Well done, TS Centaur

TS Centaur achieves!

What a fantastic end to the financial year for TS Centaur, the Australian Navy Reserve cadet unit based in Maleny. The cadets were pleasantly surprised when they received a recent phone call to say they would be getting a new safety boat to replace their current 20-year-old tinnie.

The photograph shows just how pleased the cadets were to receive it. Being a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB), it will be a much easier task if they need to recover cadets from the water.

Now they need more local youths to join them and benefit from this generous acquisition.

TS Centaur was also selected as Best Unit in the Daring Flotilla for the 2018-19 year. The Daring Flotilla consists of 10 cadet units spread from Bribie to Rockhampton, so this is quite an achievement.

TS Centaur had been Best in Flotilla for three consecutive years when they were part of the Sunshine Coast Flotilla that consisted of only five cadet units.

It is especially relevant to Linda and Eddie Vann, the commanding officer and executive officer of TS Centaur, as they will both be retiring at the end of this year.

The unit is in desperate need of replacement staff and would especially welcome any ex-service personnel able to take over this rewarding role of training the youth of Maleny and district to become better citizens and provide ceremonial support to the Maleny RSL.

It is not necessary to be ex Defence to apply, just a desire to work with young people aged 13-17 years and to train them to utilise maritime themes. Training and support will be available during the initial phases.

If you think you can assist or are a young person wishing to join TS Centaur contact Lieutenant Linda Vann at co.tscentaur@navycadets.gov.au or call 0402 060 050.
