COLOUR YOUR LIFE – Glasshouse Season 2019
MESSAGE FROM THE 2019 PRINCIPAL SEASON SPONSOR The WIN Network is delighted to announce our continued support of Glasshouse Port Macquarie as Glasshouse Performing Arts 2019 Principal Season Sponsor. As founders of this partnership in 2018, we are grateful to continue on the key achievements of our inaugural year. Through many effective joint ventures, our union has generated numerous benefits for both Glasshouse and WIN but also importantly, our local community. WIN is the largest regional television broadcaster in Australia, covering all states and the nation’s capital, but we’re passionate about local – local businesses and local people. Working together, Glasshouse and the WIN Network will continue bringing a diverse and creative mix of entertainment and events to our region, while building strong links within the cultural sector and the wider community. We are truly excited about the Glasshouse 2019 Season Theme “Colour Your Life” and the dynamic way theatre or entertainment of any kind adds colour, vibrancy, depth and joy to your life. Just like Glasshouse, the region’s premier, state-of-the-art cultural destination, we believe in our local talent’s ability to colour our lives and are continually inspired by Port Macquarie’s Performing Arts community. We wish all Glasshouse Members and audiences a sensational 2019 Season! AIDAN BANHAM Manager, WIN Network Port Macquarie
Welcome to Season 2019 On 1 July 2019, it will be 10 years since the Glasshouse Port Macquarie opened its doors. It was one of Australia’s first ever purpose built multi-function venues, and as an original staff member I can say it’s been quite the journey with the Glasshouse now firmly cemented as a cultural and entertainment hub for our community. Therefore I am proud to present to you the 2019 Performing Arts Season of theatre shows and events. As I was programming this year's line up, I was struck by the variety of festivals, musicals, dance, drama and family shows on offer leading me to determine this year's theme where live entertainment in all its forms can “Colour Your Life”. Colour can dramatically influence our emotions, feelings, and imagination and I believe that live performance has the ability to do the same providing enrichment, illumination and vibrancy to our everyday lives. In 2019 we are delighted to welcome back WIN Network as the Glasshouse Performing Arts Principal Season Sponsor. Their ongoing support is integral to ensuring our community continues to have on offer first-class theatre to enhance the lifestyle of our region. Thank you to all of our Partners and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council for their commitment to the Performing Arts. Finally a sincere thank you to all our Glasshouse Members, loyal patrons and regional audiences for attending a show and making the Glasshouse a part of your everyday lives.

BY JIM CARTWRIGHT
The timeless comedy TWO introduces fourteen colourful characters, all skilfully played by Brian Meegan and Kate Raison. Set in the local pub, you’ll meet all the regulars, a misfit crowd of eccentric and hilarious individuals. There’s Moth, who loves Maud (and every other woman) fervently; Mrs Iger, with her passion for quiet, strong men; possessive Roy, jealous of anybody who looks at Lesley (even the darts players); Alice and Fred and their Elvis obsession; and the publicans themselves – a married couple with an unspoken secret... By turns funny, heart-warming and poignant, don’t miss this smash hit comedy by award-winning Ensemble Theatre Artistic Director Mark Kilmurry. Based in Kirribilli, on the edge of Sydney Harbour, Ensemble Theatre was founded in 1958 and is Australia’s the longest continuously running professional theatre.

THE SAPPHIRES
The Sapphires is one of Australia’s bestloved stories. This multiple award-winning musical that inspired the film is coming to the Glasshouse for the first time! This funny, heart-warming tale was inspired by the true story of four spirited Yorta Yorta women, who were plucked from obscurity by a kind-hearted, soul-loving manager to sing classic soul hits to entertain American troops in Vietnam. Wearing sequins, armed only with microphones and powerhouse voices, they find themselves trying to spread joy in the hell that is the Vietnam War. Their journey offers them the chance to change their tune, their lives and maybe even find love. This uplifting Australian classic, full of comedy, heart and romance, together with unbeatable soul music, will stay with you for years to come.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO PAUL WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY JONATHAN BIGGINS
One of Australia’s favourite performers, Jonathan Biggins, is Paul Keating – visionary, reformer and rabble-rouser – in a highly anticipated new comedy, The Gospel According to Paul. The Gospel According to Paul is a funny, insightful and occasionally poignant portrait of Paul Keating. The man that – as he tells it – singlehandedly shaped contemporary Australia. Jonathan Biggins’ performance as Paul Keating is well known from the long-running Sydney Theatre Company success story, The Wharf Revue. Full of insight, intelligence and wit, The Gospel According to Paul is a new comedy about a critical time in Australian history and the man who loomed large above it all.

SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SLAVA GRIGORYAN AND BEETHOVEN’S EROICA
The Sounds of Spain with Guitar Virtuoso Slava Grigoryan and Beethoven’s Third Symphony. The Sydney Symphony Orchestra comes to Port Macquarie with internationally renowned guitarist Slava Grigoryan. Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez is the perfect vehicle for Grigoryan: colourful, elegant and virtuosic, conjuring the stately atmosphere of the Palace of Aranjuez – the Spanish Versailles. Bizet’s Suite from Carmen provides a perfect introduction into the soundworld of Spain with its combination of French elegance and Spanish colour. The Suite No.1 brings together the most famous moments from Bizet’s famous opera, from the rattling castanets of the Aragonaise, to the triumphant music of the Toréadors. Beethoven’s Third Symphony was a musical revolution matched only by his famous Ninth. Of a scale previously unmatched by the great symphonists Haydn and Mozart, its grandeur is befitting of its “Heroic” title and remains one of Beethoven’s greatest compositions.

THE TWITS
Join us for this new adaption of The Twits, it is Roald Dahl in his purest form – unsentimental, grotesque and a lot of fun. A comedy of rebellion and justice that is a high energy combination of storytelling, puppetry and physical theatre! Mr and Mrs Twit are the most horrible people ever to live on the earth and spend their days playing horrible tricks on each other. Their grotesque appearance is a reflection of their ugly thoughts and mean spirits. Despite the fact that Mr and Mrs Twit like to play nasty tricks on each other, the book features one of Roald Dahl’s best-known quotes; “...if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” Appealing to children and families with its promise of fun and ‘silliness’, this story also champions the kindhearted.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE DIRECTOR JAMES EVANS
Claudio and Hero are deeply in love. Beatrice and Benedick would rather swap sassy insults than sweet nothings. Much Ado About Nothing is a saucy and razor-sharp battle of wits between the bickering Beatrice and Benedick, who wield words as weapons, their banter betraying their love for each other. Claudio however is quickly consumed by envy and his idyllic world threatens to come tumbling down as he humiliates Hero. Beatrice and Benedick must join forces to defend true love – even if they can’t recognise it in themselves. But will truth and honesty win the day, and does love really conquer all? Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s contemporary comedies where romance is thwarted by dastardly plots, misinformation, false accusations, broken promises, and bumbling cops. Or is it?
