Start with the basics and learn what it takes to turn mud and rock into objects that last a lifetime. Whether you’re shaping clay on the potter’s wheel or sculpting with your hands, you will be amazed with each step along the way. Make sure to take advantage of the Open Studios included with enrollment because, as you know, practice makes perfect. Students are encouraged to supply their own towel/rag. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

INTRO TO HANDBUILDING with Nancy Manubay

5 Mondays May 8 - June 12 (no class May 29) 5-8pm

Join in as we focus on learning introductory skills for handbuilding ceramic objects. We will cover basic techniques: pinching, building with coils, and soft slab construction. Each class will begin with some ceramic vocabulary, a look at pictures of completed work using the technique covered that day, and a short project demonstration. Note: Class will not be held May 29.

Prerequisite: Intro to Wheel Throwing or equivalent experience.

HANDBUILT PLANTER with Nancy Manubay & Tiana Lopez

In this two-day workshop, you will design and build your own terra cotta planter using handbuilding techniques in the Ceramics Studio. After the firing process, you’ll return to GoggleWorks’ Gardens at Lauer’s Park to pot your plant in your handmade planter.

Design your own personalized ceramic jewelry! In this two-day workshop, you will spend the first day working in the Ceramics Studio to design and fabricate earrings or pendants out of clay. After the firing process, you will return to join us in the Metals Studio to create the hardware for your jewelry. In this class, you will have the option to create three pieces of jewelry: bracelets, earrings, or necklaces.
