Door Construction • All 4 exposed edges are composite, and engineered wood in door stiles.

• Stiles of these doors use a laminated-engineered construction method which virtually eliminates the possibility of warping. These engineered stiles extend from the top to the bottom of each stile, eliminating the need for "lock blocks". The doors therefore are not "handed"....door hardware may be installed on either door edge.

• 18 Gauge, heavy duty steel faces on both inside and outside faces of the door Thermal Break • Due to the door design, the door is 100% thermally broken to greatly reduce thermal transfer of heat from one side of the door to the opposite side.

Multi-Patented Design for Strength and Performance A

Patent-Pending Trimmable edges. All door edges are trimmable, to allow for a perfect fit. 1/4” trim allowed on top and sides, and 1-1/2” on the bottom edge. Trimming the door more than this amount is not possible, as the saw blade will contact the steel face of the door. Use standard tools to trim door.

These edges are moulded and positioned to be flush with the steel door skins faces on both sides of the door.

LSL-Laminated Strand Lumber beams used on door stiles and rails provide the strongest steel door available! No “lock-blocks” used or needed. The entire door stile is a LSL beam! This is a very strong method of assembly. Much of the steel door skins is backed by this LSL timber, making it even more dent resistant.

Real hand wrought iron mounted to a composite frame for installation into the door. The iron grille can open for cleaning or be secured in the closed position for added security.

The core of the door panels are filled with patented BioFoam™ GlassCraft’s unique insulating foam produced by utilizing plant-based oil sources. This is a closed-cell urethane foam with a density of approximately. 2.5 lbs. sq,foot.

Most of these entryway configurations have been approved by state regulatory entities for use in windstorm areas. Note that the “rough opening size” listed below is a “tight” size, and is for reference only. Your installer may wish to add to these rough opening sizes. Product Specifications for Buffalo Forge Steel ThermaPlus Doors All-Composite Jamb Frame Components include StrikeJamb™ Steel reinforcement Buffalo Forge Steel THERMAPLUS Doors are available as door-only or as pre-hung with rot-proof composite door frame with StrikeJamb™.

Pre-hung units include brick mold, T-astragal (for double doors), sill cover, door sweep, weatherstripping, and adjustable threshold, plus 3 ball-bearing hinges on 6’-8” tall doors and 4 ball-bearing hinges on 8’-0” tall doors.

ALL Pre-hung units include GlassCraft’s exclusive StrikeJamb™ reinforcement, providing extra security around the door frame strike plate area with the addition of a large 18 gauge steel reinforcing plate on single doors, and a steel reinforcing plate added to the astragal for double doors. Pre-hung units may be ordered unfinished or factory finished. Standard pre-hung door units can be ordered with any of our standard double bore or multi-point lock sets and handle set options. Pre-hung entryways include 4-5/8” or 6-5/8” full composite jamb options and composite exterior brick mold. GlassCraft composite jamb system can be stained or painted.

The Strike Jamb reinforcement (image shown at right) is installed on the lock side jamb leg for safety and security. For double door units, a steel reinforcement plate is added to the smooth composite T-Astragal for reinforcement. (Double door units do not include steel reinforcement in the jamb legs...only in the Astragal).

Prices in the price list for pre-hung units include a factory pre-finish on both door and jamb. To order a prefinished door pre-hung in an unfinished door jamb fame, order the door slab only and add the pre-hung stock number from the next page (page 6) which is for an unfinished pre-hung unit.

Glass Panel Product Information

Construction Specifications of Glass Panels for ThermaPlus Doors 1) The glass used in our ThermaPlus Steel Doors meets or exceeds the 2011 Consumer Product Safety Commission Requirements for Safety Glazing in Architectural Entries and the International Residential CodeÂŽ for One and Two Family Dwellings section R308 Glazing Guidelines. All glass panels are in compliance with the CPSC 16 CFR 1201 requirements.

3) Our double thick IG decorative glass panels are produced with Insulated Glass construction using tempered safety glass on both sides. Using IG glass panels in our doors allows for easier cleaning, energy efficiency, and more security. All glass panels in the Buffalo Forge ThermaPlus Catalog doors are two layers thick.

4) Upon installation, glass panels are mounted into the door using structural silicone sealant. This sealant provides several benefits, including a straight, black sight line, and excellent weatherproof seal, and a further cushion for the glass panel to absorb the shock of a door slam.

5) The Buffalo Forge Steel ThermaPlus Door series offers various textured glass options for the double-thickness glass panels. See the next page for more information on these glass texture options.

ThermaPlus Door Pre-finish Information Shown below are the six colors available for ThermaPlus door finishing. These are the same six colors that are offered for Buffalo Forge Classic doors. The three "satin finish" colors are all 1 color spray applied colors. The three "antique finish" colors utilize a faux-finish application of color over a black base coat.

Repairs for severe damage due to exposure to excessive water, salt water or corrosive chemicals, or any ofther misuse should be carried out by a professional.

ThermaPlus Door Finishing & Maintenance Information Maintenance and Troubleshooting Maintenance: This is a steel faced door with 100% composite edges on all sides. If a GlassCraft composite jamb system is used, then all materials are composite. No maintenance is necessary other than occasional touching up of the steel if the steel face of the door or the wrought iron grille (if applicable) are scratched, or installed in a salt-water environment.

Rust: The door is finished with a top-quality finish system to inhibit the formation of rust on both the surface of the door as well as on the wrought iron grilles. The doors are not warranted against rusting if scratched or installed near a salt-water environment. If rust is visible, you should sand the rusted area with 400 grit sandpaper. And then re-finish according to the guidelines on page 9.

Binding or Sticking of the Door: Ensure that the door(s) continues to swing freely, does not bind in the frame, and that all hardware remains completely functional. First check to ensure that all hinge screws are securely fastened and secure. If the door continues to stick or bind in the door frame, sand the edge of the door (use an electric sander or a hand plane) to trim the door so that it does not bind or stick. Be sure to refinished the newly sanded exposed area.

Cleaning the Door: Cleaning of the door is best performed by simply dusting the interior and exterior of the door using a soft, clean cloth. If required, a very mild soap and water solution may be needed to remove dirt from the door. Do not use any abrasive detergent or solvent based product, as these products will harm the quality of the finish. DO NOT use a water blaster to clean your door. Do not use any solvent to clean the door.

ThermaPlus Door Finishing & Maintenance Information Installation Notes: Trimming Edges, beveling, hinge pockets: All ThermaPlus doors may be trimmed to ensure a good fit into the jamb. The doors are produced to allow trimming of 1/4 inch maximum on the 2 long edges and the top edge. Do not trim more than this amount, or you will hit the steel face of the door. You may use standard wood-working tools to trim these edges, such as a powered saw or a wood plane or sander.

The door edge may be beveled, but do not remove more than 1/4" in this process.

The door edge should also be prepped for your hinges. We suggest using only 4 inch or larger ball-bearing hinges, and at least 3 hinges for a 80 inch tall door and 4 hinges for a 96 inch door. Be sure to not remove more than 1/4 inch when prepping the door for the hinges.

Door edges do not have to be refinished after trimming, as the edges are all composite, and are waterproof. However, you may paint the edges after trimming if you wish. Paint colors listed on page 9.

Boring: To bore holes in the door for your door hardware, make sure that your drill bit is rated for use with metal.

Hinges and Screws used: ThermaPlus doors are very heavy, and the installer of the door into a home must use the correct hardware and fasteners in order for the door to be problem-free. It is essential that the door hinges be heavy-duty ball-bearing hinges...we suggest a weight rating of at least 200 pounds per hinge pair. Use 4 hinges for 8 foot tall doors and at least 3 hinges for 6-8 tall doors. Hinges must be mounted with long screw fasteners in order to correctly secure and hold the door. We suggest using wood screws that are at least 3 inches long to hold the hinge plate onto the edge of the door. Use screws of equal or longer length to affix the hinge through the jamb leg and into the wall framing. It is up to the installer to ensure that the hardware choices and installation methods are correct and proper to ensure a functioning and safe door installation.
