Production Staff Bios Mr. Paul Buckley ‘86 (Producer) has spent many hours in this beautiful theatre. He is extremely grateful to his seniors for being such quality people as well as quality performers. He thanks Meghan, Allan, Doc, Sarah, JZ, Kevin, Matt and Xavier for the great work they have done all year. They made this an easy year during an incredibly busy time. He is beyond excited for the upcoming renovation, just so he can finally get an office he can call his own. Most especially, he is eternally grateful to Monica for her help with costumes and for her patience and understanding. Lastly, he wants Anthony, Caroline and Gabe to know that will start seeing him more for dinner, once the JV tennis season ends. Messrs. Kevin Ferrick ‘04, Xavier Halloran ‘05 & Matt McCord ‘04 (Technical Directors): “Well, they couldn’t keep us away for long; we are back, and this time we are actually in charge of the crew. We are now (mostly) contributing members of society, and somehow we have found time to take over for Mr. Theriaque as Technical Directors. Combined, we have more than twenty shows under our belts, but we still could not have done this without the help of: Mr. Buckley and Mrs. Goldsmith for letting us spend someone else’s money, Mr. L’Etoile and Miss Miller for giving us set direction, and of course the crew for doing all the hard work they have done.” Meghan Goldsmith (Producer) is closing out her eleventh season as a member of the production staff, and she is incredibly thankful and humbled to have had the opportunity to partake in so many wonderful and exciting productions in this historic place before its’ close. As bittersweet an event as it is, she is also thrilled to pieces that the promise of a new theatre will soon be a reality. As always, she would like to thank Paul, Allan, JZ, Sarah, Kevin, Xavier and Matt for making this her favorite place to work, the cast and crew for being awesome, the house crew for being the best in town, and Dan and Matty for being her two favorite reasons to leave the theatre.
Allan L’Etoile ‘73 (Director) played his first theatrical role as a photographer on the stage at his elementary school, Our Lady of Victory, Washington, DC, in 1964. He’s directed a lot of shows here since 1996 including last fall’s A Christmas Carol, and he is most happy that he’s been able to work with both of his sons, Matt and Nate, as well as his nieces, Colleen and Theresa, on the Gonzaga stage. (And his wife does makeup backstage!) That he gets to work with the all the kids you see on stage tonight makes his, he thinks, the best job in the world. Ms. Sarah Miller (Assistant Director) teaches English at Gonzaga, and she considers that to be quite the blessing. She is exceedingly proud to have been a part of such a historic production with such a talented group. There is, after all, “no business like show business,” and she wishes all the best to the cast and crew in their performances. She offers a special note of gratitude to Allan, Doc, Paul, JZ, Meghan, Xavier, and Matt for all their hard work. Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and as always, go Irish. Dr. John C. Warman ’57 (Musical Director) is back for his seventyfirst show in the Gonzaga Theatre. As a student he appeared in the Mission Variety Shows of 1956 and 1957, and as a faculty member has been involved in the production, direction, and musical direction of Oedipus Rex (1967), two alumni revues (1996 and 2006), and sixty-six productions of fifty-two different musicals, piloting over 350 performances from the pit piano (1968 to the present). He is a teacher of Greek and Latin by day and an organist and choirmaster on weekends. In 1999 he was inducted into the Gonzaga Theatre Hall of Fame as its inaugural member. JZ Zaeske (Choreographer) is currently a junior at CUA. Past Choreography Credits include The Last Five Years at Limelight Theater and 1st Stage; The Little Mermaid, 12 Dancing Princesses, Robin Hood, Over the Tracks, and Pinocchio at Steel Beam Children’s Theater; Requiem and The Enchantress at CUA; Kiss Me Kate at GDA. Past Roles Include: Helga in Cabaret, Rajah Bimmy Girl in On the Town, Diana in Nine, The Pearl Lady in Thoroughly Modern Millie at CUA; Adelaide in Guys & Dolls at Paramount Theater; Ghost of Christmas Future at Steel Beam Theater; Dance Captain of Meet Me in St Louis at Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theater. Has Attended Broadway Theater Project, Flying Swan Acting Conservatory, and Carnegie Mellon’s Pre-College Summer Program.

The House of Buckley has managed to live with drama in many of its forms. It helps to have a large cast. Our leading player, a son - Gonzaga ‘78 - was not an actor. He eschewed theatrical dramatics for those of normal growing up. Our second son - Gonzga ‘79 - however, was an actor: Fiddler on the Roof and Guys and Dolls here and on to bigger but not necessarily better productions at St. Joe’s. Our third son - Gonzaga ‘80 - did not appear behind the footlights but he helped to set them up. Our fourth son - Gonzaga ‘82 - likewise worked the loft and the stage crew but also had a brief walk-off (!) in West Side Story. Our first daugher - Immaculata ‘84 - trod the boards in West Side Story, On the Town, and Good News. Our fifth son - Gonzaga ‘86 - took up the life with a vengeance here and at Holy Cross and has never really let it go. Our second daughter - Connelly School of the Holy Child ‘89 in bookend fashion like her oldest brother eschewed the stage, although she does work for Wells Fargo, ironically enough. As for the future - well, there are a couple of grandsons who seem to be lively types...
John & Rosemarie Buckley

If you continue to do what’s right in the eyes of the Lord, your reign will be a very fruitful one. We pray you strength, blessings and peace; a peace that surpasseth all understanding. Please, Take a Seat...
Keeping the Promise is a recurring Gonzaga theme. During her first seventy-five years in hand-me-down and makeshift facilities, and through some decidedly lean times, Gonzaga promised the world that she was here to stay. She kept that promise in dramatic fashion at her Diamond Jubilee in 1896 with the opening of the first permanent structure she had ever built for herself. Remarkably, it was a full-fledged theater with stage capabilities on a professional scale and seating on two levels for an audience of several hundred. It has now been in continuous use for well over a century and is still one of Gonzaga’s greatest treasures...The theater needs to retain and restore its Victorian charm and at the same time provide for the comfort of present-day audiences. The stage needs to meet modern technical requirements and safety standards, and much-needed backstage facilities are overdue... It is clearly time to keep the promise once more, and it is encouraging to know that Gonzaga never fails to do so. Dr. John C. Warman, Gonzaga Class of 1957 Honorary Campaign Chair For more information on TAKING A SEAT in support of the Keeping the Promise Campaign, please contact Daniel Costello, Vice President for Advancement at dcostell@gonzaga.org
The world of theatre is one filled with tradition. We would like to take this opportunity to explain the use of one such tradition, the ghost light, in our theatre here at Gonzaga. The ghost light, in the simplest definition of the term, is a light, usually a bare bulb mounted within a wire cage on a post, which remains lit after all of the other lights in the theatre have been turned off. The original use was safety; in early gaslight theatres, a flame was left burning so as to maintain the gas pressure in the building after it had been closed up for the night to prevent a fire or explosion from occurring. Once the use of gas lights gave way to the incorporation of electricity, the light’s presence continued through the theatre’s other most famous vehicle: superstition. A popular theatrical superstition holds that every theatre has a ghost. It is believed that a light in the theatre gives the ghosts the opportunity to perform on stage, thus preventing angry ghosts cursing the theatre or sabotaging the current production. Also, by always leaving a light on, the operators of the theatre have a better chance of avoiding bad luck that might befall the theatre performers, or financial failure of the theatre itself. Therefore, on the eve of closing the curtain on this historic space, the Gonzaga Dramatic Association would like to offer the use of the ghost light, in honor of the many men and women who have performed on her stage, and in hopes that many more will follow in their footsteps once this space is given new life through renovation. Thank you all for your patronage, and we hope you have enjoyed our time together. It has been our pleasure.
