Jason Wing

The Presence of Absence The Presence of Absence is a new exhibition by Sydney-based artist Jason Wing, who strongly identifies with his Chinese and Aboriginal Biripi heritage. This exhibition was developed during his residency at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery in June. Wing has reinterpreted old and new work in response to his recent visit to Port Macquarie. Wing explored the Glasshouse’s heritage, archaeological displays and artefacts collection dating from the 1820s, to investigate the dual history of Port Macquarie and how this intersection resonates. Wing’s exhibition The Presence of Absence explores the intersection of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people regarding land management In the Port Macquarie and wider regions.

INHABITING SPACE A contemporary jewellery exhibition curated by Dr Elizabeth Shaw Inhabiting Space features works from three contemporary jewellers, Rebecca Ward (Maleny, QLD), Clare Poppi (Marburg, QLD) and Helen Wyatt (Sydney, NSW) whose small precious works capture the imagination through their material and aesthetic choice. He has undertaken international residency at the Cite International Des Art in Paris, and at the British School in Rome. Residence Izabela Pluta 12-18 November 2018

Izabela Pluta is a Polish-born, Sydneybased artist working with photography as a way of interpreting and re-conceptualising the function that images have in the present. Negotiating the possibilities of how material forms come together, she draws largely on finding, fragmenting, translating and reconfiguring things that are both photographed and found. Izabela Pluta has exhibited widely in Australia. In 2012, she was commissioned to create Unset Typologies, a public artwork for the City of Melbourne. In 2017, Pluta was a finalist in the Bowness Photography Award at the Monash Gallery of Art, and in 2018 was shortlisted for the MAMA Foundation National Photographic Award. She is represented by This is no

fantasy, Melbourne and is a lecturer at UNSW Art & Design, Sydney. Installation of 2012 solo exhibition at Gippsland Art Gallery. Photo: Simon Gregg.

Artistic residencies support emerging artists, the creation of new artwork and promotes community engagement with the Gallery.

About Kristy Kristy’s love for wearable arts and contemporary adornment has inspired a journey developing her skills as a silver jewellery designer and artist. Cultivating a unique silversmithing style, her pieces are handcrafted with an ancient traditional method known as ‘the lost wax process’. Kristy’s background has evolved from a visual arts degree and textile printing education in Sydney, where she also had a fulfilling career in art departments in film, theatre and television. This year Kristy launched her own studio-based business Metaloosh Design.
