Networking with Gas ARTICLE BY BRIAN PANICHELLE

Whether you are new to networking or a seasoned veteran here are three things to remember to fuel your growth with GAS—generosity, authenticity and sincerity. Generosity: It’s better to give than to receive. Today we are all tuned in to WIIFM—What’s In It For Me? In networking, it is about adding value to others and seeking the good of others above your own interest. To be a valued network partner you have to be generous, and add value to others before you ask for something from them. Authenticity: Be Yourself! We often times feel like we have to play a role, but this can be harmful. People have to be certain who you are and what you are about, so if there are “50 shades of you”, your connections are going to have a rough time trusting you. They never know which “you” they are going to get. So keep it simple - just be you. Be real, don’t try to be something you are not. Sincerity: Say what you mean and mean what you say! We all want to say and do the right things. Sometimes it is forced and insincere. Don’t pretend to like something that you have no interest in. Don’t patronize people to try to win their business or friendship. Be real, be honest, show integrity, don’t schmooze. So DO fuel your business and network with GAS—Give to others first without expectation of a return, Be yourself, just yourself and nothing but yourself, and finally say what you mean and mean what you say.

Taste the Good Life Charity Gala at DiSalvo’s Station Joey Disalvo and his family started the Taste the Good Life Gourmet Charity Gala in 1992 as a, five course dinner held at DiSalvo’s Station Restaurant in Latrobe, PA. This unique gourmet banquet was first served as a private event for a select group of food and wine aficionados. It is now a bi-annual event that has grown into a sumptuous charity gala with food stations throughout the restaurant which offer the best of food, wine, spirits, desserts, very fine cigars as well as entertainment, raffles and live auctions. The DiSalvo family saw the event as an opportunity to give back from their success. Many of the most worthy Western PA charities have been the beneficiaries of the Taste the Good Life proceeds. Come with your friends and enjoy the best of the Good Life and be a part of this grand tradition. DiSalvo’s Station Restaurant is a registered National Historic Landmark. Blood Science Foundation is the beneficiary of the April 2018 Taste the Good Life gala.

Taste the Good Life’s next gala will be held April 26, 2018 from 6:30pm to 11:00pm benefiting the Blood Science Foundation. For tickets or sponsorship opportunities by visiting tastethegoodlife.org Through philanthropy and grant making, the Blood Science Foundation’s mission is to support Central Blood Bank and the Institute for Transfusion Medicine’s (ITxM) other subsidiaries, in fulfilling their mission to advance cutting-edge research and provide a safe and ample blood supply that meets the needs of the healthcare communities, patients, and donors in our service areas. Note: All funds raised by the Blood Science Foundation at this event will be used solely for the benefit of Central Blood Bank which serves the transfusion needs of Western Pennsylvania’s regional hospitals. Central Blood Bank is a tax-exempt organization established to serve the transfusion needs of Western Pennsylvania hospitals. Central Blood Bank’s service areas include metropolitan Pittsburgh as well as more than 10 counties in western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio. Central Blood Bank currently collects, tests and distributes 140,000 units of whole blood to more than 50 hospitals and healthcare facilities in the tri-state area.

Make plans to attend chamber events this year The Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce’s events calendar for 2018 is filling up fast and that’s great news for 500-plus members of the organization. From bowling to banana splits, football to shooting clays and a myriad of things in between, the GLLV chamber has big plans to educate, entertain and help create support and opportunities for their members. We’re anticipating another extremely successful year from our calendar of events. These events continue to expand and take on more importance in the overall effectiveness of the Chamber,” Jerry Supko, chair of the GLLV board of directors, said. “Not only are they a benefit to our membership, but they play a major role in the financial health of the organization.” Following are among the things you can expect throughout the year: • The chamber’s sporting clays tournament will be held Tuesday, April 24 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort and is open to all shooters, experienced or novice. • The Excellence in Education Banquet, which will be held May 14 at Denunzio’s Italian Chophouse & Restaurant. The event recognizes top performing students at Derry Area, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg Central Catholic, Ligonier Valley, Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technical Center and Dr. Robert Ketterer Charter School. • If you’re into golf, the Annual Golf & Dinner Golf Classic at Arnold Palmer’s Latrobe Country Club in July is very popular and is a near-sellout every year. Register your four-some early! • Steelers Fest is held on the day of the Steelers’ annual Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. The event will be staged outside the stadium and will feature family friendly vendor booths, autograph sessions with former Steelers and a display of the team’s six Super Bowl trophies. • The Banana Split Celebration is a three-day weekend event in downtown Latrobe attended by nearly 35,000 people. This year the event will be held the weekend of August 24 – 26th. Celebrating the birthplace of the banana split, this weekend features activities, games, entertainment as well as delicious food vendors. • The Annual Dinner, held at Saint Vincent College, in October recognizes outstanding individuals and businesses in the community. Included in the the awards that will be presented is the Community Service Award, which has been awarded for over 50 years.

2018 Annual Sporting Clays Tournament On April 24, the annual Sporting Clays tournament will be held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort where participants, experience or novice, can enjoy the fast pace of shooting sporting clays. “Businesses are always looking for opportunities to entertain customers,” said event chair Janeen Moffa, the Vice‑President, Business Banker at S&T Bank in Greensburg. “Golf outings are one way but shooting clays outings like this one are another way. This is something fun and something different.” The day begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the competition begins at 10 later that morning. Before the event begins, participants can practice at the resort. At the end of the competition, a lunch will be provided, and there will be an awards ceremony. Moffa praised Seven Springs and the support from their staff. Seven Springs’ practice area has guides that will offer games to shooters who like a more challenging shoot. There are guns at every station on the course, although shooters can bring their own guns, as well. Raffle tickets will be sold prior to and on the day of the event, with the winner being drawn upon the conclusion of the competition to win a gun that was purchased from A & S Indoor Pistol Range in Youngwood.
