Southwest Stunner

Experience this natural wonder in many ways

Check off another box on your bucket list this week with a visit to Grand Canyon West, where you can find plenty of ways to experience the American Southwest and the majesty of the Grand Canyon.

You’ll find Grand Canyon West just a few hours south of Vegas, an easy morning’s drive. The attraction gives you a close-up view of the natural wonder and is especially striking when viewed from the vantage point of the Skywalk, a cantilevered glass horseshoe-shaped bridge that hangs out over the canyon. That’s an incredible view that just adds to the already amazing scenes that you’ll experience on the approach to the Skywalk. (You’ll need to wear special booties here, because since the bridge is made of glass, precautions have been taken to avoid potential scratches.)

Grand Canyon West includes several areas where you can learn about the Hualapai Tribe, including Guano Point, Hualapai Point and Eagle Point, where the Skywalk is located. At Eagle Point, visitors can explore a Native American village, and Guano Point offers 360-degree views and access to Highpoint Hike, where you can spot remnants of a historic tram used by miners. A shuttle runs between those points, so you can see it all. If you want to take in a desert sunset and sunrise, there are several lodging options, including cabins at Hualapai Point. For more adventures, take the opportunity to zipline 500 feet above a side canyon at Hualapai Point, or opt for a helicopter tour, which operates from the Eagle Point area. You can also choose to try whitewater rafting on the Colorado River or take it easy with a pontoon boat ride.

If you’re peckish during your time at Grand Canyon West, there are plenty of options for food (you can get meal tickets included with your entrance), and ordering fry bread as a side or as part of the item is recommended! Try the Hualapai taco, with a fry bread exterior, at Gwe Ma’jo restaurant at Hualapai Point. Yum, yum, yum! –Nina King

Take the Waters

This luxurious Strip spa has all the amenities you need

Thermal baths date back to prehistoric times, constructed near natural springs that eventually became destinations. Destinations eventually became resorts, places where visitors could “take the waters” with sojourns dedicated to rest and rehabilitation. By the time spa resorts began to appear in North America, the neoclassical era had set in and Rome was an inspiration for design and services, setting the stage for an evolution that would lead to destinations such as Qua Baths & Spa

If not visiting a spa while in Las Vegas is an oversight, not visiting Qua Baths & Spa while a guest at Caesars Palace might leave a stay incomplete. Entering Qua Baths & Spa means leaving the world behind and encountering a complex of Roman baths, steam rooms, an arctic ice room, massages, facials and fitness center. There is time to enjoy all aspects of Qua Baths & Spa, with the only decision being where to start.

The Roman baths make that decision easy. Three pools of varying temperatures are available for plunging, with the jet-powered body-temperature pool being quite addictive. Heated stone lounge chairs are another amenity that may make it

hard to leave the room, but there is more to experience. A cold blast of air is especially invigorating after a session in the sauna or newly renovated steam rooms, so don’t forget an excursion in the arctic ice room.

The body is now set for a massage. This season, Qua Baths & Spa is offering an Autumn Evening Massage that includes being rubbed down with a chai spice vanilla essential oil blend that provides nourishing hydration. It’s a temporary offering alongside year-round signature massages such as body-and-skincare specialty Hourglass, sage-andsweet-grass Mojave Rain, three-option Nobu Zen and hot-and-cold therapeutic Leg Recovery Ritual.

Couples can choose from an exfoliating Couples Bliss Retreat and self-descriptive Himalayan Salt Stone. Custom massages, hot stone, sports massages, prenatal and CBD wellness options are available as well, as are eight facials. Whether aficionado or neophyte, Qua Baths & Spa is an evolutionary spa experience. Take the waters at the beginning or end of a Caesars stay, or both. –Matt Kelemen Caesars Palace. 866.782.0655

Lace Up!

Make memories at this unique Strip roller rink experience

If we told you that there’s now a roller rink on the Strip, would you believe us? You better, because for a limited time the iconic Tao Beach has been transformed into Flipper’s Roller Boogie Palace, and the pool is the skate surface! A blend of family-friendly fun and Vegas-style party energy, this pop-up experience presents the perfect daytime activity, with super-cheap skate rentals, a custom menu of sips and snacks, and cabanas available. Everyone from beginner to expert can have a fantastic time here as the rink is

relatively small and unintimidating. However, it’s the shape of the pool it’s built on—not the typical oval—and presents opportunities for creative footwork.

Food and bev offerings include some thematic treats and some can’t-miss Tao classics. Try the crisp Crazy-Legged Mule, made with vodka, hibiscus, lime and ginger beer for something sweet and floral yet punchy. If the cold weather has you craving a steaming sip, opt for The Ugly Sweater, featuring Bushmills 10 Year whiskey, coffee, tiramisu and cream.

Nonalcoholic delights like apple cider with lemon and cinnamon syrup also promise great flavor and cozy feelings.

Don’t forget to order shareables like loaded nachos and spicy tuna tartare on crispy rice. For larger appetites, consider entrées like fish and chips, or hot dogs and caviar served with yuzu crème fraîche. Book a cabana for classic s’mores or cheesy s’mores with housemade crackers and seasonal jam . –Em Jurbala

A Showstopping, Lifelike Figure

This Strip attraction adds Latin sensation’s likeness to its who’s who of modern music

It’s been quite a year for Latin sensation Karol G. In addition to the massive success of her latest single, “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” a showstopping performance at the VMAs and multiple Latin Grammy nominations, she got two wax figures unveiled by Madame Tussauds in New York—one of which is now in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas figure is an homage to her collaboration with Shakira from their music video TQG, in which Karol G appeared with striking red hair, Blumarine dress and boots, jewelry from Jacob & Co. and the style that has become her trademark. Upon seeing her likeness, Karol G commented, “My first impression was I love my smile, and the color of my eyes. I hope when my fans meet the figures that it’s a manifestation for them that one day they will meet me.”

And Karol G is just the beginning of some of the music stars you can see in Las Vegas:

• J Balvin, the attraction’s newest figure, wears a floral three-piece suit (a perfect re-creation of his 2021 Moschino Met Gala ensemble) and sports a bleach-blond buzz cut.

• Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker’s figure has the distinction of being the most tattooed wax likeness in Madame Tussauds’ history— more than 100. In addition, the all-black wardrobe was supplied by Barker himself, from the leather jacket to the boots. It took nine weeks to stencil and color the figure’s head and seven weeks for the body. But the result? A true work of art, just like the man himself.

• Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny’s figure is posed in front of a purple semi decked out with flames (inspired not only for the cover for El Último Tour Del Mundo, but by his outfit, hair and jewelry from the 2021 American Music Awards). Bad Bunny has other figures on display in New York and Orlando, Fla.

• Hip-hop legend Missy Elliott’s figure replicates the outfit she wore to the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. A fan of her groundbreaking album Supa Dupa Fly helped Elliott hand-embellish the figure’s glossy tracksuit, and Elliott donated a pair of Versace kicks. Twenty artists worked six months to get every detail just right. –Ken Miller

No Misteaks Here

Make one of the best decisions of your trip when you choose to dine here

In 1995, five years after Rio Las Vegas opened its doors, the resort built a witchy steakhouse on its 50th floor. Nearly two decades later, VooDoo Steak still sits pretty on the top of the property, and while the voodoo theme is no longer a focal point, the steakhouse team is still creating magic in the kitchen, helmed by chef Matt Nguyen.

Start with a classic steakhouse appetizer like crab cakes with green goddess dressing, wedge salad or French onion soup. But don’t sleep on chef Nguyen’s

more creative openers like the braised short rib bruschetta.

Steaks come from family farms in Hastings, Neb., and are 21- to 28-day wet-aged with classic cuts like ribeye, filet, bone-in ribeye and prime flat iron. Splurge on a 12-ounce Mishima Reserve domestic wagyu beef or the shareable 32-ounce tomahawk. Those who don’t eat red meat can find plenty of entrées to please the palate, from seared scallops and lamb chops to salmon and chicken marsala.

Vegetarians, don’t fret. We would be remiss to not mention chef Nguyen’s plant-based cooking skills—he conjures up delicious creations. Mention your dietary restriction when making your reservation. While vegetarian dishes are not on the menu except for a few sides, this go-around, the chef blew away this writer with some of the best vegetarian recipes ever tasted. –Kiko Miyasato

Oh, Those Views!

Lounge offers spectacular vistas along with signature cocktails

Las Vegas is a place of sights and sounds, libations and luxury, lights and heights. A Strip sojourn is a sensual exploration enhanced by discoveries that make memories—such as a new view from above. Al le Lounge on 66 is one such vista-providing venue, offering a look south at Las Vegas Boulevard via the top of the Conrad, from sundown to the early morning hours.

Of course, there’s more to do than look at the view. The lounge, which takes its name from aesthetics loyalty program Alle, is styled with the simple elegance of an upscale social club. It’s a place to dress best in night-on-the-town wear; couture that respects environment only elevates the atmosphere.

Elevated style in an elevated lounge is best complemented with exceptional cocktails and an extensive wine list. The menu is epic, so starting off with a signature drink with distinctive spirits, such as Captain Morgan in a Bananas Foster Old-Fashioned, Banana Bread with Howler Head Banana Bourbon whiskey, or a Cookie Butter espresso martini with an Absolut Vanilla foundation, may be a good first chapter before proceeding through volumes of vino and champagne selections.

Each visit is an also an opportunity to flavor the evening by savoring small plates such as big eye tuna poke nachos, brown butter lobster rolls or pan roasted ribeye. The tastes of evenings at Alle Lounge on 66 may change, but the spectacular view stays the same. –Matt Kelemen

The Season of Smoke

It’s the perfect time of year to visit a cigar bar

Last week, cooler temperatures arrived in Las Vegas. While warmer temps might persist here and there, we still say it’s time to celebrate the new season and light up a cigar and pair it with a cocktail. Cigar season is here, folks, and we’re here to give you the lowdown on where to enjoy.

Eight Lounge at Resorts World Las Vegas is everything sexy and slick you’d want in a cigar lounge, from the décor to the bar and the outdoor lounge. Start the season off right with a killer cigar and cocktail pairing, the H99 Toro

cigar from Liga Privada paired with the Old Pal cocktail, a blend of Knob Creek rye, Dolin dry vermouth and Campari. “It’s a great, medium-bodied cigar that often gets overlooked because it’s the newest blend of the Liga Privada line,” says Ian Floranza, general manager of Eight Lounge. “Once guests give it a try, they love it. … (They) pair very well with each other, giving each enough contrast to enjoy both the drink and cigar.”

Eight’s cigar selection is impressive, with brands including rare and standout choices like My Father & Tatuaje La Union, 50th Anniversary Padrón, the limited-production Montecristo Espada Signature, the $6,000 Gurkha Maharaja, Chinese zodiac cigars from various brands and a cigar that Floranza is especially excited about, the Year of the Snake Plasencia cigar. Eight’s cigar aficionados are all well-versed in every cigar for sale and love to take a deep dive into guests’ preferences to put together a specially curated cigar and spirit pairing.

If you find yourself at Caesars Palace or Paris Las Vegas, stop into Monte-

cristo Cigar Bar. Each offers its own vibe, and here we highlight the Paris venue. The Parisian setting gives off an air of an elegant European smoking lounge. Try the Sparrow’s Edge cocktail with Diplomático rum, Amaro Averna liqueur, Domaine de Canton, orange bitters, lemon and a smoked top paired with the Espada by Montecristo cigar. The cocktail blends sweet, sour and bitter with oak and vanilla notes while the cigar has notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee and spices. “A cigar aficionado manager is available to provide insight and help guests select the best cigar for their palate,” says Roy Angeles, Montecristo Cigar Bar manager. “… All team members have vast knowledge and experience and are happy to assist guests with cigar and drink pairings.” Guests also have the chance to snag the La Flor Dominicana Salomon Unico cigar, specifically made for the property. Very similar to the popular Andalusian Bull cigar from the brand, this medium-bodied version has a slight spice throughout and is stamped with the Eiffel Tower. –Kiko Miyasato

Between all three locations, find cigar selections like Montecristo White Label, Davidoff Aniversario No. 3, Rocky Patel Decade, Arturo Fuente Chateau, Camacho Connecticut and Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real. Pair the cigars with some standout specialty cocktails like the Daybreaker with Angel’s Envy bourbon, demerara, chocolate and orange bitters, the spiced espresso martini with Dos Hombres mezcal, Licor 43, Kahlúa, espresso and chocolate bitters, or the Apple Blossom with Macallan 12 Year scotch, apple simple syrup and baked apple bitters.

Striking the perfect work-life balance

Vildan Buric works hard so he can play hard. As the director of beverage for Resorts World Las Vegas, he puts nose to the grindstone, and then once a year takes two weeks to travel to exotic locations around the world. (His last vacation was a safari in Africa!)

“I lead the team of bartenders, cocktail servers, barbacks, bar porters and a team of supervisors and managers to drive our goals forward, create innovation and improve the guest experience,” he says, sitting in the Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge,

one of the lounges he oversees, and one of his favorites. “Golden Monkey is a oneof-a-kind escape in the heart of Resorts World, providing guests with a vibrant island-inspired oasis,” Buric says.

Making sure that guests have a variety of vibes and spirits to choose from when it comes to bars and lounges is important to Buric, but the job goes way beyond that. “Developing new leaders and helping them grow into the next level—I’m in a position to give people opportunities, and that’s one of the best things about

Buric will continue to play hard, too. Other travels have included snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, traveling through Dubai and Thailand, and the next stop? Brunch at Alexxa’s and mid-morning delights

popular spots for a daily brunch on the Strip, Alexxa’s, debuted a seasonal brunch, and lucky for you, it’s available

every day. The restaurant sits Stripside, so it couldn’t be easier to get to if you are walking down Las Vegas Boulevard. It also has a great patio, which overlooks Fountains of Bellagio.

Start with a shared, large-format cocktail—big, fruity, frothy vessels that will impress you and leave the whole table feeling good. Try the Strawberry Fields, a take on strawberry lemonade with Old Forester whiskey, strawberry purée, agave and lemon juice, or the Magick Dragon, with Midori, Apple Pucker liqueur,

o ers great views

to start with. (I also recommend the co ee, as it goes so well with brunch.)

Sharing isn’t just limited to those big drinks, though. You’ll want to order a few starters to get a sampling of everything. The hummus is delicious, and comes with fragrant, pu y balloon bread, with za’taar adding a surprising flavor to each bite. Fruit plates are laden with berries, pineapple, blood oranges and apple, with a delicious, sweet sauce. Baked spinach dip and snow crab cakes go pretty fast as well.

Starry and Gold Luster Dust (fancy!). Bottomless mimosas and the Colossal Bloody Mary are other great sips and fontina, but it’s the white

One of the most refreshing salads is Alexxa’s chopped Italian version, with artichokes, cherry tomatoes, pepperoncini, garbanzos, salumi and fontina, but it’s the white oregano vinaigrette that puts it over the top for me. Or opt for the simple but splendid burrata caprese with cherry tomatoes, basil pesto and grilled bread.

For your entrées, ordering separately may be in order. Breakfast faves include the Cinnaroll wa e, a decadent bite with cream cheese icing. It’s so very good. A stack of flu y signature pancakes is covered in blueberries

and Chantilly cream while brioche French toast, with berries and nuts, could almost be

dessert. Crispy chicken sandwich on a brioche bun, prime rib French dip and the meat lover’s omelete with bacon, sausage and Italian ham are worthy choices (there’s also a terrific veggie option!), but a variety of pizzas might be more your style. Try the tartufo white pie, with tru ed ricotta, pecorino, wild mushroom and roasted garlic combining for a delectable taste. The black tiger shrimp and grits are not to be missed—the creamy,

fragrant Cajun spice; it’s the grownup version of the packets you might store in your pantry. And chicken and

wa es makes a crunchy, satisfying bite with bourbon-maple syrup.

Hit up the dessert menu for shareables for all: Italian cream pu s with lemon curd and blueberry compote; tiramisu with sweetened espresso curd and mascarpone mousse; or a 25-layer chocolate cake that’s chocolate everything—chocolate sponge cake, chocolate ganaché, chocolate-hazelnut cream and chocolate sauce. It’s a good thing it’s served with vanilla ice cream, or maximum chocolate level might be achieved.

’Twas the Knight captures the Christmas spirit with medieval merriment

he search for the spirit of Christmas in Las Vegas is not just a stock holiday film scenario for which Nicolas Cage would be an excellent starring lead as a stingy casino boss visited by three ghosts who resemble Sammy, Dean and Frank. True believers seek holiday magic in traditional halls decked with festive pageantry, where roast Cornish game hen is served before dancing maidens and clashing warriors. Hark, Excalibur sings, as ’Twas the Knight returns to Tournament of Kings!

That last sentence may have been as cheesy as cheddar fondue, but guardians of the realm can be assured that the small people they accompany will be enchanted with every aspect of ’Twas the Knight. The feast is just the beginning, as spectators are escorted to the areas reserved for the kingdoms they will support with pounding fists, stomping feet and cries of “huzzah!”

A fine supper of roasted sweet potatoes, corn on the cob and pumpkin pastry accompanies the hen, all washed down with endless refills of soft drinks (although Merlin does have a magical margarita recipe for adults desiring a little extra holiday cheer). Options for every dietary need—from

vegan to kosher to allergy-free—are anticipated. In true medieval holiday tradition, flatware is neither provided nor necessary.

What is necessary is the preservation of Christmas spirit, which the wizard Merlin explains as he makes his entrance into the Tournament of Kings arena along with a juggling jester. Kings from places as far-flung as Spain, Ireland, Austria, Norway, Hungary, Romania and France arrive one-by-one on horseback to save the holiday from danger, possibly in the form of the evil dragon king.

fore a jousting tournament determines the hardiest champion of them all. There is “snow”. There is merriment. There is revelry. There is expert equestrianism featuring magnificent horses. Lords and ladies gather around a round table, raise their voices in song, hoist chalices and toast your health. It’s the closest a fan of fire-breathing dragons, mystical mages and mythical quests can come to being immersed in a real-life game of thrones without risking more than a tired tongue after numerous rounds of “Huzzah!”

First, there must be mortal combat. King Arthur and company engage in tests of skill in weaponry ranging from swinging maces and shield-shattering axes to spark-spraying swords, as well as hand-to-hand brawls. One king will emerge victorious and capable of taking on malevolent Mordred, but not be-

If the energy of smaller patrons isn’t worn off by the end of a show, there is a glorious arcade area on the way out. The excitement of Excalibur’s twice-nightly offering should be enough to occupy the attention of visitors ranging from toddler to overgrown teenager. Infants will not likely sleep through the booming sounds of battle, but it is suitable for all ages.

The question that remains is, “Would Nicolas Cage play Arthur, Merlin or Mordred in the film version of ’Twas the Night ?” For my money, he’d make a great Merlin.

stores that deserve a little extra attention—whether you just browse or decide to buy, they’re worth the visit just for the experience.

Make your first stop at Animazing Gallery, where pop art and classic art collide in a cool retail space that has such interesting pieces it’s like walking through a museum filled with iconic cultural references. Animazing Gallery first found fame in Soho, New York, more than four decades ago. Over that time, owner Nick Leone has amassed a massive collection of art, including the paintings of John Douglas (pictured). Douglas, the drummer for Aerosmith, travels with a blank canvas and acrylic paint. When touring, he’ll use his hotel room as his studio, mixing the paints inside a drum head. He’ll then tack the canvas up, paint and, when finished, lets them drip dry in the bathroom shower.

Jump from one gallery to the next. One can spend serious hours browsing through Regis Galerie. This store is more gallery and showroom than retail, but everything is for sale. “These are not mass-produced pieces, everything is high quality,” says director Lorne “LG” Gostfrand. “What we really base our gallery on is high-quality pieces that you can only find here in Vegas. We display 1,000 different artists from around the world and we’ve been in this spot at Grand Canal Shoppes for 25 years. We’re definitely a destination spot.”

It’s such a destination that celebrities galore have paid a visit—just check out the wall with tons of pictures of famous faces that have made an appearance. Besides museum-quality pieces for the home with everything from bronze statues, furniture and pop art paintings to Disney-in-

From something special to wear to something special to drink, head to the unique Spirits & Spice. Cocktails and liqueurs and spices and oils, oh my! The store lets guests mix, match, try and buy small-batch alcohol like whiskey, tequila, rum, vodka and liqueurs. You can create your own recipes or just buy the spirits straight. When it comes to cooking, browse a selection of oils, balsamics and seasonings, and select, bottle and take home your favorites. “The best part about the store is we let you try before you buy,” says River Pizzimenti, sales

associate. The store stocks cocktail-making supplies and tools so you can bartend to your heart’s content. And don’t miss the selection of bottled wine—around 40-50 brands from all around the world.

Currently, one of the best-selling whiskies at Spirits & Spice is the Two Bitch Bour-

bon out of Eureka, Nev.; the company is named after the owner’s two rescue dogs, Sage and Scarlet. Price points for many of the small-batch spirits start around a reasonable $34 and can go all the way up to $1,000.

It’s another shop where one could spend hours browsing the merchandise, especially lovers of the written word.

“Three things that determine the value of the rare book: the condition and completeness

(is it as close to original as possible?); the scarcity (How many still exist?); and lastly, the title has to be interesting to collectors,” says salesman Pamela Raia. “Bauman Rare Books is very much a bespoke

service. We always say, ‘You’re not only buying a book, you’re buying someone to assist you with your collection over the long term.’ We help with book care, how to build your library, the environment to keep books in, the storage.”

One of the most treasured books is Thomas McKenney’s and James Hall’s North American Indians, early edition, second octavo edition from 1854 ($25,000). The illustrations are of indigenous leaders who traveled to government offices to have their portraits painted. (This was prior to photography.) The original portraits burned in a fire, but luckily McKenney and Hall preserved the images by making illustrations of each of the paintings. “They made

the illustrations based off the original paintings and without them doing this, we would not have these images of very important Native American chiefs,” Raia says.

Other special book selections include Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice, the first American edition of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights and the first edition of Sigmund Freud’s Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis inscribed by him to a friend. Familiar names in literature also include books by Charles Dickens (a first edition of Oliver Twist), Walt Whitman and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The most expensive book on display at Bauman Rare Books is the $60,000 first English translation of Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville, long considered one of the most important texts in political literature.

Check out these hot spots to eat, drink and be merry

With all the iconic landmarks on the Las Vegas Strip, the Tower at The STRAT stands as one of the most recognizable. It’s the tallest freestanding observation tower in the country, coming in at more than 1,000 feet. The STRAT is also home to a plethora of things to do on-property—one doesn’t have to leave to find fabulous food, top gaming, tons of heart-pounding attractions and a

great mix of entertainment. Here, we’ve picked three of our top spots.

We love the design of this restaurant because it transports patrons right to the funky back alleys of China where the bustling streets are home to some of the best hole-in-the-wall eateries. The immer-

sive CHI Asian Kitchen restaurant sets the scene for authentic and reimagined Chinese eats along with other Asian favorites. Signature dishes include the braised mushroom yee fu noodles, bulgogi fried rice, pork and shrimp spicy Szechuan dumplings, char siu BBQ pork and oxtail noodle soup. Don’t miss the mango mochi, hand-rolled oolong tea and the sake and soju selections.

Visit the top of that freestanding observation tower and get your drink on at the highest bar in the city, 108 Drinks. You’d be hard-pressed to find another bar and lounge with the views you’ll soak in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. While one does have to purchase a Tower admission ticket to reach the bar on the 108th floor, you’ll find many specials throughout the week. Don’t miss Sky High Happy Hour from 3-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, where you can enjoy two-for-one Tower admission and two-for-one wine, beer and cocktails. And don’t miss the Bottomless Mimosas With a View Package every Saturday and Sunday. You’ll be able to enjoy as many of those bubbly, orangey cocktails while hanging inside or outside on the observation deck from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for only $28.99 per person. And, we can’t stress enough that you don’t miss purchasing a bag of gourmet dessert popcorn—you’ll want to scale the tower for more!

Two UNLV students loved stand-up comedy so much they decided to open their own club at The STRAT, the L.A. Comedy Club. The intimate theater that seats 270 guests offers comedy nightly at 6, 8 and 10 p.m. And what’s comedy without some liquor? L.A. Comedy Club offers a full bar and a lounge to hang at before each show starts. You can even take selfies in front of a fake stage and microphone that’ll fool your friends back home into thinking you tried your hand at some stand-up comedy while in Las Vegas! And check this out: For an additional $30 you can purchase the all-you-can-drink package. All this week, catch comedians Carlos Rodriguez and Ricky Reyes, plus shows by Vegas favorites Butch Bradley and Bret Ernst.

Put yourself in the mood for the holidays while you’re in Vegas

It seems like the whole of December is a lead-in to the day the head elf makes his magical flight, and we have to admit, we’re here for it. And if you’re here for it, too, Las Vegas has lots of goodies just ready to be unwrapped, and lots of merriment to be made. Check out this smattering of special fun this week, perfect to take you into the holiday proper. Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens has done it again with the holiday-themed ’Twas Check out a dazzling display of lights and decorations, all evoking the larger-than-life holiday themes of A Visit From St. Nicholas, with tall Christmas trees, elves, sleighs, reindeer, a toy train, stockings hung over the fireplace and so much more. And it’s primarily done with floral and natural elements—fir

trees, poinsettias and preserved roses are just part of the picture.

At Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef Aquarium, catch Santa in the Shipwreck, where good little boys and girls aged 12 and younger can get their photos taken with the jolly old elf (free with paid admission) on Dec. 15 and 21-24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. At 4 p.m., Santa jumps into his scuba suit and swims through the exhibit. Plus, keep an eye out for Santa Jaws, who periodically appears for photos and fun.

If you are a fan of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas head to AREA15, where you can enjoy the movie in a whole new way. The showing inside The Portal creates a special twist with immersive visuals, plus serves guest specialty themed cocktails.

Ethel M Chocolates Factory & Cactus Garden is already wellknown among locals for its amazing chocolate assortments, but it also hosts a seasonal spectacular that showcases over a million lights strung among the cactuses. With 3 acres of desert plants lit up, the stroll down to visit Santa couldn’t be more pleasant. Plus, hot chocolate and snacks are available. You can also pick up holiday candies in the gift shop, perfect for sending o to Grandma.

But that’s not the only camera fun here—check out the retro-themed Road Trip: North Pole, a “pit stop” with plenty of spots for a pic. Plus, you can knock out your shopping at the same time—we doubt you couldn’t find a great gift.

Hungry? Definitely check out the “It’s a White Christmas” holiday pop-up menu at Bar Zazu at Resorts World Las Vegas, where until Dec. 31 you can enjoy Tuscan

Westgate Las Vegas Christmas Suite

beef tartare with gnocchi fritto, winter squash formato, Parmigiano Reggiano risotto, porcini-rubbed scallop and fiore di latte gelato with glazed figs.

Imbibing? Shopping? Both? Definitely stop by The Mob Museum, where moonshine is produced at an in-house distillery. You’ll want to indulge in a holiday cocktail or two at the speakeasy-style The Underground before making your purchase.

But that’s not the only place to enjoy a little pick-me-up. March right into Sippin’ Santaat The Sand Dollar Downtown at Plaza, where you’ll find a tiki-style Christmas

paradise. There are plenty of festive cocktails like the Kris Kringle Colada, live music and groovy decorations in this holiday hot spot.

At Mandalay Bay, the Foundation Room Jingle Bar o ers amazing views along with a special menu of seasonal cocktails. Sip the Ta-Ta, Turboman!, an adult a ogato; the Sandy Claws’ Surprise, a mint espresso martini; and other treats while enjoying the holiday décor.

As long as you’re at Mandalay Bay, you might want to head into Flanker Kitchen + Sports Bar, where A Christmas Parlor serves holiday cocktails inspired by the beloved Christmas movie, A Christmas Story. Enjoy tasty eats and the nostalgic décor as you are swept back to another time. Plus, there’s always the chance you’ll win a major prize, right?

Westgate Las Vegas has gone all out with its Christmas Suite, an elegant, festive retreat decked

out in holiday cheer. With twinkling lights and a whole space just bursting with holiday decor, including life-sized Nutcrackers, plenty of Christmas trees and swag galore, it will get you in the seasonal mood, even if it’s summer. And by the way, the suite is available all year long, so you may just want to make plans to celebrate Christmas in July now.

In The Shops at Crystals, you’ll find gorgeous décor, including a 55foot holiday tree, which is bejeweled in more than 5,000 Swarovski ornaments. Plus, throughout the high-end retail center, displays of holiday-inspired ball gowns give you something to aspire to.

Laugh your way through the holidays with A Very Terry Christmas at The STRAT. Ventriloquist and singer Terry Fator presents his annual festivities, complete with visits from his most famous characters, dropping in to share Christmas cheer and possibly a few carols.
