GLLV Chamber Presents Float in the Annual Latrobe Fourth of July Parade
This year’s Fourth of July was in the middle of record heat—but that didn’t stop attendees of all ages from lining the city streets to watch the annual parade!
This

Great
American Banana Split Celebration by creating an enormous replica of the local delight, but don’t worry, it didn’t melt in the sun! This float—adorned with pastel blue, pink, and yellow tulle—was assembled from fabric and took many hands to put together. To match

of
the
parade
“Through the Decades” - the staff dressed in white shirts, jeans, and keds while some of the biggest hits of 1950s and 60s played through the parade route. This
harkened on the 50s
nostalgia of a old fashioned soda fountain, just like the one where the banana split found its first home. It was
an all-American celebration for independence day.

29th Annual Golf Classic Supports Local Education Programs The 29th Annual Golf Classic presented by Xcoal Energy and Resources took place in early July at Arnold Palmer’s Latrobe Country Club. As the sun shined throughout the day, the foursomes completed the course before dinner time. Bob Ford, the long-time former head golf professional at Oakmont Country club, was present as the honorary chair of the event. There were various silent auction items raffled off to attendees, with the most popular live auction item being a round of golf at Muirfield Village Golf Club. This year, the golf classic raised $7,500 for the Greater Latrobe Partners in Education Foundation. The foundation support academic, art, and athletic programs in the Greater Latrobe School District. The check was presented to Jessica Urbanik, president of the foundation. The GLLV Chamber’s golf classic will be celebrating 30 years in 2019, so make sure you have your foursome ready to join us!

Authentic Banana Split Recipe We love Banana Splits—who doesn’t? This delicious dessert makes your taste buds dance with the mixture of cold ice cream, sweet bananas, and crunchy toppings. As Latrobe gears up for the upcoming Banana Split Celebration, one question arises: How do you make an authentic banana split? You can’t beat this summertime classic sundae, and there are many variations of this sweet treat. Use the recipe to guide you to recreate Dr. Strickler’s masterpiece! Ingredients:
1 perfectly ripe banana
1 scoop of each flavor of ice cream: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry
Sliced strawberry topping
Crushed pineapple topping
Chocolate syrup
Whipped cream
Crushed peanuts
Two Maraschino cherries
1.
Cut banana length-wise, and place side-by-side in the banana dish—you can purchase these dishes specifically made for banana splits!
2.
Scoop one scoop of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream on top of the banana.
3.
Top the vanilla ice cream with pineapple, chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup, and strawberry ice cream with strawberries.
4.
Spoon the peanuts over all three scoops of ice cream.
5.
Put a dollop of whipped cream on all three scoops of ice cream.
6.
Finalize the masterpiece with a cherry on chocolate and the strawberry ice cream.
Enjoy the authentic and classic sweet treat that was created in 1904! Join the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Chamber of Commerce for one sweet weekend at the Great American Banana Split Celebration - August 24th through 26th, in downtown Latrobe.
