Takes its name from the Old Norse word for sea serpent, near Llandudno has the longest artificial ski slope in Britain - built in 1987, it’s nearly 1,000ft long.

LlanfairPG Aside from being the longest place name in Europe and the longest single word valid internet domain name in the world. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrn drobwllllantysiliogogogoch which means. The Church of St Mary in the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the church of St Tysilio near a red cave, and it is often shortened to Llanfairpwll or Llanfair PG was used as a secret password in the cult1968 Jane Fonda movie Barbarella.
Seven Wonders of Wales (Saith Rhyfeddod Cymru in Welsh) is a traditional list of notable landmarks in North Wales, commemorated in an anonymously written rhyme in the late 18th or early 19th century by an English Visitor to North Wales: Pistyll Rhaeadr and Wrexham steeple Snowdon's mountain without its people Overton yew trees, St Winefride's well Llangollen bridge and Gresford bells.
South Stack
The historic South Stack Lighthouse is located on a small island reached via a descent of 400 steps down the steep mainland cliffs.
Conwy Quay Measuring in at just 10ft deep, 6 feet wide and 10ft two inches high, there’s a property on the Quayside of Conwy that’s the smallest throughout the whole of Britain. Now a popular tourist attraction and once the home of a 6’3” tall fisherman back in 1900, it’s one of the things that makes North Wales so unique and should be seen by everyone at least once.
Rhos in Sea has, in St Trillo’s, the smallest chapel in Britain, measuring only 11ft by 8ft and seating just six people.
Its history... Wales has a rich heritage of magical and mystical tales including the Mabinogion (a famous collection of stories taken from medieval Welsh manuscripts and were compiled in the 12th and 13th centuries.) They describe the lives and the heroic and magical achievements of a group of interrelated characters and recount the encounters between the mortal and underworlds. These fables embrace aspects of a pagan era and the medieval world of the Arthurian age; there is also the famous myths and legends of Gelert, rhys a Meinir, Prince Madoc and profiles of famous bards and writers to name a few.

Lawn Tennis It was in the gardens of 17th century Nantclwyd Hall, near Ruthin, that Major Walter Wingfield apparently invented lawn tennis in 1873. He came up with the idea after playing with a new kind ball made from of India rubber which had been designed to bounce on grass. The hall is said to have been the bolthole to which Christine Keeler fled in the wake of the 1963 Profumo affair.
Women’s Institute The first ever meeting of the Women's Institute in the UK, took place in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll in 1915.
Snowdon At 1085 metres (3,560ft) high, Mount Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales and it surpasses the heights of any mountain in neighbouring England and Ireland.
Love spoons have long been a traditional romantic gift in Wales, dating back to the seventeenth century. A young man would spend many hours carving a spoon for his sweetheart. He would decorate it with symbols of love, all of which have different meanings. The lucky girl's father would then inspect the spoon to judge whether or not the suitor was a skilled craftsman and capable of providing for the family.
Wrexham Larger In 1881 the first lager brewery in Britain was opened in Wrexham by German immigrants. Wrexham Lager was, for a long time, the only draught beer served on British ships, as, unlike other traditional beers, it was unaffected by the motion of the waves.
Snowdonia National Park Snowdonia National Park is an International Dark Sky reserve, only the tenth place in the World to gain this status

The Leek The leek is the national emblem of Wales. According to legend the patron saint of Wales st David on the eve of the battle against the saxons advised Welsh soldiers to wear leeks in their caps so as to easily distinguishfriend from foe. The Harp The harp is the only traditional instrument in Wales with an unbroken history up to the present day. It is also the instrument most often cited in Welsh literature through the ages. Daffodil The daffodil is the national flower of Wales and is a symbol of our patron saint, David, (Dewi sant in Welsh) and of rebirth and faithfulness because they bloom every year even after the harshest winters. st David’s Day is celebrated in Wales on the 1st of March each year.

Out and About from Llandudno
No heritage tour of North Wales is complete without an insight into the slate mining industry of bygone days.
The 100-year old Great Orme Tramway is the only cable hauled tramway in Britain, and still uses the original Edwardian tramcars. At the halfway station you can tour an exhibition and see the Winding house in action. once at the summit you will be treated to a spectacular view of the snowdonia mountain range. Meet the resident goats who live on the orme and who are descended from the original goats given as a gift to Queen Victoria.
The first is a visit to Llechwedd which offers two underground rides and free surface attractions. Climb aboard Britain’s steepest cable railway taking you 100s of feet underground and hear tales of a miner’s life to the voice of sion Dolgarregddu as he goes down the mine to work aged 12. Continue on the miners trail with a journey on the Ffestiniog Railway, a unique steam hauled narrow gauge railway built to carry slate from Blaenau Ffestiniog to the port of Porthmadog, a 13 ½ mile journey through the scenic Vale of Ffestiniog. Follow the slate route through the most dramatic passes in snowdonia calling at the picturesque mountain village of Beddgelert en-route to llanberis at the foot of Mount Snowdon. The village is the home of the National Slate Museum housing Victorian engineering workshops of the Dinorwig slate Quarry - a living workshops museum with exhibitions and daily slate splitting demonstrations.
Before leaving llandudno a visit to MOSTYN is a must as it is Wales’ foremost contemporary art gallery and visual arts centre in Wales. The six gallery spaces exhibit the best in international contemporary art and craft, showing artists and makers from Wales and beyond. With friendly staff, activities for all ages, a lovely shop and a bright and airy café, there's something for everyone. A full exhibition programme showcases the best contemporary art in Wales and from around the world which change seasonally and vary from large-scale thematic shows to small sitespecific projects.

Our narrow-gauge steam trains have climbed through the beautiful Vale of Ffestiniog between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog for 150 years - yet have modern, comfortable carriages with light refreshments and on-train toilets for convenience. This scenic railway is ideal as part of a circular coach tour of Snowdonia with one-way trips (taking around 75 minutes) available from either end of the railway.
This spectacular railway runs for 25 miles from coast to coast across the foothills of Snowdon - between Caernarfon on the banks of the Menai Strait and Porthmadog in Cardigan Bay. On-train refreshments enable (pre-booked) morning coffee, a light lunch or afternoon tea to be included in your itinerary. A one-way trip takes two and a half hours, with shorter journeys available.

Chances are the staff are garden buffs, so you can grab a sneaky trick-of-the-trade or two. And get advice on which garden supplies to choose. Things like compost, plant feed and tools. And most importantly, what to plant and where to plant it.
The majority of gardens are open to visitor’s right through until autumn (some into winter) but others will vary from garden to garden and some may only be open by appointment, so please check before you visit.

Walk the coast The Wales Coast Path is 870 miles in total of which 340 miles are in North Wales. You can explore the path in sections from North East Wales/Chester border to Southern Snowdonia not forgetting the Isle of Anglesey. Offa’s Dyke Be inspired by the stunning views of Snowdonia, the Clwydian Range and the Dee Valley. Soak up the history of ancient hill forts, castles and abbeys. This iconic route runs for 177 miles (285km) through the breathtaking borderlands of Wales & England. The National Trails follows a spectacular dyke that the King Offa constructed in the 8th Century to divide his Kingdom of Mercia from rival regions. In North Wales it climbs the hill from Prestatyn and follows the Clwydian Range, officially designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It passes Iron Age hill forts along
for an unforgettable experience. A quarter of the llyn Peninsula’s dynamic coastline is a recognised Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. The coastline is a favourite among walkers who can explore it all thanks to the Welsh Coast Path. Along the network of paths you’ll discover stunning scenery, nature reserves and unique dune systems.
Almost all of Anglesey’s 125 mile coastline is an Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. Within the designated Area of outstanding Natural Beauty are three stretches of Anglesey’s heritage coast. Along the island’s coastline, you’ll discover everything from cliffs to nature reserves. The marine life is in abundance, and the Welsh Coast Path surrounds the island – giving walkers complete access. the way. It crosses Llandegla Forest and moors before crossing the Dee Valley along Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and heading south via Chirk Castle. There are countless opportunities for circular walks along its route. Mary Jones Walk In 1800, when she was 15 years old, Mary Jones saved what little money she had for six years to afford to buy a bible and walked
barefoot from Llanfihangel-yPennant across valleys and around mountains to Bala. By following this linear route, you will walk 28 miles through the spectacular countryside of the old county of Meirionydd, from an enchanting valley at the foot of Cadair Idris, Llanfihangel-yPennant to the shores of Llyn Tegid, Bala. You will cross public paths and paths used with the permission of the landowner, over mountain pastures and through woodlands, along old romantic lanes, country roads and short unavoidable sections on the main road. www.bydmaryjonesworld.org.uk
