SPRING 2012

WELCOME Spring is the air and finally it’s getting warmer and the sun is rising a little earlier! After a hectic winter we charge into spring fully loaded with events and activities. Not only do we have events within the Glasshouse but we are now witnessing the development of a genuine entertainment precinct with events in and around the Glasshouse. There are several important dates to put in your diary:Thursday 23 August: Festival of the Sun (FOTSUN) line-up announced; Wednesday 5 September, 10am: FOTSUN tickets on sale at the Glasshouse following a launch in the Hay Street forecourt at 9.30am; & Sunday 14 October, Tastings on Hastings comes to the Port Macquarie CBD! Stay tuned for more information closer to the date. I’m particularly looking forward to a blockbuster Gallery opening in September with over 50 local artists featured in North Exposure II in the Gallery this spring. Local art exhibitions are extremely popular with our community. Northern Exposure II is a great opportunity for our artists to gain professional exhibiting experience in a large-scale gallery and we are committed to continuing to provide many more of these opportunities for our community. See you at the Glasshouse soon, Joe Conneely Group Manager, Cultural Development (Glasshouse)

Archaeological remains of convict built cottages and the first Town Hall are displayed in the basement. You can also see artefacts uncovered during the excavation, read stories of the area’s traditional owners and learn more about the history of the site and life in the early penal settlement of Port Macquarie.
