At its core, the Addams Family is about…you guessed it, family. It’s about how lucky some people are to have a family who loves and accepts them exactly as they are, and it’s about what happens when people feel forced to become someone they aren’t. The various Addams…es struggle with their sense of self throughout the show- Gomez, trapped between his loyalties as husband and father; Morticia, struggling to reconcile her conceptual ideal of her life with its reality; Wednesday, trying to figure out how one can both be sappily head-over-heels in love AND be the kind of person who would “poison her own brother just for the ride in the ambulance.” Fortunately, they do so surrounded by the unconditional love of an (admittedly very unusual) family that treasures each of its members and will stand by them, every time. The Beinikes have it much worse- for them, at the start of the show, the battle has already been waged and lost, their true selves buried to meet the demands of a society that cares little for who they really are as long as they fit its prescribed roles. If not for a chance meeting in Central Park with a strange girl carrying a crossbow, Lucas Beinike likely would have grown up just like his fatherstifled, frustrated, and angry- and his parents would have remained trapped in their societal prisons as well. As it happens, these characters inhabit the world of musical theater, where such chancemeetings are in ample supply. Not all of us are so lucky.
Fortunately, the students of the Gonzaga Dramatic Association are. From a range of schools, backgrounds, ages, and experiences, these remarkable young people have come together to forge exactly that- a family. A family that cares about each of its members dearly, that sacrifices for them, that stands together to celebrate triumphs and to hold each other up in the face of adversity. It is a place where you can be exactly who you are and know you will be loved for it, unconditionally. In a world full of forces that would like nothing better than to strong-arm these students into conforming to someone else’s ideal, the GDA stands as a place they can be their real selves- their best selves. It’s a tremendous honor and privilege to work with these students. I couldn’t be more proud of their talent, their dedication, and above all, their character and devotion to one another.
25 years ago, I stepped out onto the stage here at Gonzaga to be in my first full-length musical (1998’s The Pajama Game), just as many of our students will tonight. It was a different era and a different theater, but the spirit remains the same. I found in the Gonzaga theater the freedom to learn and grow as a performer and as a person. I am so proud that our students today carry on that same tradition. It truly goes to show, here in the GDA as at 001 Cemetery Lane…”It’s family first/and family last/and family by and by!”

Mr. Andrew Bevilacqua (Stage Crew Moderator) is happy to be involved in his fifth show at Gonzaga. A member of Gonzaga’s English Department, Mr. Bev has served as the GDA’s Stage Crew Moderator for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Into the Woods, Almost, Maine, and Gonzaga’s Bicentennial Celebration. Last year, Mr. Bev appeared on the Gonzaga stage as Detective/Dr. MacLean in Murder at the Limbic Center during Gonzaga’s Festival of OneAct Plays. (Special thanks to John Jerro for casting him!) He’s proud of the student cast and crew members for all their hard work in making this show so special and awesome. He would like to thank the GDA adult staff members -- especially the awesome Ms. Menconi, as his often-repeated description of their work together is: “Ms. Menconi is the brains, and I am the Bev.” Live long and prosper!
Mr. Paul Buckley ‘86, HoF ‘16 (Producer/GDA Moderator) has been involved in about 60 productions over the years, but this is the first musical he has done with both his son and daughter in the production. And presumably it will be the only one, so he is enjoying the moment. He thanks his stellar production team, the seniors for their talent and steadfastness over the years, and Monica and Gabe for keeping the house afloat while the three of us have been away. Mr. Andrew Curtin ‘01, HoF ‘15 (Director) couldn’t be more proud of the entire company working on The Addams Family and is thrilled to be working on another Gonzaga musical, 25 years after his first one (The Pajama Game, 1998). He has spent the last 17 years teaching theater and social studies at Park View High School in Sterling and Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, and is in his first year of service here in the social studies department on Eye Street. He would like to thank the GDA for welcoming him back with open arms, the Addams cast, crew, orchestra, and staff for their tireless efforts, especially Ms. Kate Griffith, without whose wearing of many, many hats this production would not have been half as creepy, kooky, mysterious OR spooky. Lastly, and most importantly, a very special thanks to his wife Anna and son Brennan for their unwaivering support and understanding of the completely unreasonable demands of a life of musical theatre!
Mrs. Meghan Goldsmith, HoF ‘18 (Producer) is in her 22nd season as a member of the production staff. Memorable shows include Singin’ in the Rain, Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me, Kate, Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast and The Laramie Project. Thank you to Paul, Andrew, Kate, Marika, Sarah, Lucia, Kimberly, Sophia and Bev for being wonderful colleagues and creators. Congratulations to the cast and crew, especially the seniors, on all your hard work in putting this show togther. Welcome to all of the students (and parents!) for whom this is their first GDA show - we’re so happy you’re here with us. Ms. Kate Griffith (Assistant Director) is so proud of the cast and crew for their work on another incredible production! She is continually grateful for the production team: Paul, Meghan, Sophia, Bev, Sarah Frances, Marika, Kimberly, and especially her directing partner, Andrew. Memorable directing credits include: The Curious Incident…, Into the Woods, Matilda The Musical, and Death She has a Masters in Theatre Education and has been directing, producing, and teaching drama for the past decade. She also tap dances, moderates Gonzaga’s Improv Club “No Boys Allowed,” and teaches Geometry at Gonzaga.
Ms. Lucia LaNave (Music Director) is a music director and pianist based in VA, and is an active member of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM). Recent credits: “Kinky Boots” (Sub. Keys 2, Olney Theatre Center); “Bat Boy” (Music Director, American University); “‘The Hello Girls,’ ‘Urinetown,’” “As You Like It” (Music Director, The Theatre Lab); “Bright Star” (Music Director, Levine Music Theatre); “Lucky Stiff” (Music Director, Nextstop Theatre Company); “The Christmas Angel” (Music Director, Creative Cauldron); “Little Shop of Horrors” (Assistant Music Director, Constellation Theatre Company). Along with her production work, she has participated in several new musical workshops: “Inside My Head,” written and composed by Zak Sandler (Music Director, The REACH at the Kennedy Center); “Vanishing Girl,” composed by Bill Yanesh and written by Hope Villenueva (Rehearsal pianist, Flying V Theatre). She has had the pleasure of working with Broadway talents, including accompanying Lisa Howard (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) in concert. She teaches voice and piano for both Metropolitan Studio of the Arts and Blue Feather Music, and accompanies for the musical theatre program at American University. She is a judge for the Virginia High School League (VHSL) One-Act Theatre Competition.
Ms. Sophia Menconi (Technical Director) is thrilled to welcome audiences to The Addams Family, her fifth show with the GDA and third as Technical Director. This is the most technically complex show she has overseen with the GDA, and none of this would have been possible without the stage crew’s senior leaders: Anthony, August, Dan, and Patrick. Thank you to Bev, Cisco, and Kate, who went above and beyond while supervising and supporting the stage crew. Thank you to Andrew, Meghan, and Paul for putting this whole production together. Finally, she would like to thank her partner Sam who always had a warm dinner ready for her at home!
Mrs. Kimberly Notarianni (Costumer) is in her 7th season as costumer for the GDA and is thrilled to be part of the production staff since 2019. Mom of Spencer (‘17) and Maddie Rose (SR ‘19) she has been costuming the GDA since Mr. Buckley roped her in immediately after chairing Gonzaga’s 35th Anniversary Gala in December of 2016. “Mrs. Noti” has one cardinal rule: Thou shall not eat in costume -- and she always has a secret candy stash in the cage. She promises that all performers will learn how to properly hang up a pair of pants by the end of their GDA career, and she never misses an opportunity to add a little sparkle or sequin to each show. A special shout out to Dr. Noti for his patience with late theater nights, hot glue guns, stray rhinestones, and musical theater playlists!
Ms. Sarah Frances Hope Williams (Choreographer) is in her 9th year with the GDA. Sarah Frances is an actor, choreographer and teaching artist in the DMV. She graduated from The Catholic University of America Department of Musical Theatre. Previous GDA shows are Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, Grease, Footloose, Fiddler on the Roof and Hairspray. Previous performing credits include Beauty and the Beast, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Saturday Night Fever, Urinetown and more. Sarah Frances is the Department Chair for Levine Music Theatre at the Levine School of Music. For Mom and Dad always.

This is Chris Delaune’s (Ancestor) first play and he can’t wait to see how it turns out. In addition to theater, he is involved in Model UN and he plays water polo yearround. Stay weird and enjoy the show!
Dakota Dorsey (Thing) is in her third and final show with the GDA. She’s been proud to call Sheehy Theater her home for the past three years and hopes everyone appreciates the effort put in to make TAF spectacular. Shoutout to her twin Lucas 2.0!
Gabriel Dorsey (Lucas Beineke) has played roles from Rapunzel’s prince in Into the Woods to Sheldon J. Plankton in Spongebob The Musical. This is Gabriel’s last show, and he is forever grateful for all the casts, crews, and directors who made his GDA experience. He hopes you enjoy The Addams Family.

Alana Parchment (Ancestor/Featured Dancer) is thrilled to make her first appearance on Gonzaga’s stage with the GDA. Previously, she participated in Stone Ridge’s productions of Anonymous and Beauty and the Beast. Though she is graduating, she is eternally grateful for the experiences and friendships this show provided.
Sofia Parfomak (Alice Beineke) is a senior at Bishop O’Connell and thrilled to be in her 2nd GDA production (if you count SpongeBob). She’s happy Mary Claire is in the show too so they can carpool--and debrief--together. GO KNIGHTS!!
Ryan Parlett (Ancestor) is a senior at Gonzaga, and this is his first and only show in the GDA. It’s been a ton of fun getting this ready for you all, and he hopes you like it!
Colin Phoel (Cello) is excited to be playing the cello for The Addams Family. He thanks you for coming, and hopes you enjoy the show!
Joseph Portolese (Sound Assistant) is excited to work his second show at Gonzaga and is looking forward to the next three years on sound crew.
Liam Reed (Ancestor/Featured Dancer) is a junior at Gonzaga. This is his first year in the GDA and he’s loved it so far. He is also in the Gonzaga Chamber Choir and loves musical theater. It’s been really fun to work with everyone and put on a great show this year!

Ella Schmidgall (Ancestor) is excited to be back in another GDA musical after she had tons of fun as the Stepmother in last year’s show! She loved the inside jokes, long hugs and belting The Addams Family soundtrack with the cast in the dressing rooms. She will miss the memories made with everyone and is excited to perform this creepy comedy. Enjoy :)
This is Ryan Scott’s (Ancestor) first play. He has had the time of his life working with his castmates and looks forward to participating in the GDA over the next four years.
This is Brendan Seay’s (Lights Assistant) 5th show on Eye Street, and up until the show, he spent most of his time searching for safety glasses and pretending to be busy rather than actually doing work.
Erin Shannon (Ancestor/Featured Dancer) is very excited to be in her first show with the GDA. Previous shows outside of the GDA include Addams Family Jr. and Beauty and the Beast. She would like to thank her friends and cast mates for making her time with the GDA such a special experience, and to her family for supporting her always and driving her to DC every day!
Matthew Shumaker (Mal Beineke) is thrilled to end his time with the GDA strong with such a great cast, crew, and creative team. Dante Soriano (Run Crew) is excited to be joining the GDA in his first show. He enjoys cooking and sleeping in his free time. Thank you audience for being here!
Mila Taylor (Run Crew) is a freshman at Visitation, and this is her first GDA show. She would like to thank the audience for coming to see the show.

Mary Turner (Ancestor) is excited to be in her first show with the GDA. She enjoys watching TV shows and movies and playing the clarinet in her spare time. Love to everyone in the audience – enjoy the show!
This is August van Geertruyden’s (Set Designer) fourth show and his second as a member of tech crew. He is extremely proud of the hard work the crew has put in to bring this vision of a set to life. Enjoy the show!

Milton is a freshman, he plays soccer and he wrestles, is a member of the Onyx club and is excited to continue his career as a GDA member. Before Milton attended Gonzaga, he was a part of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Milton would like to thank is family and friends for all the support!
