NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH by Lally Katz presented by Stooged Theatre A charming tale of an odd couple – proving it is never too late to bridge the divide between age, culture and the suburban fence. Ana lives alone with her dog and it’s hard to say who is snappier. At eighty years of age, this widowed Hungarian émigré has no time for niceties. She does have time, though, for her young neighbour Catherine. Ana guides Catherine into her past: exploring the mess of war, grief and the excitement of past love. As Ana passes on her wisdom to Catherine, Catherine also guides Ana to find forgiveness.

Neighbourhood Watch is a heart-warming comedy that inspires us to explore and find the extraordinary stories that lie within our community. About Stooged Theatre: Stooged Theatre is Newcastle’s leading independent theatre company, staging challenging contemporary texts and high-quality productions.

It was a transformative and immersive experience … an invaluable experience for those studying the play at a HSC level. Louisa Newton, drama teacher, Lakes Grammar

OPERA AUSTRALIA CHILDREN’S CHORUS & MUSIC WORKSHOPS Experience the magic of a curtain call…

The 2018 Regional Children’s Chorus program gives 20 children aged between 9 and 14 years in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region the chance to perform as the Chorus in Opera Australia’s touring regional production, to be announced 1 February 2018. Children will audition and then train with a local choir leader. On the day of the performance, children rehearse onstage with the professional cast and orchestra, then perform in costume that night. Side by side with some of Opera Australia’s finest singers, the Children's Chorus will feel the magic of live theatre performance. Through the rehearsal and performance process, children also gain a wider understanding of opera, which we hope sparks interest in future artistic pursuits. There will also be auditions available for the Opera Australia Student Scholarship. Opera Australia are touring with a range of musical instruments and workshops can be developed for specific interests – including flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, 5 strings or a conductor’s workshop. Please indicate your interest on the booking form.

Circus Oz presents

MODEL CITIZENS Circus Oz explodes back on stage in their latest high octane show Model Citizens.

Model Citizens seamlessly blends breathtaking physical improbability with theatricality, choreography and Circus Oz’s distinct brand of Australian humour. Stunningly lit and driven by a sensational live music soundtrack, Model Citizens unfolds within a cleverly designed model-kit world that challenges perspective, scale and concepts of normality. Acrobats will back-flip off a giant vertical clothes peg, become tangled in an oversized cotton reel, balance on a house of oversized collapsing cards and fly high in an enormous pair of aerial undies! Exposing circus skills in unconventional ways, Model Citizens presents stunning group acrobatics with a twist. Model Citizens explores what it really means to be a model citizen in today’s ‘model kit’ society.

JOSEPHINE WANTS TO DANCE Based on the book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley Josephine is a kangaroo – who loves to dance. When a ballet troupe comes to Shaggy Gully Josephine learns that there is another way to dance – ballet. Josephine sneaks into town to watch the dancers rehearse. Then she goes home and practices until she knows the dance by heart. When the ballet company’s prima ballerina twists her ankle and the understudy has a splinter in her toe, Josephine is called upon to help save the day. Can she do it, and more importantly, does it matter that she's a kangaroo? This uplifting, humorous tale is a celebration of passion, tenacity and individuality.

Our actors give you a dedicated performance every time and your best behaviour is the greatest way to show your respect and appreciation! To make sure everyone in the audience and on the stage has a good time, we ask you to ensure that your students:

• laugh but don’t chat • listen and don’t text, tweet or call (turn off their mobile and iPod) • be on the edge of their seat but not in anyone else’s (or the aisle!) • take home a great experience but don’t take photographs • write notes later or they might miss something magical • bring a hunger for knowledge but don’t bring food or drink into the theatre

SUE HEALEY: EN ROUTE En Route is a meditation on time and life-lines, dancers aged 3-102 years, traverse abandoned railway lines of NSW. Originally commissioned by Transport for NSW – for the Wynscreen project at Wynyard train Station Sydney – this work has been re-configured for gallery spaces. About Sue Healey: Born in New Zealand in 1962, Sue Healey is a performer, choreographer, educator and dance-film maker. Healey’s practice extends beyond the traditional venues for dance with iterations of her projects staged in gallery settings as live performance elements within multimedia installations. As the creator of film and video projects Healy’s works have been widely exhibited and screened both within Australia and in international festivals, touring programs, online and on broadcast television. S EC ON DA RY WHAT A LIFE! ROCK PHOTOGRAPHY BY TONY MOTT Australia’s premier rock photographer, Tony Mott, has captured all aspects of the rock’n’roll lifestyle through his camera lens. An untrained photographer, he got his break with a photograph of Chrissy Amphlett, lead singer of Divinyls. Mott went on to have over 30,000 photographs published in 20 countries and his images have appeared on 400 posters and the covers of 500 CDs and more than 900 magazines. Mott was the photographer bands asked for and his portfolio features everyone from the Rolling Stones to members of the local independent band scene. From candid portraits to awe-inspiring live shots, Mott has a unique ability to connect with his subject.
