THE GOLF COURSE The impressive course was designed by Howard Swan Msc, past president of The European Insitute of Golf Course Architects, who has over 30 years’ experience. His philosophy, to create a course as if it has always been there - has been sensitively applied to Boavista preserving, integrating and harmonizing with the area’s natural beauty and terrain. That the course is a delight to the eye is manifest all over the golf course at Boavista. Strategic planting of indigenous species of flowers, shrubs and trees is evident at every twist and turn. Coupled with the landscaper's art of blending all the elements of terrain, lakes, streams and other unique features make the course very attractive indeed. Complimenting this without any human influence are the spectacular views from every hole, the impressive hills of Monchique to the North, the Algarvean coastline toward Sagres and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Looking eastward lie the sparkling waters of the bay of Lagos. Each hole of the golf course offers a unique blend of
all these elements. The first nine, in general, climb to the highest point of the resort, where a pause at the eighth tee will allow one to experience all of those views. Subsequent holes descend to an area where water features, streams, lakes and arched bridges, reminiscent of landscaped gardens abound. There is also a faithful reproduction of the famous Swilken Bridge found at the 18th hole of St Andrews. Blending in to this are the villas, townhouses and apartments. Design and colours have been carefully considered to enhance and compliment the resort as a whole – importantly none impinge on the enjoyment of the golf course It's always difficult to name a signature hole but here it is almost impossible. The combination of design, location and the sheer variety of holes make playing Boavista a wonderful experience.
