THE STAGE IS SET... The wonderful season of shows in this brochure continues the Grand Opera House tradition of presenting a wide range, so that there is an array of the best live theatre, music and entertainment to suit everyone. We are particularly fortunate to have secured two musicals which have recently been playing to packed houses in the West End and won prestige awards. The irresistible Beautiful, the story of musical legend Carole King is an emotional, joyful tribute to a legend of rock ‘n’ roll, visiting Belfast on its inaugural tour. Another runaway West End success - Jersey Boys - makes its first visit to Northern Ireland. And when the tour of the spectacular stage musical Titanic was announced, I was in no doubt it had to come to the Grand Opera House: the first professional production of a show with poignant emotional power and particular resonance in Belfast.

There is no more appropriate setting for traditional family pantomime than the Grand Opera House: comedy, magic and spectacular stage effects lavishly presented in the equally magical splendour of the famous auditorium. Generations have first revelled in the wonder of live theatre at the Grand Opera House – the Home of Pantomime in Northern Ireland – and the tradition of fun, song, dance, music and spectacle is one we are very proud to keep alive. Don’t miss the sensational production of Peter Pan, the first time we have presented the title as a panto in over a decade. We look forward to welcoming you many times during the forthcoming season. Ian Wilson Chief Executive, Grand Opera House

A THEATRE FOR ALL The Grand Opera House occupies a special place at the heart of the performing arts in Northern Ireland, offering audiences a distinctive choice of high-end theatre experiences in its famously inspiring historic surroundings. This season’s programme reflects the Grand Opera House’s commitment to providing ‘Theatre for All’. There’s an exciting range to choose from, including the best of the current touring West End shows, top local amateur dramatics, and, showing as part of this year’s Belfast International Arts Festival, celebrated physical theatre from France with Celui Qui Tombe, all supported by the Arts Council’s National Lottery Fund.

just a first-rate programme but the tremendous work of the Grand Opera House staff in extending their education and outreach activities into many communities across the city, ensuring public funding reaches and attracts new audiences for the arts. Successful partnerships between the Grand Opera House and other cultural stakeholders should also be commended. Their work with NI Opera, Belfast International Arts Festival and the Ulster Orchestra, for example, helps strengthen the cultural offer available in Belfast for residents and tourists alike. Music and lyrics by Maury Yeston Book by Peter Stone

TUESDAY 24 – SATURDAY 28 APRIL In the final hours of 14 April 1912 the RMS Titanic, on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, collided with an iceberg and ‘the unsinkable ship’ slowly sank. It was one of the most tragic disasters of the 20th Century. 1517 men, women and children lost their lives. Based on real people aboard the most legendary ship in the world, Titanic The Musical is a stunning and stirring production focusing on the hopes, dreams and aspirations of her passengers who each boarded with stories and personal ambitions of their own. The third class immigrants dream of a better life in America, the second class imagine they too can join the lifestyles of the rich and famous, whilst

the millionaire barons of the first class anticipate legacies lasting forever. With music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Peter Stone. The original Broadway production of Titanic The Musical won five Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book. This brilliant new production has won sweeping critical acclaim across the board.
