BOXING – GO BOX 101 Go Box 101 is not your typical boxercise class format. Participants will lace up the gloves and do timed round training on heavy bags, specialty bags, and focus mitt drills, with the trainer. This is an incredible full body workout that increases one’s balance, agility, coordination and overall strength. Learn the sweet science of boxing, while incorporating number system punch combinations, footwork and a training regimen that boxers use for fight preparation. Personal gloves are recommended. GO SOCIETY Go Society is a fitness regimen allowing individuals to train for improvements in everyday fitness and real life activities. To receive Glendale resident rates, proof of residency must be provided. Proof must show address and be current within 60 days. Please join us for the 39th Annual SAC Fall Public Star Party at Thunderbird Conservation Park in Glendale on Saturday, Oct. 8. The event will be hosted by the Saguaro Astronomy Club in partnership with the City of Glendale. Members of the Club will have large and small telescopes set up and available for public viewing from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm (sunset 6:03 pm). They will show a variety of astronomical objects including the Moon, Planets, Stars, Galaxies, and Deep Sky Wonders. Club volunteers will be on hand to answer questions you may have about telescopes, observing the sky, and astronomy in general. Weather permitting. The event is free. Please join us for a night under the stars! Directions: To get to Thunderbird Conservation Park in Glendale, take Loop 101 to 67th Avenue and go north 1 1/2 miles to Patrick Lane (just past Mountain Ridge High School). 2016 Glendale Police GAIN Event Saturday, Oct. 28, 5-9 p.m. Murphy Park, 58th and Glendale Avenues G.A.I.N. (Get Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) is an annual event designed to heighten crime awareness, generate support and participate in local anti-crime efforts by uniting community members to help create safer neighborhoods. (Glendale Recreation After School Program)

Before/After School Recreation Program Qualifies for DES assistance The G.R.A.S.P. programs is a licensed recreation programs providing a variety of activities for children ages 5 to 13 such as arts and crafts, recreation activities, guest speakers and much more! The programs is regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services and can accept DES qualifying families (contact your DES caseworker for information). Our programs provide enrichment opportunities to explore new and fun experiences in a supervised environment. Educational activities, snacks, group games and homework time are offered by caring, adult staff members. Program site is open on early release days, but closed on national holidays or when the school campus is closed.

Program Sites Begins Aug. 4: Desert Mirage Elem. School, 8605 W. Maryland Ave. Pre-registration is required, including a non-refundable registration fee for the school year. Registration must be completed at least 2 business days prior to program site attendance. Punt, Pass & Kick Competition This is a national skills competition for kids in four separate age divisions to compete against each other in punting, passing and placekicking in a fun and engaging forum. Scores are based on distance and accuracy. This program is FREE for boys and girls ages 6-15. This year the local competition will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Foothills Sports Complex, 57th Ave., just north of Union Hills Dr., on fields #1 & #2. On-site registration begins at 5 p.m. sharp and the competition begins at 6 p.m. Winners from the local competition will advance on to the sectional competition to be held on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Glendale Youth Sports Complex, 6222 N. 91st Ave., Glendale, AZ 85303. Only the top four 1st place finishers in boys and girls age division in the pool of 5 sectional competitions will advance to the Team Championship at the University of Phoenix Stadium to be held during a regular season home game.
