A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is pleased to promote the subject of standardisation in our schools for the future development of our country. We believe that since Standards play an important role in our daily lives, our pupils should be nurtured from a tender age on the benefits and use of standards. This cultivates good cultural habits and practices as they prepare for secondary and tertiary levels of learning and later the world of work. With the increased demand for quality and reliable products and services, we must ensure that our leaders of tomorrow start to focus on how they can better develop Guyana through the implementation of national and internationally recognised standards, and a functioning management system. We encourage our Educators to use innovative ways to guide this process as they use this booklet to prepare our children for the future. The journey continues not only to educate our pupils and our educators but to improve the quality of life for all Guyanese. Thank you for providing us with this opportunity; to let us all work together to "promote a culture of quality through standards".

‘Quality is everyone’s responsibility’- W. Edwards Deming.

GUIDE FOR TEACHERS TO ALL TEACHERS Thank you for taking the time to guide and encourage the use of this booklet. The booklet was created as a means of disseminating information to pupils about standards, to foster discussions within classrooms and to encourage further learning through other entertaining media. It is recommended that learning be integrated into the classrooms so that pupils are able to associate standards with what occurs in their daily lives and routines. The booklet is also the main source of information for pupils participating in the biannual GNBS Standards in Academia Competition. We trust in the ability of our teachers to ensure that the message of Standardization is promoted regularly while still encouraging learning and discussions.
