Do you just wake up one morning and decide to go on a vacation? No! Going on a proper vacation takes a lot of planning and if you want to enjoy a stress free vacation then you should do a lot of financial planning. So what are the benefits of planning in advance? Well, you can really get bargains not only on tickets and accommodation but even on vacation loans. Taking a loan to go on a vacation helps you to pay back smaller amounts each month without feeling the pinch. Also, some banks offer very low interest rates on vacation loans. You should also set up a budget. Sit with your family or vacation buddy and decide how much money you need to cover your basic expenses. Then, put aside a little for meals, souvenirs and unexpected costs. For this reason, it is best to walk with your credit cards. These handy plastic buddies offer a lot of benefits especially when travelling. Most importantly, you want to be safe
when vacationing. Carrying credit cards allow for greater safety as opposed to carrying large amounts cash. They are also quite convenient and can be used for almost anything on your vacation from paying for accommodation to renting a car or even purchasing your tickets. Shopping and even eating at all those fancy restaurants can all be paid for with this simple card. In addition, it helps you to keep track of your purchases. The greatest aspect of a credit card is that it offers rewards; something that cash will not. You can get points or even money back each time you use your plastic buddy. So you always get great returns when you use your credit. Another thing to keep in mind when plan-
ning your vacation is that you should be flexible. If you spend more money at a five-star hotel then you should visit less expensive restaurants or if you wish to rent a car then you should limit your shopping. Also, it is important to do your research on packages and deals before you make any purchase. Sometimes, tour companies offer great all-inclusive deals. If you don’t plan on eating at the hotel and you just want a place to rest your head while you explore the country then you may not need an all-inclusive package and you may find a better deal online. Whatever you do remember to plan, think of your safety, walk with credit cards and small amounts of cash and enjoy your vacation to the max!

Sundae Fest has also pledged to make a monetary donation of part of the proceeds from the event to assist in the running of the activities of the home. “We don’t want it to stop there” Kenyon added “We are encouraging corporate T&T to get involved and sponsor a Children’s Home like we have. to the Sundae Fest team, “I just want to say thank you very much for including the St. Mary’s home in this initiative. I’m really pleased because ice cream reminds children of the good times, that is one of the reasons why I said yes to this initiative, because our children have had so many unpleasant things happen to them and this Ice Cream Festival will help to create pleasant memories.” The added surprise at the launch was the introduction of Nikki Crosby as an official
event partner. With vast expertise with children’s events including Nikkiland, Nikki Crosby was keen to join the Sundae Fest team to ensure that all the boys, girls and families have a great time at Sundae Fest. She describes the concept of Sundae Fest as “Nikkiland in different flavours”. She also made the point that it was important that sponsors continue to support events that encourage positive outlets for children and their fam-
ilies. Sponsors of Sundae Fest currently include Mario’s Pizza, Sunshine Snacks, KC Candy,Chiefeez and Dixee. Crystal Alvarez one of the event coordinators for the event expressed her delight with working with Nikki Crosby “We are all definitely excited to have Nikki on board, we know that her experience, passion and love for children will take the event to the next level and help us to ensure that Sundae Fest will forever be etched in the memories of all who attend!”

Neysha Soodeen, managing director of Toute Bagai Publishing Company, producer of MACO publications, is the recipient of the 2013 Marcella Martinez award. The presentation was made by the Jamaica Tourist Board's Deputy Director of Tourism Donnie Dawson during the joint Caribbean Tourism Organisation/Jamaica Tourist Board Allied Members luncheon in New York, Friday, held as part of Caribbean Week in New York activities. Established in 2004, the Marcella Martinez Award is presented annually for unparalleled achievement in the design and implementation of successful programs to strengthen and support Caribbean tourism. The award is named in honour of Jamaican
Marcella Martinez who dedicated her extraordinary career as a public relations professional to the promotion of tourism to the Caribbean. Neysha Soodeen has been showcasing the Caribbean to an international readership for 15 years through MACO Caribbean Living as well as MACO Destinations, a magazine which she launched in 2003 to feature the Caribbean from a holistic perspective. Last year, Soodeen launched a Caribbean travel portal promoting the best of the best of Caribbean destinations. Dawson described Soodeen as an embodiment "of the spirit behind this award. And those who know her, know that her passion for the region is consummate, resulting in her business venture which showcases the sophisticated side of the Caribbean." Soodeen is the architect of Toute Bagai Publishing which publishes MACO Caribbean Living, the Caribbean's first regionally-distributed retail magazine focusing on architecture, cuisine and travel. The publication also became the first Caribbean-produced magazine to be distributed internationally at major booksellers such as Barnes & Noble, Borders, WHSmith, Chapters and Indigo. Her latest endeavour is a Caribbean APP company, using her 15 years of content in the Caribbean to place on interactive portals, and downloadable on all smartphones. Accepting the award, the Caribbean publisher said after living away from the Caribbean for many years, she realised the Caribbean was known simply as a tourism destination, and those away from the region lacked the appreciation of how "we lived, what we ate and how we played." She added "the sophisticated side of the Caribbean was a well hidden secret and I wanted to expose that and launched MACO in 1999. After that, in 2003, I launched my second magazine Destinations, in Jamaica, and thus I feel an affinity to the island and its people. I am honoured to be the recipient of this prestigious award."

After participating in triathlons for 10 years, Maria Shakira Gooding recently switched due to knee injuries and a change in passion to Mountain Biking in 2012. Revealing that she had a bike before she could even walk, this 23 year old said her decision was not a hard transition. She started mountain biking when she was a triathlete as a form of training and to practice bike handling skills. One to push the limits, coupled with the constant urge to be faster than all the guys, Maria says that mountain biking is easier for her because she enjoys it more and is content that she can now be focused on one sport as opposed to three. Although Maria is currently the MTB national champion having competed in Barbados and Tortola, Maria says that does not see herself as a professional just yet. “When I can give up my jobs, train all day, race internationally and eat, dream and sleep MTB then I'd consider myself that," she says emphasising that her real goal is to be the first woman to represent T&T at Mountain Biking at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Maria became motivated by her brother's (Jason Gooding) successful career as a triathlete participated in the sport only racing four years competitively around the Caribbean. In competing with her brother on the Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club team, Maria shares "there was no real competition between us. We both did different distances, so I'm yet to race against him to see who’s the real champion. We have raced on same teams together and that was fantastic, we are so in-sync when it comes to those things. "Their close bond was evident during a triathlon when Jason was having bike problems and Maria stayed with him the entire course. “I got out of competitive mode when I realised the problem and just finished for fun. According to Maria, If it were not for her injuries, ( she also got hit by a car on a race course) she believes she would continue doing triathlons since she always wanted to compete on the international circuit and do the Hawaiian IRON MAN World Championship- an initiative conceptualised to challenge athletes at endurance swim, running and biathlon events. "I think that everyone feels to quit at some point but never for me during competition. I put my brain into a different mind-set. I grind my teeth and smile throughout majority of my workouts," she said. As for how long Maria sees herself Mountain Biking competitively, she says within the next decade. She also mentions that if she was not doing triathlons or mountain biking, she would do Taekwondo. “I did Taekwondo as a kid, just two belts away from black and I was quite good. I am sure my Master would have been encouraging me to continue fighting. Till this day every time he sees me he says, "Maria Gooding, good fighter, good fighter!" she joked. When Maria is not train-
ing, she is busy being doing other things, like coaching kids including eight under 16 boys from the Rainbow Rescue home to do triathlons and managing summer camps. She is also a graphic design artist, event organiser and is currently pursuing her associate degree at COSTAATT. In her down time, she models and does photography as a hobby. For now, Maria plans to spend a month in the United States training and racing with a couple pro-mountain bikers. “This will be an experience and an eye opener for me." she said. Even though today there may many females pursuing a career in mountain biking locally than before, Maria is hopeful that there would be more interest towards the sport. She also mentions that anyone can get involved at any age, once you are willing to try.

It doesn't matter if you lugged long outstanding goals into the New Year, devised exciting new resolutions or compiled a list of vague wishes in your mind. You stand a better chance of achieving what you want, if you pause along the way to assess your progress and plan how you will proceed. The following questions can help you do that.

Makeup aficionados’ inherent fascination almost addiction, with bronzers is something worth taking notice of. What exactly is a Bronzer? Bronzer is face makeup that can be found in loose or compact form ranging from super shiny to matte formulated with all skin tones in mind. The shiny bronzers can be used to bring a warm summery, shimmery glow to the face and and is usually applied in areas that the sun would naturally hit the face first such as the forehead, nose bridge, cheeks and chin. For the ladies with open pores on their faces, it would be best to steer clear of the shiny stuff and head over to the matte bronzer section of the cosmetics store. Shiny bronzers would only serve to enhance and highlight your open pores making them seem larger than normal, a terrible faux pas in makeup. In addition to being perfect for this skin type, matte bronzers can be used
to contour the nose, cheekbones and jawline, a darker than your skin tone colour would be ideal for this application. There are a plethora of makeup bronzers available on the market designed for your use but always keep in mind your natural skin tone when choosing a bronzer colour that is best suited to your unique complexion. Bronzers should make you glow with a natural sun kissed look, a rule of thumb would be to choose one half a shade to one shade darker than your own skin tone if you want to deepen your tan or a shade lighter depending if you wish to highlight. Dark skinned ladies should gravitate towards copper tones, bronzes and cinnamon colours, Medium skin tones should veer towards a gold flecked or rose hued bronzer and fair shades would do best with honey, peach or apricot tones. Use a wide fluffy face brush to apply, swirl brush on bronzer, tap off excess and using a light hand apply to areas like the tops of the cheekbones,
down the nose, forehead and chin. Remember Bronzers are primarily designed to lend to the skin sheer, natural colour effects and highlights that enhances varying skin tones or deepen a tan.

1. What goals did I set for myself at the beginning of this year or what secret wishes were I too afraid to even verbalize? 2. What steps have I taken so far to achieve my goals and did they produce the results I wanted? 3. Which steps were difficult and why? 4. What challenges did I encounter and how did I handle them? Have I accepted responsibility for my own self-sabotaging attitudes and habits, which have negatively affected my progress? 5. What did I learn about myself (my insecurities, strengths and weaknesses, etc) from my successes and setbacks? 6. Is my support base as solid as I hoped and are there people I should stop depending on for encouragement and help? 7. Am I satisfied with where I am right now? If yes, do I continue on the same path, revise my plan or change course? If no, should I review my goals, revamp my enthusiasm and re-energize my efforts or adjust my vision for a different outcome? The answers to these questions will give you a clear perspective of where you are on the path to achieving your goals. You may discover that despite obstacles, you managed to accomplish several goals on your
list. Celebrate of course, but beware of getting too comfortable, careless or cocky with a these successes, when you have more work to do and other goals to accomplish. If you take your eyes off your ultimate goal or other goals on your list, you could lost your momentum and get sidetracked. Be grateful for what you have achieved so far but stay focused, determined, persistent and proactive. Or, you may have to admit that you made very little progress or none at all. Life isn't perfect, neither are you and even the loftiest goals are not cast in stone. Sometimes, life circumstances overshadow and suppress your desire and motivation to pursue your personal goals. The pressures of everyday life with its ongoing responsibilities: family obligations, work demands and other commitments. Maybe, you are your own saboteur. You struggle with negative self-image, procrastination, self-doubt and lingering old fears of failure as well as success. Internal issues and external challenges trip you up and keep you stuck. However, don't sit
too long with stagnant thoughts of what you did not accomplish, blaming others and making excuses for your inaction or mistakes. Rethink what you want to achieve, refresh the vision and recommit to the path you need to take to achieve your goals. Whatever your assessment reveals: progress and achievement or little movement and regret, you must move forward. If your goals are important and a priority in your life, you must marshal your determination and the necessary support and resources you need to accomplish them. Periodic assessments are necessary to ensure that you are on the best path to achieve what you want. Whether you're dealing with New Year resolutions, long outstanding goals or secret wishes, pause for a while and reassess what you've done, if anything, to move you closer to them and decide how you will move forward. Take some time for a mid-year assessment. http://about.me/cherylwright

Customer Service Tip #3: Inviting Feedback
Business Owners, your Salespeople have extensive contact with your customers; use them as a source of feedback to find out what your customers want, what your customers like or dislike about the company, what is the competition offering and how your customers feel about these offerings. Never assume; ask! Engaging the minds of your sales professionals will not only win their hearts but can also save your company million$ of dollar$. One of the most interesting customer feedback stories I ever read, was The Ritz – Carlton Hotel’s decision to upgrade the bathrooms at their
signature properties. The company invested millions of dollars in shipping tons of the most exquisite green marble from Italy which were installed meticulously in their guests’ bathrooms. After all their efforts and expenses, a decision was taken to invite feedback about its service, accommodation and ambience. The results? Their guests wanted their bathrooms to be pure white so they could see it was clean. Cause: Drinking and eating too much. Too many cocktails or salty hors d’oeuvres and you could wake up looking like a blowfish (and not in a good way). Aah! “Often holiday foods are salty, and salt acts like a magnet,” causing your body to retain water and “making you puffy,” explains Bonnie Taub-Dix, R.D., a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. “Dilute the salt by drinking lots of water.” Or try other caffeine-free fluids, she says, like peppermint tea, which can also ease any digestion issues you may have after overdoing it. “To help keep fluids from pooling in your face overnight, sleep propped up on two or three pillows,” advises Margaret Weiss, an assistant professor of dermatology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, in Baltimore. Your bladder is the hollow muscular organ that collects urine, and it can be quite frustrating when it doesn't function normally. One of the most common bladder problems is a sensitive bladder (or light adult incontinence), which is generally caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles or disorders in the nervous system regulating the bladder. As you get older, your pelvic floor muscles weaken. This can also be the case during pregnancy and after childbirth. When you urinate, your pelvic floor muscles play an important role – this muscle group relaxes at the same time as the bladder contracts (or tightens) in
order to let the urine out – so when they weaken, you have less control. Even with a healthy bladder, a sneeze or laugh can sometimes be enough to trigger an involuntary loss of urine. But there's no need to suffer in silence because there are simple steps you can take to help prevent such bladder embarrassments. There are daily exercises that help strengthen your pelvic floor, and you can use pantyliners that have been especially developed for this kind of problem. You can try Always Leakguard Plus™ pads with Odor Lock and Always Dri-Liners, both of which have OdorLock™ technology that can help protect you from unwanted
odors. Which type of sensitive bladder do I have? There are various types of light adult incontinence, the most common being “stress incontinence.” This is usually caused by strain to the pelvic floor during pregnancy and childbirth. Women with stress incontinence feel an uncontrolled leaking of small amounts of urine when they laugh or sneeze. Pelvic floor exercises can help train these muscles and thus prevent light adult incontinence. Another type of light adult incontinence is “urge incontinence” – so named because of the sudden and immediate urge to go to the toilet. This is when the bladder uncontrollably squeezes out urine before it's actually full. Such an overactive bladder can contract (or squeeze) even when you don't want it to. If you are experiencing similar symptoms, ask your doctor for more information to find the cause and the right therapy. If you suffer from a sensitive bladder, your physician or therapist may advise you to try pelvic floor muscle training. The pelvic floor is one of the muscle groups in the body providing support for your bladder, intestines and uterus. Located between your legs, the pelvic floor muscles run in a sling shape from your pubic bone at the front to the base of your spine at the back. This muscle group helps with the correct position of the urethra, the tube that urine comes out of. So, if your pelvic floor is too weak, it can result in a sensitive bladder. The good news is that you can train your pelvic floor muscles like any other muscle group in your body. Correct and regular training will strengthen the pelvic muscles and, therefore, help minimize the symptoms of a sensitive bladder.

Are your window treatments looking tired? Or are you tired of your window treatments? Here are some easy fixes to inject new life and easily transform your space.
1. Add or Remove a Tieback. Many of our homes today have drapery that go all the way to the floor, often even “breaking or puddling” on the floor for a dramatic look. If your current drapes don’t have a tieback and they fall straight to the floor, add a contrasting tieback for a quick and easy change.
For an interesting conversation point, consider ditching the traditional tassel tiebacks for something novel such as rope, leather belts, vintage collars, etc. If you already use tiebacks, remove them and just let your drapery hang in all their glory.
2. Add a Cornice or Valance.
If you do currently have drapery only at your windows, consider adding a top treatment. You can get as simple or elaborate as you want to be. Ensure that your new addition works well with your existing décor. Very often the more ele-
ments you add to the window, the more ‘decorated’ the room feels. It is an opportunity to add style, texture and colour and raise the interest level of the room. And speaking of the feel of your room….
3. Raise the Room.
Updating the look – and more importantly the feel – of your home is always a good mood lifter and might be just the change you need right now. The question for you is – just where are your curtain rods and valances hanging? Take your treatment to the ceiling! This makes the room feel larger and taller. If your existing drapery is too short and will ‘flood’ if raised higher, consider adding a border in a contrasting or coordinating fabric to the hem or heading of the drapery. This actually can look quite trendy; channeling the colour blocking style. As a window treatment designer I typically design and install window treatments as high as practical over the windows. It gives the treatment more ‘presence’ and increases the decorative equity of the treatment. Too low – such as right above the window – simply pulls your eyes down into the room and makes the room feel as though the ceiling has dropped several feet. Window treatments mounted too low can literally make your room feel smaller and “heavier”. If you want to raise your roof – raise your treatments!
4. Update the hardware. Do you have rod pocket curtains and are still hanging them from electrical conduit? Consider updating your hardware. Get something decorative and fun. Or convert your rod pocket or tab curtains to
drapery and install on a decorative pole with rings. Rod pockets can look dated and standard. Traversing drapery will give you the ability to easily draw the drapery away from the window and this gives you the opportunity to layer. Imagine a layer of sheer, a shade or a blind closer to the window, with a layer of pleated panels installed on a decorative pole with rings. You can open the drapery during the day to let in light and air and change the look of the space.
5. Simply Add Window Treatments. Today, window treatments are just another way to express your style. They can be formal, casual, modern, classic – you name it, a window treatment can do it. Nothing says “ah, this room is finished!” like a window treatment made just for you. Are all your windows dressed? Or do you find window treatments too fussy? In Trinbago we are often forced to cover the window because of privacy issues. But some of us pay little attention to the decorative potential of our window coverings. We opt for hard treatments and pay no attention to integrating it into the décor. I have a personal dislike for vertical blinds in a home. That’s just me. Horizontal wood blinds, on the other hand, have lots of potential. I am especially partial to 2” horizontal wood blinds layered under side panels and/or a top treatment. It has its place in a non-formal space. These are just a handful of ideas to help you get your creative juices flowing.

Pasta Power: The Fuel for Exercise and Healthy Lifestyle Did you know that pasta is commonly called "the food of champions" within the athletic community? Not only is pasta filling and good for you, it supplies the fuel you need to keep going. In fact, about 50% of the body's source of energy comes from carbohydrates, and pasta is a phenomenal source of complex carbohydrates. It's no wonder long-distance runners use pasta as a form of "carbohydrate loading" before a race. You may not be running a marathon anytime soon, but you can still benefit from pasta's energizing properties. Unlike sugary desserts and candy, pasta
offers sustained energy rather than shortlived bursts. Here's some fuel for thought: Pasta not only makes you feel good but gives you lots of additional benefits, too. The Vitamin B-complex found in whole grain pasta has been known to help stimulate brain activity. Talk about a smart choice! And the benefits don't end there. Studies show a diet rich in complex carbohydrates helps promote heart health. So, get that water boiling. Pasta will bowl you over with the taste, energy and, just possibly, a healthier heart.
