“A great way to make new international friends and learn real English while having a great English summer holiday Louise Lanzer, Spain 18

English in Action Our International students are immersed in the British way of life from the moment they arrive. Within the classroom students learn to improve their English skills developing their grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation alongside speaking, listening, reading and writing skills under the guidance of professionally qualified English language teachers. Outside of the classroom they practise these skills using English as their common language in our adventure activity sessions, whilst developing new friendships and learning about different countries and cultures.

What you need to know

English in Action can be added to our Multi-Activity holiday and is available at most camps.

7-10 11-14 15-17

All international students receive a minimum of 15 hours of fun, interactive language tuition per week in classes of up to 15. Upon arrival, students are split into mixed-nationality groups by age and ability to make sure they all get the most out of their time at camp. Campers spend a third of each day in structured language classes, with the rest of the day enjoying the many adventure activities available through the Multi-Activity programme. It is a great opportunity to put their new language skills into practice, with all activity sessions carried out in English. Each student will receive a certificate of English as well as an End of Course Report to highlight their progress when they leave.

Our people Our committed staff work tirelessly to ensure that every Camp Beaumont experience is exceptional, by creating safe and happy environments which make each holiday feel complete.

Activity Instructors

Our staff are hand-picked, based on their passion and experience – an approach which, we believe, makes Camp Beaumont that bit more special.

Every member of camp staff, from our instructors and Camp Coaches, to our catering and office staff, hold enhanced DBS checks. Each camp has fully trained first-aiders on site, and our night duty staff are on-hand after hours.

We search high and low to find the very best staff to work with – people who demonstrate patience, enthusiasm and a sincere desire to enhance the lives of our young guests. Many of our staff came to Camp Beaumont as children, so they know just what it takes to create truly outstanding memories.

A dedicated team Each camp has a dedicated on-site management team. Our Camp Managers, Welfare Managers and Programme Managers work together to ensure everything runs smoothly, and our Camp Coaches act as older siblings, by caring for each camper, answering their questions and keeping a responsible eye on them from dawn to dusk.

Our activity instructors are trained to the highest standards and receive regular health & safety updates, first aid training and welfare coaching. We assess all our staff on an ongoing basis to make sure that our standards never slip.

Transpor t Travelling within the UK Escorted travel Drop off and pick up your child at one of our prearranged points (see map), so that they can travel to and from camp, accompanied by our friendly Camp Beaumont Transport Team and their fellow campers. Most journeys are by coach (fitted with lap belts) but some routes may also involve trains.

Parent arranged travel If you would like to bring your child to camp yourself, you should drop them off between 3pm and 5pm on their first day and pick them up between 9am and 11am at the end of camp.

Travelling from abroad Escorted travel from airports The main UK airports (see map) are staffed by the Camp Beaumont team each Saturday – your child will be met in the arrivals terminal, once they have gone through passport control and customs and they will then join other students on our coaches to travel to the camp. Campers are supervised at all times.

44

We need your flight details at least six weeks before camp begins. If you cannot get flights at the times noted on our website, we will assist you in making alternative arrangements for your child to be transferred to and from the camp.

What if the flight is delayed? Our transport staff are in contact with our office and can support with any delays. All you need to do is contact us as soon as you become aware of any issues. If there are any delays or problems with a departure we will contact you on the number you provide us with, so if you are going to be on holiday yourself, do not forget to give us alternative contact details.

Transfers from Paris and Calais In addition, we offer transport from Paris via the Eurostar as part of our service. Please call your Camp Specialist on +44 (0) 1603 614 000 for more details.

FAQs Age groups Campers are split into 3 age groups (7-10, 11-14 and 15-17) for accommodation and activities. However, if siblings (of the same gender) would like to share accommodation or you feel that your child would be more comfortable with a group of younger or older children, please call us to discuss. Equipment We supply all specialist equipment (conforming to British or European standards), including approved buoyancy aids, which must be worn for all watersports. We continually update our safety equipment to reflect current best practices. Off-site activities On occasion, we venture off-site to explore the local area, perhaps visiting a nearby village, National Park or beach. Children entering the sea as part of a beach visit are always accompanied by a qualified Beach Lifeguard.

Q. Can I visit before deciding? A. Yes of course. Call us to arrange a free guided tour of any camp or attend one of our free taster days. Q. Will my child take part in all activities? A. With so much on offer, we cannot guarantee they will take part in everything but we’ll fit in as much as possible. Poor weather conditions can occasionally put some activities on hold or, they may be substituted with indoor activities.

46

Q. What happens if my child has chosen to focus on a certain activity but wants to go on an excursion at the same time? A. They can choose to miss part of their chosen activity to go on an excursion but we can’t offer any refunds. Excursions are restricted to certain days, so there can sometimes be an overlap. Q. How do you deal with welfare issues, like homesickness? A. Our staff hold welfare as a priority and each camp has an on-site Welfare Manager, who is expert at turning tears into smiles and helping children get fully involved in camp life. We’ll contact you if we’re concerned and you’re welcome to call our team if you have any worries. Q. How do I contact my child? A. We have activities planned from dawn till dusk so there isn’t much free time, and it’s important for everyone to settle into camp routines without home contact during the first weekend. If you need to get in touch, please email or telephone the camp by midday Monday-Thursday and we will do our best to arrange a phone call for the same evening. Q. Can my child take their mobile phone? A. Yes, but we discourage this to minimise loss, theft or damage and to help prevent homesickness. We are unable to accept responsibility for mobile phones and have clear policies on their use, particularly during activities, meal times or at night when others are sleeping. We also recommend leaving iPods and laptops etc. at home as we can’t look after them and they’re not covered by our insurance. Q. Do you have a Code of Conduct? A. Yes – you’ll receive a copy in your welcome pack, which you and your child should sign and return. Campers are made aware of the camp rules upon arrival and throughout their stay.

For a more detailed list of FAQs, please visit www.campbeaumont.co.uk/faqs Q. Can my child share a room with a friend or sibling? A. We’ll do our best to keep friends together – just let us know who they want to share with when you return your Welcome Form. Dorms are arranged by age and gender, therefore it is not possible for brothers and sisters to share.

Q. What should my child bring to camp? A. We’ll send you a full packing list once you’ve booked. You’ll need suitable outerwear, such as decent waterproofs, footwear and casual clothes. Please make sure you label all items with a full name. We provide all specialist equipment and safety kit.

Q. What time do campers go to bed? A. It varies for each age group but 9.30pm is the norm for younger children and 11pm for the oldest campers. Once ‘lights out’ is called, our night duty staff take over – they reassure the anxious and settle the high spirited until all is quiet, then continue to monitor the accommodation throughout the night.

Q. What about pocket money? A. We recommend up to £10 per day. We have a small shop on camp, with souvenirs, snacks and drinks. We offer a ‘bank’ style facility where campers can keep their money safe, withdrawing a little each day to spend at camp or during excursions.

Q. What about children’s hygiene? A. Campers are encouraged to wash and shower daily. Younger campers are supervised for teeth and hair brushing and older campers receive gentle reminders when needed. We offer a laundry service for children staying longer than one week.

Q. Can I drop my child off and pick them up from camp? A. Yes, of course – this is our most popular method of arrival. Drop them off between 3pm and 5pm on their first day and pick them up between 9am and 11am at the end of camp. Early arrival or late collection may result in additional charges.

Q. How secure are the accommodation buildings during the day? A. All accommodation buildings are secured during daytime activities. If your child needs to get something from their dormitory, their Camp Coach can let them in, but we discourage entry during the day, to concentrate on having fun.

Q. My child has a medical condition or behavioural issues - can they still come? A. Please call us to discuss specific details before booking your holiday. We pride ourselves on our truly inclusive camps, and it’s rare that we can’t host a child, but there may be occasions where camp life isn’t suitable. The more information we have in advance, the better we are positioned to confirm suitability. We reserve the right to send individuals home at their parents’ expense with no refund if their behaviour adversely affects the enjoyment, safety or welfare of others.

Q. What’s the food like? A. Our food is suitable for the fast-paced activity holiday environment, with freshly prepared meals and varied menus. We encourage campers to try new things and even get most of them to try the salads! Please let us know of any special requirements before arrival.

Any changes to routes or times will be notified to You as soon as is reasonable and where possible a suitable alternative will be provided or a refund will be offered. 6.10 In an instance where a child is seen by our first aiders and has been deemed to be well, if a parent then requests the child to be taken to a doctors’ surgery or hospital and a taxi journey is involved, you may be liable for the cost of the journey. Where this is the case, we will endeavour to contact you to authorise the payment.

6.11 Supervised off-site visits may be included in some Holidays without prior notice to You. If You do not wish your Child to participate in such offsite visits (which may include, amongst other things, beach walks, local shop visits, etc) it will be Your responsibility to inform us prior to the Arrival Date. 7.
