WCNS Santa in the Park Stroll the streets of downtown Latrobe this Saturday to begin celebrating the joyful season of Christmas with local shopping, live music, food vendors, and many activities for families. The celebration would not be complete without a visit to Santa Claus during Santa’s Party in the Park, a 19-year tradition, sponsored by WCNS radio. The Holly Jolly Christmas in Latrobe committee has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the event. Downtown Latrobe is the place to be this Saturday, December 1st from 10 am - 3 pm. For the past several years, Latrobe radio station WCNS put together Santa’s Party in the Park on Black Friday, an event that ushered the Christmas spirit with an opportunity for children to see the delightful and cheery man with the long white beard in James M. Rogers Park. “Back in March, I got a call from the Holly Jolly committee, who asked about combining those two events,” said Brandon Kail, general manager of WCNS. The combined events created Holly Jolly Christmas in Latrobe featuring Santa’s Party in the Park, two traditional holiday events. Santa Claus will arrive atop a fire truck, parading into the park waiting for children to visit. As has been the tradition, treat bags will once again be handed out to children who visit with Santa. In case of rain, Santa’s party will be moved to the City’s Chambers. “Last year we gave out treat 250 bags and we anticipate that number to be around 300 this year,” Kail, said. Start writing your list for Santa now, so he can bring you lots of presents! Live music and entertainment will be free and will be performed throughout the day. “We’ll have live entertainment including Christmas carolers, a performance by Stage Right, routines by Laurel Valley Academy of Dance, instrumentals from Derry and Latrobe Marching Bands and vocalists. It’s going to be a festive atmosphere,” said Briana Tomack, president of the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, one of the nearly 20 participating organizations. Downtown stores will be open for shoppers on that day and there will be food vendors on the streets. The businesses that will be open are Adams Memorial Library, Chicora’s, Quatrini-Rafferty building, Latrobe Art Center, Graydog Comics & Toys, The Medicine Shoppe, Eclectique, Paper Heart Affairs, and Rose Style Shoppe. When you shop at three out of the eight stores, participants can get their cards marked and entered to win baskets of merchandise from all the stores. Children activities will include story time by Mrs. Claus, craft making and barrel train rides. Make sure you don’t miss out on this community holiday event, and share the extra special magic of Christmas with your friends and your family in Latrobe.
Stay tuned for alerts and more information posted on our Facebook page Greater Latrobe Laurel Valley Regional Chamber.

West-Land Chiropractic Success Patient Testimony: Duke Miller
Dr. Phillip Westerbeck and Dr. Patrick Landry, West-Land Clinic of Chiropractic (WestLandClinicLatrobe.com), opened their Latrobe Area practice in the Fall of 1994. Currently in the Lincoln Road Shopping Center, on Dailey Avenue. In 2012, Dr. Landry opened CrossFit Latrobe (CrossFitLatrobe.com) as a fitness extension of their Chiropractic practice. Both Doctors Landry and Westerbeck, along with Dr. Randall Orr, MD serve on the coaching staff. The following testimony was a patient of Dr. Pat Landry. Pat has been working with Duke Miller since 2017. Miller had been a patient of the clinic, but also trains at CrossFit Latrobe. Here is what Duke has to say about the experience: “I had just turned 65 and was suffering from hypertension and chronic neck and back pains. Several years ago I had triple bypass surgery with a couple stints. My health was in bad shape. I had abused my body as a young man, broke more than a dozen bones, from my skull and neck to my hand and foot (damn motorcycles). Plus I grew up in the 1970's, so the partying was on. Over the years, arthritis set in quite well. I had reached a point where my goal was to be able to walk more than a flight of steps without losing my breath. By December 2017, I was having some trouble with my back and a good friend sent me to West-Land Clinic of Chiropractic where I met Dr. Pat. As I felt better, I told him my next objective was to get back “into shape”. He invited me to check out CrossFit Latrobe, and I did. I was walked through the proper ways to do the exercises and lifts. His training was amazing. Believe me, after the first warm-up, I was shot. But, I made it through the workout. Starting my 4th month, I now go 3 days per week...Oh and I've made some good changes to my diet too. Yeah, I still “hurt” when I'm done, but it's a good hurt, and I always look forward to the next session. Here’s the good: It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my body and mind! My blood pressure went from averaging 140/80, or higher, to 115/60 (in just 3 months). I went from taking 3 different heart pills per day to only 2. I can now run up the steps and have the breath to run back down. Plus, I am not even close to being as sore with the arthritic pains as before.” -Duke Miller

In the past 39 years there have been more proud moments than we could list here. One example of a proud moment, when a widow client, who with her husband had build an Kenneth & Sharon Glenn of Estate Assurance. Antique Music Museum on their farm, was able to pass that Photographed by Judith Von Weiland museum on to her local community and continue that legacy for many generations to come. It continues to be visited and cherished by many since her passing. Another Significant example was finding a location for our office in downtown Latrobe 27 years ago. Can Anybody Hear Me? Written by Connections Made Simple, Brian Panichelle
People all around us, TV, Radio, Apps, Social Media, Email, Texts, Print Media, Auto-dialers, Meetings, Billboards! Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! Information is always flowing to and from us. With our brains (cellphones) in our hands, our screens and people in front of us and media all around us, we never get a break. We are often filtering multiple streams and sources of information all at one time! Can you hear me now? It seems that with all of the information available, we become less and less informed about what is going on around us. Understanding of our families, employees, customers, communities and our world seems to be diminishing. I submit to you that we are guilty of listening without hearing. We all listen to get information, but we don’t always hear what is being said. Sometimes we seem to be listening but we are really just waiting our turn to GIVE information. We all want to be heard, but are we hearing? We are all seeking to get our message out, either via an article in the chamber newsletter, or social media, advertising, or conversation, yet are we listening? Is anyone hearing? How many commercials do we like because they are funny but we don’t remember the product or the brand? How often do we get the facts but miss the point? We might listen, but we don’t hear. My challenge to all of us is to be present and to not only listen but hear not just to the words but to think about the point. Think about how many times you witness people talking past each other. They let each other speak and are listening but they do not hear what one another is saying. If you want to be heard, you must first learn to hear.
