Help fight Motor Neurone Disease

‘Drag’ yourself along to support Jared’s fundraiser

Inspired by the work of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association of Queensland and in tribute to his good friend and indefatigable community advocate Joyce Newton OAM, who sadly died late last year from the disease, Jared Ashcroft is on a fundraising mission.

As reported in GC&M News last month, Jared is participating in the Bridge to Brisbane race in late August with his efforts earmarked to support MND. To date, through the generous support of local community members and businesses, he is well on his way to achieving his revised goal of $5,000 for the MND Association.

Jared took his fundraising efforts to the recent Maleny Show and was thrilled to raise a whopping $833.60 from contributions to a donation tin. To date he has raised $4,283.87 and hopes his next MND fundraising venture at the Maleny Showgrounds pavilion will also be well supported by the community.

On Saturday, August 17, Jared has invited Melony’s Drag Queen Bingo to host a special MND fundraiser event. Featuring the cheeky comic genius of Melony Brests and her gal pal Sall Monalla, the event promises a hysterical night of comedy, drag shows, raffles, crazy prizes and more - all towards the MND cause. Entry is $20, with bingo books available for $10 or $5 for half. Doors open at 6.30pm and the balls drop at 7.30pm. The 18+ event will also have a cash bar and bookings are available online at www.ticketebo.com.au/bingo4mnd.

If you can’t make it along on the night you can pop into Mitre 10 Maleny and grab yourself a raffle ticket for $2. First prize is a wheelbarrow full of goodies valued over $600 and second prize is an accommodation package valued at $370.

If you would like to support Jared in the lead up to his Bridge to Brisbane effort, you can also go to the everyday hero website and search for Jared Ashcroft to donate. Some of the local business and community groups that have donated include Mitre 10 Maleny $500, Rotary Maleny $200, Michael and the team at the Bank of Queensland Maleny $200 and Greg Newton and family $750.
