Joining them are award-winning directors, producers, writers, actors, and other creative media professionals from across the globe. Together, they are tasked to determine this year’s winners from entries coming from over 50 countries*.

MARISSA FLORES With years of industry experience, Flores brings both leadership and creativity to the role as head of GMA’s News and Public Affairs (N&PA) Group, in the process propelling it to become the country’s most awarded and most credible broadcast news organization. On top of being a Grand Jury member, Flores will also be part of the NYF’s Advisory Board. In 2020, amid the challenges brought by the pandemic, GMA N&PA continued to provide the public with the much-needed news and information on air and online while sparking hope and inspiration through various innovative shows and projects. GMA News led all Philippine media organizations in video viewership across all digital platforms for the said year while digital powerhouse GMA Public Affairs recorded a total of 80 million followers across popular platforms. GMA Public Affairs also reached 10 million subscribers on YouTube in April 2020, making GMA Network the first Philippine media organization to receive two Diamond Creator Awards from the streaming site.

*All NYF judges are prohibited from judging entries from their own companies.

NESSA VALDELLON Valdellon is behind some of the country’s most ground-breaking and compelling public affairs programs and specials. GETTING BY THE MARGINS

Sanya, or Shaira Lenn Osuna Roberto in real life, did a lot of moving around, transferring from one province to another in search of a home, during her growing up years. She never met her dad who passed away when she was just two years old. And making ends meet in the midst of life’s hitches meant living away from her mom and her brother, Jak Roberto. “Dumating sa point na ako nasa Bulacan, kuya ko nasa Laguna, mommy ko nasa Manila, nagke-caregiver,” she recalls. “’Yung kuya ko nag-aaral ng college sa Santa Cruz, Laguna. Ako naman nag-aaral ako ng high school dito sa Bulacan. Sanya aimed to be a nurse, thinking the job would help her family rise from poverty. She also thought of becoming a chef, a passion borne out of hours in the kitchen cooking up whatever their measly budget afforded her and her lola. In the rare times she would get to travel to Manila, she would find herself passing by the walls of GMA Network and marveling at the gigantic billboards of Kapuso celebrities. That always piqued her curiosity, and she began to dream. Sanya admits, “Kapag nadadaanan ko ’yung GMA Network kapag lumuluwas kami, sabi ko nung bata ako, ‘Ano kaya ang itsura ng loob ng GMA?’ May ganun ako.

Ang dami kasing artistang may tarpaulin, billboard.” A series of fortunate events followed soon after. She visited Jak at the nowdefunct variety show Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman, where she was eventually discovered by the starmaker himself, German “Kuya Germs” Moreno. Sanya started living her dream.

TAKING CONTROL

“‘Mag-artista na ba talaga ako? Ito na ba talaga ’yung gusto ko mangyari?’ Ganun na ’yung nasa isip ko. Inisip ko rin ’yung pagaaral ko, paano na? Kasi siyempre sayang. Sanya was, after all, in the honor’s roll in her second year of high school when she decided to pursue showbiz. She tried her best to make her schedules work. She’d pack her things for taping, bring them to school, then take the bus to Quezon City after her classes had been dismissed. This was her routine until she graduated from high school and decided to commit to showbiz full time. Her patience and sacrifices eventually paid off. She started taking on bit parts in GMA shows like Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko (2013), Dormitoryo (2013), Magdalena (2012-2013), and The Half Sisters (2015). She became a household name when she breathed life into Danaya in the retelling of the hit fantasy series Encantadia in 2016.

“…kailangan mong lakasan ’yung loob mo… Maging totoo ka lang... Ang importante wala kang inaapakan na tao, wala kang inaagrabiyadong tao para marating mo ’yung bagay na ’to.”

BUILDING HER DREAMS

Her life might have drastically changed since but a big part of Sanya remains the same. She continues to be a risk-taker. And she steadily works on her dreams. Less than five years into stardom, Sanya has headlined her own drama series and a film. She has also scored endorsements, and sashayed her way to stints for various fashion shows and photo shoots. Asked about how she sees herself in the next five years, her face swells with light and hope. “I have my own business. I have my own house, siguro houses. Wow, houses! Siguro may boyfriend naman na ako nun, ’no? (laughs) Nakakatawa pero, siguro ano pa?” she teases herself. “I’m very happy na with my family, mommy ko and kuya ko. May time na kami na magbakasyon na magkakasama. Nagbabakasyon siguro kami noon by that time. Stable na kami, feeling ko,” she smiles with content as she predicts the future.

With all the unexpected yet beautiful twists in her life, Sanya keeps being humble, but she doesn’t forget to give herself a pat on the back for all the good and the right things that she has done. She tells her old self, “‘Little Shai, ang lakas ng loob mo na kinaya mo ’yung mga ganitong bagay at a younger age. May mga pagsubok na siyempre hindi ganun kadali, pero ang importante nalagpasan mo ’yun. ’Tsaka nakuha mo ’yung mga bagay nang wala kang inapakang kahit sino mang tao at nagpakatotoo ka sa sarili mo.’” She doesn’t intend to slow down nor doubt and second-guess herself anymore. She takes responsibility of all her chances and blessings, the power which was once elusive from her. She cheers herself on, “‘Hindi pa dito nagtatapos ang pangarap. Marami ka pang kailangang tuparin. Marami ka pang malalaman, matututunan sa buhay mo. Basta wag kang mapagod. Darating ’yan pero daanan mo lang, ’wag mo tambayan. Kaya mo ‘yan. Pagsubok lang ’yan, sabi nga nila. Kaya mo ’yan, lakasan mo lang loob mo. May tiwala ako sa ’yo.’”

ow do you escape from the ghost of your past if the thing that you ran away from comes back to you? Following the highly successful airing of the first season last year, GMA grants the clamor of viewers and netizens as the one-of-a-kind drama series I Can See You returns for a second season with new and exciting stories to watch out for headlined by some of the Network’s brightest stars.

THE STORY Versatile Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid and talented actress Shaira Diaz are to bring romance and mystery in this series. THE CAST Ruru, who breathes life into the character of Jerrick Alfonso, feels challenged for his role in the series, “This is the first time na gumawa ako ng ganitong klaseng role and it was very hard kasi sobrang iksi lang ng time namin dito. Kailangan ko agad ma-build ‘yung character ko and ‘yung chemistry namin ni Shai and ng iba pang cast. But I am very excited na mapanood ng viewers ito. To be honest, kinilig din ako doon sa ‘kawa’ scene naming dalawa.” Shaira shares what she ought for the viewers to take away from watching the series, “Gusto kong mapanood dito ng mga tao is ‘yung journey ni Raki after niyang maging runaway bride, kung bakit at ano talaga ‘yung naging rason ng pagtakbo niya. ‘Yung character kasi ni Raki, marami siyang imagination so gusto kong dalhin ‘yung audience sa ganoon. ‘Yung story ni Raki itself nakatulong siya sa akin so sana ma-feel din ng viewers ‘yung naramdaman ng character ko.” On My Way To You also features the special participation of Mr. Richard Yap as George

Alfonso, Jerrick’s dad who loves to gamble but never gambled his heart again after losing his wife. Joining the powerhouse cast of this episode are Gil Cuerva as Albert Manansala, Raki’s groom-to-be who is almost too perfect; Malou de Guzman as Manang Baby, caretaker of the mountain lodge where Raki stays; Ashley Rivera as Lani, Raki’s practical and sensible best friend; and Arra San Agustin as Tammy Razon, Jerrick’s poised bride-to-be who fled on their wedding day.

THE CREATIVE TEAM This original series, created by the GMA Entertainment Group, is headed by SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, VP for Drama Redgie A. Magno, AVP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Senior Program Manager Anthony R. Pastorpide, and Executive Producer Darling PulidoTorres. The series is under the helm of esteemed director Mark Reyes V.
