Letter from the General Manager So where do we go from here? I ask myself this question all the time because it forces me to think about things. Sometimes it helps bring ideas and concepts into sharper focus. Other times, asking this question stimulates the flow of ideas. I rely on this question to guide me. Ask yourself right now…where do we go from here? Write down the first thing that comes to mind. Then ask yourself again in a couple of days. You’d be surprised how different the answer is depending on when you ask it. In developing the show this year, we’ve asked this question of our team in many different ways, many times. But, now it’s time to ask you... Where do you go from here at IncentiveWorks? Is this your first time at the show and you are literally wondering where to go (if that is the case, see page 6 for information on our concierge service who can help!), or have you attended for a year or two, 10 or 20 and want to get something more from the show, or something more from yourself?
In establishing our goals for the show this year, we kept coming back to the concept of pushing boundaries. We are all in the constant hunt for new relationships, partnerships, connections and ideas. So when you get to the show this year, we don’t want you to “do” the show the way you always have. We want you to take a different approach to your IncentiveWorks experience this year. If you haven’t done so yet, take our #IWnetwork quiz to see what kind of IW planner you are. You will learn a little about yourself and ways you can get more from the show. If you’ve never attended our Education program before, why not? It’s only $99 and you can add an Education pass at any time at our Registration Desk. Take an #IWnetwork tour with our team to meet even more new people or be introduced to that one person you’ve been hoping to find. We’ve created a phenomenal program this year through education, networking, giving back and honouring our industry. We are thrilled you are finally here to share it with us.

Education@
IncentiveWorks 2014 EDUCATION MATTERS TO PLANNERS. At IncentiveWorks, we understand that. Our education sessions and workshops are designed to provide insight, tips and applicable learning experiences for every level of planner, regardless of where you are at in your career.
We enlist professional speakers and industry experts to bring you engaging, relevant content to help you deliver better events. The program is designed by the events and editorial team of the award-winning Meetings + Incentive Travel (M+IT) magazine. With more than 40 years of experience covering the meetings industry, M+IT knows what planners want. IncentiveWork’s education program brings the pages of the magazine to life. BONUS: We pre-qualify our education sessions with the Convention Industry Council (CIC) so that time spent at IncentiveWorks may help you gain your certification or re-certification!
TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2014 BREAKOUT SESSIONS 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
GETTING THE MOST FROM HOTEL RELATIONSHIPS
Presented by Vito Curalli, Hilton Worldwide How do you get past the pitch on a site visit and get the information you really want? Is there a way to avoid haggling over the price with each hotel? How do you tell your hotel partner that the property did not meet your expectations without severing the relationship? If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions or wondered how to strengthen your relationships with hotel partners, then this session is for you.
UNIQUE VENUES: FINDING THAT HIDDEN GEM
Presented by Kathryn Wakefield, Tourism Toronto Finding a ‘wow’ venue for your next event can be a challenge, but there are plenty of gems out there, if you know where to look. In this session, you’ll get the inside track on some surprising venues, discover what key things every planner should look for when choosing a venue and leave with some cool new resources that will help you find the next locale for your special event. As a bonus, attendees of this session will receive a complimentary copy of the Toronto Special Events Directory to help make the search a little easier.

HOW TO BE MEMORABLE: A PARTICIPATORY NETWORKING WORKSHOP
Presented by Robin Johnston, Connect 1st Tired of networking workshops where you listen and take notes? Prepare for a new kind of session where participants will discover the six elements you need to make new connections and build your network and then put them in to practice within the session. We’ll talk about how to be memorable in face-to-face interactions and you’ll have the opportunity to implement these engagement techniques with one-on-one focused conversations with other attendees in the room. Session registrants will receive a pre-networking “how to” document to help them prepare and gain the most from this workshop. Leave this session with the skills and confidence to connect with people throughout IncentiveWorks and beyond. Session limited to 40 attendees. Pre-register to guarantee your seat.

9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
Presented by Grail Noble, Yellow House Events Think you can’t be creative on a budget? This session is designed to prove you wrong! In this presentation you’ll see real-life examples of how luxe galas and chic conferences have been created without a massive budget. You’ll learn tricks to make your dollar go further—including where to splurge and where to save—to make the biggest impact without an oversized price tag.
FEAR OF THE “GREEN” MONSTER
Presented by Trevor Lui, The International Centre The rapid emergence of sustainable business meetings have struck fear into even the most seasoned of planners. Interact in group conversation on how to wade through the tides of information in the marketplace and find the right tools suited for your event. Are you losing traction and possibly valuable business opportunities? Join us as we crowd-source attendees’ choices of the industry’s most sought-after topics on sustainable events from demystifying ASTM/APEX and Green Key to how to make your events green without going over budget. Help design this session by submitting your questions prior to the conference and walk away with valuable information on balancing your ‘green’ books.
HOW TO GET WHAT YOU WANT FROM PROFESSIONAL SPEAKERS
Presented by Martin Perelmuter and Kelly MacDonald-Hill, Speakers’ Spotlight If you’re spending the money on a professional speaker, you expect someone polished, experienced and engaging that will wow attendees. But how do you ensure you get what you need from a speaker after the contracts are signed. Our experts will help you determine the right questions to ask upfront, the preparatory steps to take before the event and what extras a speaker might be willing to do for you to help make your event a success. Whether you’re new to hiring professional speakers or simply want to learn how to get the most out of working with them, attend this session and leave with tips to make your next keynote, conference or training workshop a success.

ADVANCING FROM EVENT PLANNER TO MANAGER OF EVENTS
Presented by Eliza Hixson, Leeds Metropolitan University As organizations develop Strategic Meetings Management Programs (SMMPs), there are new opportunities for planners who want to advance their careers. If you have established yourself as a top-ranked planner for managing individual meetings and events and would like to move to the next level within the organization, this session is for you. In order to be considered for an operations manager position, you will need to demonstrate your abilities and potential to meet the requirements of this new role.
POSITION YOU TO WIN!
A SESSION SPECIFICALLY FOR SUPPLIERS & EXHIBITORS
Presented by Jill Harrington, salesSHIFT Fact: Sales success has little to do with how great your services are and a lot to do with how you “position” your greatness in context of what your buyers care about most. And, as suppliers to the M&IT industry, you have multiple opportunities to position you to win… through your sales messages, site inspections, presentations, proposals, trade shows and more. According to your buying community here’s the bad news: An awful lot of suppliers do a poor job of differentiating themselves from their competitors in all of these, which means you’re blowing opportunities to move valuable relationships forward and to win good business at great prices. Be the supplier that stands out and gets noticed every time. Our favourite sales expert, Jill Harrington, returns to IncentiveWorks to show you how to position yourself to win—every time!
Outcomes + Know and understand the necessary competencies for an operations manager + Compare those to your current skill set, and pinpoint gaps and areas of development for yourself + Create and execute a plan to upgrade your capabilities
HOW TO ATTRACT AND KEEP EVENT SPONSORS
Presented by Mariela McIlwraith, Meeting Change In this interactive session, review best practices for attracting and retaining event sponsors and for delivering benefits that enhance business value for sponsors, attendees and event owners. Consider true stories of sponsors and event owners who collaborate as partners, leveraging their strengths to create more memorable event experiences.
Outcomes + Review best practices for developing an event sponsorship prospectus + Learn about alternative sponsorship benefit models that can be adapted for better value for sponsors and event owners + Customize your own roadmap for attracting and retaining sponsors

ABOUT MARK BOWDEN Mark Bowden is an expert in human behaviour and body language, and the creator of TRUTHPLANE, a communication training company and unique methodology for anyone who has to communicate to an audience with impact. Mark gives keynote Mark Bowden speeches worldwide on Communications Expert persuasive verbal and nonverbal language and communication structures to stand out, win trust and profit, and his techniques are widely used by Fortune 500 companies, CEOs and G8 leaders. Mark’s publications are bestselling Winning Body Language; Winning Body Language for Sales Professionals; and Tame the Primitive Brain.
ABOUT JACKIE HUBA Jackie Huba’s work has been called “the word-of-mouthgospel” by Forbes magazine. An expert on creating and sustaining customer loyalty, Jackie is the bestselling author of Monster Loyalty: How Lady Gaga Turns Followers into Fanatics, and is the co-author of Jackie Huba Citizen Marketers: When Word-of-Mouth People are the Message, Marketing Expert along with Creating Customer Evangelists: How Loyal Customers Become a Volunteer Sales Force. Through her work, she has helped companies such as Discovery Communications, Whirlpool, Dell, Rogers, Yahoo, and Kraft to create unprecedented loyalty in their customer base.
With so many people competing on the planet right now, HOW WILL YOU EVER GET NOTICED? If you’re simply being yourself, chances are, you won’t. Mark Bowden will show you how being your “AUTHENTIC” self may be impeding your success. In this highly entertaining and PROVOCATIVE keynote speech, Mark suggests the part of our brain responsible for making snap judgments is actually steering us away from beneficial and PROFITABLE RELATIONSHIPS, both personally and in business. Why? It’s a survival mechanism, used to help us feel safe. But it’s also what’s standing between us and our full potential. Come prepared to laugh and leave with techniques that YOU CAN USE IMMEDIATELY to change how people see you.
It’s not just crazy outfits, over-the-top performances, and catchy tunes that have made Lady Gaga one of the most successful pop stars of all time. Marketers have also been awed by her UNCONVENTIONAL customer loyalty strategy. With 39 million Twitter followers she blows away her peers on social media. She has methodically built a GRASSROOTS base of what she calls her “Little Monsters”—passionate fans who look to her not just for music but also for joy and SallyJackie Hogshead inspiration. Marketing expert Huba UNPACKS THE Author, Fascinate METHOD behind Lady Gaga’s success and isolates the seven strategies businesses can apply in an ENGAGING and interactive presentation based on the RESEARCH from her new book, Monster Loyalty: How Lady Gaga Turns Followers into Fanatics.

Test Drive: Walking Meetings Will they work for your groups?
Sara Vanderbilt, SPIN Planners If sitting is the new smoking, then boy are we in trouble. There’s been a slew of research saying office workers need to get up and get moving, and perhaps even meet with colleagues while you go for a walk. In this “test drive” session, you’ll get to experience what a walking session is really like, while hearing from a planner who has implemented these types of sessions at her own conference. meetingscanada.com/incentiveworks
