Production Staff Bios Mr. Paul Buckley ‘86 (Producer) has spent parts of close to 40% of his years in this amazing theater - none quite so challenging and stimulating as this past one. He thanks his amazing production staff who have put in so many hours and have worked so hard to make this show so special. He thanks his cast for all of the work they’ve been doing since November learning to tap dance and pushing themselves beyond what they thought they could do. He especially thanks Corey Ferrick and the amazing stage crew for learning the ropes - now just a figurative term - to get this theater up and running with all of its new bells and whistles. Lastly, and most especially, he is grateful to Monica, Anthony, Caroline and Gabe for being so understanding for all of the missed dinners, practices and bedtime stories. Ms. Mimi Cullari (Technical Director) has really enjoyed working with the sound, light, and stage crew to get the theater up and running for 42nd Street. A veteran of school theater, she hopes all the crew members get the rush that comes with seeing their finished work on stage and saying, “I built that.” A bassist, singer, and songwriter whose work has been featured on ten independent music releases, Mr. Kevin deSouza ‘04 (Bass) is also a proud alumnus of the GDA, having appeared in productions of 42nd Street, Arsenic and Old Lace, Oklahoma!, and Footloose, among others. Though touring with award-winning Celtic rock group Ceili Rain and his own DC-based project, Uptown Boys Choir, keep him busy, de Souza jumped at the chance to contribute to the Sheehy Theater’s inaugural performance. He would like to thank Gonzaga for having him back, and for all he learned as a student. Mr. Matthew Duffy (Technical Director): “If you tell someone you drive a pick-up truck, they will automatically assume you’d love to help them move (then try to pay you with pizza and beer, even if you don’t drink). If you tell someone you are an artist, they will think you would absolutely love to stencil a border in their kitchen (then compensate you with the “opportunity” to babysit while they go out to eat). If you tell someone you usedto work as a carpenter, welder, electrician, fabricator, and sculptor, they might try to sweet-talk you into supervising Stage Crew. This last thing will work out, however, because if you supervise Stage Crew, you will meet students who are simultaneously the most hilarious, capable, individualistic, awkward, and intelligent people you have come across in your short teaching career. But, whatever you do, in your 1st production bio, DO NOT refer to your gorgeous wife Elizabeth (Visi ‘05) as your “new wife” because it implies that you had been secretly married before. Mrs. Mary Lou Galvin (Rehearsal Pianist/Vocal Coach) is thrilled to be continuing in her daughter Katie’s (Visi ’12/GDA ’11-’12) footsteps by working w/ this year’s talented GDA cast. ML holds an MM in Accompaniment and Chamber Music from CUA; has accompaniments credits from Westminster Choir College; & is a graduate of the Liturgical Studies Program of Georgetown University. ML has musically directed for over 40 productions; has been rehearsal pianist & choral director for several opera companies; has taught piano & directed musicals at The Duke Ellington School for the Arts in DC; and is the Director of the Sunday 5:30 Ensemble of Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown, where she is also teaches Upper School Music. ML’s wish for this GDA cast: May Broadway live always in your heart! Tap on, remember to breathe, & harmonize! Mr. Jay Garrick (Associate Choreographer) is a student at The Catholic University of America receiving a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre. This is his first time working at Gonzaga High School. He would like to thank the entire production team, cast, and crew for putting in countless hours of hard work and dedication, creating this amazing production, and welcoming him into this wonderful department. Regional Theatre Credits: Joseph… Dreamcoat, Legally Blonde, Hairspray; Educational Theatre Credits: The Enchantress, Man of La Mancha, On The Town, Cabaret, Finian’s Rainbow, The Drowsy Chaperone; Upcoming Productions: Big Nate at Adventure Theater and A Chorus Line at Olney Theater Center. Mrs. Meghan Goldsmith (Producer) is rounding out her twelfth year as a member of the production staff. Memorable shows include Singin’ in the Rain ‘99 (her only show on the Gonzaga stage), 42nd Street ‘02, Guys and Dolls ‘06, West Side Story ‘08 and Kiss Me Kate ‘11. She is blessed beyond words by the opportunity to continue to work with such passionate and committed adults, enthusiastic and

talented students, and by far the most dedicated house crew in town, and all while enjoying this beautifully renovated space. Her wish is to continue for years to come to be able to call this work her “fun job.” A big thank you this time around goes to the Grandparents of the Century for keeping Matthew the Munchkin loved and cared for, and she keeps her fingers crossed for the speediest of recoveries for her wonderful, if unfortunately accident prone husband Dan, her newly minted “Man of Steel.” The storied saga of Mr. Xavier Halloran (Technical Consultant) twists long, from the local Washington, DC to far off realms near Philadelphia. This marks his 10th GDA production, and before waxing rhapsodic regarding performances of antiquity, he’d like to indicate that this set belongs to a select society of highly advanced construction, perhaps even the pinnacle of sets yet to grace this stage. Shout out to whoever wishes me to provide shout outs. Thanks to the managers for managing their various managed positions. Mr. Allan L’Etoile ‘73, HoF ‘12 (Director) thanks Gonzaga for letting him teach and work on plays here. Since he started doing so, he has been fortunate to work with his sons, Matt (stage crew 20022006) and Nate (cast 2002; 2009-2012), and his nieces Colleen and Theresa. He is very proud of the cast and crew of 42nd Street and, because he gets to work with such great kids, he knows that he has the best job in the world. Thanks, Marie. Mr. Matthew Nolan ‘07 (Drums) serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Gonzaga Band Department and is currently appearing in his fifth GDA musical. He is an alumnus of Loyola University New Orleans where he earned a degree in Jazz Performance. Outside of his teaching commitments, Matt plays all over the east coast with The Morrison Brothers Band, a popular country rock group. He also performs regularly with a number of up-and-coming jazz artists in the Washington/Baltimore area. Matt plays Sonor Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks and DW Hardware. Dr. John C. Warman ‘57, HoF ‘99 (Musical Director) is back for his seventy-third show and second 42nd Street in this historic theater. As a Gonzaga student he appeared here in the Mission Variety Shows of 1956 and 1957, and as a faculty member has been involved in the 1967 production of Oedipus Rex, three alumni revues (1996, 2006, and 2013), and sixty-seven productions of fifty-two different musicals (1968 to the present) as Associate Producer of the first four, Producer of the next forty-six, Director of sixteen, and Musical Director of all sixty-seven, piloting over 350 performances from the pit piano. He would like to thank his fellow directors Philip Rosato, Domenic Teti, Peter Hackett, J-Glenn Murray, Michael Bobbitt, Damian Didden, Tri Garraty, Allan L’Etoile, Roger Schlegel, Paul Buckley, and most especially Brother Jon King, his collaborator on twenty-five productions. Thanks also to his dozen technical directors, dozen assistant directors and choreographers, costumer Joan Pekin, producers Paul Buckley and Meghan Goldsmith, and above all, the many hundreds of students (some now in their sixties!) who have built and performed these shows, and the many thousands of you who have been their loyal supporters. Inducted into the Gonzaga Theater Hall of Fame in 1999 as its inaugural member, Dr. Warman can be found by day teaching Greek and Latin at Gonzaga, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays presiding over the music of the liturgy from the organ benches of Our Lady of Victory on MacArthur Boulevard NW, Immaculate Conception on Mundell Way at 8th and N Streets NW, and Saint Mary Mother of God at 5th and H Streets NW. Ms. JZ Zaeske (Choreographer) is currently an undergraduate at The Catholic University of America. Her most recent performance credits include: Understudy for Joan & Ruby in Dames at Sea, Doris Day in Sisters of Swing at Infinity Theatre Company; Ghost of Christmas Future in A Christmas Carol at Steel Beam Theater; Adelaide in Guys & Dolls at Paramount Theater. Her most recent choreography credits include: Annie Get Your Gun, Kiss Me Kate at Gonzaga College High School; 12 Dancing Princesses, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Robin Hood at Steel Beam Theater Children’s Theater; Requiem, Enchantress at Catholic University. Her guest choreography credits include: The Last Five Years at Limelight Theater & 1st Stage; Over the Tracks at Steel Beam Theater Children’s Theater; A Christmas Carol at Gonzaga College High School. Her assistant choreography credits include: Oklahoma at Theater on the Hill. Her Assistant to the Choreographer Credits include: Sisters of Swing at Infinity Theater Company, and The Drowsy Chaperone at the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music. She is also the Founder of Pure Alignment Dance Company at Catholic University as well as having resided as Artistic Director of the Company for two years during which she choreographed a number of pieces for the company.

Gabriella Barbuto The Academy of the Holy Cross Class of 2014

In 2002 at the age of 5 you sat in Gonzaga’s historic theatre as a witness to the production of 42 Street! Now, 12 years later, you grace the stage with the opening of a newly renovated theatre and are blessed with a role to forever remember! Remember the world is your stage!

We are so proud of you!

Love, Dad, Mom and Mary Theresa

Bios Ava Baker (Featured Dancer) is thrilled to take part in the opening of the new theatre. She has performed in previous productions here at Gonzaga and would like to thank GDA for making her experience an unforgettable one. Claudia Baker (Ensemble) is thrilled to be 42nd Street! She thanks Mr. L’Etoile, J-Z, Jay, Doc, her home girl Eliza for keeping it classy since 1998, Julia (a driving goddess), and MetroSquad for Les Miz, bacon, and laugh attacks. FRIDAYS!!! Eliza Baker (Ensemble) is excited to be in 42nd Street! Thanks to Mr. L’Etoile, JZ, Jay, her homegirl Claudia for keeping it classy since 1996 and metrosquad for BACON! Gabriella Barbuto (Peggy Sawyer) has 60 words (finally earned the most) to tell you that she is a junior at Holy Cross and is ecstatic to be in her 5th production at her home, the GDA. It is an honor for her to have closed and opened the theater. In 2002, she saw 42nd Street at Gonzaga and after a long emigration from Allentown, it is surreal for her to take the stage as Peggy. Thanks to the NYPD Cop, the fav screw group text, the trio with muffin, and A-train. Welcome back to all the past GDA-ers and love to the seniors who she can’t live without next year. Special love to the unstoppable Winnie and Annie, now Peggy and Dorothy, because she knows singing their last duet onstage will be memorable. Joe Barron (Stage Crew) wishes to congratulate himself on 3 years of exemplary performance safe guarding the audience immersion behind closed doors. Thanks also to Peter Fafara for his inspiring commitment to the arts. This is Nicholas Bennett’s (Light Crew) fourth show at Gonzaga. He has been on stage crew for all four years. He is proud to be in the first group of students who work in the Sheehy Theatre and Warman stage. He would like to thank Corey Ferrick and Timothy Kokotajlo for everything they’ve done. Both of them have helped him more times than he could count, and he learned almost everything he knows from them. Joseph Biegun (Stage Crew) is having a wonderful time helping build the set and prepare for the show with the new friends he has made at stage crew. As a freshman apprentice to the experienced sound crewmembers, Sam Biegun (Sound Crew) helps anyway, and occasionally works on building sets. Shout out to Peter Marco, Gabe Agutes, Holden Mauk, and any of my brethren here tonight. Derrell Bouknight (Loft Crew) is proud to take part in his fourth GDA production. He wants to acknowledge Darby, Kelsey, and Hunter for being awesome acquaintances, and all of the seniors in the show for an amazing production and as they move forward. Much love to her parents, the 12AW and everyone at GDA for all their support. XO’s to an incredible cast! Lexi Brennan (Ensemble) is both excited and melancholy to be finishing up her fourth and last show with the GDA. She loves the family they have all created here, and can’t believe how quickly it is all coming to an end. Though learning how to tap has been the greatest struggle she has ever faced in this life, she is proud to say that she has sort of overcome it. PKATH forever <3 She loves everyone in this cast and does not know what her life now would be like without it.

Thanks to Mr. L’Etoile, Mr. Buckley, Mrs. Goldsmith, Doc and JZ for all the work they have put into the show and to all his friends for making this a great experience. Trey Cruser (Co-House Manager) is a senior and a co-house manager. He has been tearing tickets since he was a little sophomore. He has learned the job of ushering and now his fellow house crew members look to him for support in times of need. He went on the New York trip for the first time, and it made him a better usher and person. Of course he could thank everyone for being awesome, but he would especially like to thank Mr. Buckley, Meghan, and his bro David White. To end he would like to say, just keep doing what you do! Joey D’Achille (Stage Crew) is on stage crew, and having a great time. He thanks you all for coming to the show, and he also thanks Mrs. Goldsmith for continuing to write his bios.

Laughing Often, Always Dancing, Singing Occasionally, Freed Moves to the Oscillation of the New Entertaining Year. Emily Fuldner (Assistant Stage Manager) is in her fourth and final show of GDA. She works on the crew side of the stage, and she loves it. She sometimes gets jealous of the actors because she wishes she could sing and dance with the ease that they can but you know, what can you do. She wants to thank all her fellow screwers, most exclusively Claire Dolson, and sends a warm thanks to the rest of her GDA family.

Congratulations to the best dancer 42nd Street has ever had! We’re so proud of you Brandon! Love, Mommy, Shari, and Eliot, II

Enjoying stage crew for the second time this school year has been fun and was a neat experience. Timothy Kokotajlo (Light Manager) is the Lux Cantavit Procurator. He hates vertical extension ladders, sudden movement from lights that are supposed to be stable, and normal small talk. He loves his brain, Jesus-wrenches (T-wrenches), houses of light, and his custom stool-chair. He has figured this out from his work in the metaphorical rigging of half a dozen Gonzaga shows. She’ll miss this crazy family next year! She’d like to thank Mom & Dad for their love and support, A-train for keeping her on the right track, Mr. B and Doc for all their hard work, and Muffin for being the BEST. A Brief History of the Gonzaga Dramatic Association

One of Gonzaga’s oldest and proudest student organizations, the Gonzaga Dramatic Association (GDA) was officially established in 1863, although the school had been putting on plays for the preceeding forty-two years. The GDA stages two productions each year; a smaller comedy or classical play in the fall, and a larger musical in the spring. Since 1965, the GDA has had a rich tradition of drawing girls from the region’s high schools to play female parts in its performances. Recent productions have benefitted from girls representing Georgetown Visitation, Academy of the Holy Cross, Oakcrest High School, Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, Connelly School of the Holy Child, Bishop O’Connell High School, Woodrow Wilson High School, Elizabeth Seton High School, Bishop Ireton High School, Archbishop Spalding High School, St. Mary’s High School of Annapolis, and Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, as well as several home-schooled girls. GDA actors and actresses often go on to professional theater, and in 1999 the Gonzaga Dramatic Association Hall of Fame was established to honor these individuals, as well as those who continue to contribute to the Theater Program at Gonzaga. The GDA inspires great loyalty in its members; five of eight current members of the production staff were involved in the GDA during their high school years. Current GDA members and alumni lend their talents to raise funds for the Dr. John C. Warman ‘57 Scholarship Fund at Gonzaga by performing in benefits.

The Gonzaga Dramatic Association Would Like to Thank the Sheehy Family and the Members of and Contributors to the Keeping the Promise Campaign As Well As the Architects at and

For Their Wonderful Work in Transforming the new Sheehy Theater

Please, Take a Seat...

Keeping the Promise is a recurring Gonzaga theme. During her first seventy-five years in hand-me-down and makeshift facilities, and through some decidedly lean times, Gonzaga promised the world that she was here to stay. She kept that promise in dramatic fashion at her Diamond Jubilee in 1896 with the opening of the first permanent structure she had ever built for herself. Remarkably, it was a full-fledged theater with stage capabilities on a professional scale and seating on two levels for an audience of several hundred. It has now been in continuous use for well over a century and is still one of Gonzaga’s greatest treasures...The theater needs to retain and restore its Victorian charm and at the same time provide for the comfort of present-day audiences. The stage needs to meet modern technical requirements and safety standards, and much-needed backstage facilities are overdue... It is clearly time to keep the promise once more, and it is encouraging to know that Gonzaga never fails to do so. Dr. John C. Warman, Gonzaga Class of 1957 Honorary Campaign Chair For more information on TAKING A SEAT in support of the Keeping the Promise Campaign, please contact Daniel Costello, Vice President for Advancement at dcostell@gonzaga.org
