ELL Leadership Students of SGHS lead an icebreaker to jumpstart the event.
Youth Summit 2016
This year’s Youth Summit T-shirt Design was created by NFHS student Zelma Miranda.
On October 26th 2016, the 6th Annual Youth Summit of the Department of ELL was held at the Curtis Culwell Center. The Youth Summit is a yearly endeavor of the Department of ELL which serves as an inaugural platform to jumpstart the awareness and appreciation of the many opportunities awaiting our ELL population. Attended by around 200 students from all seven HS campuses as well as the visiting Taiwanese delegation, the event celebrated the prospective sparks or talents of students along with the advantages biliteracy affords them. This year, with the theme of “Branching Out”, the summit also aimed at spotlighting the various significant community service projects that each high school campus ELL Leadership class has organized and achieved in the past years. This was done in their pursuit to reach out and be model citizens of their new home, the United States. Along with the project highlights, the event was also student-led from the emcees to the facilitators of modules for the new attendees. Going back to this summit design emphasizes the empowerment of our ESL students’ talents, capabilities, and potentials and the aspiration for them to be future service leaders of their communities.
Students from all 7 campuses and our Taiwanese exchange delegation pose for group pictures at the end of the day.
