The Joys of Cruising CRUISES INCLUDE HOME PICK UP* & HOLIDAY INSURANCE*
A proud tradition
Lots to do - day and night
Taking to the waves for a leisurely ocean cruise has a long and proud history dating back to the turn of the last century. Those early vessels were essentially ocean liners, the only way to cross from the Old World to the New and they offered relatively little in the way of comfort or facilities. But ocean cruising has come a very long way since then – as you’ll see when you look through the variety of impressive ships and exciting itineraries that make up this year’s fabulous Cruise Collection from Glenton.
There’s never a dull moment on a contemporary cruise ship. From dawn to dusk and beyond there is always something going on. In the daytime you can work out in the gym, go for a dip in the pool, join in numerous organised activities, attend an informative lecture or perhaps learn a new skill. Nightfall brings a dazzling array of onboard entertainment. One night you could be watching a brand new cinema release, the next giving a standing ovation to a lavish West End-style show. Perhaps you’ll flirt with Lady Luck over a gripping game of roulette or maybe just sit back with a late night cocktail with the soothing sound of live piano music in the background.
*See page 7 for full details of our home pick up service. See page 49 for full details of our holiday insurance.

Seeing the world
Relaxation rules Modern cruise ships offer much more than just swimming pools and sun loungers. You can clear your head and clean your pores in Scandinavian style saunas and steam rooms. Soothe your muscles at the same time as chatting to friends, old and new, in whirlpools and jacuzzis. Or visit the beauty salon and treat yourself to a massage, a beauty treatment or even a flattering new hairdo for that gala evening on board.
Magnificent menus All the ships in the Glenton Cruise Collection pride themselves on the quality and variety of food on offer in their restaurants. Whether you enjoy experimenting with new and exotic dishes or prefer plain traditional fare, you will never be disappointed. Many ships offer a selection of restaurants with differing ambiences and all will make a suitable fuss of a birthday boy or girl or a couple celebrating a special anniversary!
Relaxation rules
Comfortable accommodation Whether you opt for an economical inside cabin or a suite with a balcony, the cabins on all the ships in our collection are equipped and decorated to a high standard. The higher grade you opt for, the more space and facilities you will enjoy.
Seeing the world Bring the wider world to life and make the most of your time ashore by treating yourself to some of our cruise operators’ many onshore excursions. Or simply find a portside cafÊ and watch the world float by. The choice is yours! Please note that all cruise itineraries published in this brochure may be subject to amendment. Facilities and activities available will vary from ship to ship. Please see the relevant brochure pages for details.

CRUISES INCLUDE HOME PICK UP* & HOLIDAY INSURANCE*
Experience the incomparable adventure of an ocean cruise with the minimum of worry, fuss or disruption. Your Glenton cruise includes holiday insurance* and a home pick up* service to ensure you arrive at your departure port refreshed and raring to go. You can trust Glenton to take good care of you!
Price Match Promise
Cruise Only Discount
We’re very confident that our cruise holidays offer outstanding value for money. That’s why we‘ve introduced a Price Match Promise for 2014. If you find the exact same holiday at a cheaper price within seven days of booking we promise to refund the difference between our price and the competitor’s. This pledge applies to like-for-like cruises or packages sold with the same service conditions and claims must be supported by evidence of the other company’s offer.
We know that some people already have travel insurance or prefer to source their own policies. We are also aware that a small number of clients would rather make their own travel arrangements to and from the port. For that reason we now offer a Cruise Only Discount for passengers who choose not to avail of home pick up* or our travel insurance*. See individual cruise pages for information.
Cruise holiday prices are subject to change. We constantly monitor competitors’ deals and endeavour to offer our clients the best value at all times. The prices in this edition of our 2014 Cruise Brochure are valid until 31 Oct 2013. *See page 7 for full details of our home pick up service. See page 49 for full details of our holiday insurance.

A - Z of Cruising
with Glenton and Fred. Olsen Accounts For your convenience a credit system is operated for all onboard services. Your account is open from the time you embark and your swipe card will be issued at check-in to be used as your onboard account card. To avoid any necessity to queue you should present your credit card early in the cruise for a swipe to be taken. You can check your balance at any stage of the cruise and it will be debited after disembarkation. Accepted credit cards: Amex, Diners, Eurocard, Mastercard, Visa and Visa Debit. For security we strongly advise travellers’ cheques as the safest form of currency and cashing facilities are available on board. We will also cash personal cheques. The currency used on board is Sterling which must be the currency used to settle on board accounts if paying in cash. We also carry currencies for most of the ports visited on the cruise.
Anchor Ports Whilst your cruise ship will dock in the harbour at the majority of destinations, a small number of ports are what we call “anchor ports”. In this instance, passengers wishing to disembark will be conveyed to land by launch or tender. This is standard procedure for cruise lines worldwide.
Baggage You may take one suitcase plus one piece of hand baggage per passenger. All baggage must be stored within your cabin.
Beauty Salon
Your cabin stewardess will keep your cabin immaculate, replacing any towels and linen as and when required.
Cabin Service Boudicca and Black Watch offers complimentary cabin service for breakfast and light snacks. Times and availability of each will be detailed in your Welcome Pack.
Casino There are small gaming areas on board where you can try your hand at Blackjack and Roulette. Please note that games of chance may not be charged back to your cabin account.
Informal Nights. For men, a lounge suit or jacket and tie. For ladies, tailored trousers or dress would be appropriate. Elegant Casual. Open neck shirts for men and casual separates for women will be suitable. Casual Nights. On the first and last night of the cruise we relax the rules – although still no shorts or vests in the restaurants please!
Duty Free
After breakfast on Sundays at sea a Christian service with prayers and readings will be held, led by the Cruise Director.
Daily Times
Embarkation / Disembarkation
Each evening a Daily Times newsletter will be placed in your cabin detailing events and timings for the following day. This will include time zone changes and dress code guidelines.
As it can take two to three hours for all passengers to embark and disembark a cruise ship, your transport will be arranged appropriately. On arrival at your return port you may be asked to remain onboard the ship while your transport for home is positioned on shore.
Church Services
Dietary Requirements Fat free, vegetarian and gluten free diets are happily catered for. Please give us three to four weeks notice for special requests to enable us to prepare the appropriate menu and give you the best possible service.
Dress Code
A Welcome Pack of useful information and a handy Ship Guide will be in your cabin on arrival. Your cabin door is opened either by the use of
Formal Nights. For ladies, this is the opportunity

to wear a cocktail or evening dress. For gentlemen, we recommend a dinner jacket or tuxedo. Alternatively, a dark suit and tie is acceptable.
It is company policy that only alcohol purchased on our vessels may be consumed on board. Alcohol brought from ashore will be placed in safe keeping by the ship’s security officers and returned at the end of the cruise. However, cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol purchased on board can be enjoyed on the ship or taken home via our tax free cabin shopping service.
Daytime dress is casual though we do ask you to adhere to appropriate dress codes in the main restaurants. For going ashore and walking on deck flat, comfortable shoes are a must. We would also recommend that you take a lightweight jacket or fleece for evenings. Don’t forget your sun creams, hats and sunglasses, as the power of the sun is magnified at sea.
Boudicca and Black Watch have a fully equipped beauty salon perfect for pampering and special treats.

on board, where a nominal charge is made for the use of the washing machines.
Medical Centre For your peace of mind, Boudicca and Black Watch have a medical centre offering primary care with a doctor and/or nurse on permanent call. You can call from your cabin in an emergency. Medical centres operate outside the British and European health services and charges are levied for consultations, prescriptions or cabin visits. A scale of charges will be displayed in the medical centre and will be billed to your on board account. Please remember to bring adequate amounts of medication to last the duration of your cruise. A copy of any regular prescription is advisable in the event of an emergency.
Passports It is a condition of carriage that passengers must hold a full and valid passport. Some ports of call will require validity of at least six months after your return to the UK.

Due to the popularity of excursions it is advisable to book in advance of your cruise to avoid disappointment. You can also book at the Shore Excursions Desk on board. Please note that tours may be subject to minimum and maximum participating numbers and to local weather conditions. A full programme, including booking form, will be despatched directly to you several weeks prior to sailing.
Vaccinations
Regrettably we cannot guarantee that assistance by qualified personnel will be available for disabled passengers at all ports of call. Unless able to board a vehicle unassisted it will not usually be possible for wheelchair users to participate in organised coach tours.
Going Ashore Independently Your cruise fare is fully inclusive of port taxes and charges, so when the ship has cleared customs and immigration in each port you are free to get on and off the ship as often as you wish. When the ship is berthed some distance from the town centre a shuttle bus service is often provided to save you money on taxi fares. All-day tickets can be purchased from reception. Shuttle buses do not operate in ports where we feel it is easy/more economical for passengers to use independent transport or where we are prohibited from running such a service.
Single Travellers Our single guests never need be alone on board as we have the reputation of operating the friendliest cruise ships afloat. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines staff will be waiting to greet you from the moment you arrive at the port and special activities will be arranged throughout the cruise to give you the opportunity to meet with fellow single travellers if you wish.
Smoking Policy All restaurants on board are strictly non-smoking. All cabins on Boudicca and Black Watch are also strictly non-smoking. We would also ask passengers to refrain from smoking pipes and cigars on board. Smoking is no longer permitted in any inside deck area. Smoking is however permitted on cabin balconies and on designated open deck locations.

Depending on the ports of call of your chosen cruise, you may require vaccination against Yellow Fever. If so, this will be advised to you at time of booking. However, due to ever-changing health regulations, we suggest that you contact your local GP approximately twelve weeks prior to departure for the most up-to-date information.
Visas Passport, visa and health requirements can change at any time. It is your own responsibility to ensure that you check with a professionally qualified source and comply with such requirements. UK passport holders will need visas for certain Fred. Olsen cruises and this will be advised to you at the time of booking or when the requirement arises. It is the responsibility of all non-British passport holders to ensure that they are in possession of a valid passport and, where necessary, entry visas or permits for their chosen cruise. If you are unsure as to whether you are required to obtain such documents you must contact the relevant Embassy or Consulate. Failure to comply with this request may result in refusal of carriage or the imposition of individual fines by the local immigration authorities. Please note: When going ashore independently in certain ports of call (eg St Petersburg, Russia) it may be necessary for you to arrange a visitor’s visa. Please see your confirmation invoice for further details of how to do this. In St Petersburg, when participating in shore excursions arranged by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, all passport holders will be covered on a group visa.
Voltage On Board Boudicca and Black Watch feature dual voltage 110 volts requiring a US style flat 2-pin plug, and 220 volts requiring a continental round 2-pin plug (both have a 60 volt cycle). To ensure your electrical appliances are safe to use please check with Reception. Adapters can be hired on board or can be purchased at the on board shop. Travel irons are strictly prohibited.
Wheelchairs Glenton and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines warmly welcome passengers dependent on the use of wheelchairs on all our cruises. We do however insist that they are always accompanied by an able-bodied companion. A limited number of cabins on each ship have been modified to facilitate more comfortable occupation for such passengers. We do respectfully require wheelchair users to bring their own wheelchair. The number of wheelchairs we can permit on each cruise is limited by our Safety Classification Society, as individual crew members are assigned to each cabin occupied by a wheelchair user, who would be called upon to provide the required assistance in the unlikely event of an emergency at sea. Failure to notify us at the time of booking regarding any mobility aids may result in you being unable to board.

Friday. Your driver collects you from your own front door and whisks you off to Greenock where your cruise ship awaits. Saturday. We enjoy a full day at sea taking full advantage of the many activities, great entertainment and sumptuous catering on board Discovery. Sunday. Today we visit the pretty little village of Kollafjordur, our gateway to the fascinating Faroe Islands. Monday. Enchanting Eskifjordur sits on the gentle lower slopes of a mountain at the end of an attractive fjord. Our visit to this small town illustrates the isolation of communities in Iceland’s Eastern Fjords. Tuesday. Akureyri lies at the head of Iceland’s longest fjord. The somewhat incongruous Botanical Gardens and the fascinating museum are well worth visiting but the main attraction here is the awesome landscape of volcanoes, waterfalls and geysers. Wednesday. Isafjordur is the largest town in the Western Fjords of Iceland. Home to one of the largest fisheries in the country, it’s a compact and friendly place with a distinctly urban feel that belies its isolated setting.
Orkney Islands
Thursday. This morning we arrive in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital city. Meander through the old town with its bizarre metal houses or enjoy the breathtaking views from atop The Pearl. The many unusual attractions in this unique city include the Imagine Peace Tower, Yoko Ono’s moving monument to John Lennon and the enthralling Reykjavik Art Museum. Friday. Our last port of call in Icelandic waters is Heimaey, the only inhabited island in the Westmann Islands with a population of less than five thousand. In summer the island is also home to as many as eight million puffins! Saturday. A further day at sea, relaxing and recharging our batteries. Sunday. This morning we arrive in Kirkwall, the cheery capital of the Orkney Islands. Attractions include the unique Orkney Wireless Museum, dedicated to the history of radios, the red ruins of Earl’s Palace and Bishop’s Palace as well as the impressive cathedral dedicated to St Magnus. Monday. This morning finds us back in Scotland at the port of Leith where your driver will be on hand to take you all the way home after a truly memorable holiday.

A - Z of Cruising
with Glenton and Cruise & Maritime Voyages Anchor Ports
Dress Code
Whilst your cruise ship will dock in the harbour at the majority of destinations, a small number of ports are what we call “anchor ports”. In this instance, passengers wishing to disembark will be conveyed to land by launch or tender. This is standard procedure for cruise lines worldwide.
During the day, attitudes are very relaxed and informality is the key. Casual clothing is quite sufficient during the days at sea and for time spent ashore. On certain shore excursions and at some religious sites, discretion should be used so as not to cause inadvertent offence with inappropriate clothing. Advice will be given on board in such cases. Every day, the Daily Programme suggests a mode of dress for that particular evening’s events.
Baggage You may take one suitcase plus one piece of hand baggage per passenger. As there are no separate Baggage Room facilities aboard our ships, it should be noted that all baggage must be stored within the cabin.
Brochure Information The information contained in this brochure has been checked for accuracy and is correct at the time of printing in September 2013. Worldwide events subsequent to this date may necessitate unavoidable alterations to our planned schedules. Any such changes deemed to be significant or fundamental to your booking will be advised to you accordingly. It should also be noted that the destination photography and maps are generic to the locations depicted and may not be a specific representation of sights or images to be viewed in a particular port of call on the cruise booked.
Children & Teens Please note that Marco Polo is child-free and therefore for the enjoyment of adult passengers only (sixteen years and above at the time of sailing). There are no dedicated recreational facilities for children aboard Discovery, but nevertheless accompanied children and teenagers under the age of eighteen at the date of sailing are welcome aboard.
There are generally two ‘formal’ or gala nights planned on each cruise when many gentlemen wear a dinner jacket, although a lounge suit is quite acceptable. The ladies on these occasions have a chance to dress up and often opt for evening or cocktail dresses. On evenings proposed as ‘informal’, a suit or smart jacket and trousers, with or without a tie, for the men is suggested and the ladies have further opportunities to look elegant in cocktail dresses, trouser suits and stylish co-ordinates. A ‘casual’ recommendation often covers evenings spent in port or when a special event such as a deck party is scheduled. In these cases, the choice of dress is left entirely to you.
Electrical Appliances All cabins feature 110v or 220v current and have an electrical socket to allow small appliances such as electric shavers, electric rollers and curling tongs to be used. It is advisable to bring a UK three pin to European round two pin universal adaptor in order to access the electrical supply in the cabins.
Embarkation / Disembarkation As it can take two to three hours for all passengers to embark and disembark a cruise ship, your
Freephone 08000 24 24 24 for more information or to book your cruise today.
transport will be arranged appropriately. On arrival at your return port you may be asked to remain onboard the ship while your transport for home is positioned on shore.
Extras not included The following extras are not included: optional shore excursions; port parking; any on board expenditure of a personal nature (drinks, gifts, shopping, laundry, communications etc); any visa & health certificate charges that may apply and crew gratuities which will be automatically billed to your on board account.
Gratuities According to international custom in the hospitality industry, tipping is accepted as recognition of good service. For your greater convenience we operate an automatic tipping system so instead of worrying how much and when to tip, an amount of £5 per person per night (£4 per person per night for cruises of more than 16 nights duration) will be debited to your onboard account. You have the chance to adjust the amount to be charged to your account to reflect your level of satisfaction and this can be done by contacting the Reception Desk.
Health Requirements There are currently no mandatory vaccinations for visiting any of the ports of call of all Cruise & Maritime Voyages cruises in this brochure.
Holiday & Accommodation Information In this brochure, we have endeavoured to provide as much essential information as space permits. However, please bear in mind that from time to time, certain on board facilities, activities, entertainments and shore excursions may be altered or

Mobility / Special Needs
of demand, essential maintenance work or other
A cruise is quite unlike a land based holiday and the ships of our fleet are not ideally suited to prospective passengers in wheelchairs or those who have limited mobility. It is therefore essential that you contact our office to discuss your requirements before you make a booking.
reasons beyond our control.
Itineraries It should be noted that cruise itineraries are subject to amendment. Should major changes to the ports of call, other than timing adjustments or the order in which they are visited, become necessary we shall endeavour to notify you in advance. Please note that in the event of adverse weather or sea conditions that prevent a vessel from calling at one of the scheduled ports of call, alternative arrangements will be made where possible. Rotating of the ports of call may vary due to congestion.
Medical Declarations In the interest of your own safety and wellbeing, you must be fit and healthy to take your cruise and all other travel arrangements that you book with us. Therefore, the Company must be advised at the time of booking of any pre-existing medical condition and of any change to a passenger’s condition that occurs between booking and the sailing date. Medical Declarations, on the Company’s official form, will be required by all passengers including those who a) are pregnant or b) have a mental or physical disability, including mobility limitations. The declaration forms are sent to passengers once bookings are confirmed. Cruise & Maritime Voyages reserves the right in its absolute discretion to refuse boarding to persons who in the opinion of the Company’s Medical Consultant are unfit to undertake the cruise or who have failed to make full disclosure
Failure to notify us at the time of booking regarding any mobility aids may result in you being unable to board.
On Board Payments All prices on board are quoted in Sterling and a cashless system is in operation for all your on board purchases. An account is opened for you at the start of your cruise and you sign a debit when purchasing goods and services on board. This is charged to your shipboard account and a final invoice is presented at the end of the cruise itemising all charges. This can be settled by Sterling Travellers’ Cheques, Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card and of course, cash. It is not possible to use personal cheques to settle on board accounts. The Reception staff also offer a facility to purchase small amounts of foreign currency for use in most of the ports of call.
of the nature of their condition.
Passports
Upon arrival at the embarkation port, you will also
invalidate your travel insurance.
A passport is essential for all cruises, including those to the British Islands and Ireland and all British Citizens must hold a full ten year passport. Many countries, including most of those visited during the winter cruise programme, require visitors to hold passports that have at least six months validity beyond the return date of the cruise. It is the responsibility of holders of nonBritish passports to check with the relevant consular authorities of the countries to be visited to ascertain if there any specific restrictions or requirements for their planned itinerary. Any passenger arriving at the departure port without a passport, or with the incorrect documentation, will not be allowed to embark. Such circumstances are not covered by insurance and no refund claims will be entertained.
Medical Services
Restaurant & Table Reservations
The services of our qualified medical staff are
Whilst breakfasts and lunches are generally served in the restaurant on an open seating basis, two sittings are operated for dinner in the evening. On days at sea, these sittings are normally timed at 18.00 and 20.30 and these timings may vary during port days. You should state any preferences for a particular sitting and/or table size at the time of booking. Please note that
be required to complete a Fitness to Travel Declaration. If you have suffered from any viral symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting or flu-like symptoms within the forty-eight hours before sailing, you must immediately contact your GP and notify us providing details of the symptoms suffered. Based on the information you provide, if we reasonably feel that you are not fit to travel, we will not allow you to board. Cruise & Maritime Voyages regrets that it cannot accept bookings from passengers who will be twenty-eight weeks pregnant or more by the end of their cruise. Please note that a failure to disclose a specified medical condition may additionally
available to you on board in the event of ‘mal de mer’ or an emergency. It should be noted that the NHS does not cover treatment on the ship and there is a scale of charges for surgery visits and medical treatment. Such charges are usually claimable under your travel insurance policy, less any excess amounts.
48
It should be noted that the layout of the ship could considerably restrict such passengers’ movement around the vessel and indeed preclude access to some of the ports of call, where gangway conditions are not conducive or passengers are conveyed ashore by tender. Passengers with mobility limitations, or who have special needs, that are accepted for travel must be accompanied by at least one able-bodied companion who will be responsible for general care and assistance throughout the cruise.
requests for specific dining sittings and/or table sizes will be treated strictly on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and will be subject to availability. Whilst every effort will be made to accommodate preferences, no guarantee or confirmations can be given.
Safety & Security For your complete security and peace of mind, there are stringent security measures in force at UK ports. All cabin baggage will be electronically screened, hand baggage may be examined and you will be required to pass through an X-Ray arch prior to boarding the vessel. At embarkation you will be issued with a personalised ID card which is used for gangway control purposes and validates you as a bona-fide passenger.
Shore Excursions An attractive programme of tours is offered at each of our ports of call and you will be sent full details and a booking form with your pre-sailing information around two months prior to sailing. We shall operate a pre-reservation service and subject to availability, you will also be able to book on board with our Shore Excursion staff. Full details will be advised with the pre-sailing information.
Smoking Smoking is not permitted inside ships operated by Cruise & Maritime. All internal areas, comprising cabins, lounges, restaurants and other public areas are non-smoking areas. Designated areas for smokers are available in selected external areas of the open decks. We reserve the right to alter our smoking policy at any time and should new national or international maritime legislation subsequently affect this policy, passengers will be informed accordingly.
Special Diets Passengers with certain dietary requirements may be catered for and further enquiries should be made at the time of booking.
Valuables Each cabin has the facility of a personal safe for your valuables and important papers.
Visas At the time of printing, no individual visas are required to be obtained in advance for the cruises listed in this brochure by British nationals who hold a passport that show that they are a ‘British Citizen’. At the time of writing, passengers on the Baltic Cities & St Petersburg cruises will not be required to obtain individual Russian visas if they only go ashore as participants in the official shore excursion programme. If passengers prefer to make independent arrangements for their time in Russia, a chargeable individual visa, issued in advance by the Consular Authorities in the UK, will be required.
Visitors Due to the stringent security measures in force, it is not possible to allow visitors on board Marco Polo or Discovery during their calls to UK ports.

Note: Certain arrangements may not be amended after they have been confirmed and any alteration could incur a cancellation charge of up to 100% of that part of the arrangements in addition to the charges detailed above. ii. Should you cancel your holiday due to medical reasons and you can support this with the documentation requested by the insurer, you may be able to reclaim these charges, less any excess figure, if the reason for cancellation is covered by your holiday insurance. Advice on how to make your claim, which must be dealt directly with the Insurance Company, will be sent together with a Cancellation Invoice following your written confirmation of cancellation. iii. If any person with whom you are sharing a room should cancel, and you wish to continue with your holiday as planned, we will make every effort to transfer you to a suitable room, if available. If this is not possible, or if this results in any additional charges, we reserve the right to pass on these charges to you, or to cancel your holiday and apply the appropriate cancellation charges. c. If We Change or Cancel Your Holiday i. Material Alterations, Cancellations and Compensation. Because our brochure details are prepared months in advance it could become necessary, in certain circumstances, to change your holiday arrangements, to amend itineraries, change hotels, alter your UK airport, or to cancel your holiday because it has failed to attract the minimum number of passengers required for the tour or pick-up point (if applicable). Often these are only minor changes, but where a Material Alteration or Cancellation (see point c.ii) becomes necessary outside the date when full payment is due you have the following options: (a) to continue with the holiday as amended or (b) accept an alternative holiday which we may offer or (c) cancel your booking and receive a prompt refund of all monies paid. A refund will become due to you if any alternative accommodation offered to you is of a lower standard than previously advertised. Where a Material Alteration or Cancellation is notified after the date when full payment is due you are also entitled to compensation on the scale set out below, unless this is a result of hostilities, lockout, political unrest, industrial disputes, adverse weather conditions, fire, epidemic or health risk, disease outbreak, or
any other reason of unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all care had been exercised. ii. Definitions of Material Alterations and Cancellations. For the above purposes a holiday will be deemed to be Materially Altered or Cancelled if we make a significant change of resort, a change of accommodation to a lower standard or price, a change of departure date or a change of coach holiday departure point more than five miles from the original. Period before departure when a material alteration or cancellation is notified
Holidays where full payment is due 28 days before departure
More than 84 days 83 days to 28 days 27 days to 14 days 13 to day of departure
Holidays where full payment is due 29 to 98 days before departure
Compensation per person nil nil nil £5 £5 £10 £10 £20
d. Changes to Flight Times As our brochure is published many months in advance any flight times detailed in the brochure, or in any other literature we publish, are for guidance only. Flight times and/or schedules can change, often with little notice, and we reserve the right to substitute alternative airlines, routes and times from those shown if required. Such a change is not a material alteration (see section 2cii) and will not entitle you to cancel your holiday without incurring a cancellation charge. Your final flight details will be sent to you with other important travel information about 10 days before departure and you must check this carefully as soon as it is received. e. Changes to Your Booking and Amendment Charges If, after booking your holiday, you are prevented from travelling and wish to transfer the booking to another person, the company will agree as long as the other person satisfies all the conditions applicable to the package, and subject to both persons accepting joint and several liability for full payment of the package price and the company’s charge of £10 for confirming the transfer and any additional costs imposed upon the company by flight or cruise operators or accommodation suppliers. Any transfer requests within 14 days of departure will however be treated as a cancellation and will be subject to the scale of cancellation charges set out in section 2b above. Requests for changing the booking to another departure date, hotel, tour, or to amend your departure point/travelling plans, will be treated similarly.
3. Your holiday a. Your Glenton Package
Your holiday includes a number of elements as stated in the brochure. Unfortunately we cannot make any refunds if you choose, or are unable to, take any part of this package. b. Your Holiday Accommodation i. Private facilities are available at certain hotels, some at extra cost, and this is shown in the price panel. Rooms with private facilities (sometimes referred to as En-Suite or Private Bathroom) have bath and/or shower and WC, and some rooms may have a washbasin in the bedroom rather than in the WC or bathroom. ii. There is no supplement for a limited number of sole occupancy rooms available at our UK mainland hotels. However, hotels may allow the use of additional rooms for single occupancy and these rooms, where available, will often carry a supplement. iii. Lower floor rooms are defined as rooms on the ground or first floor. We make no extra charge for the limited number available and although every effort is made to comply with your wishes we accept no liability for failure to provide such a request and cannot accept bookings which are conditional upon us fulfilling this request. iv. Any special requests (eg special diets, low floor or adjoining rooms) must be made at the time of booking and printed in the relevant section of the confirmation invoice issued by Glenton to you or your travel agent. If, for whatever reason, this is missing you must contact us immediately otherwise the information will not be passed on to the relevant suppliers. Whilst every effort is made to comply with your wishes we cannot guarantee that such requests will be granted or that your accommodation will be able to provide the requested services or facilities. We cannot accept any reservation that is conditional upon any special request being satisfied. v. Some amenities and facilities require cleaning, servicing or may suffer mechanical failure at times, and other unforeseeable factors beyond the control of the supplier may affect their availability from time to time. Entertainment as detailed in the brochure may also be affected for similar reasons and therefore it’s frequency and nature may be subject to change. The listing of a ‘Dance Floor’ in a description does not necessarily mean that dancing will be available during your stay. vi. In certain circumstances it may become necessary to change the location of a single overnight stop. Whilst we will do our best to notify you in advance of such a change, we reserve the right to effect such a change without notice. At all times the change of hotel will be of equivalent standard to the original. Few insurance companies will provide cover for loss of luggage or personal belongings stored in an unattended vehicle overnight. You should therefore take all personal belongings with you at
overnight stops. vii.In certain cases tourist board accommodation categories or star ratings are shown against hotels. Overseas countries have different grading systems, and star ratings may not be equivalent to those in the UK. viii. Some hotels may make an additional charge for the use of leisure facilities. ix. Inclusive Bars: Please note that where drinks are included as part of the holiday package, conditions do apply and the accommodation provider will give full details on arrival. The accommodation provider has a legal duty of care to maintain responsible drinking and will put in place measures to monitor and control as they see fit. All-inclusive packages are designed to allow you to budget in advance and anyone abusing the inclusive bar facility may have this facility withdrawn at any time by the accommodation provider and without compensation. If the inclusive arrangement is restricted or banned by any government agency, court or council in advance of your arrival, you have the right to cancel your holiday and request a full refund but this will be the extent of our liability. c. General i. On full board holidays lunch is not included on the first and last days. ii. Admission fees or guided tours are not included in the holiday price unless expressly stated in the excursion description. We reserve the right to change itineraries and included excursions from those stated in the brochure, where necessary, and this will not entitle you to compensation where such variations are a consequence of non-significant changes to your holiday. Please note that on cruise holidays onshore excursions incur an additional cost. iii. We reserve the right to prohibit travel should you be experiencing medical symptoms likely to cause ill health to others. It is therefore vital that you ensure you are fit to travel prior to arriving at the pick-up point, port or airport as full cancellation charges will apply should we be forced to terminate your holiday. We also reserve the right to refuse a booking or terminate your holiday and levy full cancellation charges in the event of irrational conduct that is likely to cause anxiety, annoyance, harm or danger to other passengers. iv. Should you leave any belongings at your accommodation or on a coach we will make every effort in tracing and returning them to you, although we do reserve the right to pass on any cost incurred in doing so. v. In the event of any contact being made with us, either directly by you, or by your Travel Agent, on any subject whereby information contained in this brochure is changed, or additional information given, you or your Travel Agent must ensure that the information given is confirmed in writing. No responsibility will be accepted for any loss, damage or disappointment if this procedure has not been followed. vi. On some holidays insurance is included in your holiday at cost. Should you make a claim under your insurance policy we can take no responsibility if this claim is disputed or refused by the insurer or for any additional expense incurred by you in making the claim whether successful or not. vii. Due to the overall weight and space restrictions on vehicles, luggage is limited to one medium size suitcase per person. Luggage on aircraft or other carriers is subject to the carrier’s terms and conditions, a copy of which can be sent to you on request. It is your responsibility to ensure luggage is fit for travel, sturdy and waterproof. viii. All holidays are sold subject to availability. ix. When travelling abroad food and entertainment may reflect local customs and tastes. x. Responsibility is limited for events which are reasonably beyond our control and unforeseeable. Examples of such events could include traffic or road conditions, unavoidable technical or mechanical transport problems, epidemic outbreaks, weather conditions, disputes, fuel shortages and fire. xi. Glenton has no control over other clients staying in your accommodation. We cannot accept liability for any inconvenience or disturbance caused to our holiday-makers by any other guest or guests staying during the same period. On Good Companions tours it is impossible for us to ensure in advance that all guests are over the age of 55 and we accept no responsibility for the fact that clients under this age may join our tours from time to time, with or without our consent.
4. Disabled holidaymakers
We welcome disabled passengers on our holidays, but some holidays may not be suitable, in our opinion, for your particular disability. Please ensure that the full extent of your disability is advised in a covering letter. Please also ensure that confirmation of your disability has been acknowledged. If we are not informed of any disabilities in this way we cannot be held responsible for any cost or inconvenience incurred. Should you cancel or terminate your holiday due to these reasons full cancellation charges will apply. Collapsible wheelchairs are accepted on coaches, with prior agreement, but battery/ motorised models are not on the grounds of safety to staff and other passengers. On cruise or air holidays, onboard policies regarding disabled holidaymakers may vary. If we are not advised of a disability at the time of booking, you may be refused travel.
5. Your travel arrangements
a. Departure Times and Places (Coach Holidays) i. It is only possible for customers to be picked-up and dropped off at the scheduled departure points as listed on brochure pages. Departure times shown in the brochure are approximate times only and are subject to change. Final travel times will be confirmed with your Final Travel Documents approximately 10 days before departure. ii. If you have not received your travel documents within 5 days of your departure date you must contact us immediately so that they may be re-sent to you or any new details confirmed as soon as possible. We cannot accept any responsibility for any loss or expense resulting if the above procedures have not been carried out. iii. You are responsible for ensuring that you are at the correct departure point at the correct time. We cannot accept any responsibility for you not locating your transport or any additional expenses incurred due to you failing to join your transport for the above reasons. iv. Where there is insufficient demand for the advertised departure route Glenton reserves the right to alter the route. v. Where we include home pick up, we can only collect from one address per booking. The service is limited to those areas advertised. b. Tour Coaches and Coach Seats i. If it becomes necessary to use a coach with different seat numbers to those shown in the booking form, the seat position should not change significantly. However, we cannot accept bookings conditional on the provision of specific seats and accept no liability if the seat provided is in a different position to that indicated in the published seating plan. Additionaly on rare occasions we reserve the right to change your seat number/s for operational reasons. Reserved seats are not allocated on transfer services or optional excursions. Although certain tours are advertised as having a coach with WC facilities, we reserve the right to operate a coach without such facilities should this become necessary due to mechanical failure, accident etc. From time to time connecting taxis and minibuses may be used on a transfer element of your holiday. ii. In the unlikely event of a premium coach being unavailable, for whatever reason, on Glenton Select tours we reserve the right to replace the vehicle with a regular coach. Clients will be refunded £5 per day and this will be the extent of our liability. c. Smoking For the comfort of the majority of passengers, all coaches are strictly no smoking including electronic cigarettes. If you ignore this rule we reserve the right to terminate your holiday and levy full cancellation charges. You may also be liable to meet the cost of any claims brought against Glenton resulting from such an incident. d. Porterage On some holidays porterage may not always be available and where it is you will usually incur a small extra charge. Porterage is usually not available at sea ports or airports for security reasons. e. Conditions of Carriage You are advised that overland carriage is in vehicles other than those owned or operated by Glenton and that no sea or air transport is owned by the company. Such transport is subject to national and international regulations and conventions which may limit or exclude liability – a copy of these are available if you wish to see them. Your contract is subject to English Law and jurisdiction. Not all coaches bear Glenton livery. f. Delayed Departure If your departure to or from the UK mainland is delayed for more than six hours beyond the scheduled departure time we will make arrangements for meals and alternative accommodation only if this delay results in the advertised meal and accommodation arrangements being cancelled. We cannot accept responsibility for any meals or accommodation not included in the advertised holiday itinerary. If departure from the UK mainland is delayed for more than twelve hours beyond the scheduled departure time we reserve the right to cancel the holiday and refund all monies paid and this shall be the extent of our liability. g. Airport Assistance Any passengers requiring airport assistance must request this at the time of booking. Failure to follow this procedure may result in assistance being unavailable. Cancellation charges will apply should you choose to cancel your holiday as a result.
6. Liability & consumer protection
The Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 require us to provide security for the monies that you pay for package holidays booked from this brochure and for your repatriation in the event of our insolvency. We provide this security by way of an ATOL (number 10494) – Air Travel Organiser’s Licence administered by the Civil Aviation Authority and a bond held by ABTA for packages that do not include flights. If you book arrangements other than a package holiday from this brochure, the financial protection referred to above does not apply. For your financial protection when you buy an ATOL protected air holiday package from Glenton Holidays Ltd, you will receive an ATOL Certificate from us (or via our authorised agent through which you booked). This lists the flight, accommodation, car hire and/or other services that are financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. Many of the flights and flight-inclusive holidays offered by Glenton Holidays Ltd in this brochure, other publicity material and on the website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. But ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services listed. Please ask us to confirm what protection may apply to your booking. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate then the booking will not be ATOL protected. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. For more information about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate go to: http://www.atol.org.uk/ATOLcertificate. We will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where we aren’t able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have
bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). In the unlikely event of our insolvency whilst you are on holiday, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad. For further information visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk. If you buy a package holiday that does not include a flight protection is provided by ABTA. We are a Member of ABTA, membership number Y0234 and we are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA's Code of Conduct. For further information please see http://www.abta.com/consumer-services. This brochure is published by Glenton in good faith and is designed to assist you in choosing a suitable holiday. We accept responsibility for ensuring that the component parts of your holiday as described in this brochure are of a reasonable standard and that the obligations arising from this contract are performed properly unless this non or improper performance is attributable neither to any fault of ours or to that of another supplier because i) the failures to perform the contract were attributable to you ii) such failures were attributable to a third party unconnected with the provision of the contracted services, and are unforeseen and unavoidable iii) such failures are due to force majeure or to an event which we, or the supplier of the service, even with all due care could not foresee or forestall. Even in the case of sections i and ii above we will still give prompt assistance to you but this shall be the extent of our liability.
7. Claims
a. Claims other than Personal Injury Subject to the foregoing we will pay reasonable compensation for the non or improper performance of the contract by us, limited at all times to twice the total cost of the holiday. b. Claims for Personal Injury Subject to the foregoing, all claims relating to personal death or injury will be equivalent to the damages you would be entitled to receive under English Law in an English Court provided at all times that: i. you assign to Glenton any rights against a supplier or other person or party you may have relating to the claim. ii. that you co-operate fully with us should we or our insurers wish to enforce those rights which have been assigned to us. iii. Such payment in the case of transport or air is limited to that laid down in the appropriate International Conventions. Note: Failure to notify us of your claim within 90 days of your return from holiday may affect our ability to investigate your claim and may impact on the way your claim is dealt with.
8. Data protection
In order to process your booking and to ensure that your travel arrangements run smoothly and meet your requirements, we and your travel agent need to use the information you provide such as name, address, any special needs/dietary requirements etc. We take full responsibility for ensuring that proper security measures are in place to protect your information. We must pass the information on to the relevant suppliers of your travel arrangements such as airlines, hotels, transport companies etc. The information may also be provided to security or credit checking companies, public authorities such as customs/ immigration if required by them, or as required by law. Additionally, where your holiday is outside the European Economic Area (EEA), controls on data protection in your destination may not be as strong as the legal requirements in this country. We will not however, pass any information on to any person not responsible for part of your travel arrangements. This applies to any sensitive information that you give us such as details of any disabilities, or dietary/religious requirements. If we cannot pass this information to the relevant suppliers, whether in the EEA or not, we cannot provide your booking. In making this booking you consent to this information being passed on to the relevant persons. You are entitled to a copy of your information held by us. If you would like to see this please contact D. Haig, Data Controller, Glenton, 30 Gordon Street, Glasgow, G1 3PU.
9. Price Policy
Before confirmation of your holiday we reserve the right to change prices from those advertised in this brochure. Having confirmed your holiday by sending your Holiday Confirmation Invoice, the price of your travel arrangements is subject to surcharges only on the following items. 1. Transportation – e.g. increases in fuel costs 2. Government action – e.g. any increases in VAT or any other tax imposed on us or required to be passed on by us 3. Currency – in relation to adverse exchange rate variations. However, even in these circumstances we will absorb or retain an amount equivalent to the first 2% of the price of your holiday, which excludes any insurance premiums and any amendment charges. Only amounts in excess of this 2% will be surcharged but where a surcharge is payable there will be an administration fee of £3 together with an amount to cover travel agents’ commission. If this means paying more than 10% on the holiday price, you will be entitled to cancel and receive a full refund of all monies paid. Should you decide to cancel because of this, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date printed on the revised invoice. Should the above mentioned price variations be downward then the price of your holiday will be accordingly reduced and any refund paid to you. Please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. The holiday prices published in this brochure were calculated according to exchange rates published in the Financial Times on 18 June 2013 Euro 1.168
10. Arbitration
In the event that you have any complaint during the course of your holiday you are strongly advised to immediately bring this to the attention of the supplier of the service in question AND the Glenton driver. If you are not satisfied with the solution offered you must
contact us in writing after returning home. We are unable to address complaints received more than 28 days after your return date and cannot be held responsible for any letters not received. In the unlikely event that we are unable to amicably settle your grievance, you may decide to pursue the matter further. One option is the ABTA Arbitration Scheme which is administered independently by the Institute of Arbitrators. It provides a simple inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on the customer in respect of costs. The scheme does not apply to claims for a greater amount than £5,000 per person or £25,000 per booking form, or to claims which are solely or mainly in respect of physical injury or illness. Details can be sent to you on request.
11. Health Matters
Clients travelling to EC countries are strongly advised to obtain the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) This card allows you access to state provided healthcare in all European Economic Area (EEA) countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or sometimes free of charge. Your local Post Office has application forms or you can apply online at www.ehic.org.uk or call 0845 606 2030. For travel overseas you are also advised to obtain the 'Health Advice for Travellers' leaflet from the Dept. of Health, your local ABTA travel agent or directly from ourselves. In the rare event of vaccinations being required, you will be advised on your holiday confirmation invoice.
12. Photo identification, passport and visa requirements
i. For cruises and holidays to Europe, you will require a full 10 year British passport with at least six months validity after your date of return to the UK. Passports are also required for day trips to European countries such as France or Belgium. ii. Holders of non-UK passports may be subject to differing visa requirements to those stated above. You are advised to consult your travel agent or the appropriate embassy to seek clarification. iii.
