The Best Model Magazine in Oklahoma. Have you ever had a dream at night that served as an epitome to a longing unanswered question? Dreams are very vivid and sometimes the answers we yearn for are found in our dreams. My dream consists of the Glass Hat Magazine becoming the number one model magazine in Oklahoma. Many questions enter into my mind that I seek a legitimate response to. How is the GHM going to be the best model magazine in Oklahoma? What are the strategies the GHM will use to go from a good magazine to the best magazine in Oklahoma? Who is the GHM top rival? How long will the GHM be able to hold the title of being the best model magazine in Oklahoma? What are the credentials that define being the best model magazine in Oklahoma? Imagine a paintbrush that is soft, small, and delicate. A painter is considered an individual who is meticulous and has the ability to paint objects, humans, and animals in the best setting. Each stroke the painter uses tells a story and the final product he/she creates is a masterpiece. The GHM has a special gift like a painter’s paintbrush because each month our goal is to have the best ideas in Oklahoma. Please take some time and check us out on Facebook at (http://www.facebook.com/ glasshatmag) and also tell your friends to visit our website at (www.glasshatmag.com). The painter is a visionary and the vision of the GHM is very simple. The magazine will continue to grow and in order for us to grow in the right direction, we need a large amount of supporters and fans to subscribe to the magazine. Don’t be a blank painting on a canvas and get a paint brush and make a commitment to the GHM. Nathaniel Goodwin CEO/President

Glass Hat Kaylee Michelle Chief Operations Officer

Glass Hat not only wants to welcome you to a new and provocatively improved magazine, we also want to welcome a provocatively new COO. And even though she may argue with you that it stands for Cocksmoker obdurately Oenophilia we will continue to label her our Chief Operations Officer – although we’re more than proud to have a cocksmoker as part of our staff (go ahead, take a second to look it up). Raise your glasses and give a warm welcome to Kaylee Michelle! She will be joining forces with our CEO/President, Clark Kent, to take Glass Hat in a new, fun, interesting, and some may say progressive direction. Kaylee has been in the modeling industry for the last 3 years and has more than 10 years of writing experience. We’ll have her doing a lot more than writing, but she hopes to publish some “stimulating” articles for us soon! Although we were drawn to her initially based on her looks we soon realized she’s not just pretty - she’s pretty talented! And even better, she has a true heart for the fashion, photography, and art industry. If you get the pleasure of meeting her we promise you’ll quickly fall in love with her spirit just as much as her smile. She comes from a small town in Oklahoma and besides carrying herself with confidence she also carries herself with Oklahoma pride and down home hospitality with a side of badass instead of fried taters; although she does love some southern food! She told us she appreciates good food and can’t say no to a man or woman who knows how to cook. And yes she IS single! Good luck trying to win her heart though; she will certainly win yours over first as she did ours! We have a lot of plans for Kaylee at Glass Hat Mag! Above all, we are excited to have her amazing eye for new talent. Although she will be working closely on many projects and aspects of each issue, Kaylee said she is most looking forward to heading the new “Model of the Month” section which features new men and women interested in getting started in the modeling industry. Stay plugged-in to our Facebook page as well as our Twitter for updates on our new COO!

modeling is something she would love to do as it would allow her to express herself through picture in multiple forms (ballet, abstract, etc.). As far as commercials are concerned, she feels she has a great smile and would have fun doing any type of toothpaste commercials. Her dream is to be the next Crest smile. The most memorable shoot she had was this year. The photographer was Aaron Lacy, located in Huntsville, AL. They did a body paint photoshoot for the Superbowl and her top half was painted in Ray Allen’s colors. It was such a great experience for her and she would love to do more bodypaint.

A Healthy New Beginning: Modeling tips for a new model Fitness Series Part 1

Imagine you are in a situation where you booked a fitness shoot and you want to look your best but are not sure what to do. Time is not your best friend and you have one month before you have to get in-front of the camera to perform. Modeling is not as easy as most people think it is. The long hours spent preparing for a shoot is just as important as the actual shoot. Today is your lucky day because I am going to give you some tips to help calm your nerves, so you can look your best at your fitness photo shoot. The first thing to realize is most paid gigs go to models who are well known and are easy accessible. When I pronounce accessible, I mean models that are well established, prepared, and continually work on their bodies. Working out one time a week and expecting to be on the Cover of ESPN is unrealistic. The name of the game is durability. All new models start at the bottom and have to work their way up to the top. This is the primary reason why many new models get burned out and decide modeling is not for them. The mentality new models should develop is modeling is for fun and if payment is available for their modeling services; then it’s an extra bonus. The truth is modeling is a very competitive industry and as good as you think you are there is always someone better than you around the corner. The models that you see in prominent magazines have all put in their time and have experienced some form of rejection before they got their big break. Now that I got all the semantics out of the way, I will give you tips that will help make you more productive as a new model. The following things listed below are crucial things that a new model needs to do before any shoot: Diet, Exercise, Skin-Care, Rest, and Network. I call it DESRN for short and it sounds way cooler than spelling it out completely. Dieting is probably the hardest concept for most people to grasp because dieting is not fun. Nobody wants to cut calories dramatically because it’s convenient to eat fast food. Radical dieting also causes a person to be moody. I can tell you from my personal experience,

when I start dieting, I transform into the “Angry Wolverine” and I am constantly in bad moods. I had the tendency to grow claws and stab anything that was in my path because I developed the mutant gene. Hopefully, for most people the Wolverine syndrome will not take over your life and you will not experience unwarranted side effects. People have different genetic make ups, so each person will deal with dieting differently. The best way to explain this concept is to devise a workout routine that allows you to burn more calories than you consume food. For example, if you consume 1000 calories a day and your workout at the gym allows you to burn 1,500 calories, you will lose weight naturally because you are eating less and working out more. I strongly do not recommend limiting your body to consuming 1000 calories a day because your body needs a certain amount of nutrients/substances daily to produce energy. The energy you need to use will be compensated and you could get headaches and pass out before you work out. The best attack to losing weight is to eat healthy snacks (apples, oranges, bananas) and stay away from greasy food (no pizza, hamburgers, or fried chicken) and eat before 9pm. Healthy food choices will allow your body to consume energy and eating dinner before 9pm will allow your metabolism to slow down accordingly. If you do not know how to calculate how much calories you need to consume daily, I recommend speaking with a personal trainer, so they can provide you accurate information to help reinforce your cause. Exercising is fun because a person has the freedom to mix up their exercise routines each week. The key is to make sure that you figure out a routine that matches your fitness goals. Do you want to get lean? Do you want to get stronger? Do you want to get killer abs? All these questions should be answered before you make your debut in the gym. Here is example of a workout I created that you can use your first day on a new path to a better body.

Day 1: 15 minutes warming up (stretching, jogging on treadmill, jump rope) and make sure to get your heart rate up, so that you can use your muscles properly. 20 minutes of arm exercises 1. 20 Push ups, 20 bicep curls (choose truthful weight that can be done without a physical strain on form), 20 triceps extension, and 20 bench dips. Do this in a circuit rotation and do not rest more then 2 minute. If you are in great shape, then you can cut the rest time down to 30 seconds. 20 minutes of leg exercises 2. 20 body squats (use dumbbells if you feel body weight squats is too easy), 20 lunges (10 lunges on right leg and 10 on the left leg). For the lunges, if you are in great shape try performing jumping alternative lunges with weights for a more intense workout. 20 calf raises, and finally 20 hamstring curls on a medicine ball. Do this in a circuit rotation and make sure that you do not rest more then 1 minute and 30 second. Leg exercises are more challenging, so you need more time to recovery. 10 minutes of abdominal exercises 50 crunches, 50 toe touches, 50 Russian twists (use dumbbells if you are a more advanced exerciser), and 1 minute plank hold (If you have a strong core, add left and right side planks into your workout to get a total abs workout. Exercising and dieting can be fun when you get great results. This is a 2 part series, so next month, I will discuss skin care, rest, and networking in my article. In the mean time, “The Sky is the Limit” and do not be scared to be a great model.

A man said to be without, is without truth. It It It It

a bitter taste upon my tongue. my lungs exploding from hyperventilating. the thumping of a pulse. two balls rolling around my palms.

It It It It

an unopened letter from the doctor. the uncertainty of a phone ringing. a phobia that has its roots wrapped around bones. watching an intimate act through open blinds.

a first date, first kiss, first dinner with parents. the spotlight of a solo. holding a first born baby. time ticking and a blank page.

It is staring at the moving earth beneath you and It is the knowledge only fabric will save your life. It is knowing that one day an “I love you” will be the last. It is feeling a man’s energy flow unsteadily into your arms. A man said to be without, is without truth.

I’m an Oklahoma grown girl. I got started in modeling when I was 4 years old. I won Little Miss Jr. Oklahoma, and began modeling for J.Ballard doing runway & print. I stopped modeling when I was about 10 years old. I knew I was destined for modeling when every time my parents had a camera out, I would ham it up and be the center of attention! I just recently got back into modeling, and it’s been nothing but a dream come true! I’m currently 21 years old. I live in Oklahoma City with my husband Charles MacDonald, and our 2 cats, Opie and Ink, and our Basset Hound Whiskey. A typical day for me is going to work, and squeezing in every single photo shoot that I can! I’ve been working really hard to launch my modeling career. White on Black was inspired by the photographer & me, because it captures more raw natural expression rather than a color picture. I want to capture who I am, rather than the outfit I’m wearing for it. I want you to be able to feel the emotions and read a story, rather than looking at just another face or just another outfit. I’m extremely outgoing, and very driven to achieve my goals, although I haven’t always been that way. When I was younger, I was teased about how skinny and tiny I was. I was told I would never amount to anything and that no modeling agency would ever want me. I remember coming home every single night and crying to my mom about how nobody at school liked me. It was a rough patch I went through in my life, and it continued all the way through high school. After high school I finally blossomed up and grew into my body & who I was. I’m nothing like the girl I use to be. I’m full of confidence, friends, amazing opportunities, and I’m still skinny but just better looking. What I’m doing when I’m not modeling, I work every day of the week. The dreaded 8-6 job, but most days I absolutely love my job. I’m a part time receptionist and a part time PreKindergarten Teacher. My passion thrives when I work with children. I’ve always loved working with children since I was young. I’ve been a babysitter for as long as I can remember. When I was finally old enough to get a job, my first job was at Easter Seals Oklahoma. We work with children & adults with disabilities. My goal when my kids graduate Pre-K each year is that they have a sense of accomplishment, and know who they are. I believe no matter how young or old you are, if you believe in these

children they will believe in you and ultimately believe in themselves. I’m sure you’ve noticed all my tattoos and piercings. I’m definitely not your typical model. I love modifying my body and I see no harm in doing so. I’ve got over 15 tattoos, and over 10 piercings. It’s a great way for me to express who I am and every tattoo or piercing is a reflection of myself. When I say I’m not your typical model I mean: I don’t care how tall I am, or how skinny I am. I will continue to get tattoos & piercings, and I will continue doing crazy things to my hair. It’s who I am. I’ve dyed my hair crazy colors since middle school. I’ve literally had every single color in my hair, and it’s always a different color or style. I thrive on being different from anyone else, I like to stand out from the crowd, and I don’t mind the stares or whispers. I am who I am and I’m never going to change

that. I love being the more alternative edgy model. I don’t believe in being stick thin to keep your agency representing you. I don’t believe in starving yourself to look skinnier. I believe in being who you are and not caring what anyone thinks! I owe a huge thank you to my parents Paula & Clovis, for always sticking by my side no matter what, through the good times & the awful times. A big thank you to my middle school sweetheart and husband Charles for always supporting me through all the photo shoots and the time it has taken away from us. A huge thank you to Larry Jacobs of LAJ Studios for being a mentor to me, and explaining how this industry GlassHatMag.com

works and what to, and not do. And of course huge thank you to Haylee Lawes for being one amazing makeup artist, hairstylist, and best friend. I wouldn’t be able to achieve any of this without all of your help! I have one of the best support systems a woman could have. All in all I can honestly say you’ll never find another person like me, but I dare you to try.

Hi! My name is Lauren Pierce, I’m 100% new to the modeling world, but I know I’m meant for the industry because I’m 100% comfortable in front of the camera. It may have something to do with being comfortable around people but I believe it’s more than that. About four years ago I became very interested in the industry; it’s been a dream of mine to be a model ever since, I just wasn’t sure what direction to go. I still remember as a child looking at images in magazines; admiring the beauty and emotional expressions the models were able to express through just one photo. I feel like I see more in a photo than most people see; I immediately am drawn to the poses, posture, eyes, and emotion – beyond the advertisement or clothing. There always seemed to be a story behind every picture and I dreamed of the day where I could create my own story. A picture really can be worth a thousand words. Like a lot of girls, there were several things holding me back from perusing my dream. It think a lot of us deal with insecurities and for me, the fact that I didn’t feel comfortable with myself was one of the biggest things holding me back. I continued to put off trying. I thought I could take more time to “perfect” my image. I know another thing holding me back was the people who approached me with opportunities; I never felt they were genuine or trustworthy propositions - until I came across Kaylee Michelle with Glass Hat Magazine. I was still a little in disbelief when Kaylee approached me, could the moment I’ve dreamed of finally be coming true? It happened so quickly that I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it, but maybe that’s how it should be – I was taking a risk and about to have an adventure I’d never forget. The photo shoot was amazing; I was completely impressed and also excited about how comfortable I was. I was actually comfortable in my own skin and facing my fear! But it wasn’t scary. I was relaxed throughout the whole process. I’m sure part of it contributed to Kaylee who was there for the sole purpose to cheer me on and assure me everything was going to be alright – specifically letting me know the photographer wasn’t going to be a creep and I was going to be safe. It was just me, Kaylee, and the photographer, Allan Ciche of Subtle Shades. He was far from creepy and even though I haven’t been a part of a photo shoot I’d say he was nothing but encouraging and professional. The shoot lasted just over an hour and both Kaylee and Allan were there to coach me. I felt relaxed and had a lot of fun! It was definitely more work than I had realized though. I have respect for models and hope that I will be given the opportunity to expand my own portfolio and future in the industry. Above all I enjoyed being able to express myself on camera and having the support of my friends and family encouraging me every step of the way has made this experience that much sweeter. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be not to have my Dad right by my side as he’s always been. A lot of girls are raised by amazing single moms, I happen to be raised by an amazing single Dad (hint to the ladies)! This has been a dream come true. Modeling is a beautiful thing, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds – anything is possible!

Duncan Photography. Without our wonderful photographers and videographers we would not be able to do a lot of the amazing work we can do. It is a true blessing to work the many talented local Photographers we have here. With all the amazing things in Oklahoma left unseen or undiscovered we find a passion in getting the word out there to those who may not have known it was there. We have worked with lots of great local bands, Artists, and business in the past year. Back in November 2012 when we first started The Mistresses of Mayhem Unique Artistry and promotions we didn’t have a clue where we were going to start or how we would make it happen. Finally our first band Interview was in December with the guys from Everybody Panic and that first interview kick started a motion that hasn’t stopped rolling since. Through the past nine months we have grown and learned so much about our communities as well as each other. We are ever-improving and always willing to learn and adjust, where necessary. Mistresses of Mayhem’s work with charities is ever-growing. We had a car wash in May for (B.A.C.A) Bikers Against Child Abuse in which we raised over a hundred dollars and back in June we had a benefit concert for The Freidriechs Ataxia Research Alliance (F.A.R.A) called Mayhem and Madness for Muscular Dystrophy. Mayhem and Madness for Muscular Dystrophy was planned in honor of a 17 year old girl from Purcell, Oklahoma named Emily Rogez . Emily has a form of Muscular Dystrophy called Freidriechs Ataxia. We raised nearly $1,000.00 during the show. With appearances by Electric

Witchcraft, Foreign Contaminant, Another Texas Murder Scene, Day of Tragedy, Zerotheist, and A Dying Art. It was a lineup absolutely irresistible to local Metal fans. We have many more upcoming events and charities, so keep your eyes and ears open for updates. Find us on Facebook to see our modeling work or to suggest a local Artist, Band, or Business you would like to see us promote or if you are interested in having us promote your local business, band, or charity event. The Mistresses of Mayhem are deeply rooted in our tattoo community as well and have several Mistresses who are covered with local ink. The Mistresses of Mayhem worked with Lead Sled Devils

Tattoos out of Oklahoma City during both charity events and was featured in the LSD Commercials earlier this spring. Matt Hammonds Tattoos sponsors our website; which you can reach through the link on mattewtat2.com or by going to MOMUAP. com. Among the many types of Art we like to promote, one of our favorites is the art we wear every day. As a part of a strong community we are proud to support our artists in any way we can, even when it hurts a little bit! Last fall we did some promotional work with Ken Hall of Hall of Tattoos. They were actually the first studio to sponsor towards our t-shirt funds. Diamond Tattoos out of Norman Oklahoma also gave

us their time and allowed us to record some awesome videos of their work. We had a blast going out and promoting those guys. We plan to work with many others and can’t wait to show you all the talented Artists here in Oklahoma! Not only do we promote our local Artistry but the Art of Food as well. Full Moon Sushi out of Norman Oklahoma did an amazing job during our interview and even had us out helping during the Norman Music Fest last year. We absolutely fell in love with the people and delicious cuisine that is Full Moon Sushi Bar and Bistro. The owner Alitha Bean actually donated a beautiful painting of hers to the Art Auction during the Mayhem and Madness

It’s Not So Bad, Doing By Daniel Shirley

Nights are the worst When the cacophony of existence dies down and the quiet begins its subtle encroachment into your head, creeping up behind all your tasks and your obligations, your musings and concerns, stealing the conversations and connections, the ideas, the laughter, and the lessons learned. Every mundane task completed or postponed. Every hello. Every goodbye. Sneaking up behind every single second of your day and smothering them one by one by one by one. Until nothing is left but the hollow, empty ringing between your ears. And sometime in that awful demon silence that may last ten minutes or forty - or an hour or three You are expected to close your eyes and trust. Trust that the people you depend on will come back to love you tomorrow, that the goals you have made will survive the night unscathed. And trust, most of all, that murderous silence to stand by, doing nothing, holding its terrible deadly nature in check while you close your eyes, release your awareness, And under its vigilant, damning stare, trust it just naively enough to sleep. What is your name and where are you from? Hi, I’m Misti and I’m from Cleveland, Oklahoma, which is about 45 minutes West of Tulsa. How long have you been modeling and how did you get started? I’ve been modeling since 2009, and what got me started. I was actually a custodian at Cleveland High School, and two girls were fighting in the MMA. I used to lift weights in the school since I worked there, and the two girls wanted me to fight with them, and I was teasing them and said I just wanted to be a ring card girl. They entered me into a contest in Tulsa, and I actually won! So I became a ring girl in 2009, and photographers saw me and I did a few shoots for some local calendars, and that’s kind of where it went from there.

Is modeling your full time job currently, or do you do something else? Right now I’m just modeling on the side. My full time job is dental assisting. I love it and I’m going to school for dental hygiene. Right now I’m enrolled at Rose State, but I’m transferring to Tulsa Community College because it’s a lot closer.

“I think muscle tone on a woman is beautiful.”

Do you have any big goals or aspirations with your modeling? I’ve just started an awesome workout and new diet because I would like to do some fitness shoots. I think muscle tone on a woman is beautiful. I would like to appear in Maxim magazine. Victoria secret would be fun too! Who are some of the photographers you’ve worked with? I’ve worked with Amanda Tyler, and then I worked with Joseph Garza, and now I’ve had the chance to work with you! GlassHatMag.com

What sort of hobbies do you have? I actually like the outdoors a lot. I like to go swimming and riding 4-wheelers. I enjoy anything outdoorsy. I enjoy camping and going to the lake and I like to just relax under the stars. I think it’s nice. And I really like bowling and going to the movies. Are there any famous models or celebrities you really look up to? I absolutely love Marissa Miller. She is so beautiful! I also love Sandra Bullock. There’s a new movie out called Heat that I want to see. Do you have anything else you’d like to add? Just that I’m looking forward to working with you some more! 40

“I’m afraid my madness will manifest as paradise” (Mimmis) By Katrina Williams The weeks and weeks of torment has Begun to lead to an accumulation Of files and files to separate Stacks upon stacks of trees Litter my mind and yet the Inbox continues to still receive mail One more thought, one more paper Will knock me into a state of chaos The things around me are like Nails on the chalkboard Scratching the inside of my grey matter It is not a normal state of being, But one that occasionally finds me Wrapping itself around like a boa Squeezing its prey This warped sense of state Distracts me from where I long to lie Despite the anarchy residing My body copes to not let it have control The mouth spits nonverbal complaints The limbs twitch and creep The urges build and build Until only screams are heard For the miles of neurons enclosed Within the shell I call a body Soon it reaches an elevation of Disorder that can only be a beauty call paradise. What once was peaceful Has changed to detest I longed for the knowledge but now I am in shutdown

GRACE By Daniel Shirley Blood must be shed, a sacrifice made. Noah’s people; Goliath; Uzza, for trying to steady the Ark. Lot’s wife. The wicked and the disobedient, the careless and the unmindful. And the boy, so intimate with the Law, degreed in the doctrine of untimely death, a master of his myriad flaws, ten small years old, wrestles with “Why?” Why She, and not he, was appointed to die. She, anointed and sainted by all who knew Her, the center of his tiny universe, source of his breath, creator of his body, giver of life. Goddess. Perfect. Everyone speaks in hushed euphemisms of God’s reasons for calling Her home – reasons wise and just and just as unknowable. But certainly not as punishment for Her sins. They all agree on that. Not as punishment for HER sins. No. Clearly, she was offered as an unblemished sacrifice. Offered for the errors of her progeny the Goddess Mother dying as proxy for her inconstant little boy.

Hi guys, my name is Kris. I am a 25 year-old, all American-made, country girl! I graduated from a small town in Oklahoma in 2006. Before I tell you more about me and my love for modeling, I want to thank the one that got me to where I am today, my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. If it wasn’t for him, none of this would be possible! Next to him, the one person who has helped, encouraged, pushed, supported and loved me from the start is my amazing husband. He reminds me on a daily basis how beautiful and blessed I am and I want to thank him for that. I am fairly new to modeling; I have only been modeling for about a year now and love most of it. It all started in front of my husband’s Galaxy S2. Of course he loved being my photographer, so he got promoted to just shooting whenever he wants. I have been interested in modeling ever since I saw the first Americas Next Top

Model on TV when I was younger. So of course Tyra Banks was my number one role model growing up, that is, until Mr. Kevin Camp shared a video of Coco Rocha and I watched her in action; then I quickly became a big fan. I love the way she is free and fun in all her shoots and still gets those amazing shots! I try to be the same way. I like to have fun at my shoots or at any promotional work I might do. I’m pretty easy going and like working with and meeting new photographers and models. I haven’t gotten to work with many other models, but would love to! I have worked with some of the greatest photographers in Oklahoma - in my eyes. I take something new from each shoot to help improve my techniques, poses, and ideals. One thing I love about photographers is how they are not afraid to tell you the truth up front about your pictures or your pose. I believe that each photographer and model is a team. It

takes teamwork to make a shoot turn out; if one is not giving their best it makes them both look bad. Just like with every job, there are the good and the bad that come with it. Of course you can probably guess some of these points with being a model, getting rejected, made fun of, exposed in the wrong way, exposed a good way, getting complements, and meeting awesome new people. One of my most obvious features is my body type, but my favorite feature is my smile. I am interested in doing commercial and promotional modeling. I would love do runway, but 54

I am only 5’5 and we can’t all be a tall beauty. I’ve recently became a model for Raw Talent Clothing Co. with Chuck Rogers. I have yet to do any promotional work other then with RTC. I would love to do charity events to help raise money to help organizations. I will be a part of a charity fashion show called Sugar Hips and Vault Denim on Saturday September 14, 2013 from 2-6pm at Studio360 in Norman to raise money for the City Mission and Rescue.

passionate about it. It’s not going to be just another calendar with a bunch of topless women in it. It is targeting all points of Breast Cancer, the survivors, the comforters, the supporters, the fallen, and even the men. I have very high expectations for this calendar in hopes to do a couple others in smaller versions. All the proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Research Foundation. It’s going to have some great girls in it and an awesome man which just happens to be my hubby! I have found a great photographer. His name is Andreas Werner and his beautiful wife Mandy from Tulsa. They are awesome photographers and people! So be watching for the release of this amazing calendar towards the end of 2013! 58
