Health Insurance Is Big News 健保法案成矚目焦點

Executive Yuan announced an increase in National Health Insurance premiums4 to cover the NT$50 billion debt of its current program. † The government plans to issue subsidies, so the 0.62% increase will not change the payments for most of those insured. 美國通過一項健保法案，保證百分之九十五的美國 人很快就能享有健保保障。這對歐巴馬總統而言是個大 勝利，但是有人質疑這些改變將如何影響蕭條的美國經 濟。一則相關新聞是，台灣行政院宣佈調漲全民健保費 以彌補現行方案的五百億台幣負債。台灣政府計畫發補 貼以使這項 0.62% 的調漲案不至於影響大部分受保人的 保費支出。

New Exoplanet† 1 Excites Astronomers 太空探索發現「冷木星」 Astronomers have discovered an exoplanet 1,500 light-years from Earth. The exoplanet, CoRoT-9b, is about the size of Jupiter, and its temperatures are thought to be somewhere between -20°C and 160°C. It could even have water in the form of clouds, but most scientists don’t think they’ll find life there. However, CoRoT-9b shows that other solar systems were made like ours, so it is very possible that some of them also developed intelligent2 life. 自然環境

In fact, camels store fat in their distinctiveu humps, not water. Because body fat traps heat, camels would be too warm if they had it all over their body. By storing a 10
lot of it in a hump, though, the rest of a camel’s body can stay cooler. This stored fat is then used for energy when the camel can’t find enough food. One of the main reasons that camels can go so long without water is because of their special red blood cells.2 While mammalsh usually have round red blood cells, camels’ red blood cells are oval.3 This helps the blood continue to flow even when the camel is
