SHOW JODI MARTIN: SALTWATER IN MY HAIR TOUR Friday 16 January, 8pm Intensely personal, humorous and thought provoking, Jodi’s music will inspire that deep shift you feel inside when a song really moves you. Jodi has toured to the far reaches of the globe, and with some of the best in her field, including Luka Bloom, Bruce Cockburn and Arlo Guthrie. Folk legend Arlo Guthrie, son of Woody, has influenced Jodi greatly in music and in spirit. Jodi’s honest folk/roots style, evocative of Jack Johnson and Sheryl Crow, makes her undoubtedly ‘one of Australia’s most talented singer-songwriters’ (The Weekend Australian). Jodi’s show captures the ambience of an intimate, by-the-campfire jam session, complete with stage ‘campfire’ and her surfboard.

“I grew up on the edge of the desert and the ocean. Cities were a world away and our entertainment, if we were weren’t camping in the bush, fell squarely on the shoulders of the sea...” Jodi Martin

SARA WADE 13 February - 22 March Sara Wade is based on the mid north coast. Her abstract paintings explore environmental issues and the life cycle through layered colour and line. In this exhibition Wade presents a series of recent artworks that explore the human experience and the layering of social and physical history through the abstract form.

“This body of work reduces the dominance of colour to emphasise line and the stresses that our environment endures as part of the life cycle. This process is a metaphor for human life, as layers of experience compose our social and physical history. Sara Wade. Glasshouse Regional Gallery supporting arts within our community.

EAST COAST ENCOUNTER 20 February - 5 April 2015 East Coast Encounter is a multi-arts initiative involving Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, writers and songwriters to re-imagine the encounter by Lt James Cook and his crew with Aboriginal people in 1770. Cook’s voyage along the Australian east coast has become central to national historical narratives. The exhibition of paintings, photographs, videos and three dimensional works re-envisages this seminal journey by imaginatively exploring moments of contact between two world views during these encounters. This project has been developed by the University of the Sunshine Coast and assisted by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

BLACK HARVEST 13 February - 22 March This exhibition showcases artists Andy Devine and Peter Tilley, their artworks and some collaborative works. The mutual respect and complementary nature of their artistic practices is evident throughout the exhibition. The exhibition references Newcastle, with images of the local landscape, industrial and otherwise, narratives of personal history and political concerns. The practice of both artists carries oblique references to sustainability and environmental degradation. Andy Devine, Peter Tilley.
