Gotta Find ’Em All!

This week leads up to Easter, a time of celebration, reflection and family fun. And what’s more synonymous with family fun than the Easter egg hunt? Searching all over for the next hidden treasure, trying to fi ll up your basket? And it’s in the spirit of this festive tradition that we present the Las Vegas Magazine Easter egg hunt! Sure, most of you know all about the Strip’s famous o erings like David Copperfield, Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group, but this week’s issue contains a few ... o -the-beaten path treats. Not exactly hidden like eggs, but they’ll still produce the same feelings of joyous discovery as you fi ll up your basket—um, wish list.

First up is the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, which recently installed the exhibition In Bloom (“Delights of Spring,” p. 34), which will be on display until Sept. 10. For art lovers, this may be one of the best shows that the property’s art gallery has ever hosted.

Dig a bit deeper and you’ll fi nd an interview with Jackson Williams. The dancer in Magic Mike Live Las Vegas at Sahara Las Vegas has a lot to say about his role in the show—and in the franchise’s latest movie (“Creative Channels,” p. 32).

Who doesn’t love a great spa experience? Odds are some of you already have your favorite on the Strip, but you might want to add one more to your must-visit list: The Spa at Palms, a full-service facility that’s ready to pamper you until you say stop (“Treat Yourself,” p. 20).

Ever heard of M5LV The Residency? Maybe not, but you’ll certainly know the band performing a series of shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM (“Easier to Breathe,” p. 38). Hint: The lead singer was on The Voice.

Spring Fling

Have a fine time at Cosmopolitan steakhouse’s weekend brunch

If you are in town this week, do yourself a favor and indulge in brunch. At STK, you’ll find a full weekend brunch menu that features not only twists on the typical breakfast, but the world-class steakhouse’s revered beef selections and seafood as well.

The first thing you’ll order, though, is a drink, and mimosas and Bloody Marys are offered in all-you-can-drink options (within a time limit of course; and you must order an entrée).

Seafood is a favorite of many a brunchgoer, and you’ll find plenty here. Oysters on the half shell are served with cocktail and mignonette sauces; and Alaskan king crab comes with green goddess dressing. Tuna tartare, yellowtail crudo or seafood towers are sure to make the table happy. The Lil’ Brgs, miniature burgers, will undoubtedly satisfy your sense of whimsy.

If you feel like a breakfast dish, choose from a pair of specialty Benedicts, the smoked pork belly Benedicts, and the lobster and eggs Benedict with caviar hollandaise.

Avocado toast, cinnamon French toast, pictured, hot chicken and waffles and a wagyu BKFT burger with bacon and eggs round out the offerings.

The beef here is sourced mainly from the American Midwest and covers all manner of preferences from small 6-ounce filets to an 18-ounce bone-in ribeye, with a variety of sauces, decadent butters and add-ons. Order a few sides, too, like Parmesan truffle fries or sweet corn pudding.

For dessert, there are sweet treats like doughnuts with maple glaze and candied pecans; flourless chocolate cake; apple pie with salted caramel and bourbon vanilla ice cream; and a warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream.

If you are in for Easter dinner, ask your server about STK’s specials for the day; you are certain to enjoy something great, like Colorado lamb T-bones with green peas and mint; slow-roasted prime rib; or a veal chop . –Nina King

Achieving Perfection

Decades of delicious dining come together in Vegas venue

One of the most revered names in modern Chinese dining, Mr Chow opened in Las Vegas in late 2015. The opening not only brought stars flocking to Caesars Palace to experience the bigger-in-Vegas restaurant, which features a magnificent chandelier that produces a lighting show each night, and the Beijing-inspired menu that the restaurants are known for (there are six other locations). It’s a menu that’s designed to elicit a feel of traditional Chinese cuisine.

Said founder Michael Chow (and a food star in his own right) in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine ’s Kiko Miyasato shortly after the restaurant opened, “First of all, the intention of Mr. Chow is really not to do with business. (It’s) more to do with my personal, internal desire and need to fulfill or to recapture my country, my parents. To me, China has always been the greatest country in the world. So my journey of life is expressed through the cuisine of China. To show respect, how great Chinese cuisine, Chinese culture, Chinese people are.”

Some of the dishes you will want to experience on your journey include Mr Chow noodles, a delight touted on the menu as “The classic handmade Beijing noodles Mr Chow introduced to the West in 1968”; the Gamblers Duck, which is delivered with plum sauce and steamed pancakes; and whole fish. In Las Vegas, specialties of the house include squid ink rice noodles, dressed Dungeness crab; and ma mignon, with a recipe that dates back to 1975. With the semi prix fixe menu, you can experience two courses for a set price, including Beijing duck, which is separately roasted for each order in a Beijing Duck oven. You can almost taste the skin now, right?

Other popular dishes include the green prawns (a dish that inspired pop artist Keith Haring’s 1986 painting, Mr. Chow as Green Prawn in a Bowl of Noodle, a dynamic, fun piece that captures the zeitgeist of the restaurant) and Beijing chicken with walnuts. –Nina King

Well-rounded comedian keeps himself bustling Fluffin’

Whether you’ve watched his comedy specials, seen his clips online or caught one of his big-screen cameos, chances are you’ve encountered Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias. After all, the wildly popular comedian is one of the mostwatched comedians on YouTube and has amassed more than 25 million fans across social media.

Through tales of adventures with longtime friend and fellow comedian Martin Moreno, his experiences

traveling the world and hilarious observations, Iglesias has become a fan-favorite storyteller. Not to mention, his incredibly likable personality and upbeat demeanor make his comedy the perfect, uplifting entertainment.

You may have also enjoyed his voice in some of your favorite animated masterpieces like Coco, The Book of Life and The Nut Job, where his comedic talents shine through each character he voices. It’s also quite possible you’ve

enjoyed the man in some live-action treats like Magic Mike XXL and Mr. Iglesias, a Netflix original series where the funnyman plays himself as a teacher.

Magic duo thrills with an updated bag of tricks

After Penn & Teller returned to the Vegas stage following the pandemic shutdown, they had a much different show than the one before. Yes, there was still the pleasurable opening segment, with Penn jamming on upright bass with virtuoso pianist Mike Jones through such songs as “Blister in the Sun,” “I’m Walkin’,” “Caravan” and “Take the A Train.” But that’s where longtime fans of the show begin to notice … changes.

As Penn explained in one of their shows, the duo and their support team went 421 days without doing their headline show. They put that time to good use with a whole slew of new tricks, incorporating such elements as decks of cards, disappearances and fire. Rather than eliminate audience participation, Penn & Teller adjusted and adapted, and the show flows as smoothly as ever.

Penn’s elucidations on magic-related subjects such as the misappropriation of the term “misdirection” and sideshows seem more engrossing than previously. Gratitude toward the crew is profusely expressed. Teller is poetry in motion, indicating back surgeries have been successful enough to

allow him to continue to work at the craft he loves. He still has a way with goldfish that causes the audience to collectively respond with an involuntary “Ahhhhh!”

Nine of the tricks in the set are brand new. It’s easier to witness the threading of a ribbon through doughnuts than to explain what’s magical about it, and any animals suddenly appearing onstage are too terrified of the audience to leave the stage. “Lies, cheats, swindles, rip-offs,” says Penn. “That is what we do.”

A magician named Jandro is an integral part of one trick, fulfilling a Fool Us promise to feature winners from the show. It’s fast-paced, and at times intimate-feeling due to Penn’s heartfelt reminisces of his exposure to magic acts and other illusory endeavors. Penn & Teller are the ultimate sideshow act, passing on the senses of wonder they were inoculated with at young ages and performing with apparently endless wells of ingenuity.

“Why do we do it?” asks Penn rhetorically in their shows. “Because this is our tent.” –Matt Kelemen

At the top of Resorts World Las Vegas, you’ll find one of the more beautiful venues in the Las Vegas Valley, Alle Lounge on 66. The 66th-floor oasis is accessed through its own elevators down a corridor leading to Conrad Las Vegas. Jump on, and you’ll be whisked up, up and away.

Inside, you’ll find floor-to-ceiling windows that look down the Vegas Strip, with groupings of lush chairs and couches arrayed in front of them. You’ll find live music and/or DJs keeping the place lively each night.

A massive bar makes the perfect place to hang out, and the specialty cocktails issuing from behind the bar top (there is a two-beverage minimum) are delicious. Strip property offers several different pool experiences

Splashing into pool season means more ways to enjoy the city of Las Vegas, and The Cosmopolitan is one property that offers several options to get your pool partying on.

Begin with the Boulevard Pool, where you can enjoy a huge multilevel deck with views of the Strip. The soaking lounge chairs are one of the coolest features here, half-submerged in the cool, shallow waters, perfect for relaxing. For an elevated experience, pool partiers can book a cabana or daybed.

Day drinking is fabulous here, thanks to a delicious specialty cocktail menu with highlights like Cake by the Ocean, mixed with Bacardi Dragonberry rum, Whistling Andy hibiscus coconut rum, Lustau Manzanilla Papirusa sherry, guava, lime, mint and soda, or the bubbly and sweet Champagne on Ice with Moët & Chandon Ice Impérial champagne, Belvedere Organic Infusions blackberry and lemongrass vodka, St-Germain elderflower liqueur and lemon blue raspberry.

Nightlife is the right life for this VIP operations manager Kara Luden

In the world of nightlife, Kara Luden is a big deal. You can spot the Pennsylvania native at the entrance to one of the Strip’s biggest—in size and popularity—nightclubs, Drai’s at The Cromwell. “I’m manning the ship downstairs,” says Luden, the VIP operations manager for the club. “I’m quarterbacking.”

Not only is Luden a top female executive in a historically male-dominated industry, she also oversees more than 20 VIP hosts at the club and sets all the prices for table purchases for both the nightclub and dayclub, in addition to

brainstorming with the marketing team on what new parties and artists to bring to the club.

Before she joined Drai’s in 2017, Luden had a long history in the Las Vegas nightlife scene, nearly two decades worth. “Once you’re in nightlife, nothing matches the energy you feel when you walk into a club and everyone is singing and dancing and around their favorite artists,” she says. And Luden has enjoyed some of the nights at Drai’s, catching incredible performances, she says, by Wiz Khalifa and Ne-Yo.

“I’m here during dayclub operations, I go home, spend some time with my two pit bulls, take a nap and then I’m back here for the nightclub. You have to really love nightlife to work in it. It’s wild. You have to love it to stick with it. I’ve done a lot of other things to know this is where I want to be, and here I have the most fun.” –Kiko

The Bedford by Martha Stewart re-creates the look and cuisine of her New York home

You may never get personally invited to Martha Stewart’s home, but at The Bedford by Martha Stewart, it kind of feels like you have been. It starts with the appearance of the venue—a façade of her home has been re-created, inviting millions of Strip visitors in to discover what the food is like at Stewart’s 1925 New York farmhouse.

As you would expect from a restaurant with the domestic doyenne’s name on it, presentation is everything here. Some of what you will enjoy is brought to you on a cart and prepared tableside, from dishes to cocktails. That means when you order the herbed bread crumb-stuffed roast chicken (either a half or full), it will become quite the production for you and those at your table.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves (what would Martha say?). You’ll want to start your experience here with a cocktail, and for vodka fans and those wanting that Instagram moment, the obvious choice is the Martha-tini, made with Zubrowka bison grass vodka, dry vermouth and a lemon twist, all shaken tableside and made in a portion big enough for the entire group. Elsewhere, all your favorites are here, from Old-Fashioneds and Manhattans to the classic Sazerac and the Martha-rita.

Appetizers here are something special, especially Big Martha’s pierogies (her mother’s special recipe, which can be topped with golden Osetra caviar and sour cream for an additional charge), oysters Rockefeller and the house-made bread basket, a selection of JuneBug’s garden flatbreads, grape-rosemary focaccia and warmed Parker House rolls.

You may be tempted to just stop right here (you’re going to be feeling really good by this point), but then you’d miss delights like honey mustard-glazed salmon with wilted spinach and confit

shallots, Couscous Royale topped with roasted lamp chops, lamb risole, chicken thighs and harissa vegetables, and a frisée salad with bacon lardons, poached egg and lemon Dijon vinaigrette.

There’s also a great steak selection here, from a 10-ounce prime filet to a 24-ounce prime bone-in ribeye, both served with braised leeks and watercress and accompanied by either bordelaise or bearnaise sauce. Whichever you choose, make sure to pair it with one of the sensational sides. The obvious choice is Martha’s smashed baked potato, smashed tableside and served with crème fraîche, chives and bacon lardons (or, for an additional cost, golden Osetra caviar, crème fraîche and chives). We also recommend the four-cheese macaroni and cheese, seared shishito peppers and Big Martha’s potato purée.

Please save room for dessert! Any one of the sweet treats here is worth your hard-earned dollars. The upside-down lemon meringue pie, milk chocolate pistachio tart and classic crème brûlée will all make you smile, but we particularly recommend the “Mile High” chocolate cake. It may not be that high, but it sure feels like it when you’re done!

THE MIND-BENDING WORLD OF LAS VEGAS’ MEOW WOLF OUTPOST

Putting your finger on Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart is nearly impossible. It’s a transportive, maximalist art installation, rooted in the foundation of a dense, explorative narrative. It’s a place to play and a place to study. It’s the anchor experience at Area15 and Meow Wolf’s largest installation to date, totaling 52,000 square feet. Omega Mart’s art director, Spencer Olsen, describes it as “a psychedelic sci-fi mystery that invites you to investigate as an in-world participant … or a big, fun, explorable art exhibit!” It’s utopian and somewhat dystopian. It’s an experience that refuses to be pinned down—one in which you’re allowed to stumble into a world that’s adjacent to yours, but also lightyears away. Here’s a topline look at the multidimensional environments that beg to be explored, and then explored again.

THE STORY

As you travel through Omega Mart, a rich and complex narrative begins to develop using audio, video and print media. The timeline of the story goes back hundreds of thousands of years, and breadcrumbs are scattered throughout the exhibit for visitors to uncover. THE EXPERIENCE

Described as “America’s most exceptional grocery store,” walking into Omega Mart is the beginning of an adventure. “At Meow Wolf, we like to introduce visitors to our permanent exhibitions in a way that’s familiar, whether that be a seemingly average neighborhood home—as with the House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe— or a grocery store like we have with Omega Mart,” Olsen said. “From there, we present opportunities to expand one’s way of thinking, and new ways to experience otherwise average tasks and processes through the exploration of creative narratives.” As soon as you drop into Omega Mart, other exhibits come into focus, with four main anchor spaces in the exhibit.

Yes and no, but you’ll have to dive in to find out. “For the narrative deep divers, there are similarities,” Olsen said. “They are completely different artistically and experientially, but there is an underlying sub-fiction in stories about groups and entities with the ability to travel between worlds. There will be more revealed around these relationships between the stories in Denver and other future exhibits.”

I’ve heard someone describe it as ‘healing,’ which is as good of an experience as I can think of. Uploaded Ghosts, by Stephen Hendee, with musical collaboration by Beach House, feels like the artistic and emotional summit of the show,” Olsen said.

Jackson Williams makes the right moves with Magic Mike Live Las Vegas

U.K.-born dancer and actor Jackson Williams has been an essential piece of the team behind Magic Mike Live Las Vegas since the original version of the show made its debut in 2017 at what was then the Hard Rock Hotel. The striking performer had already shared the spotlight with superstars such as Whitney Houston and Robbie Williams when this intriguing new show came calling, and leaping at the chance to take up residency in Las Vegas proved to be the right move for Williams, who stuck with the show when it moved to Sahara Las Vegas and then landed a role in the third installation of Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike film franchise. He’s shown his moves onstage and screen, and he’s just getting started.

I was doing a world tour with Ellie Goulding when I got the call. I already had this career, I had danced for a lot of people, and I was very happy traveling the world, and then this came up. I thought, why not? I packed my bags and met the lads in L.A. to start rehearsals and, remember, I got off the plane with just a backpack and a suitcase thinking this might be a year or two. Now it’s been nearly six. This journey has been crazy because I was living out of a suitcase for so long, and it’s nice now to have a home and a family.

I could have, but I chose to stay in Vegas with the original show. When you start something and work so hard on something like this, you become

more proud of it than what you ever thought it could turn out to be. I’m thankful I did that and that I had the opportunity to stay, and then we ended up shooting the movie last year, which was an absolute dream come true.

I feel like a lot of people will watch the film and be inspired and go watch the show to see the difference. We don’t have Channing Tatum or Salma Hayek, but the show is very funny, and we have female hosts that are so funny and keep us laughing every night. But (the movie) was a tick off the bucket list for me. I’ve done more than I can remember as far as TV, advertisements and performances with some of the greatest stars on the planet. I’ve been very blessed. But my goal was always to be in a film or something to have this type of experience on camera. It’s definitely something I’m very proud of.

It was great. Shooting 18 hours nonstop, your body is definitely tired, but with the adrenaline rush we all had, it was like we didn’t even need sleep. It was phenomenal.

There are a few things I’d like to do within the acting world that would be great, because I feel like you could do that forever. I’d love to get more into film, maybe some action stuff, because that would tick off another dream. You always wonder how something like this might open a door for something else, but right now I’m just so happy to be part of Magic Mike and I always have been. We are very passionate about what we do and we’ve always (received) so much good feedback in Las Vegas as we entertain and inspire people.

Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art has always been a refuge for aesthetes, a quiet contrast with the kinetic atmosphere of the outside world. Current exhibition In Bloom goes a step further with a collection that celebrates the spring season of rebirth, renewal and rejuvenation. Open through Sept. 10, the 30 pieces range from small still lifes and landscapes to walllength wonders and large-scale sculptures that collectively represent humanity, change and transformation.

Szántó,” said Beehn during a tour. “He’s constantly traveling the world and was in Santa Fe for something else and was invited to tour the Tia Collection.”

Amazed, Szántó contacted Beehn and connected her with the Tia team. The Tia Collection’s blend of 20th century art from the American Southwest and

visions from contemporary, globally recognized artists provided a fertile pasture from which Beehn could curate an exhibition. Bellagio’s botanical department helped physically transform the gallery by covering every inch of surface in the foyer with an abundance of flowers that creates the impression that the environment guests are about to enter is indeed distinct.

A trio of oil paintings by early 20th century artists Nicolai Fechin, Ralph Meyers and B.J.O. Nordfeldt comes into view upon entrance, each complementing the other with their color schemes. Nordfeldt’s Still Life with Grapefruit creates the illusion of a table tipping while items on its surface seem to remain

and Light. A mirror nearly 6 feet high and 4 feet wide was divided into puzzle-like pieces that were attached to wood panels covered with di erent colors of jute fabric. The reflection of the viewer becomes part of the art.

Viewers may see something of themselves in Yinka Shonibare’s stunning Bling Painting as well. Twenty-seven round disks are mounted on a golden backdrop, each with an African fabric center encircled by variously themed bric-a-brac representing war, luxury and religion. A life-size bronze sculpture of Alice in Wonderland jumping rope by surrealist Salvador Dalí stands in the center of the room, positioned perfectly against a backdrop of a hauntingly gorgeous edge-of wilderness landscape painting by Dan Colen, Mother (Distant Town), that is one of a series inspired by Disney’s Lady and the Tramp.

While many additional visually arresting works are part of In Bloom, two sculptures are particular highlights. Nick Cave’s rococo Soundsuit 8:46, a response to the killing of George Floyd, stands tall in one room while Tamara Kvesitadze’s stainless steel Man and Woman consists of two figures sliced into horizontal layers that intersect with each other as they rotate on round platforms. It’s a spin on the cyclic nature of rebirth that fits very well with the diverse o erings of In Bloom.

It will be the first time Maroon 5 plays Dolby Live at Park MGM as well, with 16 dates scheduled through Aug. 12. The three-time Grammy Award-winning sextet has been together in one form or another for nearly 30 years now, with lead singer

Adam Levine and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Carmichael the sole remaining members from their teenage days as Kara’s Flowers. Guitarist James Valentine has been on board since the band became Maroon 5 in 2001, with founding drummer Ryan Dusick and bassist Mickey Madden rounding out the lineup that would release multiplatinum Songs About Jane

That 2002 album skyrocketed to success on the strength of singles “Harder to Breathe” and “This Love.” A pop-soul sound had supplanted the embryonic alternative rock and Britpop flavors that characterized Kara’s

Flowers. Levine’s falsetto-ready tenor range, strongly influenced by Stevie Wonder, fit comfortably within the new musical direction.

Physical injuries that affected his playing led to Dusick leaving the band in 2006. (Now an associate marriage and family counselor, Dusick released a memoir titled Harder to Breathe in November that details his post-stardom struggles.) He was replaced by current drummer Matt Flynn in what is now essentially Maroon 6, as former touring members Sam Farrar and PJ Morton are officially part of the lineup as bassist and

keyboardist, respectively. That lineup was in place for 2021 album Jordi, which reached No. 8 on the Billboard charts and was supported by a North American tour. Former bassist Madden performed on two album tracks.

Levine’s rising visibility as a celebrity has helped keep Maroon 5 alive. His eight-year stint as a coach on The Voice in the 2010s kept him in the spotlight and maintained Maroon 5’s viability as a touring act as tastes changed and compact discs gave way to streaming as the predominant format for recorded music. Levine sounds as

if he is influenced by Post Malone on Jordi, the title of which is a dedication to late Maroon 5 manager Jordan Feldstein, who died in 2017.

The tragedy would be followed by a huge 2018 for Maroon 5, with singles such as “What Lovers Do” and “Girls Like You” becoming hits. Both songs were part of the setlists as Maroon 5’s 2022 tour ended, and are likely to be part of M5LV—The Residency

The band began on-site rehearsals in mid-March but have revealed little else. Well, other than fans now have 16 reasons to make pilgrimages to Las Vegas in 2023.
