Agriculture Department and IRRI set the Philippine rice research roadmap for the next 5 years
During the Gobeshona Global Conference on Locally-Led Adaptation last January 2021, one of the key sessions was a webinar on the social and economic threats faced by people living in megadeltas, particularly in South and Southeast Asia.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) have identi ed research agenda that will guide the development and implementation of new projects under the Philippines-IRRI Partnership in Rice R4D (PIPRR4D).

In the Sarangani upland communities, the vital role of rice landraces in ensuring household food security and survival of the tribal families is undeniable. Such is the importance of these landraces that their potential loss will affect not only food security but also have dire consequences for the tribal culture.
As breeders continue to search for ways to improve crop varieties to enable farmers to sustainably produce more grains and contribute to global food security, a team from the University of Illinois and the International Rice Research Institute found a new opening for breeding higheryielding, water-e cient rice varieties.
