All the Right Moves

Master showman returns to his smash residency

Fans of Donny and Marie who have heard Donny Osmond speak lately would tell you his voice hasn’t aged since the variety show’s ratings reign in the late ’70s. Osmond, who celebrated three years and 300 performances of his Las Vegas Strip residency last summer, maintains his singing ability through a combination of good genes, healthy living and vocal exercises. And from boyhood stardom to teen idolatry through television successes and stage comebacks, his faithful fans have been there at every turn.

He raps. He reminisces. He’s complemented by a dynamic live band led by drummer Earl Campbell and dancing dynamos captained by superstar-in-waiting Miki Catherine. He also meets fans for preshow Q&As, where attendees are often repeat VIPs. Osmond covers his entire career from “Puppy Love” to “Soldier of Love.” That includes material from early ’70s Osmonds albums such as Phase III and Crazy Horses

“Phase III, actually I like that album,” said Osmond in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine hours before an early August show at Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“What’s interesting is the Osmonds’ trajectory as a band was more rock ’n’ roll. I don’t know if I would go so far as heavy metal, although Metallica … James Hetfield said they used to do “Crazy Horses” in their setlist. Metallica said this. Ozzy Osbourne told me it’s one of his favorite rock ’n’ roll songs of all time.”

Hetfield would have been 8 when Phase III cuts such as “Down By the Lazy River” were in heavy rotation on AM radio stations. That album’s proto-metal song “My Drum” may have been the heaviest track he was allowed to play in his home during his strict religious upbringing due to the Osmonds’ wholesome image.

“It’s really interesting when you think about the different styles of music that I’ve done,” said Osmond, whose “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from the Mulan soundtrack has been streamed on Spotify more than 333 million times. “Yeah, I was known primarily as a teenybopper … But it’s kind of a misconception as to who I was through the years that’s slowly eroding away.” –Matt Kelemen

Vacation Rejuvenation

Don’t forget to pamper yourself while you’re in town

Thermal baths date back to prehistoric times, constructed near natural springs that eventually became destinations. Destinations eventually became resorts, places where visitors could “take the waters” with sojourns dedicated to rest and rehabilitation. By the time spa resorts began to appear in North America, the neoclassical era had set in and Rome was an inspiration for design and services, setting the stage for an evolution that would lead to destinations such as Qua Baths & Spa

If not visiting a spa while in Las Vegas is an oversight, not visiting Qua Baths & Spa while a guest at Caesars Palace might leave a stay incomplete. Entering Qua Baths & Spa means leaving the world behind and encountering a complex of Roman baths, steam rooms, an arctic ice room, massages, facials and fitness center.

There is time to enjoy all aspects of Qua Baths & Spa, with the only decision being where to start.

The Roman baths make that decision easy. Three pools of varying temperatures are available for plunging, with the jet-powered body-temperature pool being quite addictive. Heated stone lounge chairs are another amenity that may make it

hard to leave the room, but there is more to experience. A cold blast of air is especially invigorating after a session in the sauna or newly renovated steam rooms, so don’t forget an excursion in the arctic ice room.

The body is now set for a massage. Qua Baths & Spa offers an incredibly luxe Salt and Stone massage that combines the healing properties of Himalayan salt and the muscle relief created by hot stones. The mineral rich stones exfoliate the skin and detoxify the body. It’s a unique offering alongside signature massages such as body-and-skincare specialty Hourglass, sage-and-sweet-grass Mojave Rain, three-option Nobu Zen and hot-and-cold therapeutic Leg Recovery Ritual.

Couples can choose from an exfoliating Couples Bliss Retreat and self-descriptive Himalayan Salt Stone. Custom massages, hot stone, sports massages, prenatal and CBD wellness options are available as well, as are eight facials. Whether aficionado or neophyte, Qua Baths & Spa is an evolutionary spa experience. Take the waters at the beginning or end of a Caesars stay, or both. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff Caesars Palace. 866.782.0655

All the Marbles

Boxing veterans duke it out for a world championship

The stakes could not be higher when Sebastian Fundora, left, fights Chordale Booker: The 12-round PBC Championship Boxing event is for the super welterweight championship of the world. Fundora, nicknamed “The Towering Inferno” (6 feet, 5 ½ inches tall) and currently ranked No. 4 at super welterweight by The Ring, is currently the unified WBC and WBO super welterweight world champion. Challenger Booker is currently ranked No. 14 by the WBC and No. 5 by the WBO in the 154-pound division.

Both fighters have great records, Fundora with 21 wins, one loss and one draw (13 knockouts) and Booker with 23 wins and one loss (11 knockouts). While both fighters are almost identical in weight (153.5 pounds and 154 pounds, respectively), Fundora does have the advantage in height (Booker is 5 foot 9 inches tall), reach (80 inches for Fundora, 70 for Booker) and age (27 for Fundora, 33 for Booker).

Fundora’s last fight was an epic bout against Tim Tszyu, which ended in a

split decision in Fundora’s favor. Booker, meanwhile, has been building an impressive resume since his first-round loss to Austin Williams in 2022, going 6-0.

The undercard features Elijah Garcia (16-1-0) vs. Terrell Gausha (24-4-1) and Jesus Ramos (22-1-0) vs. Kevin Salgado (17-2-1). This card promises plenty of action and drama. –Ken Miller

You Will Love It

Chart-topping band returns to high-powered Strip production to perform hit after hit

One of the constant highlights of Maroon 5’s Las Vegas residency has been when singer Adam Levine and guitarist James Valentine venture into the audience to serenade a section of the superfans, many of whom sing along as Levine croons “She Will Be Loved” and Valentine fingerpicks the song’s chord progression. The Maroon 5 superfan knows this part of the show well. If they’re seated close, they’ll be capturing the moment for content creation without interfering with anyone else’s sightline.

The superfan prepares carefully for this moment. They’ve saved maximum memory on their phone for photos and video. They documented the road to Dolby Live on social media. They watched the end of Venom 3: The Last Dance again and felt chills as “Memories” accompanied a montage of Eddie Brock reminiscing about his titular extraterrestrial buddy. They streamed the song and helped it reach the summit of the Top Movie Songs chart in October.

“Memories” peaked at No. 2 in January 2020 and will likely be peaking all through March at Maroon 5: The Las Vegas Residency, where the band plays its first live shows after a seven-concert, late-winter Asian tour. One show was at Japan’s Tokyo Dome, where Levine’s 8-year-old daughter, Dusty Rose, who was serenaded during the band’s rendition of “Girls Like You.”

Maroon 5 played that song during the encore during the last set of shows in what has become one of the longest-running band residencies on the Strip by a band whose relationship to Las Vegas nearly reaches back to its beginnings. The current setlist includes material from their Songs About Jane Tour that were performed at Vegas concerts by the band, which included founding member and current rhythm guitarist/keyboardist Jesse Carmichael.

Expect Maroon 5 to play each concert as if it’s the first of the residency or the last. Levine might sing about a payphone, but the band never phones it in. Maroon 5 does not disappoint the superfans. –Matt Kelemen

Comedy Times Two

Industry titans join forces in a series of performances

It’s no mean feat that, despite a threehour running length and featuring more than a dozen comedians and athletes taking the podium, Nikki Glaser’s roast of Tom Brady was not only the highlight of the broadcast, it’s achieved legendary status among the comedy community. And while the prospect of Glaser coming to Las Vegas this week is cool enough, the addition of David Spade to the mix makes it a can’t-miss experience.

Glaser has kept incredibly busy since that May 2024 roast, including hosting the Golden Globes in January. Yet despite all her achievements, award nominations and critical accolades, she still calls Spade the best stand-up comedian she’s ever seen. And as much as you might think you know Spade from his deep volume of television and movie work, trust us: Seeing him in person is an entirely different animal. Spade is a master

of tone, and is capable of turning any circumstance into a comedy moment.

Whether it’s roasting, hosting or stand-up, Glaser has proven she’s comedy gold; Spade has more than proven that he’s a master of every medium. The two together? Unforgettable. –Ken Miller

Can You Keep It Quiet?

Speakeasy is inspired by classic Bronx-based movie

If the name sounds familiar then you might be a fan of the classic 1993 movie A Bronx Tale. In the movie, Chez Bippy was the bar that the gang frequented; this iteration is MGM Grand’s drinking and lounging hot spot.

But just as the bar in the movie was easily spotted on the corner of the Bronx neighborhood, this bar is a little harder to find, hence its speakeasy status. Look for the property’s Italian American restaurant, Luchini. The restaurant from Las Vegas nightlife and dining juggernaut The Tao Group is a “restaurant reminiscent of classic red sauce joints found throughout New York City,” as described on its website. Attached to the restaurant is the slice shop, a pizza-by-the-slice, quick-service counter where you can grab a slice to go or sit down at one of the few tables in the back. While you’re sitting in the back, see if you notice three candy vending machines. Behind one of the machines is the secret Chez Bippy. One of the machines pushes back to reveal red curtains—and through the curtains is the in-the-know, beautiful, bougie speakeasy. This intimate

space houses just a few tables and sofa seating, and a few seats at the bar. The low lighting, marble-topped tables, luxurious fabrics and accessories add to Chez Bippy’s glamour. This is a perfect spot to dress up and sip in style.

The focus at this speakeasy is the specialty cocktails—elevated, impressive presentations that are twists on classic libations that implement Italian-inspired flavors. Begin with the Fellini, inspired by director Federico

Fellini
Cocktail photos by Christopher DeVargas

Fellini. “The wafting smoke is evocative of Fellini’s ethereal, mystical films he’s known for making,” said Jan Padiernos, director of beverage for Tao Group and the creator of Chez Bippy’s cocktail menu. “This cocktail is a sweet and savory take on the classic Boulevardier cocktail.” It’s a mix of Bulleit bourbon, Campari, Barolo Chinato Cocchi and vanilla-anise tincture that is topped with a pizzelle, a classic, delightful Italian cookie. As it is presented tableside, the cocktail’s cover is lifted to reveal a waft of hickory smoke with a hint of cinnamon.

Fans of martinis should order the Martini Classico. The classic cocktail highlights the flavors of Italy with a mix

of Absolut Elyx vodka that has been infused with pepperoncinis and then mixed with Dolin dry vermouth and a Castelvetrano olive and caper brine. The cocktail is then served with pepperoncinis, olives and fresh mozzarella

on the side. A carafe holds the cocktail and rests on ice to keep it chilled until it is finished.

The Bella Notte is the perfect closure to the evening at Chez Bippy. “It’s an affogato meets an espresso martini,” Padiernos said. “It’s a satisfying conclusion to a beautiful evening, hence the name Bella Notte.” The sweet, delicious mix of Belvedere vodka, Licor 43, Borghetti coffee liqueur, Frangelico and freshly brewed espresso is poured over a scoop of vanilla gelato.

“When you come into Chez Bippy you’re coming into a transformative experience,” Padiernos said. “We have very skilled bartenders equipped to make anything, even off menu. Of course, we’d like guests to enjoy the cocktail menu that we’ve curated for them, but our team is very talented, and they like to express their creativity with cocktails.” –Kiko Miyasato

General manager finds her happy place

Morgan Santillanes has been in the grind in the food and beverage industry since she was 16 years old, working every position from answering phones, busing tables and serving to bartending and managing. Today, she’s found job nirvana as the general manager of the newly opened Gjelina at The Venetian.

“I’ve been in food and beverage for so long, it’s really cool to be a part of a super-healthy relationship and provide support and love to this big group of people,” Santillanes says.

She interviewed for the position at the restaurant’s Venice, Calif., location a couple of years ago. “I walked back to my room and was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, what is this amazing thing, and can I be a part of it?!” she says. Fun fact: Gjelina has its own farm in Venice, Calif., and six days a week a van drives back and forth to pick up fresh produce for the Vegas location. “I’ve worked for many restaurants that say they’re different, but Gjelina really is different,” Santillanes says. “The way our food program is, the sustainability, the

The Steak House at Circus Circus has been the model of consistency for decades

For more than 40 years, The Steak House at Circus Circus has been the go-to for generations of tourists and locals alike. And that’s because its customers always know what they’re getting: seriously great food, a menu that keeps things more or less the same year in and year out, service that makes you feel special, and an old-school ambience you really can’t find anywhere else on the Strip. This is the sort of restaurant where it’s not uncommon on any given night to see at least an anniversary or birthday celebrated. It’s just that special.

As you’re escorted to your table or leather booth, you’ll immediately be struck by two things: a dry-aging locker with floor-to-ceiling windows that allows you to check out all the cuts you’re about to choose from, and a food preparation area smack-

dab in the middle of the restaurant. Before your meal arrives, be sure to order a cocktail to prepare you for the deliciousness to come. All the classics are here to enjoy, from Old-Fashioneds and Manhattans to dirty martinis, but vodka lovers will want to try the Lemon Drop, made with Absolut Citron, triple sec and lemon juice.

Start your meal with any of the splendid appetizers, from the French onion soup and deeply flavorful grilled garlic shrimp and sautéed mushrooms to oysters on the half shell or the massive Seafood Sensation, a tower of oysters, crab and shrimp that’s practically a meal by itself! Salads here are all fresh and satisfying. The

Porterhouse steak

blue cheese wedge is always great, but if you want to bump things up a notch, order the Waldorf wedge, which is served with a balsamic blue cheese vinaigrette. For something really light yet deeply satisfying, opt for the tomato, mozzarella and basil

salad. If you’re a spinach fan, the fresh spinach salad is delightful, smothered in the restaurant’s hot bacon dressing (so yummy!).

Whatever you order from the steak menu, know this: All the beef on it is Midwestern in origin and aged for

21 days at 37 degrees Fahrenheit to achieve maximum flavor quality and texture. From the New York strip and porterhouse to the filet mignon and ribeye on the bone, every bite here will put you in the best of moods.

And if red meat isn’t quite what you’re craving, quality alternatives include lamb chops, salmon filet, twin broiled lobster tails, Alaskan king crab legs, sweet chili-glazed salmon, chicken breast and grilled garlic shrimp. No matter what you choose, make sure to accompany them with the wonderful sides like asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms or a humongous baked potato with all the fixings.

Dessert options are all top-notch versions of the classics. We’re particularly partial to the tiramisu, here served on a bed of chocolate drizzle, and the crème brûlée, topped with fresh berries and cream. But you also cannot go wrong with favorites like cheesecake and chocolate cake.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Rí Rá Irish Pub

Rí Rá Irish Pub at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place knows all about the “craic,” Irish for good times. For more than a dozen years, the authentic pub has welcomed guests through its doors to toast to Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick and the holiday that celebrates Irish culture and heritage. Come March 17, it’s the hot spot to get your eating, drinking and dancing on. (There is no cover charge.)

Rí Rá transports guests to Ireland by way of its immersive décor, traditional food and authentic ambience (even some of the staff is direct from the Emerald Isle!). “It’s big party vibes,” said Scott Sherman, Rí Rá Irish Pub’s managing partner. “We wanted to bring

that Temple Bar (Ireland’s busiest bar) vibe and feeling, with a pint in hand and you’re singing the songs. If you want to dance, eat, whatever you want to do for St. Patrick’s Day—we’re the spot for you.”

Live bands take the stage all week leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. On March 11-15 from 8 p.m.-midnight, enjoy Crooked Jacks. Flown in from Ireland, the band is

known for playing the Temple Bar circuit. On March 16, both Crooked Jacks and Achill Crossing, an Irish musical duo, perform from 5 p.m.-midnight. And on the holiday, March 17, Dave Rooney and Friends (the house band for Temple Bar) join the other two bands and close out the festivities in raucous style.

Nom, nom, nom. While you party, make sure to stay sa-

tiated with some downright authentic and delicious dishes from Rí Rá’s vast menu. Recommended dishes include the fish and chips, made U.K.-style with a thin, lager-based batter covering cuts of Icelandic haddock. The Reuben sandwich is 6 ounces of thinly shaved meat that is brined in-house for 10 days, and the Scotch eggs are made of bangers wrapped around a hardboiled egg and deep fried in panko. (The egg yolk is removed and made into a mousse and then piped back into the center.) The most traditional dish is the Irish chicken curry, made with a McDonnells spice imported from Ireland. “If anyone English or Irish tastes it, it immediately tastes like home,” Sherman said.

Order up the traditional 20-ounce Imperial pint of Guinness—every bartend-

702.632.7771

er knows how to pour the traditional way. If spirits sound more tempting, Rí Rá stocks about 400 bottles of Irish, American and Scotch whiskies, with the biggest Irish whiskey collection in the country (about 140 labels). All gin is direct from Ireland, there is no vodka on the menu(!), and for a special treat, order the black velvet, made with Guinness and champagne, or the black velveteen, made with Guinness and cider.

Take time to take in the authentic atmosphere that Rí Rá provides. Décor includes actual pieces brought over from Ireland, including the Shop Bar located near the entrance. The bar was dismantled and re-created inside Rí Rá with all the original pieces and woodwork from Foley’s Bar in Timoleague, West Cork. Built in the 1890s, it served as the town’s pub, local store and post office. Near the Victorian Bar, you’ll see the flooring that comes direct from the Harland & Wolff shipyard (where the Titanic was built); the oak flooring near the Whiskey Bar comes from an old Irish whiskey distillery. Inside the Theatre Room, the bar is filled with displays of salvaged artifacts from the original Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

Bert Kreischer has a ton of new material to present alongside his greatest bits

Bert Kreischer is arguably fearless when it comes to comedy. He’s more storyteller than stand-up artist, as famous for relating any subject up for discussion during podcast experiences to himself as he is for going shirtless during shows and public appearances. As one may imagine, Kreischer has had more than one Bert shirt purloined before the end of one of his sets.

“You’d be shocked with what people take if they can get their hands on it,” he says via email interview from an undivulged location in Spain. “It’s hilarious, and I don’t think it’s meant maliciously. We’ve had people sneak backstage and almost reveal it to me like they’re proud to tell me they snuck backstage, like I’m gonna be excited for them that they got one over?”

Kreischer is bringing his brand of topless entertainment to Resorts World Theatre for the second time, carving out a home away from home at the Vegas venue currently preferred by comedians Kevin Hart, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and Tony Hinchcliffe. Fans will witness significant new material.

“Anyone who saw me last time at Resorts World Theatre knows that it was all over the place,” says Kreischer. “A little bit of best of but a lot of new, that’s the fun of Vegas. You’re doing one show each day, so you get to really throw everything into it. I’ve been working really hard and have a ton of new material, so I have a feeling we have a bunch of great new stuff along with a couple of oldies but goodies.”

Kreischer promises “a great show top to bottom,” although his pants will stay on in order to keep the curtain from being pulled on him. Kreischer’s pants staying on was not always the case, as accounts of his days (’90s) as the No. 1 partier at the No. 1 party college (Florida State University) testify.

He’s a parent now, though. He’s also built a career that’s flush with as much success as excess, so he has to be responsible to some degree. He’s aware of the fates of his some of his comic forebears.

“I think it’s always been clear that I’ve been drawn to tragic characters like (Chris) Farley and (John) Belushi, but when I got into comedy everyone seemed to be on the straight and narrow. I didn’t meet Ron White until later in life and (Dave) Attell quit drinking pretty quickly into me doing stand-up. I think if you’re wondering who my canary in the mine is, that, of course, is Doug Stanhope.”

Kreischer admits to suspecting he is the canary in Stanhope’s coalmine as well. Both hard-living comedians hold their own onstage but thrive on podcasts when the right chemistry is present. Kreischer also factors in an episode’s day and place in the formula as well as the caliber of talent.

“Tim Dillon makes me laugh hard as s***,” he says. “Theo Von and Stavvy (Stavros Halkias) you never do a bad podcast with. Same with Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder. All those guys just absolutely deliver when they’re on a podcast.”

Start the spring season by indulging in some of the most photoworthy and absolutely delicious sweet treats available on the Las Vegas Strip. We’ve done the research (in other words, we ate them all!), and we encourage you to do the same. Peruse these sugary delights and then hit the town and try them all for yourself.

Custard and Berries Croissant

Every recipe at Zeppola Café is an Italian family recipe. The owners set up shop first in New York City with their bakery and then expanded to Las Vegas. Now Zeppola o ers other eats besides sweet baked goods. (Can we stop for a minute and mention that they o er one of the best espresso martinis you will ever have?!)

PistachioCroissant

But at 4 a.m. every day, the sta is up in Zeppola Café’s kitchen whipping up those fresh-made desserts, and we’ve picked three of our favorites: the Custard and Berries Croissant, with a creamy custard inside a flaky buttery croissant and topped with fresh berries; the popular Pistachio Croissant, filled with a pistachio cream imported from Italy; and, let’s just say it, the droolworthy Cube Croissant, shaped into a cube and filled with mascarpone cream from Italy, topped with cocoa powder, white chocolate and a lady finger biscotti. This dessert is inspired by the classic tiramisu and each bite is to die for! Seriously!

Buddy’s Cake,

Chef Buddy Valastro helped put Hoboken, N.J., on the map when he shared with the world his flair for baking, and he brings those talents to Las Vegas with . Inside the small shop, inspired by the one in his hometown, you’ll find all his signature goodies. Two classic Italian desserts really shine here: the Lobster Tail, made with a crispy, flaky crust and filled with a French cream made with a little touch of Bailey’s; and the classic Cannolis, all filled with a madein-house sweet ricotta cheese with a hint of cinnamon and chocolate chips (take your choice of assorted flavors like birthday cake, peanut butter chocolate and classic). And, of course, there’s perhaps Buddy’s most famous baked treat, his Vanilla Rainbow Cake, where each layer of vanilla cake is a di erent color. It’s frosted with a vanilla buttercream.

Hershey’s Chocolate Brownie Sandwich

Hershey’s Cookies’N’ CremeCookie Sandwich

Most people visit Hershey’s Chocolate World to, well, check out the world of candies and chocolates that the brand makes—and man, oh man, there are a lot of options and even special editions of your favorites. But the real treat here is the bakery section of the massive store. This writer personally can’t visit without perusing the bakery cases and leaving with something. The sweet treats that line the cases

look so irresistible and delicious you might not want to choose just one, so we’ve helped you out by picking three yummy choices: The Hershey’s Chocolate Brownie

Sandwich is filled with decadent chocolate cream; the Hershey’s Cookies ’N’ Creme Cookie Sandwich version is filled with crunchy chocolate cookie pieces; and the marriage of peanut butter and chocolate live a sweet life in the Reese’s Peanut Butter Brownie, loaded with peanut butter and Hershey’s chocolate and topped with Reese’s Pieces.

we doughnut topped with crushed sprinkling

Talk about one of the most Instagrammable spaces in all of Las is a darling, gardenlike café, and its menu is filled with photoworthy yet totally delicious treats. Mainly known for its giant list of unbelievably delicious and unique co ee and drink treats, we found yummy desserts, too, all made fresh daily and in house: the signature Rose Cookie, a sugar cookie topped with a rose made of sweet vanilla frosting; the rich Oreo Donut, a chocolate doughnut topped with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (perfect for vegans); and the best-selling Basque Cheesecake, a mini cheesecake topped with fresh blueberries and strawberries with raspberry jam on the bottom and a sprinkling of gold flakes.

Instagram loves

There are so many cute things here to post about, from the décor to the merch to the sweet treats. But let’s pause on the sweet treats, because you’ll not only want to upload pictures of them to Insta and TikTok, you’ll also want to munch on the treats created especially for the world’s most famous cat! (Is she really a cat, though?) Go classic with the Hello Kitty Cupcake, a rich red velvet cupcake topped with cream cheese frosting, pink and white chocolate shavings and edible glitter and an edible character made out of fondant. The Keroppi Donut, based on a favorite character of many, is a flu y pastry filled with a light custardlike pastry cream and topped with a sugar glaze and fondant character. Our favorite is the Taiyaki Wa e Cone, filled with creamy vanilla and strawberry soft serve, which pairs divinely with the mochi-based wa e

cream cheese frosting, pink topped with a sugar glaze and cone that is chewy and crunchy and lip-smacking delicious.

Shake your groove thing at immersive dance party DISCOSHOW

It starts in a lounge with gra ti on the walls and casual seating meant to accommodate guests ready to get down at retro dance club experience DISCOSHOW. Part salute to late-’70s pop culture, part immersive production and part dancing lesson, DISCOSHOW takes inspiration from the past to create innovative entertainment populated by roller skaters, dazzling dancers and majordomo Ake.

Ake (based on the King of Disco Ake Blomqvist) doesn’t come into the picture right away. The lounge scene is upstairs from the first floor, where Space Cadet serves the tables at craft cocktail bar 99 Prince before, during and after shows on a Wednesday night in February. DISCOSHOW shares its loftlike level with Diner Ross, where an unassuming corner entrance leads to an immaculate restaurant conception with burgers, steaks and Disco Fries providing preshow caloric fuel. With 4/4 beats pumping courtesy of a resident DJ, the lounge contains an atmosphere of casualness broken by roller skaters Adonis, Apollo and Athena. The trio traverse the room to signify the proceedings have begun before circling up to dazzle assembled onlookers with agile polyurethanewheeled acrobatics.

Our skaters will lead the crowd to Glitterloft, a cubelike space inspired by the locations of early ’70s Loft parties. Legendary New York City party promoter David Mancuso established inclusive spaces where diversity was welcome, and people could dance until dawn to tastefully curated music played through state-of-the-art, pristine sound systems. It was the blueprint disco drew from and is paid homage to Wednesday through Friday nights at DISCOSHOW

Other historical footnotes touched on include the evolution of clubbing and the notorious Disco Demolition Night in Chicago’s Comiskey Park, but this gathering is about disco fever and the prescription calls for high hats, bass drums, Donna Summer and the six ’70s cultural archetypes from various backgrounds that drop their daytime guises to become Glitterloft’s featured dancers.

That entails mingling with the crowd when they aren’t making moves on elevated sca olding that rings the room. That’s where Ake introduces himself, motivates the gathered disco faithful and demonstrates basic choreography. Making motions of punching the air, capturing rainbows and encountering imaginary incontinent leprechauns quickly becomes muscle memory that Ake can conjure on command later in the show.

spiegelworld.com

He doesn’t need to command anyone to dance, though, as the show naturally draws fans of disco who are ready to get down and boogie. The sound system is perfectly designed for the room, the visuals are impressive but not overwhelming, and moveable platforms enable the cast to dazzle on the dance floor where disco never dies.

The party continues after the show concludes with guests having the option to stay in Glitterloft or move over to 99 Prince for enticing drinks like tequila-based Royale with Cheese or to Diner Ross for a Delaney deluxe burger with baked potato croquettes. Regardless of where one is at DISCOSHOW, the experience is guided by the sentiment expressed by a certain 1979 hit by Chic: These are the good times.

prepares to take his final Vegas bow (for now) with ‘The Encore Shows’

Rod Stewart may be reaching the end of the road as far as extensive world tours and his Caesars Palace residency, but he’s hardly done performing. Once he’s wrapped his 2025 One Last Time dates, Stewart will likely indulge his interest in swing music with select live dates in the U.K. The Scottish singer will keep up with Glasgow’s Celtic Football Club as much as he can and relax at his local pub, then he’ll get the singing itch again that’s best scratched in Vegas.

Stewart’s run at Caesars was supposed to end last year, but he added an encore set of dates that extended his residency through his 80th birthday. He wasn’t ready to let go of performing at the Colosseum or its martini-fueled after-parties. Stewart, whose Wolfie’s Whisky distillery bottles Scotch on the banks of Loch Lomond, still likes to hoist a few when he’s not training to beat world sprinting records for his age group.

And he still relishes life as much as he did when he fronted good-time rock band Faces, or was fi rst grabbed by the music of Muddy Waters and Sam Cooke as a budding vocalist. The former had grit and gravitas, while the latter’s versatility enabled him to appeal to wide and diverse audiences. Stewart borrowed from both and became a dynamic stage persona whose passionate voice lent itself well to a variety of musical styles.

renditions of Bonnie Tyler’s “It’s a Heartache” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” before venturing into more audience-familiar territory with Cat Stevens’ “The First Cut Is the Deepest” and Crazy Horse’s “I Don’t Want to Talk About It.”

There are plenty of hits. Stewart opened shows with “Infatuation” and delivered ’70s classic “Maggie May” and ’80s classic “Young Turks,” but much of his sets were devoted to songs he breathed new life into. Van Morrison certainly doesn’t mind royalties Stewart’s recording of “Have I Told You Lately” garnered, and Tom Waits gets points every time “Downtown Train” plays through the Colosseum’s sound system.

History will depict Stewart as one of the rock era’s great song interpreters, along with contemporaries such as the late Joe Cocker and retired Linda Ronstadt. Stewart is as e ervescent as ever, but he knows everyone’s time on the third planet from the sun is limited. As long as his body and voice hold out, he’ll keep taking the stage.

Meanwhile, Stewart, who will play the “teatime legend” slot at this summer’s Glastonbury Festival, will continue to enjoy a life fi lled with making headlines for meeting superfans who have followed him for seven decades, boosting Celtic F.C. and making time for swing with collaborator Jools Holland. His days of large-scale touring may come to an end, but he’s not quite ready to stop playing Faces songs live, at least in Las Vegas. ticketmaster.com

Stewart paid homage to Cooke and Waters at the most recent shows of his Colosseum residency, respectively, with covers of “Having a Party” and Waters’ “Rollin’ and Tumblin’.” He applied his signature rasp to
