Winter is sizzling at the Glasshouse with live theatre, music and inspiring arts. Transform your winter into a season of live entertainment and arts with us! Winter kicks off with the rising of WINTERSUN –Australia’s Original Retro Nostalgia Festival celebrating the excitement and buzz of the 40s, 50s and 60s. There are a wide range of WINTERSUN activities at the Glasshouse, so rock around the clock and make sure you don’t miss out on this unique event. Once the WINTERSUN sets, the Glasshouse stokes the fires and cranks up our very own blend of arts and entertainment. The Gallery is alive with an array of arts, and the Theatre will throb with everything music from the funky deepblue, the sublime ACO2 to Buddy Holly and beyond. Our live theatre offerings include the legendary Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf or perhaps the heartfelt Rainbow’s End from Sydney’s Riverside Theatre is more your style. Treat yourself and come along to visit our lively winter program at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery. A snapshot of what is on offer includes local artists featured alongside a strong international line up with a broad range of media and styles. We always aim to offer exhibitions to appeal to people aged 5 to 95, and we do this by creating an interesting mix of themes and subjects to educate, entertain and inspire anyone and everyone. At any one time you can view from three to five exhibitions on the three levels of Gallery – and not to be missed are our Essential Energy KIDS SPOT activities located within the exhibitions. We are a very family friendly space so why not make the Glasshouse Gallery your family destination stop this weekend.

EUAN MACLEOD works on paper Euan Macleod: Works on Paper presents a series of new works that continue his investigation into the relationship between the human figure and the vast landscape.
Well known for his dark, expressive and heavily textured paintings, Euan’s raw and gestural mark making, create emotion and awake memory. Macleod was the winner of the prestigious Archibald Prize in 1999.

RECENT FORKS Stephen Killick & Tony Coleing This exhibition brings together two of the region’s most renowned contemporary artists; Stephen Killick and Tony Coleing. Killick is well known for his bold, distilled artworks that reference a diverse range of subjects. His work is imbued with humour, which swathes a penetrating intelligence and play on form and space. Coleing has a diverse arts practice which covers various media from painting to sculpture and digital media. CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF BAGO MAGIC For the past 10 years the Bago Magic Performance Group has been captivating audiences from across the Mid North Coast with its wonderfully unique and joyful performances. Bago Magic started in Wauchope in 2001, as a community drama group for people with a disability, but soon transformed into a performance group accessible to all interested in drama, music and visual arts. This exhibition presents costumes, artworks, photographs and memorabilia to celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary.

PEOPLE OF THE FIRST SUNRISE East Coast Indigenous Art This exhibition celebrates contemporary Indigenous art with over 30 internationally acclaimed artists featured through a series of works from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. People of the First Sunrise presents an overview of contemporary Indigenous art and contains a mix of styles and media with subjects highlighting social, political and cultural issues. MEET THE ARTIST – Lorraine Connelly-Northey FRIDAY 29 JULY, 10AM Lorraine Connelly-Northey discusses her unique arts practice and the stories behind them. A Waradgerie artist her work relates to the history and culture of the Waradgerie and her personal connection to the land. Tickets: $5 ($3 for Friends of the Glasshouse).

CANT CHANT Vernon Ah Kee Leading Indigenous artist Vernon Ah Kee is known for his incisive critiques of White Australian culture. In the Cant Chant exhibition he takes on the iconic subject of the beach and casts a critical eye on its special role in forming Australian identity. Cant Chant includes surfboards painted with north Queensland rainforest shield designs as well as a video installation featuring dead boards (waterlogged surfboards) blasted by guns, and Aboriginal surfers.

IN MEMORY OF NATURE Janet Laurence Janet Laurence’s work is a gentle mix of sculpture, art and science, exploring environmental issues and the ephemeral or fleeting qualities of nature. This sculptural installation of delicate plants hot housed within a Gallery space heighten the short lived and transient elements of her art. Laurence exhibits widely and has an impressive record of representation in important exhibitions including the 9th Biennale of Sydney and the Australian Perspecta. Well known for her public art commissions, Janet has completed significant national and international projects. Full of mystery and delight, this is absorbing art to immerse yourself in!

READING THE BODY Sue Healy
Travel into the world of the extraordinary with this digital installation of organic human stories containing curious animations of bones and organs which partner dance. Text and moving image are screened simultaneously from different angles. Developed by renowned choreographer Sue Healy using the genius of cinematography and an acute awareness of movement. .

A BROAD PERSPECTIVE Arthur McNeil Local artist, Arthur McNeil explores drawing and illustration from the natural world. During his artistic career, McNeil has explored two approaches to his creativity. His strong and emotionally charged expressive drawing style relates adventures of exotic Asian locations while his more controlled illustrative techniques relate to his commercial career. Earlier career successes are demonstrated by his Walkley Awards.

The Hastings Youth Theatre presents a fairy story based on Dorothy finding herself in another cyclone and whisked off once again with her little dog, Toto to the Land of Oz. The Wizard has put the Scarecrow in charge, unfortunately though, the Wicked Witch of the North has stolen his brains in order to rule the land. Dorothy, finding her old friends, the Lion and the Tinman, set off with the Scarecrow to retrieve his commonsense and so enabling him ultimately to be not so scatterbrained.

DON QUIXOTE
Based on the legendary tale by Spanish author Cervantes, this classic ballet tells the story of the knight Quixote on a quest to find his lost love. On his journey he crosses paths with the swooning young lovers Kitri and Basilio in a tale of fun, mischief and mistaken identity. Choreographed by Ai-Gul Gaisina after Marius Petipa, Don Quixote has the necessary magic and all the right moves. It is light-hearted and colourful, featuring characters performed by some of Australia’s finest young dancers. Proudly supported by Cassegrain
