SCHEDULE OF ACCOMODATION

SATELITE CBD TO INCLUDE: COMMERCIAL, MIXED-USE, HOUSING & CULTURAL CENTRE.

OBJECTIVES

• DEVELOP THE SITE INTO A VIABLE ND CBD & EXAMINE THE RELATION BETWEEN THIS PROPOSED SECONDARY CBD & THE MAIN CBD. • ENHANCE URBAN DESIGN COMPONENTS OF THE ISSUDP.

PROPOSAL CONCEPT

CONCEPT create a semi-autonomous satellite CBD through applying various principles of New Urbanismconcepts at different levels, considering different factors and proposals in the Thika ISUDP in order to create a smart, wholesome and sustainable Kiang’ombe & empower residents, especially economically.

Waterpark facing the CBD. An amusement park as well resulting from reclaimation of the swampand creation of an artificial lake for recreation and to act as a buffer between the CBD and surrounding zones of different uses.

Farm alotment abutting the swamp, facing the CBD. Farm alotment near swamp because of the fertile land and also to provide produce to the near by market centre within Kiang’ombe as well as contribute to its economy through selling of the produce from urban agriculture.

Circulation Plan Approach: • Major roads to be expanded to give a Distinct heirachy of roads. • High density along major transport networks. • Staggering road junctions to minimize traffic. • Provide pedestrian friendly roads as well as cyclists since they are the major mode of transport in the area.
