Camp Kaufmann
@girlscoutcampkaufmann
campkaufmann@girlscoutsnyc.org
Located 75 miles north of NYC in Dutchess County, Camp Kaufmann stretches over 425 acres and features a lake, pool, archery range, hiking trails, butterfly garden, greenhouse, ropes course, zipline, and so much more! Open year-round, Camp Kaufmann welcomes Girl Scouts from across New York City to learn about the outdoors as they make new friends. Our seasonal programs include day trips, weekend overnights, and longer sleepaway stays. No matter the length of your visit, you’re sure to enjoy the benefits of connecting with nature. Camp Kaufmann is owned and operated by the Girl Scouts of Greater New York and is fully accredited by the American Camp Association.
The Nature Acclimation Process
As the only council exclusively serving Girl Scouts living in an urban city, we feel a special responsibility to get our members outdoors! First-time explorations into nature can be scary . Knowing this, we offer two Open Houses that we recommend all first-time campers attend (more info on page 13), and many of our experiences for younger Girl Scouts are specifically designed to help acclimate them to the natural world . Our philosophy is that when members better understand the natural world, they are more likely to care for it
The many benefits of spending time outdoors at camp include:
• Learning to solve problems and overcome challenges,
• Developing leadership and teamwork skills, and
• Building social bonds and overall happiness
• Becoming team players and stewards of the environment .
