election November 8th - got a feeling this could be a truism. Recognising the signs of abuse Most people have little idea what sexual abuse is about. It varies from rape to inappropriate touching, to leering or making unsavoury comments. Sexual abuse arises where a parent (or other adult) has sexual contact with a child, because the power is unequal. When a child experiences sexual abuse for the first time (it rarely happens just once), things go through their mind that many adults cannot understand. They may think that all parents have sex with their children and therefore nothing is unusual. They may feel that if they speak up, they will be labelled as “evil” and sent to prison. If a child considers telling someone, it may take ages to pluck up the courage to actually do so. Most children are afraid that adults will not believe them, and of course, many adults do not. Children try to find someone they can trust, and hope that the adult will protect them. If they tell a teacher, they may be afraid that they will be sent home with a letter from the school telling the parent what they have said. People who abuse children are quite accomplished in silencing children. They do so by threats, emotional blackmail or by suggesting the hopelessness of doing so. “If you tell your mother, the whole family will split up and it will be your fault.” How do children cry for help? There is no one way that they do so; cries can come in any form. Even continued silence may be seen as a cry for help. Most initial cries are small but grow in intensity until they are heard. Children cry out to people they feel can help. It may be direct,
such as to a teacher, or it may be indirect, to a friend or sibling, in the hope that they will tell someone. They will only confide if they feel safe; if not they may tell their dog, their doll or their diary. What can we learn from this? We can learn that any uncharacteristic behaviour can be a signal. When signals appear, we should ask a few questions and listen to what the child has to say. Children can assess when an adult is willing to listen. Perhaps you were the victim of sexual abuse when you were young. Maybe you are now grown up and feel that at last you can speak about what has happened to you. You may be looking for someone to tell. Luckily, there is a now a doctor, a nurse, or a therapist just around the corner who is ready to listen. Obviously, people should not become obsessed by looking for signs of sexual abuse. It would be good to feel, however, that children can go home after school and be safe. If you have been in any way affected by this article please contact the Family Medical Centre: 966 865 072

La Vila 61 Santboi Barcelona 7 by patricia thompson As the score shows, in boxing parlance this was a mismatch. If it was a fight the referee would have stopped the contest. A beautiful Sunday afternoon in front of a good crowd La Vila showed that last seasons form was no fluke. After just 2 mins Santboi were awarded a penalty try with La Vila not having had any possession. They took the 7 points and we thought we were in for a close match, until 4 minutes later La Vila scored the first of their 8 tries. Thereafter it was one way traffic. The ball handling and passing of La Vila was a delight to watch as were their scrums and line-outs. Because of the quality of the opposition it is difficult to put their performance into perspective however La Vila start the season in the same scoring mode as last. Luciano Martinez scored a great solo try from halfway and injury replacement Matias Lamboglia proved to be a very opportunistic player scoring 2 tries. As usual Matias Jara showed his goal kicking skill, only missing the posts just once. Special mention must be made of the referee who handled the game impeccably especially in the second half when Santboi showed their frustration resulting in a little fisticuffs, and one of their players being sin-binned. The ref controlled what could well have been an ugly situation. Mention must also be made of the vociferous support by a four year old toddler sitting behind me clutching his rugby ball and continually shouting the Spanish equivalent of ‘come on La Vila’. If Spain is to revere the oval ball as much as the round, this young man is where it starts and La Vila, through their rugby school, are doing their ‘bit’ for the sport. The next match is away to R.C Hospitalet in Catalunia.

TRANSPORTING SEVEN people in comfort can present a problem, unless of course you don’t mind Transit vans. Peugeot has a solution though in its 5008 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle). Unlike the earlier Peugeot 807 people carrier the 5008 is more compact, making it more enjoyable to drive but this does mean that if there are seven passengers there’s not a huge amount of room for luggage. Importantly for the driver it’s not too difficult to reverse or manoeuvre. This style of vehicle is quite van-like in terms of appearance but it is very much like a car to drive and driver appeal is one of the advantages of the Peugeot. The test model, a two-litre diesel Allure – top-of-the-range - is equipped with a six-speed automatic gearbox but it can also be driven like a manual. At low speeds, typically up hill, this gearbox is a little indecisive, not sure whether to go for third gear or second, which does make for the occasional uncomfortable jolt. It is quite frugal for a vehicle of its size, returning over 40mpg on average. I put it through its paces over a long weekend to Pembrokeshire where we experienced a variety of roads. On the motorway (the M4, over the Severn Bridge) it was very capable, happily cruising at 70mph, even though it was heavily laden with five passengers and luggage. Cruise control makes life so much easier on such travels and the electric child lock engaged by the click of a switch on the driver’s door is easy
to operate. The one-way streets, invariably up sharp inclines in this part of the world, certainly cause the tired motorist some confusion but thank goodness I’m driving the 5008 because the auto box makes light work of the hills. I’m not usually a fan of electronic handbrakes but the one fitted to this vehicle is quick and simple to engage and disengage. Inside, the Allure benefits from an enormous panoramic glass roof (with electric sliding cover), which makes the vehicle really light and airy as you can see in the video at testdrives.biz. The front passengers get captain style seats with pull down armrests that can be adjusted to the desired height. The driver’s seat is certainly comfortable, hardwearing and supportive although I do find that when my daughter’s baby seat is in place behind I cannot push my seat back quite as far as I might desire. There are all the gadgets the modern day motorist could dream of including sat nav, a useful head-up display showing the speed and ensuring the driver doesn’t take their eyes off the road. Air conditioning and a good quality sound system are all part of the package.
New price range: 22,223€ - 30,892€ Power: 163bhp 0-60mph: 10.2secs Top speed: 118mph Economy: 40mpg Watch the video at www.testdrives.biz

Macmillan coffee morning Back by CAROLINE TYSZKA
THE MACMILLAN UK coffee morning in Alfaz del Pi on September 30th received a big boost with Vince Tracy – radio presenter and musician – performing live and also acting as compere. The event, sponsored by RTN, is being organised by a group known as “Morning Miss-Chief - Ladies Coffee Morning” who meet every Monday at the L’Estacion Bar located at the tram station, the venue for the Macmillan event which starts at 1pm. Vince, who has interviewed many celebrities during his career - from Chubby Checker and Brenda Lee to Sir Henry Cooper and Sir Stirling Moss - is also a very talented performer. All proceeds will be sent to the Macmillan UK charity with the day promising something for everyone with stalls and competitions. Last year, the ladies raised over 2,700€. If any local businesses or individuals would like to donate raffle prizes, bake cakes or simply make a donation, they can contact the group via Facebook messenger, send a private message to Caroline Tyszka on Facebook, or email caroline.tyszka@gmail.com. Last year the ladies raised over 2,700 euros. This event is officially registered with Macmillan UK.

Hosted at the La Estación del Mar Bar in Alfaz del Pi, where the tram stops, organisers have planned several hours of live music including performances by Road Train and Blue Weiser. There will be three prizes this year: 1st prize, the Burt
