Two Degr ee Ini ti ati ve (2DI) M ega-Deltas updates
Dear 2DI Mega-Deltas Partner, We hope you are doing well in these complex times, had a very enjoyable holiday season, and a good start in 2021 and the year of the Buffalo. We would like to share some highlights from our events in the past months.
2DI Proceedings by the World Resources Institute (WRI)
We are delighted to share the WRI’s remarkable accomplishment in wrapping up over 50 listening sessions within the “2 Degree Initiative (2DI)'' into the recently published Conference Proceedings. Over 1,500 stakeholders from the public and private sector, development donors, and research institutes from more than 60 countries came together to identify the regional climate-related challenges and develop a shared vision of resilient agriculture and food systems. The discussions about “Securing Asian Mega-Deltas”, for example, have shed light on the needed technologies and practices, investment, and institutional engagement for transforming the deltas into climate-resilient food baskets. Findings will contribute to framing the CGIAR’s research agenda to 2030, aiming to improve the sustainable livelihood of over 200 million small-scale agricultural producers in different parts of the world. 2DI Presentation at the Gobeshona Global Conference
The Two Degree Initiative through its sub-program ‘Securing Asian Mega-Deltas’ organized a networking session, "An Asian Mega-Delta Collective for Sustainable Delta Futures”, together with the ‘Living Deltas Hub’ during the Gobeshona conference. Along with other organizations and attended by over a hundred stakeholders from South Asia and other regions, the session highlighted the importance of partnerships and collective action for transformative change, with the intersection and con uence of priorities between development organizations and the delta dwellers and policymakers a critical factor. The breakout sessions yielded some interesting insights in terms of matching development programs with the needs of delta dwellers. A platform for the 'bottom up' approach of co-creating priorities, by hearing the voices of the people on the ground, could inform new investment programs. And indigenous culture and knowledge should be taken into account when developing adapted livelihood systems for women and marginalized groups. These insights contribute to the development of 2DI's research agenda.

2DI Side Event at the Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS)
Hosted by the Government of the Netherlands, the CAS 2021 virtually convened global leaders and local stakeholders to set out a comprehensive Adaptation Action Agenda. In a CAS 2021 side event, CCAFS and WRI summarized the key outcomes of the 2DI Listening Sessions and the emerging Research for Development (R4D) agships. The messages emanating from the Listening Sessions are the focus of the report launched during the CAS 2021. Visit the 2DI webpage for the full webinar.
What’s next for 2DI ‘Mega-Deltas’?
We are in the process of developing a more detailed research agenda for the 2DI ‘Mega-Deltas’ Challenge that builds on the information collected during the Listening Sessions. This agenda will include an Impact Pathway and support broader partnership building with research and development organizations as well as the private sector. We look forward to further engaging with you as we are preparing the Mega-Deltas program to be operational at the start of 2022. Stay tuned for updates and get in touch with us to conceptualize your ideas and contributions to ‘Securing the Asian Mega-Deltas’.
