Glass Panel Product Information

Construction Specifications of Glass Panels 1) GlassCraft designs and constructs all our decorative glass panels to be as trouble-free as possible. As we design all of our own decorative glass panels, we pay particular attention to designing the product to be as strong and break or crack-resistant as is possible. No one wants problem “call backs,” so we attempt to design problems out of the product. 2) The glass used in our Steel, Fiberglass and Wood doors and sidelites and DecoGlass windows meets or exceeds the new 2011 Consumer Product Safety Commission Requirements for Safety Glazing in Architectural Entries and the International Residential Code® for One and Two Family Dwellings section R308 Glazing Guidelines. All glass panels are in compliance with the CPSC 16 CFR 1201 requirements. 3) Our triple thick IG decorative glass panels are produced with Insulated Glass construction using a patented “flexible spacer” technology. Not only does this IG process provide a clean look to the door panel, but it actually adds additional cushioning to the glass panel upon installation into the door. In addition, our door and sidelite IG panels include tempered safety glass on both sides. (Transom panels are not required by safety code guidelines to utilize tempered safety glass in their construction, and our transom glass units may not include tempered glass). Using IG glass panels in our doors and sidelites allows for easier cleaning, energy efficiency, and more security.

Decorative glass panels that incorporate leaded glass are three layers thick. Other panels, such as the beveled panels in the TDL and SDL Doors and the textured glass panels in our wrought iron doors are two layers thick.

4) Upon installation, glass panels are mounted into the door, sidelite or transom using structural silicone sealant. This sealant provides several benefits, including a straight, black sight line, and excellent weatherproof seal, and a further cushion for the glass panel to absorb the shock of a door slam. 5) Our Divided Lite (TDL and SDL) Doors and Wrought Iron Doors (both wood and fiberglass) use standard aluminum spacer and butyl “hot melt” rubber IG technology in the glass panels installed in these doors. 6) Our Mahogany and Knotty Alder Hardwood GBG and Wrought Iron doors, the Buffalo Forge Steel Doors® series and the Premium Fiberglass Series offer various textured glass options for the double-thickness glass panels. See the page 4 for more information on these glass texture options. 7) Most of our leaded glass panel designs and wrought iron panel designs are proprietary to GlassCraft Door Company. Created by our design department, these unique designs have been specifically designed for exterior door installations, and include design and construction features that minimize the potential for breakage and damage during transport and after installation. The designs have been registered with the US Library of Congress, and have been awarded individual copyright registration numbers.

These panel designs may not be reproduced in any form whatsoever, including glass panels or for use in other catalogs, flyers, advertisements, on a web site, etc., without the specific written consent of GlassCraft Door Company. GlassCraft Door Company has in the past successfully defended our ownership of these designs in court, and has been awarded large settlements by the infringing companies. GlassCraft will continue to vigorously defend our ownership of these designs.

8) Our glass panels used in our Impact-Rated Entryways utilize Polyvinyl Butyral or PVB as a laminated protective layer in the insulated glass unit. This material is superior to other laminating materials due to its strong binding, optical clarity, toughness and flexibility. This PVB material is laminated to 2 sheets of glass to provide a strong impact barrier layer. These panels have been tested and approved by a certified independant testing laboratory. They have been approved by the State of Florida and the State of Texas for use in windstorm areas. Quite simply, no one, absolutely no one in the millwork industry builds a better decorative panel for their doors.
