PETS IN Spain is looking for more people to go on their foster carer register - pet lovers who give homeless animals a temporary shelter until they find permanent homes. by Jack Troughton
The process is emotionally rewarding for the foster family and a valuable experience for the animals as they learn basic social skills through human interaction. The animal charity needs more people in the La Marina and surrounding areas willing to open up their homes to dogs and cats looking for a fresh start in life. Fostering often suits people who
School Enrolment Time
May is the month when schools in the region prepare for the intake of students for the following academic year which usually starts in the second week of September for Infant and Primary and a week later for ESO (secondary) students. The Valencian Government and Torrevieja Councillor Jos茅 Hurtado has asked the media to make sure the public are aware of the dates. He explained that the period to request places in Infant and Primary schools is from May 9th-19th, while for Secondary and Bachillerato it is May 23rd-June 2nd. The admissions calendar for Professional Training (Formaci贸n Profesional) and the Basic Qualification Training Programmes (Programas Formativos de Cualificaci贸n B谩sica) are expected to be published in June. The councillor advised the Town Hall website (www.torrevieja. es) has information about the 2016/2017 admissions procedure for pupils along with the facility to download application forms and complementary documents.
are unable to own their own pet either for financial or lifestyle reasons. The charity supplies all food and veterinary costs for the pet and fostering can be from a few nights to several months and it can transform a pets behaviour. The benefits for a dog or cat are obvious. The safety of a home, the warmth of a bed, the touch of a hand, the love of a human carer. The carers are highly valued members of the Pets in Spain volunteer group. And for them, there is the knowledge that
they have helped saved a life, and in doing so freed a space for another pet to be saved. It is a heart warming experience to watch a pet develop and grow in confidence, to learn to trust, to regain health and fitness, and to learn some of those essential skills of socialisation and training. Anyone wishing to become a animal foster carer can call the charity on 645 469 253 or visit website www. petsinspain.com or Facebook page Pets in Spain.

Welcome to
AND LAST year, the paper received its reward and was voted the third most popular expat newspaper in the world in The Expat Survey; taking second place in Spain in a poll of people around the world behind colleagues at The Olive Press. The overall winner was French media outfi t ‘The Connexion’. In early 2015, RTN went through a period of change after it was acquired by new owner Mia Media SL. A period of rationalisation followed with editions being merged, following feedback from readers they wanted to have a wider range of news. Managing Director Daniel Wilkinson immediately stressed his commitment to heading a family firm with a family-friendly paper by naming the parent company after his daughters. “Mia is my eldest daughter and the company name came from there. The company was always going to be an ‘SL’ and I have told my youngest daughter it stands for Siena Lily,” he said. Over the last six months Almeria has come under the microscope ahead of the new paper’s launch. Distribution, towns, and localities have been researched and potential clients and readers were approached. “We have done our homework ahead of the launch. We fi rmly believe we have a place amongst the other media companies in the area,” said Daniel.
“This has been a very exciting time for myself, my family – my wife Louise is sometimes roped in and gets involved - and my team at RTN. Everything is in place and we are raring to go.” Ian Tilley, Head of Distribution and Daniel’s father-in-law, is confident the move will be a success. “We will always be looking to expand our outlets along the Almeria coast and inland to make sure RTN is easily available to our readers.” However, despite heading for fresh pastures, RTN has not forgotten its roots. This year it sponsored the Homes Gardens and Lifestyle Show at the five-star Denia Marriott Hotel and constantly backs charity events along the coast. The list of ‘what’s on’ across the region appears to grow by the week and the team is kept busy all through the year taking pictures of adults, children and pets at play – happy pictures are highly prized. Serious issues are never side-stepped. Unfortunately, hard news is often seen as ‘bad news’ but in the 21st Century there is a mass of important issues aff ecting everyone’s life and readers need to be kept informed.
A word from the Ambassador
IT IS happy days for the ‘Our Local Ambassadors’ project after it won a big ‘thumbs up’ from expats looking to enjoy life to the full in Spain. British Ambassador Simon Manley, who helped launch the scheme, said: “We have had a very positive response to the launch of the ‘Our Local Ambassadors’ initiative, which aims to use the experiences of a group of British residents to help other expats to integrate better into Spain by learning from their stories. “We are looking forward to working with RTN, our media partner for this project, over the coming months.”

Happy pilgrims ORIHUELA is to be the starting point for the pilgrimage route to Murcia’s historic Caravaca de la Cruz, a popular route with hikers. by Rhiannan Bell The city’s Councillor for Tourism, Sofia Alvarez, announced an agreement has been signed with the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia (ITREM) to become the starting point of the ‘Camino de Levante’ so that “Orihuela will be united with the Caravaca through this renowned pilgrimage trek”. The tour will begin in the Oriolana district of Orihuela, passing through Murcia, and run along the River Segura up to Molina de Segura to follow the “Northwest Greenway” to Caracava de la Cruz. “We are convinced that this route will be successful and we will all be grouped together as a family of cultural and religious tourism,” said Ms Alvarez. “In this way, Orihuela adds to the range of religious and cultural treasures to visit, thus uniting history, beliefs and art.” The agreement includes that sign posting and promotion of the ‘Camino de Levante’ are drawn up and placed at strategic points within Orihuela so that it is fully incorporated in the project. And the Oriolana Tourism Office will provide promotional packs and information for the municipality. It is hoped local businesses will benefit from the route by food and accommodation to walkers, while Orihuela
will collaborate in staging events and activities during the celebration of the Jubilee Year of Caravaca de la Cruz in 2017.

Prostitution Gangs in Torrevieja Police swooped to arrest 30 people for sexually exploiting more than 50 women and girls in a sordid world of prostitution. by Rhiannan Bell The National Police detained two Nigerian gangs based in Torrevieja who were trafficking women, some of whom were underage girls. The gangs were well organised and controlled areas like cartels. The prices for sexual services were all coordinated to rid the area of any competition. Most of the profits were illegally sent to the gang leaders in Nigeria and the rest financed new operations to expand their illegal business. The officers also freed 18 women who were being exploited, as well as a pregnant woman on the Ceuta border and another victim in Guadalajara. The investigation began after a Nigerian woman in Málaga reported to the police that she had been captured in her home country and brought to Spain, where she was forced to work as a prostitute to pay off the debt for her travel costs. The victims had to work every day of the week from 7pm until dawn and could not go home until they were given

permission. They were also attacked and humiliated, and one of the pimps even threatened to kill one of them in front of the police. Some of the profits were sent to Nigeria from a Torrevieja shop that specialised in African products and police detected transfers worth more than a million euros. The second gang used the influence of a pastor from a Torrevieja church who not only knew the victims were being exploited but hid their documentation, took a share of the profits - and the women even had to pay him to be forgiven for working as prostitutes. The operation involved border police, units from Alicante, Málaga, Valencia, Cartagena, Torrejón de Ardoz and Alcalá de Henares, as well as Europol, who investigated the gang’s connections in Sweden, Finland, the UK, Italy and France.

Bushwacka Re-Opens... AFTER A closing party on Halloween of last year the building works began and were completed 5 months later with the bar reopening on 25th March and the kitchen reopening a few weeks later on 7th April. An obvious rebranding has taken place across the board with a new look venue, new management and staff team, new logo and a shift in image and style. The change in the physical appearance is vast and everything is now much more fresh, clean and modern. The big central bar has been ripped out and replaced with a 12m long bar running almost the length of the building. The lively coloured walls of previous years have been torn down and replaced with natural exposed brickwork. New brick flooring is in place and the colouring is more subtle, fresh and clean both inside and outside the premises. The layout is now much more open and compatible to dining with spacious booths, live sports with a new bank of big TVs behind the bar and live music with a brand new stage having been built. The new lighting in place is very eye catching. New leather seating adds comfort to the now much more stylish surroundings. The new kitchen team is already churning out a large and varied menu of home made food including Angus burgers, home made lasagna, cottage pie and our particular favourite the steak and guinness pie. Frozen chips are long gone with all dishes available with twice-fried, hand-cut, sea-salted chips. An extensive menu del dia is available all day & night (12 noon until 10pm) with one course well priced at €5.50, 2 courses €7.90 and 3 courses for under a tenner at €9.90. There is lots to choose from with the menu del dia mains selection stretching to 15 different dishes. Local feedback about the new food and menu is extremely positive already. The live music lineup planned for the year is outstanding with massive local favourites Dougie Munro, supergroup Kolted and brilliant tribute band Abba Elite already on the roster with much more planned throughout the summer. All entertainment info can be found at www.facebook.com/bushwacka The all new bar team are busy preparing the all new cocktail menu using only fresh fruits, designer glassware and premium spirits. With 6 draught beers and around 20 gins & whiskies available the drinks selection is impressive. The work isn’t finished yet as very soon a dedicated cocktail bar will be opening up on the terrace so that you can enjoy your favourite summer drink al fresco whilst listening to the live music. All in all a very impressive renovation and good to see such a grand investment in one of the area’s leading premises now that the area is slowly but surely moving out of recession.
If it’s been a while since you have paid a visit to Bushwacka, now may well be the time to do so. Get on down there and check it out....

Firefi ghters rescue bees by RHIANNAN BELL A FIRE crew from Torrevieja was called into action by the Department of Environment earlier this week to help with the safe removal of a swarm of bees from a residential street of Campoamor. Swarms usually form when a group of worker bees and drones from the hive, along with their queen, seek a new place to build their nest. They fl y in a dense cloud and although they do not normally cause harm to humans, the sight often results in
panic which the insects view as an attack. Often, they alight somewhere for the night or to rest. Collecting swarms safely is vital as bees are protected and have recently been found to be in decline. Firefi ghters are responsible to ensure the safe collection of the insects although they are usually aided by a professional beekeeper. The decline of honeybees is occurring mainly in Europe and the United States, can jeopardize the economy of large regions, as they act as principal pollinators in commercial crops. And the bees play a crucial role in terrestrial ecosystems and therefore conservation of these precious insects is seen as paramount.

Expats want their say EXPATS IN Spain are going on line to register for an EU referendum vote at a rate of more than 1,000 a day. by Jack Troughton The deadline to claim a postal vote in the 23rd June ballot is 16th May and over 80,000 people have already spent five minutes claiming a voice in the historic battle. The Foreign Office is backing an Electoral commission campaign to encourage British people living overseas to register to vote – unfortunately, those who left the UK over 15 years ago are currently barred by law from voting. In Spain, British Ambassador Simon Manley and consulate team have been busy encouraging people to register and clicks on www.gov.uk/register-to-vote have averaged at more than 1,000 per day since the launch of the campaign in February. Mr Manley, who was in Malaga on Friday, said the interest in voting was “very encouraging” as the message spread. “I am pleased that so many are already
preparing to exercise their democratic right. “Whether your view is that the UK should remain in or leave the EU, I urge all eligible expats to register to vote in this historic referendum “So make sure you can have your say. It is for the British people to decide whether they we’re stronger, safer, and better off as part of the European Union, or on our own.” Voters must have been on a UK electoral roll within the last 15 years and to register they will need their passport, national insurance number and a last UK postcode. Voting papers will be sent out on 23rd May – but people missing the deadline can still claim a proxy vote. To find out more facts about the ballot go to www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/eu-referendum and more about voting at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions/overseas-voters

Illegal booze sellers caught by Caroline Tyszka A CRIMINAL bootlegging network said to have defrauded the Treasury of millions of euros has been shut down. The Guardia Civil dismantled the gang selling alcoholic drinks without paying VAT under an operation named “WHITE GORPROS. The operation began following the officers investigating a group for drug trafficking, where information was discovered of a major tax fraud. During the investigation ten people were arrested and seven companies in the areas of Seville, Cordoba and Vigo were searched. Documents discovered indicated that the Treasury had been defrauded to an estimated 3,700,000 million euros. Customs Surveillance Officers and Financial Inspectors from the Tax Office worked with the Guardia Civil to unravel the complicated systems that had been used to commit the fraud. The companies involved were distributors of alcoholic beverages. They brought the goods from another EU country, such as the Netherlands and Portugal and placed the goods into a bonded warehouse. Clients would then purchase the goods but the companies did not pass on the VAT to the Treasury. The investigation is still ongoing with officers not ruling out further arrests in the coming weeks.
Bull Run protests
POLICE HAVE arrested four people following an attack on animal rights activists at a bull run in the Catalonia region. Two protesters were attempting to video a Bull Run festival in the town of Mas de Barberans, north eastern Spain, when a group of participants allegedly pounced on them

Aida Gascon, director for Animal Naturalis and her colleague Yasmina Moreno were attacked as they tried to film the bulls set loose with a ring of flaming balls of tar attached to their horns. A police spokesperson confirmed that three men and a woman had been detained on suspicion of assault and damaging property in an incident which was caught on La Sexta television, who were covering the event.

Glide for life supporting MABS NINE VENTUROUS locals are about to embark on a personal challenge to raise funds for MABS in honour of friend Cathy Humphreys who passed away earlier this year by Caroline Tyszka The paragliding challenge will take place on May 22nd at the Maryvilla Mountain in Calpe and was initiated by two friends buying Diane Buckle a “gliding experience” with Outbound Adventures. Diane, who works at the Vincents Corner chain in Benidorm, said: “My friends Helen Taylor and Lucy Young decided to buy me a special gift to make me feel alive and embrace life after a recent struggle with cancer. I decided to put the gift to good use and paraglide in loving memory of
dear Cathy who is missed every day.” Cathy, 59, died in January this year following a long battle with illness. Many will have known her as being the sub-editor at the Costa Blanca News where she had worked for over 25 years. And she was a huge supporter of the MABS cancer charity group so it seemed natural for Diane to ask for sponsors to help the worthwhile organisation. “I am amazed at how everyone has taken up the challenge, paying to do the glide to help support the charity and realising how much Cathy meant to me.” Collection boxes and sponsor forms can be found in The Triangle Pub, The Plaza, The White Horse and The Cheap
and Cheerful Bar, all in Benidorm’s plaza area. Diane said: “I don’t even like roller coasters but I know what a complete and utter world changing gut wrenching feeling a cancer diagnosis brings. “I’m doing this to honour my dear friend’s memory and for everyone who is going through it, and I guess for me facing fear head on and possibly ruining some underwear.” For further information you can call Diane on 680172635 or Helen Taylor on 685252207 and also the GlideforlifeVincentscorner Facebook page. If you are unable to sponsor the team in person you can go to www.mabscancersupport.org/#!donations/cr2u to make a donation.

Big brother is watching
6 - 12 may 2016
by Caroline Tyszka ALICANTE HAS applied for a grant of 4 million euros to fund cameras to watch the traffic in the city streets. Mayor Gabriel Echavarri has put forward the proposal which would see CCTV cameras installed at the entrances to the city and on the main streets with the ability to capture the licence plates of the estimated 150,000 vehicles that pass through each day. It is hoped that the information provided by the cameras will assist the authorities in improving traffic flows and spotting bottle necks. The grant would allow for approximately 110 cameras to be placed in key areas with an opportunity for other organisations to share the information. Echavarri said: “This is a pioneering project that would make Alicante the city of European reference for traffic management, we will be able to control traffic flow and also check for those vehicles that do not have insurance or an ITV.”
Battle for votes
Spain are heading to the polls on June 26th following politicians’ inability to form a government, the Socialist Party (PSOE) and Podemos have already begun the battle for the left-wing vote. Socialist leader Pedro Sánchez and Podemos chief Pablo Iglesias now see each other as rivals after failing to agree on a power-sharing deal following the elections on December 20th, although the anti-austerity leader has focused on acting prime minister Mariano Rajoy, of the Popular Party (PP), as his true rival. Sánchez will now depict the emerging party in the image of “the old Communist left” who were unable to produce either progress or welfare. PSOE hold their first meeting of the election committee at party headquarters in Madrid where they will set out the guidelines for the campaign ahead. The battle for the left-wing vote will pit the Socialists against Podemos, which is attempting to join up with the United Left. On Wednesday Pablo Iglesias appeared to presume that his party would win over PSOE in the elections even offering the deputy position to Sánchez in any possible Podemos-led government. “The PSOE would be legitimized to demand the vicepresidency,” said Iglesias. “To us, the PSOE has to be an ally, we want to govern with them.” Only 300,000 votes separated PSOE from Podemos in December. The Socialists will now concentrate on defense of social democracy and attack “the communists.” Podemos wants to turn into the archaic Communist left obsessed with overtaking the PSOE, even if it means the expense of letting the right keep ruling Spain. Meanwhile, Iglesias is aiming high. “For us, beating the PP and winning the elections would be a success. Not for us, but for the country. That is why it’s important to try to agree among ourselves,” he said.

Murder story latest
Long wait over
THE ROUNDABOUT at the Plaza de la Paz in Redován, near Orihuela, opened this week helping to alleviate noise pollution considerably by reducing the revving of cars to avoid the previous red lights on the junction. by Rhiannan Bell Speed has also been curbed with the new road structure. Redován residents have waited 28 years for the installation of the roundabout on the CV-900 which has on average 5,000 vehicles passing through it daily. It is hoped accidents, queues and dangerous crossing points for pedestrians are a thing of the past. The project emerged in 1988 but failed to come to fruition for several years despite continued requests to the Ministry of
Infrastructure. The City Council finally obtained the go-ahead for the work after first enduring lengthy legal processes to expropriate land from the disco Thamesis to enable the full plans to materialise. “We had to go to many meetings in Alicante and Valencia, in addition to the extensive process of expropriation,” recalled the mayor, Emilio Fernandez. He added: “The garden area has been kept on the outside of a circular cross which minimizes the impact of this plaza, which means that an aesthetic improvement is achieved to one of the main entrances to the town.” There are plans to install a replica of
the Iberian Trifo that was found in the local mountains in the centre of the plaza. The Trifo can be seen in the National Museum of Archaeology. The Director General of Public Works, Transport and Mobility, Carlos Domingo Soler said: “The roundabout reduces traffic, noise and increases safety, which is a priority for the Valencian government.” In addition, he stressed that the road improvements also benefited “people with reduced mobility by enabling them to cross the road without the hindrance of kerbs. The project also magnifies an improvement to the urban environment.”

Joint enterprise by Rhiannan Bell FOUR COASTAL town halls have signed up to an agreement to contribute to a joint venture for future social economic development.
Torrevieja, Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada and Guardamar are involved in the project with the Valencian Employment and Training Service (SERVEF). It is hoped the move will help qualify the local authorities to qualify for new subsidies involving business and social sectors of the communities. Pilar de la Horadada Councillor Pilar Maria Samper made the announcement at a conference in Torrevieja. She emphasised all four partners were working together on the project. And she said: “We are convinced it will benefit all the citizens of the four municipalities. We want to work on both the assets and deficiencies we have in our region.” Torrevieja Councillor Victor Fernandez believed the pact would be “one of the most effective tools of the new way of doing local politics”. Areas the town halls intend to pursue are protection and management of historical and environmental heritage, initiatives to develop urban environments, promoting quality outof-season tourism, and developing natural tourism. It is also hoped to develop a brand that unites the interests of the four municipalities in this sector.

Body donation confusion THE MIGUEL Hernandez University in Elche has announced that it will now charge for people to donate their bodies to science. by Caroline Tyszka The new procedure detailed in correspondence to many of the regions funeral companies’ state that there will now be €1,000 charge for transportation of the bodies to the facility. The letter reads: “Funeral companies collaborating with the Miguel Hernandez University, responsible for the collection and transportation of bodies donated to the Faculty of Medicine will need to make the payment, which covers transport from anywhere in the Alicante region. Robert Kirkhope from Free Lunch Spain, who advise people on various issues said, “It seems that the universities are moving their goalposts by now asking for families to pay for donating bodies to science. There is a lot of confusion regarding this as when people apply to give their body to science they are sent back a yellow slip which they think
means they have been accepted. Unfortunately this is merely confirmation that their application has been received.” It seems that many donors assume that they have been accepted only to find that at the point of death their body is rejected with it being unclear if the €1,000 charge is taken prior to the refusal. RTN spoke with Prof.Dr. D. Antonio F. Compañ, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine who said that “Miguel Hernandez University of Elche receives the body donation at the end of the useful period for teaching and research, the University manages the burial or the cremation of the human remains, and bears all the expenses.” He went on to say: “The cost of transporting the body donation to the Faculty of Medicine is financed by the donor relatives and we are now negotiating agreements with different undertakers to get the best prices for the collection

and transfer of deceased.” Robert is more than happy to help anyone who has questions about this new fee and/or if you think you have been accepted by the university but need clarification. He can be contacted either by email freelunchspain@gmail.com or you can call him on 685 733 278.
On Saturday, May 7th the ADIS Rock Festival will be held in the playground of the Miguel Hernández school in Orihuela tomorrow (7th May). The event was announced by Councillor Mar Ezcurra, Josefina Valero, the president of the Vega Baja Disabled Association (ADIS) and the president of their volunteers group, José Joaquín San Martín. “We will be able to enjoy about six hours of music all for a good cause,” assured Ms Ezcurra. The bands taking part will be: Mafalda, El Kamión de la Basura, Politikamente Inkorrekto, Línea 36, Mez-k and Laberinto Sin Salida. The music fest will start at 7:30pm and tickets cost €5 all proceeds of which will go to ADIS. Tickets can be purchased from ADIS direct using the email adisrockvb@gmail.com or from the Gato Negro cafeteria. Josefina Valero thanked the Town Hall for their help with the organisation and assured that with the money from the tickets “we will help disabled children and young people to get the services they need so much”.

Tortoise population increases by Rhiannan Bell THE ANNUAL study of the tortoise population across Almería and Murcia shows it to be in good health with numbers increasing. The study called ‘Proyecto Testudo’ is directed by Elche University and 12 known breeding areas across the region are monitored. Volunteers spend an afternoon combing the designated zones for the animals and
once located, the specimens are examined by biologists before being returned to their habitat. The 2016 census reported that the tortoise appears to be in excellent health with a slight increase in population compared to last year. In particular, the spur-thighed tortoise, found in abundance in the Sierra Cabrera just above the town of Turre, was found to have more than doubled its numbers. The report added that this was probably due to a recent ban on keeping them as pets.
Fires rage
THOUSANDS OF people are battling deadly forest fires in Indian which have gone largely unnoticed by the world’s media. The northern Himalayan state of Uttarakhand has been engulfed in flames for nearly a month but over last weekend alone 427 additional fires broke out and at least six people have now been reported as dead. More than 4,700 acres of forest land has been destroyed with 1,218 fires recorded in the last month as the ongoing drought in the country fuels further fires. No sooner have firefighters extinguished one fire then another breaks out. Indian air force helicopters have been helping to douse the flames as villagers struggle with air quality and visibility with many trying to stay in their homes. The fires come as India suffers one of its worst droughts in years. The government says 330 million are now affected by water shortages.
Crime wave
POLICE BELIVE they have ended a one-man crime wave after arresting a man suspected of committing more than 40 burglaries in and around Elche. The Guardia Civil has arrested the 48-year-old man alleged to have carried out the illicit campaign – it alleged on occasion he used violence on homeowners and on one incident attacked an elderly man to force him to give him money. The arrest occurred just a short while after a victim was robbed in his house but managed to raise the alarm. The suspect was seen riding a bicycle through the rural roads in Elche close to the address - he attempted to flee officers but was caught. And once detained, the suspect was found to be carrying various items including a music stereo, a camera and a wad of counterfeit 50 euro notes. One of the householders told officers he had photocopied 50€ banknotes and had left the fakes as decoys.

Combating caterpillar plague by Rhiannan Bell COUNCIL WORKERS were in the front line as they treated more than 2,600 pine trees in the fight back against the processionary caterpillar – a prevalent problem this year. The fumigation of the trees in Murcia City and its suburbs took place during the months of October and November and resulted in a 90% extermination success rate. But some of the nests survived and these are being removed manually using a cherry picker for the highest branches. The council has warned if people encounter the pests, they should not be stepped on or touched under any circumstances because their bodies are covered in more than half a million tiny hairs and these cause acute irritation to the skin and can cause respiratory problems. The processionary caterpillar is the most serious threat in pine forests and the local authority has thirty gardeners who monitor and inspect the trees to control the presence of this insect. If touched the caterpillars can cause severe discomfort to humans and can be fatal to pets. If the caterpillar is stressed or threatened it can eject its hairs which act a little like harpoons and can penetrate or irritate any exposed skin. Dogs are particularly susceptible as they will pick up the hairs on their paws and then lick them as they start to itch. This then leads to the hairs being transferred on to the animal’s
tongue and can result in itching, swelling, vomiting and even death. The insects are easy to recognise by their distinctive orange-brown colour and blue bands. The nests can be also be spotted quite easily. They look like bags of cotton wool hanging from the tips of branches. The nests vary in size but can be as large as a football and can contain hundreds of caterpillars.
Survey reveals Murcia’s slums
A new Murcia survey reveals 600 people live in slums and substandard housing or are homeless. A study conducted by the Social Exclusion Observatory, with the help of NGOs and Murcia City Council has advised better coordination should be made to improve existing aid within the city. Seventy-two volunteers took to the streets with a mission: to make a study of ‘homelessness’ in Murcia; including the homeless or excluded residents. Taking part were students, Murcia City Council technicians and thirteen helpers from NGOs and associates of Jesus Abandonado, a soup kitchen in Murcia.. It had three main objectives: to perform a head-count, to produce a survey to determine the socio-demographic of those in situations of extreme poverty and to gather 20 personal life histories. The results of this study, which have yielded comprehensive information on the worst of social exclusion, have been published and presented by 30 participants of the project. The director of the Observatory of Social Exclusion, Manuel Hernandez Pedroza, who was the coordinator of this project, said that the findings must be seized “to give a comprehensive approach to the serious structural problems” of society.

May fair fun at the circus by Jack Troughton JALON VALLEY HELP’s “flagship” annual fund raiser, the May Fayre, takes place on Sunday 15th May between 10am and 2pm. The colourful and fun family event is held on the ‘rastro’ car park in Jalon – which has scooped around 5,000€ for the charity over each of the last three years. And the May Fayre grows every year. There is expected to be more than 100 stalls selling such things as crafts, bric-abrac, clothes, accessories, plants and gifts. No one will be hungry as there will also be table laden with goodies to eat and drink and there is always the opportunity to enjoy entertainment or join in a variety of games, including a raffle and tombola. If there are any stallholders would still like to book a pitch please email: jvhevents@hotmail.com.

Wildfire forces mass evacuation A WILDFIRE in Alberta, Canada saw 80,000 residents evacuated from the town of Fort McMurray this week. The Canadian oil sands town was almost surrounded by the blaze as residents took to any transport they could find to escape the blaze. The northern route out of the city was closed off as it was too dangerous to pass so the entire population were forced to head south as one resident said : “Flames were jumping over the road.” The chaos was the result of abnormally warm weather and dry conditions that had combined to make Alberta’s boreal forest a “tinder box,” it was reported. While the fire appeared manageable over the weekend, it grew into an inferno on Tuesday, buoyed by strong winds and dissolving into showers of ash. Fort McMurray Fire Chief Darby Allen said that Tuesday was “the worst day of my career, “It’s a nasty, ugly fire and it hasn’t shown any forgiveness.”

Kids point the way
QUICK-THINKING YOUNGSTERS helped corner suspected bandits by forming a human arrow to point a police chopper to the fugitives. The fugitives were later arrested on suspicion of burglary – the helicopter was scrambled after a call by Surrey Police following reports of intruders at a disused building. And a video of the action on the ground, a real life adventure story, has just been released by the National Police Air Service. A group of 30 children and adults had been taking part in an Easter egg hunt at Capel, when they became aware of the aircraft circling overhead and saw the two suspects dive for cover. The “intrepid” group quickly realised they were watching a pursuit and the children formed an arrow pointing to the men’s hiding place – information relayed to officers on the ground and leading to the pair’s arrest. Air Service Sergeant Paul Sochon later said: “I’m sure the last thing a group of daring Capel residents expected when they set out was to abandon their Easter egg hunt to assist us in a police search, but the initiative they demonstrated proved invaluable.”The swift action taken by the group of parents and their children was the sort of thing you would usually associate with an Enid Blyton adventure, but their ingenuity proved a great help for our crews.” The helicopter landed nearby so the crew could thank the children – and were even able to share some chocolate. “It was an added bonus after a busy shift.”

Whale of a time beside the seaside
RIGHT, COFFIN dodgers gather around ‘cos I need your razor sharp recall. Does anyone remember a 70 ton dead whale named Jonah being put on display in UK seaside resorts in the 50’s? I do, but few believe me, which is acceptable as i went to many 60’s groovy gigs at Woebegone Worthing’s Pier Pavilion and was subjected to second hand smoke of the Moroccan variety. While we’re at it Hawkwind & Deep Purple were the reason I got the nickname – Buggerlugs – thanks to the sound barrier blasting bedlam of Lemmy & Co; thus the buggeration of my lugs. Deaf as a tree stump. We’re in a compensation obsessed society & I want some. Sorry got sidetracked, back to the whale. It was carted around on a whacking great lorry & people paid to gawp and smell this behemoth and boy did it pong. That’s why I’m sure it’s not my failing faculties playing pranks – the memory of that stink (almost as bad as the the Hillsborough cover up) has never left me. However to counter balance the rotting denizen of the deep on our beach - we had the end off the pier variety shows during the 50’s – with comedians, magicians, dancers, jugglers, singers and on one occasion Brian Rix in a knockabout sketch. Many years later around the mid 90’s, I interviewed him and didn’t quite know how to address him as he had just been made a Life Peer. Should it be - working down the pre-eminent pecking order- Lord/Sir/Mr/Brian/Me Old Mucker-“None of those” said the great man loftily “It’s Baron Rix”. Now, with the greatest respect, this is a fellow who made a living in his Whitehall Farce heyday, dressed as a Vicar, chasing French maids with his cassock akimbo. I’m afraid my inner plebeian reared it’s ugly serf like head – I just couldn’t bring myself to address him in a Baronial manner. What I didn’t realise at the time (my inept research) he campaigned tirelessly
for various disability causes and that’s why he was so honoured. Tugging my forelock cravenly, I salute you BARON RIX OF WHITEHALL & HORNSEA! Just a thought your Lordship, could you do a bit of campaigning to get me some compo from the remnants of Hawkwind? I’ll see you right Guv, although I won’t be able to hear you right Guv. God Bless – Your Humble Servant – Christopher Buggerlugs.

Selling your home in Spain and returning to your country? Capital Gain Tax DEAR LAWYER, For reasons of age, my husband and I are going back to the United Kingdom, after living in Spain as tax residents for the last 15 years. We want to go back and sell our house in Spain. We have received conflicting advice on whether or not to sell the property before we leave Spain. Could you please inform us about what is the best thing to do? Thank you very much for your help. Dear reader, thank you for your enquiry. Although each case is different and we cannot advise you without studying the case, it is interesting to note: If you are going to reinvest in another main home. The rules of income tax for tax residents in Spain specify that profits from the sale of the habitual residence are excluded from capital gains tax, provided that the proceeds are reinvested in the acquisition of another habitual residence. Fortunately, this exemption is now also recognized for non-tax residents in Spain. Recently the Law on Income Tax for Non Residents was amended, adding the additional 7th provision, stating that tax residents in a Member State of the European Union who sell the property that has been their main residence in Spain, will be exempt from capital gains tax, if they reinvest the proceeds in another residence, even if it is not in Spain. Therefore, in principle, you could return to your country, and before the time fixed by the law, sell your residence in Spain, reinvest in another residence, and therefor not have to pay Capital Gains Tax. If you are not going to reinvest and you are over 65 years old. More doubts exist if you are older than 65 years and not going to reinvest the money. If this is the case, the Law 35/2006 of Income Tax of Individuals, applicable to tax residents in Spain, says that the profits resulting from the sale of the principal residence* of a person over 65 would be exempt from capital gains tax, without the need to reinvest etc. (*the main residence at time of sale or for the two years preceding the sale) Unfortunately, non-residents tax rules have not included this exemption for people over 65 years old. Non-tax residents in Spain, even if they are resident in the European Union, who sell their main residence located in Spain, would still have to pay Capital Gains if they didn’t reinvest. We believe this is an error of the legislator and a clear discrimination. Therefore, given the above, if this is your case and you are over 65 years old, it would be advisable to sell the property while you are still tax resident in Spain, to benefit from the exemption. If you want to buy or sell in Spain, please contact us and we will help you.

Remember the old adage, ‘don’t put all your eggs in one basket’? Many investors have been guilty of casting their nets too close to home when it comes to getting a good return on their investments. Despite the low-growth world, many companies are still able to offer their shareholders positive ‘guidance’ on future earnings – via dividends. So it has become very popular to invest a large proportion or all of your money in UK and large multinational companies that are offering good dividends, but sometimes you can get your figures burnt. Don’t forget that no matter how attractive the dividend appears if the company gets into trouble and its share price dives the profits you make via the dividends are effectively wiped out if you need to cash your holdings in as you will have lost a significant amount of money through the drop in value of your shares An current example is HSBC , which could be forced to cut its dividend after posting a dramatic fall in profits. The bank saw its quarterly profit plunge 14 per cent to £4.2billion due to market turmoil and a global slowdown. And revenues fell £627million to £10.2billion compared to the same period a year earlier. Analysts singled out dwindling earnings from the bank’s loan book as a particular cause for concern. The bank paid a 2015 dividend of 35p per share, or 6.5 per cent of its share price. Hargreaves Lansdown analyst Laith Khalaf said: “The market is sceptical the dividend can be maintained. Investors are clearly concerned on this front”. This caps off a bleak reporting season for British banks. Royal Bank of Scotland made a £1bn loss, while profits at Barclays, Lloyds and Standard Chartered were all down from a year earlier. Three European banks also reported quarterly results yesterday. Profits at Swiss lender UBS dropped 64 per cent to £509.3million, and at Germany’s Commerzbank they more than halved to £216million. Only French bank BNP Paribas posted a profit increase, up £100million to £2.1billion. So the key to managing your investment risk is never put all your eggs in one basket, make sure that your portfolio in diversified and review your portfolio at least every 6 months. Vegas at the Palace
THE LEGENDARY Mr Jonny Vegas has returned to Benidorm to film in series 9 of the programme by the same name but also to host and compere a “comedy heroes” show at Benidorm Palace on 22nd May. by Caroline Tyszka RTN were invited to spend some time with Jonny Vegas, real name Michael Pennington, and find out a little bit more about the comedian, his family life and his career. RTN: Welcome back to Benidorm and great to hear that you are doing another show at the Benidorm Palace where you last performed in 2009. VEGAS: Yes, it’s great to be back in Benidorm both the town and the programme, and hopefully viewers will be pleased to see that the “Oracle” continues. I’m really looking forward to the show at the Palace as last time I performed there I hadn’t really done much stand-up comedy before in preparation. This time it feels different as I’m not going in cold having done quite a bit with live audiences recently, also as I’m hosting the event with three great acts: Seann Walsh; Seymour Mace and Paul McCaffrey it should be a right crack! We thought it would be great to bring to the town and the expats some amazing stand up artists, although there are some brilliant ones also here in Benidorm, but this is a chance for them to see some of the UK comedy circuit stars here in their own town. They know me though, although I am compering chances are they will waiting on the side like those ski jumpers ready to push off ….. Ready – no hold back – ready – no hold back. RTN: How do you cope with being swamped by the public when you are out? VEGAS: You can never forget who put you where you are, yes sometimes I have a lot of lines to learn or have been on set for several hours but whenever there is time it’s nice to meet those who have supported you. Sometimes if we are doing a pool scene and I know I am in the background I will just pop over and say hi to the many who have stood for ages just to get a picture. You can’t treat people with distain just because they have supported you, although no one ever ran up to my dad and said wow what a fantastic wardrobe you’ve just built! But being on television people do give you that instant appreciation when they see you. RTN: How is family life going, with two sons one twelve and the other ten months, it must be challenging and has it mellowed your comedy style? VEGAS: I am a bit more guarded now, I find it really odd that people want to take pictures of my family without asking, it’s like, if you had come over and asked then maybe, but do any of us just want a picture of our kids taken without knowing where it’s going? It’s important to give them as normal a life as possible although recently my eldest came to an event with me and normally very grounded he wanted to get to the front so said “my dad’s Jonny Vegas” – when I heard that!!! Let’s just say I reminded him that his dad was being Michael Pennington, not Jonny Vegas.
As far as having kids, it’s funny, I used to be so critical of comics who’s material related to their children and being a dad etc and when they got up for awards they would thank their wife, kids and so on. I was at a ceremony once and went to collect my award and basically said “well up to now my sons been a financial dreg and has contributed nothing whatsoever to what I do for a living, and until he starts paying his way I’ve earnt this all by myself.” People in the room kind of had that – well there was no need for that – face on. RTN: We have to ask, how do you cope with people asking where’s the monkey? VEGAS: Its weird, I get blokes in the supermarket popping their head around the isle and going oy Vegas, where’s your monkey? And then suddenly disappearing and giggling like school boys and it’s like come on, you’re 50. People seem not to have noticed that the monkey is going it alone now. RTN: Your book Becoming Jonny Vegas, was that hard to write, with the highs and lows of everything? VEGAS: It was the best and worst creative experience I have ever had, I had tried to get other people to write it cos I was really struggling and didn’t think I had the tools in the box to get it out there, so two brilliant writers came and worked with me on it but it wasn’t me, it read more like a “this is your life” which wasn’t what I wanted. It turned out to be a lot more personal for me than I thought it would be, It made me look back and think where did Jonny Vegas start and I realised that this person in me had been knocking around for a lot longer than I had realised. The fracture point seemed to be when I was at secondary school, and I started to store material but had no ambition of being the class joker or a stand-up comedian at that point and because of a school that I went to it seemed I could only challenge things in my head. RTN: It has been suggested that if there was a series 10, a reunion of as many cast members as possible would be great for the viewers, what do you think? VEGAS: Wow that would be fabulous, it’s funny how personally people take the show and when certain cast members leave, bearing in mind it has been three months a year of their life filming Benidorm, for example the Garvey family, they find it hard to adjust to new characters. When I first started filming it I was single and life was different but now if I am away I miss making my sons packed lunches and
just being there with my family. It was a pleasure to interview Jonny Vegas, a nice warm and sincere person, we spent the next couple of hours discussing Lego – the movie – and to glue or not to glue (you have to love Lego to understand this) the Grimsby film in which he starred with Sacha Baron Cohen – anecdotes and funny things that happened - as well as him allowing what seemed like 100 selfies with fans to be taken before the afternoon came to an end and he was still smiling. The show on the 22nd May at the Benidorm Palace is one of two, the second date has yet to be finalised but it is likely it will be in June. Tickets cost 25 euros and the doors open at 7 pm for the show starting at 8.30 pm. Tickets can be purchased either at the Benidorm Palace box office or online at www.benidormpalace.com or by calling 965 85 16 60. The final word goes to Jonny who hopes as many people as possible can make the show and see some of his comedy heroes.

Combating rural peace breakers in the garden
FOR GARDENERS living in wild rural places their peace is being broken not only by gangs of feral dogs but by feral pigs set loose by people who found the idea of a tame pig as a pet not such a good idea. The pigs may be tamed wild boar piglets that were not so tame when a year old, Vietamese pigs which might have had a litter crossed with a wild boar, a domestic white pig again possibly crossed with a Vietnamese pig. With a dry winter they have been arriving in unfenced properties looking for water food or company, sometimes joining in the play of local dogs. All create problems for gardens as they will dig in moist soil for moisture and
interesting edibles and drink water from ponds or swimming pools. Vulnerable plants and produce include recently planted annuals perennials or shrubs, flower bulbs and corms, ripe grapes off vines, seed potatoes or final potato crops, Jerusalem artichoke corms, ripening peanuts, broad beans and radishes. Sometimes just one short visit is experienced but if a garden or allotment is found to be a good regular source of food repeat visits can become a disaster. So what can be done about such visitors? Encourage known pet pig owners to not let unwanted ones lose in the local countryside. Set up floodlights turned on by heat detectors on the edge of properties to scare away potential intruders. Fence all your land or the most vulnerable areas. Hang bags of hair from a local hairdresser or home hair cutting on posts around your land soaked fortnightly or after heavy rains with human urine. If you don’t like the idea of fencing the flower garden: - Plant deep rooted plants. - Surround recently planted shrubs with slabs of rock or concrete, which can be covered with earth, to deter pig diggings. - Surround shrubs with 10 to 15 centimetres of stone chippings as a deterrent to digging. - Fence off new flower beds or shrubberies until they have deep established roots system. - Place urine hair deterrents alongside plants or fertilize plants Victorian style every few days with diluted night waters. You could also fill large flower pots placed by plants with compost and soak this with urine. - Build a shallow pond for water and wallowing on the edge of your property. - Fence off grape vines and vegetable plots. - Grow vegetables in raised beds. - Leave a dog out at night. Naturally rural dwellers might also be visited by a herd of wild boar on the edge of established hunting areas. This type of problem will be more difficult to stop so it might be wise to tip off the local hunting club.

I can not open documents
Dear Aunty Virus Since getting Windows 10 I find I can’t open pdf documents. I couldn’t open or print my Sabadell tax document query and a message came up to say my system is more advance than theirs. I also can’t open my pdf Agamed online invoice and assume the same will happen with the Iberdrola one when it comes. I have Adblok plus. Any solution or do I wait for them to catch up? Regards, Jenny Reply: This could be because you do not have a PDF reader installed, or selected. Changing the Default PDF Viewer in Windows 10 1. Click on Start Menu > Settings > System > Default Apps 2. Scroll down and select ‘Choose default Apps by file type‘ 3. Scroll down and look for .pdf on the left side, click on ‘Microsoft Edge‘ to select, once ‘Choose an app’ popup opens, select the application you want to set as default to open PDF file type, done. Of course you have to download Adobe Acrobat reader first (https://acrobat.adobe.com/be/en/ acrobat/pdf-reader.html ) If you already have Adobe reader already installed, can you open other PDF documents using it? If not then you may have to uninstall and reinstall Adobe reader? Yes it may be your adblock is stopping it from opening. Also, should be possible to download the PDF file, and opening “outside” of the email or website.
Contacts
Hope you can help, how do I enter new and delete old e-mail addresses from my contacts list, on a hudl 2 tablet. Regards, Bill Reply: I think your tablet is an android tablet. So you should have an app called “Contacts”, or “People”. Within this app you can add or delete contacts. To add contacts, press the “+” button. To delete contact, long press the contact you want to delete, and the options menu will appear, allowing you to edit or delete that contact. Response: Many thanks for the info, downloaded contacts and all is OK, thanks again.

Messy neighbours OUR NEW neighbours are treating the front garden as a junk yard. It’s now so bad, that we have seen rats wandering about. Our children can’t play out, and are scared to walk passed their property. We have said something to them, but have been told that the husband has to keep these items for his building business. When we said we had seen rats, they got all defensive and said we were lying, and to mind our own business. We asked them if we could re-build the party wall, which we think is our responsibility, and they became quite hostile. We can’t even consider moving, because no one will want to buy our place. The fact that you have seen rats, suggests a health hazard. I would go along to your local Town Hall to firstly confirm who is respon-
sible for the party wall, and to see if there is anything that they can do to help with the problem of the junk.

I don’t want the responsibility MY YOUNGER brother was born with mental difficulties. He has been cared for by my parents, who refused any social services help, not even day centres or respite for them. I am now in my 40s and married. My parents seem to have assumed that I will take my brother in, when they are no longer around. I feel very resentful about this. I love my brother - all their money and energy went on him understandably, but I felt sidelined and as though my needs did not count. I had to shelve my dreams of going to University. I understand how you feel, you want to be his brother, not his carer. And you have your own family to consider. He of course would have benefited greatly from professional services all these years. Please talk to your parents about getting him some social help now, and let them know that you cannot provide him with a home. Don’t feel guilty about providing good social care and accommodation for your brother when the time comes. In the right environment the afflicted can flourish, and you can visit regularly.

Venus sends out mixed messages to you this week with a triple set of actions with Neptune, Jupiter and Saturn causing you confusion. Above all you have to put your own self love back on the menu to take advantage of this situation; rather Email your letters to me at: kennycorris@roundtownnews.com than to send out mixed messages that are opened to be misconstrued as they fall on deaf ears again.
Venus, planetary leader of your opposing sign of Libra conjuncts with Saturn midweek bringing things very nicely to a head. With the indecisive energies of late, progress in an impending matter has been slow and without the hint of the good result now needed all around. With expectations at the lowest ebb a breakthrough at last comes your way. Venus trines with Jupiter and it would seem that things are going your way at long last. The uphill and tedious way you have had to treat a recent event only goes to show that you haven’t been able to be yourself for some time. If others do not like your freedom of expression it is because they fear the truth and they do not have your interest at heart
Diary
Jupiter trines with Venus and heralds a time in which you can work towards the simplicity and transparency you currently seek. Venus sends love in absolute to cushion any blows, whilst things are always better when your trusty leader Jupiter is close to you in his constant Cosmic journey. Be sure that it is all out there for you, and that you deserve it.

With Uranus in cahoots, looking to your opposing sign of Leo brings the midweek entry of the Sun into Mercury. There is a message that you would dearly love to send right now; the fact that you don’t is closely connected to your pride, and the delayed actions of others who really do seem to be acting as if they have somewhat lost the plot!
If It’s Your Birthday This Week
Pluto, the better half of your dual planetary leaders responds to the rays of the all illuminating Sun at the beginning of a challenging but effective week. It would seem you do not have the backing of those you feel you need on board to assist you right now. Taking charge of procedure right now starts you seeing what is really there on the menu.
Happy days as the Sun in all aspects conjuncts with your planetary leader Mercury. It would appear that you have been waiting for a sign that takes you forward, and this week you are able to bask in the illuminating rays of the Sun in all her glory. Have the courage of your convictions and know that good energies abound and they are yours, for the taking! Governed always by the transits of the phases of the Moon, it is love that enters into your life right now, and it’s about time too! Venus sextiles a strongly defensive Neptune that bodes your happiness and shows you that the water has passed by you and under the bridge. Only doubt can make you change your mind so eliminate fear and move on.
Saturn conjuncts with Venus heralding the end of any recent hostilities and the rebirth of better times ahead. You have taken responsibilities because someone had to, but you have encountered nothing that borders on the respect you deserve for stepping in when you did. Now comes a time when you can look back and see you did what you had to.
As a Virgo you have trained yourself to work around routines, deadlines and schedules; however what is needed right now is to look within at the energies that you store inside. The planetary leader of your opposing sign of Pisces sextiles Venus midweek and this brings a true connection with the sheer magic available if you so desire it to be.
Neptune in sextile with Venus gives you the boost needed to get something close to your heart back on track. It is not your fault if others cannot or will not commit, but you are full of hope and good intention, and it would be such a shame if you were stopped in following your gut feelings. A project needs your tender love and care, if it is to carry on.
Establishing your own creativity will put you back in the spotlight, and it is where you belong right now as emotion rides high and options become more viable than ever. The Leo heart is the very essence of your being, and an opportunity to express yourself is not something that you should take very lightly. The Sun trines Pluto in accordance.
Strong energies and portents are the way ahead right now. Look within at the inner you and release the psychic energies that are clearly waiting for your grace, your permission and your positive interaction.

How to negotiate roundabouts IF YOU are unsure about the correct way to negotiate roundabouts, here are some simple rules to help you enter and exit roundabouts safely and in the right lane. APPROACHING ROUNDABOUTS It’s important to remember to give way to traffic already on the roundabout. If the roundabout is outside urban areas of towns or cities, keep right. If the roundabout is in a built-up area inside a town or city and the lanes are clearly marked, you should use the lane that best corresponds to the exit you need to take. LEAVING ROUNDABOUTS This causes the most confusion amongst drivers. Which lane to choose? Why do I get beeped at if I’m in the right lane? Drivers must exit roundabouts from the right hand lane, because the only way to leave the roundabout is by turning right. This doesn’t mean we always have to enter the roundabout from the right hand lane. It depends on the exit we need to take. However this simple rule, in practice, can be more complex. Let us see some examples. 1st EXIT RIGHT Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate and exit roundabout. CONTINUING STRAIGHT ON (e.g. 2nd EXIT STRAIGHT AHEAD) Enter roundabout keeping to right hand side lane. Stay in lane until exit is reached. Indicate prior to exit and leave roundabout. TURNING LEFT OR CHANGING DIRECTION (e.g. 3rd OR FINAL EXIT) Enter roundabout keeping to left hand side lane. Stay in lane until you have passed the exit before your turn off, then change lane by indicating right and giving other road users sufficient time to anticipate your manoeuvre. Don’t forget that drivers circulating in the outside lanes have priority, so use your mirrors to ensure you are not blocking them as you change lanes. CELEBS ARE well known for letting their hair down, and last week in a beautiful spot on Lake Como, Italy, Mariah Carey held a party where all the guests were asked to dress up like her ... even the men! … and the rub is that Mariah didn´t come as herself, but went as her alter-ego, Bianca! ... God´s honest! She´s in Italy on the European leg of her “Sweet Sweet Fantasy World Tour, and stopped off to set up the party at the spectacular $12,250 per night 18th century Villa Napoleon, although Air B&B did give the singer complimentary use of the space. Now that’s what I call a freebie!
MCFLY WILL be doing multiple nights of live concerts in London, Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester beginning next month, and they plan to perform different songs from a different album each night at what they call ‘historic’ rock venues. It’s quite some undertaking, with the first night featuring songs from album ´Room On The Third Floor´, the second night songs from ´Wonderland´ and ´Motion In The Ocean,´ and on the third night they will play songs from ´Radio: ACTIVE and Above The Noise.’ By the end of the tour the group will have played every song they´ve ever recorded. I feel knackered already!
Where there´s a Will there´s a play THE RECENT celebrations on the 400th anniversary of the passing of William Shakespeare was attended by more than 10,000 people in Stratford-upon-Avon, who all turned up to remember a man who is widely regarded as the greatest ever writer in the English language. He wrote 36 plays and 154 sonnets, and although he received a lot of praise, surprisingly he was never actually revered in his lifetime. At aged just 18 he married 26-year-old Anne Hathaway who was pregnant with the first of their three children Susanna who was born six months later on 26 May 1583. Another odd fact is that we all believe the images of the great man are what he looked like, but he never commissioned a portrait of himself, nor is there any written evidence of his physical appearance, which to my mind suggests he was a bit of a shy guy. The celebrations in Stratford-upon-Avon were a lively affair featuring musicians, performers, local dignitaries, as well as Prince Charles who toured the writer’s former home and graveside at Stratford’s Holy Trinity Church where he laid a wreath. Inside the church the Prince was shown an inscription of Shakespeare’s grave stone, which reads ´cursed be he who moves my bones´ explained by Rev Patrick Taylor who said “the writer had his grave inscribed with the curse because he was petrified his remains might be moved to a nearby charnel house which lies behind a church door just a yard or two from the grave. Pretty solemn stuff that was beautifully counter-balanced by a 12-piece New Orleans-style jazz band that were flown over from Louisiana especially for the occasion. Drummer Gerald French said “We came to do a New Orleans jazz funeral for Shakespeare as he was one of the few people to be born and die the same day, so he gets a special procession.” Good on you Gerald.
I, LIKE most of you I suspect, have used the expression ´who said money doesn´t bring you happiness? There can’t be any more well off people in the music business than Beyoncé and hubby Jay Z but here they are, smack in the middle of all sorts of public bitching … let me explain. There’s a new trend in song writing where the writer says exactly how they feel about current people in their life, and with Beyoncé singing “Are you cheating on me? I don’t want to lose my pride, but imma f**k me up a b**ch,” a line that’s accredited to Jay Z´s alleged affair with Rita Ora … it’s gone into internet orbit. RadarOnline.com is updating the story every 10 minutes. ZZZZZZ!!
IN THE summer last year I brought you the tale of how Ab Fab: The Movie was in the advanced planning stages, and I am happy to tell you it’s now in the can, and is due for release on July 1st. Jennifer Saunders, 57, and Joanna Lumley, an incredible 69, head the cast as iconic characters Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone and Jane Horrocks rocks some kooky outfits playing Bubble. But there´s more and I mean a lot more, as the ladies have grafted in dozens and dozens of famous peeps to play cameo roles. So if you like shouting out “Oh look, there´s what’s-his/her name” you’re in for a real treat! BAKE OFF Creme de la Crème sent Twitter into meltdown after last week’s show in Liverpool. If you saw the programme you´ll know the teams had to make 36 each of three miniatures, a classic layered slice, hand-crafted slice and a cube petit gateau, before producing a showpiece reinvention of a chocolate cheesecake. The Twitter meltdown is to do with the severe criticism judges handed out, with Jana Steinhagensaying “I rarely tweet, but GBBOCreme is winding me up so much! I wanna throw those desserts at the judges faces!”… and Paul Ware “the judges want to be the stars, they are just judging the baking pathetically. Right with ya folks!!
THERE´S BEEN quite a hullabaloo surrounding Top Gear with suggestions Chris Evans has fallen out with Matt LeBlanc, not to mention his tyrannical divatype behaviour. All of that now takes a back seat after the BBC announced a show called ´Extra Gear´ will air in behind the main show that promises to give us a peek behind the scenes. The show will be fronted by Rory Reid who said “Extra Gear is hugely exciting, Top Gear fans are some of the keenest in the world, and I’m looking forward to giving viewers a different perspective on some of the coolest cars on the planet.” Don’t forget the boxing gloves Rory!

A slice of life by JACK TROUGHTON TRADITIONAL FIESTAS play a huge part in Spanish life and the Costa Blanca village of Benitachell was this week busy celebrating the ‘Virgin of the Rose’. Music, dancing, theatre, kids’ sports, and a giant paella are all part of the annual event as the Marina Alta community comes together to enjoy the party. Naturally, there is a religious history to the event. There is a huge and colourful wreath dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and both youngsters and elderly people have been to the parish church to lay floral bouquets and arrangements – a parade accompanied by the town band. And on Sunday there was a “deeply rooted” tradition – said to be unique to Benitachell – when this year’s pageant queens and their ladies in waiting, the festeras, walk the streets distributing bread. The ‘pans beneits’, or ‘blessed bread’, involves a parade through the centre of the community. Slices of bread are given to folk who stand in their doorways holding an empty plate. The party continues tomorrow (Saturday) with a paella contest in the centre of the village. There is a costume parade at 5pm and much later, a mobile disco.
Costa’s beach coffee COSTA COFFEE has opened its second café, this time on the Levante beach Benidorm.
This is a fantastic postion, facing the Mediterranean! The companies fi rst location opened back at the end of January on the busy Calle Gambo in a prime spot amongst some of Spain’s leading high street brands including Tous, Pandora, Zara and Sunglasses Hut to name a few. First founded in London in 1971 by Italians Sergio and Bruno Costa, it has now become the second larget coff ee chain in the world. Costa coff ee has grown quickly over the past 5 years with on average 150 stores being opened internationally every year with over 2,800 cafes across 30 countries throughout the world.

Basic Spanish for everyday needs by Jane Cronin
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
More Spanglish words Languages are not static things: their natural state of one of constant flux, with new words and expressions appearing and old ones disappearing constantly. For some reason, a lot of us strongly dislike changes in language, and it seems that the older we get, the more we hark back to the “correct” language of the past. A typical example of these changes in English is that wonderful way in which we turn nouns into verbs. A recent example was in the London Olympics when all of a sudden people were trying “to medal” or “to podium”. I for one cringe at this, but it no doubt sounds normal if you’re under (dared say what age), just as “to hand”, “to chair” or “to man” probably sounded excruciating to some previous generation of oldies. I’ve written before about the tendency in Spanish is to introduce anglicisms, especially “–ing” words such as “camping”, “parking”, “marketing” or more recently “piercing” which has now been official incorporated into the language with the spelling “pirsin”. Other “Englishisms” which enjoy a fully “Spanishified” spelling are “fútbol”, “tique” “mitin” and “líder”. Many of these words have been become so accepted that people are probably unaware of their English origin. It’s all part of a normal linguistic process. Anyway, I thought I’d regale you with some more recent examples, many of which come from computer technology, and therefore American rather than British English. Sometimes English words are used because they express concepts that do not exist in Spanish; sometimes they are used to sound trendy or intellectual when perfectly good Spanish equivalents exist and often their meaning alters slightly in their new language – a fact that can create some confusion for native English speakers. Spellings start to alter informally because of pronunciation difficulties. This is true of the following examples I’ve seen over last few days. Can you work out what they are? “táper”, “potochó”, “potcas”, “feisbuk”. Well, of course! They are “tupper”, which we call “Tupperware” (related to recent comments about the closure of school canteens and children taking their own lunches to school in a “táper”); photoshop, podcast and Facebook, all computer terms which you either know about, or you don’t basically! Another strange computer one is “pendrive”. I learnt to use this item in Spanish first so was surprised when an English speaking per-
son who knows about computers didn’t understand me. It turns out that in real English a “pendrive” is a “memory stick”! Here’s another cluster of terms which I find intriguing: “performance”, “show” and “boy”. Our understanding of performance is “actuación” in Spanish, but when the Spanish say “performance” they are referring to some kind of avant garde, spontaneous public display (like nude protesting or those videos of opera singers in metro stations). We all know what a “show” is in English, but I was intrigued to read in Spanish the other day about an actor’s humble beginnings doing “shows”. It turns out it meant working as a male stripper! This takes me to the word “boy” which refers to the same activity. Moving back onto safer ground, what about “friki”? This comes from “freak” but does actually mean Victorian circus creatures, more just people who are a little bit strange! And finally, there is a lot of talk these days about “fairplay” in Spanish sport. We pride ourselves on this British attribute, something to do with cricket, but you’d better know that both Real Madrid and Barcelona have recently been awarded for their “fairplay” in the game of “fútbol”. Wonders will never cease.

Going towards a more ecological home The human race has been trying to be ecological since they started to shelter themselves using any local materials available at the time. In Spain there are large differences between homes at north where temperature can plunge to a freezing -20Cº (-4º Fahrenheit) to temperatures in Seville for example where we can see luminous street sign displaying a scorching 50ºC (122º Fahrenheit) during midsummer. Houses on those regions differed tremendously in their constructions, forms and their orientations. At north windows of houses are installed with an orientation towards South in order to get light and heat. In the south regions windows tend to be smaller as there is more sun light and also most façades are painted white intending to reflect the heat and obtain a fresher interior environment during the sizzling summers. New materials and technologies. The difference between this form of construction and the current methods is that now there are new materials and technologies so that building can go one step further and be designed with little environmental impact. The latest approved regulations point towards this direction. One of them is the revision of the European directive (200291EC) on energy efficiency of buildings. The directive makes obligatory to meet minimum requirements for energy efficiency and supply accreditation with a certificate with validity not exceeding more than 10 years. This certificate was explained in my last week article for CBN. Homes built from 2019 onwards must be energetically self-sufficient. It will be required that all buildings that may commence construction from 2019 must be energetically self-sufficient and may not emit any harmful gases into the atmosphere. This
measure is expected to reduce to zero the energy expenditure of the new homes and reduce total domestic energy consumption. I personally think that this challenge will be very difficult to be achieved if not impossible although I hope to be wrong. It has been shown that the method that houses is built influences noticeable the way it increase or decrease the use of energy in Europe. The EU already verified that new houses consume between three and five liters of fuel in heating per square meter of built floor area per year, that consumption rockets up on old homes with poor or none existing insulation to 25 liters of fuel per year. The new Spanish Building Regulations “El Código Técnico de la Edificación” (CTE) adopted in 2007 replaced the previous regulations on thermal insulation, dated back to 1979, when energy saving was not as a serious problem as it is now and the consumer was not so demanding on environmental quality of housing. Triples the requirements for acoustic insulation. The new regulations on noise insulation compared to the previous, triples the requirements for acoustic insulation in new housing projects. But that is not the only change. The greatest novelty of the CTE is defined as a series of demands that the architect must fulfill covering all the elements in the construction, from the foundations to the roof. In many cases, these changes materialize in issues that are not always perceived by the user, as it is the case of thermal insulation in walls. Another outstanding issue in the new code affects ventilation. As we all know houses have been ventilated since immemorial times by opening the windows. However, now the way of life has changed and building materials have also changed. Windows can be hermetically closed and it is no longer an exception that a home could remain closed for days, weeks and even months, without allowing a any air getting in, which affects the amount of pollutants and pathogens bacteria that
are accumulated indoors. Ventilate whether you like it or not. To ensure ventilation of buildings, the CTE forces new homes to incorporate a system of permanent ventilation that allows air circulation even though the home is closed. Other requirements are based on a greater thermal insulation, the obligation to take advantage of solar photovoltaic panels and in the fulfillment of minimum energy efficiency requirements. The CTE does not say how to do it exactly, what it does it establishes the conditions which are required for new houses regarding temperature comfort, moisture, sound insulation, or ventilation, among others, so it is in the hands of the architect to study each case, taking into account the location, the climate and other environmental facts, and providing the solutions to meet those requirements. However, only new projects with building licenses that have been applied for after 2007 must comply with these standards. It is expected that new buildings consume between 30 and 40 less energy and reduce CO2 emissions, between 40 and 55%. These savings can be higher in the future. Proof of this is the European directive that aims to build self-sufficient buildings from the energy point of view. An example of this is a project, developed by a consortium of construction and technological companies together with several universities, and with the support of several Regional Governments, the European Union and the Ministry of Education and Science are proposing that new buildings should save more than 80 and 90% on conventional energy by the usage of passive solar systems based on bioclimatic architectural design and the use of solar energy systems together with the use of biomass energy. To demonstrate this, it is possible that five pilot buildings are built in different Spanish towns with very different climates such as Asturias, Soria, Madrid and Almeria. Something I look forward seeing.

Pulled chicken This twist on the street-food favourite, pulled pork, is recreated using juicy chicken thighs to cut the calories for a healthy taco filling
Ingredients 8 bone-in chicken thighs, skin removed and discarded and trimmed of any big bits of fat 2 tbsp chipotle paste 250ml passata 75g barbecue sauce 1 onion, chopped juice 3 limes, plus extra wedges to serve (optional) 2 x 400g cans black beans, drained and rinsed 215g can refried beans 1 small, ripe avocado, diced ½ small pack coriander, leaves only 3 Baby Gem lettuces, shredded 8-12 tacos, or cooked rice, to serve Method 1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Rub the chicken thighs with 1 tbsp of the chipotle paste and some seasoning. Mix the remaining chipotle paste with the passata, barbecue sauce, 100ml water and half the onion. Spoon the sauce into a roasting tin that will fit the chicken snugly in a single layer and add the chicken thighs. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 1 hr, then uncover, increase the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and bake for another
20 mins. 2. Meanwhile, mix the remaining onion with the lime juice and some salt, and set aside while the chicken cooks. Mix all the beans in a saucepan with 100ml water, ready to heat to serve. 3. When the chicken is really tender, use two forks to shred the meat into the sauce (discard the bones). Keep covered with the foil while you heat the beans for 5-10 mins until piping hot and not too wet, and warm the tacos following pack instructions. Stir the avocado and coriander leaves into the limeonion mixture. 4. Serve the pulled chicken and beans with shredded lettuce and tacos, or rice and lime wedges to squeeze over, if you like. Top with a spoonful of the avocado salsa.

E-cigarettes…the pros and the cons! The era of e-cigarettes is here and it is a booming billion dollar industry. Unfortunately the growing popularity of e-cigarettes is racing faster than research into their safety.
How e-cigarettes work
All brands basically work the same way. There is a battery, a heating element and a cartridge that holds nicotine and other liquids and flavourings. Some are disposable whilst others have a rechargeable battery and refillable cartridges. They are made to look like a real cigarette. The end glows when inhaled and during exhalation a puff of vapour is released.
Are They Safe?
There is no question that the nicotine inside the cartridges is addictive. When a person stops using it they can get withdrawal symptoms including feeling irritable, depressed, restless and anxious. It can be dangerous for people with certain heart conditions. However, evidence so far suggests that e-cigarettes may be safer than regular cigarettes. Tests show the levels of dangerous chemicals they give off are a fraction of what you’d get from a real cigarette.
Pros and Cons
E-cigarettes have triggered a fierce debate among health experts. The biggest danger from tobacco is
smoke and of course e-cigarettes don’t burn. But they disagree about whether e-cigarettes make the problem better or worse. Opponents say that because nicotine is addictive, ecigarettes could be a “gateway drug,” leading nonsmokers and kids to use tobacco. They also worry that manufacturers with huge advertising budgets and celebrity endorsements could make smoking popular again. This would destroy any good that has come out of anti-smoking campaigns. Some supporters believe that e-cigarettes could help people quit, just like nicotine gum. Whichever side of the fence you sit, I think that most people would agree that undoubtably, the best case scenario is to quit smoking cigarettes altogether, be it normal cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
Laser therapy – a different approach to giving up smoking
For those who’ve tried other ways to ‘kick the habit’ laser therapy may be the answer. It is completely painless and has no side effects whatsoever. So how does it work? Once the low level (cold) laser is activated on acupuncture points, endorphins (natural painkillers in your body) are released. This has a calming and relaxing effect and eliminates the desire for a cigarette. Laser also takes away cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Therapy also includes 24 hour back-up and support from our laser technician Anni Mann.

Happy pilgrims ORIHUELA is to be the starting point for the pilgrimage route to Murcia’s historic Caravaca de la Cruz, a popular route with hikers. The city’s Councillor for Tourism, Sofia Alvarez, announced an agreement has been signed with the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia (ITREM) to become the starting point of the ‘Camino de Levante’ so that “Orihuela will be united with the Caravaca through this renowned pilgrimage trek”. It is hoped local businesses will benefit from the route by food and accommodation to walkers, while Orihuela will collaborate in staging events and activities during the celebration of the Jubilee Year of Caravaca de la Cruz in 2017.

La Vila book a trip to burgos
by Tony Fox
Winning 15 to 6 in the second leg of their quarter final pay off match against CAU Valencia, La Vila secured the tie 29 to 19 on aggregate. They now meet Universidad de Burgos first away next weekend and then at Villajoyosa the following week in the semi final. Much more at home on a grass pitch than the artificial one in Valencia, they again showed their fighting spirit when after CAU scored a penalty, Luca Poggi scoring a try which Matias Jara duly converted. Javier Carron scored another try which was not converted to counter a penalty scored by CAU. La Vila led 12 to 6 at half time. CAU showed their fighting spirit in the second half but to no avail. The La Vila defending was awesome and even allowing for having a man ‘sin binned ‘ CAU could not take advantage and Matias Jara scored a penalty to close out the match and tie giving them the win they thoroughly deserved. Even after the lessons of the first leg La Vila had that moment of indiscipline reducing them to 12.5% of the match with only 14 players. They got away with it this time but against tougher opposition they will pay the price. For further information on future games and how you can support your local team in their effort to gain entry to the first division, please visit their website at www.rugbylavila.net On Saturday and Sunday, from 9.00 am until 3 pm, La Vila hosts the Spanish Under 18 Championship Finals under 18. Free entrance.
And Saturday 7th may, from 5 to 8 pm, 4 xv a side tournament, with SILEBY RFC, MILL HILL RFC, HSBC RUGBY, and LA VILA B. There will be four short games 2x20 minutes. Free entrance.
Benitachell Bowls Club’s Open Competition
A complete week of bowling has taken place at Benitachell Bowls Club. This competition is open to all clubs far and wide and was, as always, well attended. The weather was not too bad and the club saw a good turn out of spectators. Sunday 1st May was the finals day for the Rinks, Mixed Pairs and the Single’s game. An early start faced the Rinks teams, with Maggie Lawley, Tony Lawley, Steve Griffin and Tim Woodcock against Dave Roberts, Jacquie Roberts, Annie
Jones and Rosina Dunham. A hard fought game between the teams saw Maggie Lawley and her team the winners. The Plate competition for the rink’s team went to Brian and Diane Manser, Joe and Diane Ridley, runners up were Dudley and Carol Davies and Jeff and Linda Richards. The pairs competition again featured Maggie and Tony Lawley against Alan Phillips and Velia Woods from Javea Green. The winners of the game were Alan and Velia. The singles were last with the ladies event first. A really
good game involving two BBC Bowlers, the game being won eventually by Viv Humble and runner up Jackie Munt. The men’s singles went to the wire with Alan Phillips (Javea Green) and our own Dudley Davies. A great final game won, in the end, by Alan Phillips. This competition was really well organised and gave one and all an excellent week of bowling. As always it was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. Congratulations to all those that took part and all the people behind the scenes, organising, marking, umpiring and of course the catering.
Pego golf “ the Javea cup”

All were warmly welcomed by our Captain David O’Connor. The weather was beautiful, the course in marvellous condition, and looking magnificent The results of the “Javea Cup” competition were follows :Division 1 1st Place was Donna Green and Barry Levett with a net score of 62 2nd Place was Tricia Chapman and Malcolm Cannon with a net score of 64. 3rd Place was David Collins and David Blakely with a net score of 64. 4th Place was Brian Barden and Alan Barwick with a net score of 65 5th Place was Steve Patton and Paul Trigwell with a net score of 65 6th Place was Angus Muir and Jim Leith with a net score of 66 Our players of the day were Donna Green and Barry Levett, with a wonderful score, and congratulations to all our winners with such very low scoring There were seven two’s today and they were recorded by Marin Gates, Malcolm Wise, Barry Levett, Donna Green, Mal-
colm Cannon, Bob Jenkins and our guest Neil Ewell. The “Balls in the Water” prize was not won today as the total number of balls in the water was 141. That’s a lot of balls. Nearest the hole at Hole 5 with their second shot was Sam “the man” Salmon with 0.83 meters and nearest the hole, at hole 16, was Bob Jenkins with 1.47 meters. If any member or guest would like to play with the Pego Golf Society, and who wouldn’t, as we are playing a “Magic Three Competition” please contact our secretary and send an e-mail to Penny Barden at pegohandicapsec@gmail.com or enter through our website www.pegogolfsociety.com. Joe’s team Keith Lard F.C.have virtually wrapped up this Season’s A.F.F.L.by top scoring this week with a tally of 48 points which gives them a formidable 99 point advantage over our top Lady Managers team Plaistow13hammers.Scott’s Dog Dale and Darren’s team The Pheonix Club remain in 3rd & 4th place while Arthur’s Wombles quest for a top 4 finish improved when they jumped up 3 places to 7th.Down at the foot of the table Lyn’s Handbrake City have been cut adrift since the 7th week of the Season and have never looked like moving since 2 of her strike force Liverpool’s Danny Ings and Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony got injured. The Golden Boot League which is sponsored by Leonard Knowles Construction is going right down to the wire with only 1 point between the leaders James’s Jukeboxers and Dave’s Pearson’s
Alfaz fantasy football league Smashers while at the other end of the table it is just the opposite with Handbrake City in line for their 2nd Wooden Spoon. Maxine’s Plaistow13hammers are in a strong position at the top of our Mark Carter Ladies Section with a comfortable 77 point lead over Debbie’s Foxy Filberts. Joanna’s Hup Hannah City and Liz’s White Lions are fighting for the runners up spot along with the Foxes as Karen’s Ceasar’s Blackcats have slipped out of the running.Plaistow13hammers have won for the 3rd time this Season our 20 euro voucher which is sponsored by Quick Save Supermarket in Albir when they just edged out Liz’s White Lions by 5 points. Nathan’s Tyrannosuarez-Rex F.C.are still in pole position in our U.K.T.V.SPAIN Junior League, they currently have a 36 point advantage over last Season’s winners of this Section Super Rhys.Harley’s Ginger Ninjar are in 3rd place but they don’t look like closing the gap on the leaders. At the other end of the scale Bradley’s team Hero to Zero have joined Marcus’s Salford Sausages at bottom both dead level on 620 points and with only 3 weeks to go it’s anybodys guess who will finish up dropping through the Trap Door. Three teams will go into the hat for our case of Cava which is sponsored by Premier Imports who are specialists in supplying British Real Ales.´ Leaders Keith Lard F.C. who top scored with 48 points and
our Two lowest scoring teams Nick’s Blues & Angie’s Blues who both finished up with a minus 5 score. Manager of the Month for April as been sponsored by Our Plaice in the Sun Restaurant in Albir and the lucky winner is Grahem whose team Benivorm just pipped Tyrannosuarez-Rex by 3 points courtesy of Southampton’s Mane who bagged a hat-trick against a weakened Manchester City side. Dominic who is an avid Barnsley Fan has had a good weekend with his team in line for a play off place,he has also moved up 19 places in the Fantasy which has won him a Breakfast for 2 at Rafters sponsored by Kate. With the 2 F.A.Cup Semi-Finals out of the way Ian’s team Tasty Toffees are still top of our RTN F.A.Cup League with a lead of 18 points over Mick’s Marvels.Parky’s Players are in 3rd position with Coey & Doey’s team Parkwyddn in fourth place waiting to pounce as they have 4 players available for the F.A.Cup Final. Don’t forget with only 3 weeks to go it’s important to follow your teams progress in the coming weeks by visiting our website which is www.alfazffl.com or if you can’t access a computer you can always pop into one of the Bars which support us by displaying all the League Tables on their Notice Boards, in Alfaz Robin’s Nest, in Benidorm Union Jack, in Albir Wyndhams & The Local and over in Moraira Barilloche.

Plane parking launch new website WE HAVE great news, Plane Parking are launching a brand new website this Monday. It not only looks good but is now fully automated and will make it easier for you our customers to book your parking; it also calculates the cost automatically so you can see the cost of your parking before you book. We would like to say a big thank you to Daniel Beard from Brunel - Encantado Diseño Web for writing and designing our new website.
Do you fly from Alicante or San Javier airports, or is it sometimes both? What you really need is a professional and secure airport parking company based at both Alicante and San Javier (Murcia) Airports that can cater for both short term and long term clients. Of course you also want a company that is fully insured, offers you total security with a comprehensive alarm and CCTV system which allows you to have total peace of mind 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Not too much to ask!!! Plane Parking is ideally situated to look after your needs for both Alicante and San Javier (Murcia) airports. They currently have secure airport parking facilities directly in front of Alicante Airport and less than 2km from San Javier (Murcia) Airport. At Alicante you are provided with a `meet and greet´ service right outside departures and at Murcia you can drop off your vehicle and be transferred to departures by their new 9 seater minibus, free of charge. On return to either Alicante or Murcia airports, you will be met outside departures by one of their experienced customer service staff who will have your vehicle ready and waiting and sparkling clean, what more could you ask for. All vehicles that are booked with Plane Parking receive a complimentary external car wash, a really handy free extra. Having facilities at both airports gives you total flexibility with your
