Volunteer Descriptions

Community STEM Volunteers: Lead hands-on activities, interact with families and kids, and help make the day fun for all participants.

Girls in STEM Presenters: This one-day conference gives 4th - 8th grade girls the opportunity to

learn about exciting careers from professional women. The highlight of each workshop is a hands-on activity that shows the girls how much fun a science, technology, engineering, or math career can be!

Girls in STEM Volunteers: General event volunteers help make this day run smoothly. Activities

range from assisting workshops to chatting with girls during lunch.

Summer Camp Guest Speakers: We welcome female guest speakers who are professionals working in STEM careers to join us at Summer Camp and give a 30-40 minute presentation to participants.

Speakers can either do a hands-on activity with participants or have a conversation about their careers, education, how they got to where they are, etc. You can even showcase a product you’ve worked on. There will also be time at the end for a 10 minute Q&A. Summer Camp To-Go Lunch STEM Mentor: Join Girlstart participants during lunch for a mini

mentoring session. Learn what girls are doing at camp, share about your career path and have an informal lunch time chat. We can accommodate 3-4 volunteers per day.

Luncheon Committee Members and Volunteers: Girlstart’s Annual Luncheons, Game Changers, is a special celebration honoring women in STEM and raising critical funds to support Girlstart programs (ATX, HTX).

Group and Team Volunteer Opportunities: Girlstart is continually prepping materials for our

year round programs. We welcome groups to join us at our offices to help get program materials ready, or we can bring them to your offices. Examples of projects include: assembling engineering journals for girls, tracing gliders, and cutting cardboard wheels for cars.

Skill Based Volunteer Opportunities: Girlstart is always looking for people to volunteer their skills such as: technical expertise, marketing, fundraising, and finance.

STEM Champions: Help Girlstart grow! STEM Champions advocate and share Girlstart to promote

our cause. You can also help send girls to camp by creating an online team or personal fundraising page to raise needed scholarships.
