THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME was first presented by the National Theatre, London at the Cottesloe Theatre on August 2nd 2012 and transferred to the Gielgud Theatre, West End, London on March 12th 2013. The Play opened in the USA at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on October 5th 2014. This Play is presented by kind permission of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Welcome to the Gonzaga Dramatic Association’s production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time! This is a story of discovery, bravery, and growing up. The main character, Christopher, is curious, extremely intelligent, and determined. He is also a person with autism. The spectrum of neurodiversity is vast and Christopher’s story is not the universal experience of all people on the spectrum. This is one story, one representation. However, we hope that this production will increase awareness and empathy in the community for those who are neurodiverse. Our actors have worked hard to understand Christopher’s story and to represent that respectfully and accurately on stage. On Wednesday, members of the Sophomore class, who read the novel on which the play is based, were able to see part of the production and engage in a conversation with our Cast and Crew about bringing Christopher’s story to life on stage. We would especially like to thank Mr. Devon Leary, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Dr. Anna Curtin for their support and assistance in these important conversations.
It has been incredibly special to create this show on our stage over the past eight weeks. The Cast and Crew have worked incredibly hard to bring this story to life with authenticity and creativity. This is not an easy story to tell, but they have gone above and beyond to bring it beautifully to life. I would like to thank the Gonzaga English Department for working with us to align the production of this play with the Sophomore curriculum, especially Ms. Kathleen Clark who served as our Dramaturg and helped the actors understand the intricacies of Christopher’s story. I am also incredibly thankful to my team of adults: Mr. Paul Buckley, Mrs. Meghan Goldsmith, and Mrs. Kimberly Notarianni for their hard work behind the scenes; Ms. Sophia Menconi, Mr. Andrew Bevilacqua, and Mr. Dean Leong for their technical expertise in creating Christopher’s world on stage; and especially my Co-Director, Mr. Andrew Curtin, who has been integral to the creation and success of this production.

Mr. Andrew Bevilacqua (Stage Crew Moderator) is happy to be involved in his fourth show at Gonzaga. A member of Gonzaga’s English Department, Mr. Bev’s showbiz claim to fame is that he was once an extra in an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, although unfortunately his scene was cut. While in high school at St. Joe’s Prep in Philadelphia, Mr. Bev was a member of the production staff of the Cape and Sword Drama Society. As a stage manager, he was involved in several shows, with some cameos on stage and small roles in alumni productions. He’s grateful to everyone involved in the GDA and Gonzaga for being so wonderful and welcoming!
Mr. Paul Buckley ‘86, HoF ‘16 (Producer/GDA Moderator) is now a quarter-ofa-century man in preaching the Company Way of the GDA. He is inspired by his talented production team of Meghan, Kate, Andrew, Sophia, Bev and Kim(berly). He thanks the seniors for keeping this crazy group afloat and for helping to build it back up again. Welcome to all of the new kids for whom this is their first GDA show. He is especially thrilled that that group includes his own daughter Caroline, who, along with her brother Anthony, means that 60% of the Bowie Buckleys have an active part in this show. Maybe we should have family dinners on stage? (Except that there should be no food in the theater.) And Monica would never go for it - thank you Monica for keeping all of us in check. You too, Gabe - you’re next. :)
Mr. Andrew Curtin ‘01, HoF ‘15 (Assistant Director) has been directing high school theater since he started teaching way, way back in 2005, and is very happy to be returning to the GDA this fall. In his first year on Gonzaga’s faculty, he teaches freshman, sophomore and junior social studies. Many thanks to Ms. Griffith and the rest of the GDA team for making him feel so welcome, the fantastic cast and crew, and above all to his wonderful wife Anna and son Brennan for their patience, understanding, love and support.
Mrs. Meghan Goldsmith, HoF ‘18 (Producer) is in her 22nd season as a member of the production staff and happy to be experiencing some sense of theatrical normalcy again. Thank you to Paul, Kate, Andrew, Sophia, Bev & Kimberly for being wonderful colleagues, creators and friends. Congratulations to the cast and crew, especially the seniors, on a job very well done. Welcome to all of the students (and parents!) for whom this is their GDA first show - we’re so happy you’re here with us. Love and thanks to her amazing husband Dan, and to Matt, Katie and Emmy for graciously sharing Mommy with the big kids.
Ms. Kate Griffith (Director) has a Masters in Theatre Education and has been directing, producing, and teaching drama for the past decade. Notable previous directing credits include: Into the Woods, Matilda the Musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Death. She also tap dances, moderates Gonzaga’s Improv Club “No Boys Allowed,” and teaches Geometry at Gonzaga. She and Christopher are excited for the math and hope you stay for the proof!
Ms. Sophia Menconi (Technical Director) is thrilled to be taking part in her fourth show with the GDA! She is incredibly proud of the stage crew and all the hard work they put into this production. She would like to thank Bev and Dean for their support and technical expertise, respectively, throughout this process. Outside of the GDA, she works with the Counseling Department at Gonzaga and is a freelance stage manager in the DC area. She is currently pursuing an MA in Theatre and New Play Development at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. She sends love to her partner Sam and their two cats, Victor and Agatha.
Mrs. Kimberly Notarianni (Costumer) is in her 7th season as costumer for the GDA and is thrilled to be part of the production staff since 2019. Mom of Spencer (‘17) and Maddie Rose (SR ‘19) she has been costuming the GDA since Mr. Buckley roped her in immediately after chairing Gonzaga’s 35th Anniversary Gala in December of 2016. “Mrs. Noti” has one cardinal rule: Thou shall not eat in costume -- and she always has a secret candy stash in the cage. She promises that all performers will learn how to properly hang up a pair of pants by the end of their GDA career, and she never misses an opportunity to add a little sparkle or sequin to each show. A special shout out to Dr. Noti for his patience with late theater nights, hot glue guns, stray rhinestones, and musical theater playlists!

Anthony Buckley (Sound Designer) is ecstatic to be in his 8th show at Gonzaga. Now in his role of sound gremlin, Anthony promises to deliver the best audio this side of Alexandria, and anything that goes wrong is not his fault.
Caroline Buckley (Punk Girl/Policewoman) would like to say that she did not just get cast because her dad is the producer. She is her own person. It’s been super fun doing this with everyone and she can’t wait for the musical in the spring. She would like to thank everyone here and her family.
Henry Calpin (Props Manager) is back for his second show, both as Props Manager. He is excited to be back for the show and with the GDA.
Luke Cousins (Man with Socks/Drunk Two/Ed U/S) is making his debut performance. Luke is a sophomore that played rugby, ran track, and he is currently a member of student government. Luke thanks his mom, family, and Timothée Chalamet – for inspiring him to act.
Chris Cullen (Mr. Thompson/London Policeman) is very excited to be in this show. He is happy to not be a drunk…oh. Well, either way he wants to thank his parents and his friends and his amazing directors!
Parker Deerin (Station Policeman/Uncle Terry) is hyped to be in their third GDA production! Their previous roles include crewing for Almost, Maine and Charlie of AP Ghosthunting and Parapsychology as part of the Festival of One Act Plays. They’d like to thank their friends and teachers.
Gabriel Dorsey (Roger (Mr. Shears)/Mr. Wise) has been in GDA productions since The Laramie Project. He cannot wait for the cast and crew’s work these past few months to be put on display. Gabriel would like to thank the cast, crew, Ms. Griffith, Mr. Buckley, Mr. Bevilacqua, Ms. Menconi, and Mr. Curtin.
Megan Duncan (Judy), a freshman at Georgetown Visitation, is thrilled to be performing in her first show with the GDA! She enjoys playing piano, lacrosse, traveling and all things related to architecture and design. She would like to thank her family and friends, with special shoutouts to Caroline, for encouraging her to audition, and Brigid, for driving her from Visi to Gonzaga! She is grateful to the entire cast and crew for this memorable experience.

Phoebe Hall (Mrs. Gascoyne/Lady in Street) is very excited to be part of her second show with the GDA!
Luke Heetderks (Rev. Peters/Information) is excited to be back with the GDA after two years. He’s happy to play a named role after playing a barfly in his last two productions. He is very busy with college auditions, so talk to him in December.
Mike Hernandez (Man Behind Counter) is ecstatic to be in his first theater production. He had always wanted to participate in theater since he was in middle school; this play will be a big deal for him! He would like to thank his dad and his brothers for motivating him!
Daniel Huisentruit (Student Technical Director) made a couple of boxes and sat in the wings. A truly grueling few months it has been.
Patrick Jacobs (Lighting Designer) is excited to be working on his seventh show with the GDA. He is excited to be running lights this year and wants to thank his family for their constant support over the years.
Patrick Kopplin (Sound Engineer) is the assistant sound manager and is ready to give you the best show he can, with his experience of three shows, including the Bicentennial.
Brigid Limarzi (Mrs. Shears/Woman on Train/Judy U/S), a senior at Georgetown Visitation, is thrilled to be joining the GDA for her first production! She’d like to thank her family for being supportive, her friends for being enthusiastic, and her cousin for convincing her to spontaneously drive to Gonzaga and audition.
Lorenzo Limarzi (Ed) thinks this has been a good production process. He is very grateful to all of the adults who made it possible, teachers, moderators and parents alike. He would also like to thank the actors, especially the freshmen. He is so happy that they’re part of GDA history now.
Caleb Linn (Number 40/Shopkeeper/Christopher U/S) thanks everyone for another scintillating GDA production! As the sole junior in the cast, he has done his utmost to be the best junior. He hopes that the show is just as scintillating as the friends has made along the way!
Aidan McGee (Scene Shop Foreman) is the coolest. He can’t wait to be the shop foreman and instruct Brendan Seay! Lots of people ask him what brought him to the stage crew, and it would definitely have to be getting to build stuff.
Hugh McMahon (Paint Chief) is back on tech crew for his fourth GDA show. He’s enjoyed working as paint chief, and hopes you enjoy the show!
This is Kyle Merkle’s (Run Crew) first show with the GDA, but he hopes for many more to come. He would like to especially thank the people in stage crew for making it a very enjoyable experience for him.

Starting his fourth year in the GDA, Mathieu Saliba (Christopher) is thrilled to be playing Christopher Boone in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. A huge thank you to Ms. Griffith for adjusting the schedule for both weeks he was out sick, and to his two carpools, Matthew Shumaker and Caleb Linn.
Kate Schaefer (Siobhan), a sophomore at Stone Ridge, is so excited to perform in her first ever GDA show! She’d like to thank the cast, crew, Ms. Griffith, and her family for all their support.
Ella Schmigdall (Mrs. Alexander/Posh Woman/Siobhan US) is a sophomore in her second GDA show. She had a tremendous amount of fun performing in Into the Woods as a freshman and is so excited to perform in this play! She loves to play the piano and spend lots of time with friends.
Brendan Seay (Head Electrician) is the third Seay here. He is at the beck and call of the master shop foreman, Aidan McGee. He thinks that Stage Crew is the best but isn’t really mentally present during it. He thinks it’s fun but that’s just what he’s told.
Matthew Shumaker (Policeman/Drunk One) is excited to be the only character in the play that’s allowed to swear (don’t fact check that). He also wants you to listen to The SHUCAST. Hasta la vista, baby. C’est la vie. That’s how the cookie crumbles. Catch you later.
Johan Torres (Station Guard/ATM) is making his GDA debut. He is a fourteenyear-old freshman from Virginia. Johan came to Gonzaga from Nativity Catholic school where he appeared in various plays such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Grandpa Joe) and Julius Caesar (Titinius). He is grateful to his parents, sister and family for their love and support.
