SYNOPSIS Chicago, 1927. The streets are mean, the politics are dirty, and the newspapers are recording it all (and making some of it up!) for posterity. In the weeks before the action of the play opens, the city is gearing up for a crucial municipal election. The Mayor is running for reelection on a platform built with planks of raw fear. He and his running mate — Sheriff Hartman — are using the campaign slogan “Reform the Reds with a Rope,” to play on voters dread of Communism and the “Red Menace.” City Hall is awash in graft and corruption, though, and the citizens of Chicago are getting restless. Then, something happens that potentially seals the deal for the troubled mayor. Earl Williams, a sometimes anarchist and otherwise nobody, confronts a Chicago policeman by the name of O'Leary and shoots him dead. Williams is arrested, tried and convicted and, rather than being hanged in quick fashion, as might have been expected for such a horrible crime, he's held in jail as his execution date gets pushed back later and later — and closer and closer to Election Day. The press smells a rat; after all, there are 200,000 Irish votes at stake, and if the execution can be fresh in their minds come the day they go to the polls, it can only be good for the mayor and the sheriff. But is it the right thing for Williams? Is it the just thing, the fair thing? As the play opens, in the press room of City Hall, the reporters don't really care: they just want to get it over. Right outside their window, in a courtyard below, deputies rehearse the hanging of Earl Williams and the newsmen hope it happens soon so they can all go home. All the newsmen, that is except one. Hildy Johnson, longtime ace reporter for the Examiner, a man who has covered all the big stories in the city for the past decade and a half, has decided not to file this one. He's quit his job, told off his overbearing boss — the loud and filthy-mouthed Walter Burns — and he's getting ready to board a train with his fiancee and her mother to start a new life in New York City. And it looks like it all might work out until . . . well, you'll see.

Mr Mr.. Rober Robertt Theriaque ‘0000 (Technical Director) has been involved in this capacity since 1984. He gets a great deal of pleasure from watching the cringing reaction he receives when he tells Mr. Buckley “It’ll cost you.” He is most appreciative of the work done by his crew, and the assistance of his managers, Jeff, Andrew and Will in getting this production put together. As always, he recognizes the support of his wife Teresa, the light of his life. Meghan Thomas (Co-Producer) is thrilled to be working on her 11th Gonzaga show as a member of the production team, and her first show wearing the hat of playbill designer. She would like to thank her friends and family for continuing to keep guard over her sanity during the production craziness, Dan for loving her, “the boys” for making it fun, and the cast and crew for making it all worth while.
Production Staff: Paul Buckley ‘86, Allen L’Etoile ‘73, Roger Schlegel ‘83, Robert Theriaque ‘00 Meghan Thomas (Visi) ‘01
Mr Mr.. Paul Buckley ’86 (Co-Producer) is back behind the scenes after directing last year’s production of Guys and Dolls and is happy to once again know where all of the money is coming and going. As always he thanks the adults for their hard work, all of the kids for the fun they bring to the stage, and especially to his wife Monica and son Anthony for keeping the porch light on. Mr ’Etoile ’73 (Co-Director) appeared in TUMB and GAD as a Mr.. Allan LL’Etoile Gonzaga student, under the direction of then “Mr.” Warman. He has worked on lots of plays, most recently Footloose, SoOT and YCTIWY. He thanks his wife, Marie, for everything. Mr Mr.. Roger Schlegel ‘83 (Co-Director) is happy to be back as co-director for “The Front Page.” He thanks the kids on the cast and crew for all their hard work and dedication, the adults for their committment, and his wife Sascha and son Theo for their love.

“THE FRONT PAGE” CAST
“THE FRONT PAGE” CREW
GONZAGA COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL NOVEMBER 11, 12, 17, 18, 2006
CAST & CREW BIOS Jar Jarrrett Adams (McCall), caveman abolisher and energy drink connoisseur, is jubilant to be in his 3rd Gonzaga show (Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls), and he’d like to thank the cast, crew, and directors for their support. He also thanks T-Rock, Pat, Danny, and his parents, for putting up with his hysterical madness every day. Peace, love, and babies. Kevin Collins (Kruger) again is lending his musical expertise to the Gonzaga stage. But his real claim to fame was his appearance in Spamalot at the National Theatre where he got kicked out after only one show for being too amazing. So amazing that people rioted and caused millions of dollars worth of damage. Thankfully order was restored when he went back to high school productions. He would like to thank his family, friends, Jesus, L, B, S and M for making it all possible. (Skin Of Our Teeth, DY, You Can’t Take It With You, G&D)
Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of “The Front Page,” especially our favorite reporter, Endicott a.k.a John Connolly Love, Mom, Dad & Lizzie
John Connolly (Endicott) is euphoric about being in his 6th show (G&D, YCTIWY, DY, SOOT, Fiddler on the Roof). He would like to thank Mr. L/S/B/ T and M. Of course he would also like to thank his family and friends for making his life special. Finally, he would like to thank his uncle caveman: I guess of all my uncles, I liked Uncle Caveman the best. We called him Uncle Caveman because he lived in a cave, and because sometimes he’d eat one of us. Later on, we found out he was a bear (Jack Handey). Peter Cur tin (Diamond Louie) is thrilled to be in his fourth GDA production Curtin (SOOT, YCTIWY, G&D). Peter is a junior at Gonzaga, and was most recently seen portraying Lazar Wolf in STP’s production of Fiddler on the Roof. He would like to thank his parents, the production staff, and the cast, especially Pat and Peery the Third. God Bless! ey Davis’ (Stage Crew) first year in stage year on stage crew. He is Corey This is Cor having fun but between being nailed to walls and sawed in half for fun it takes work. He also is the resident unpaid cook petitioning for a salary, but to no avail. Michael Douglas (Stage Crew) is a freshman at Gonzaga. This is his first production with the Gonzaga Dramatic Association.
Congratulations to
Patrick Fleury Our favorite
FRONT PAGE REPORTER
Wilson Duggan (Woodenshoes Eichorn) is an obese Prussian aristocrat whose hobbies and interests include fried foods, the absence of color, deep, philosophical conversations with Jamaican soothsayers, and the study of covert political assassinations. Oh, wait; none of that is even remotely true. Wilson Duggan is just Woodenshoes. Clar Claree “the Bogotá Beauty” Duncan (Mrs. Grant) is so unfathomably irreproachable that a Tajikistani Nobel Prize winner has been appointed to write her bio. With her dainty purity only matched by her stoic enthusiasm for performing in a GDA play, Claire’s bubbly character rains flakes of golden happiness on anyone in the room with her. Oh and she’s modest too! Dennico Dykes (Policeman) is a senior in his first Gonzaga production. He thanks his family and friends for their support, and Meghan for writing his bio.
Love, Mom, Dad, Caroline and John
Dear Mollie, You’re aNORAble! We love you! D, M, J, A
Congratulations to the cast and crew of
THE FRONT PAGE From the Math Department
Payne Eddington (Stage Crew) is excited to be on crew for Gonzaga’s production of The Front Page. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support, and Meghan for writing his bio. Mark “Espo” Esposito (Walter Burns) was spawned in a small costal municipally in western Tajikistan in 1977. In 1979 he swept all 6 Nobel Prizes with his Sunlight-Powered-Particle-Accelerator-to-Convert-BulletsInto-Valium-Machine. When not spreading Capitalism in the streets of Shanghai or recruiting young Guatemalans for the “the company” he enjoys building skyscrapers out of prime numbers. (Note: 88% of this bio is actually true) (Note: 24% of the latter statement is true) William Fehringer (Light Manager) is a junior in his 2 + 1th show. He would like to thank Alex for being the actual light manager this year, while allowing me to take credit for his work. He would also like to thank Payne “Feel the Payne” Edington for taking the blame for all our mistakes. Pat Fleury (Hildy Johnson) wants to thank his devilishly good looks and charm for getting him this far. He would also like to give some credit to Choy, the donut man at Union Station, for giving him donuts, even when he couldn’t afford them.
Congratulations to the Cast & Crew of “The Front Page”
Timmy Flynn (Mr. Pincus) is a sophomore in his third Gonzaga production. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support, and Meghan for writing his bio. Kyle For Forrrester (The Mayor) is starring in his 3rd Gonzaga production. After completing his “N00B” year with the GDA, he has his mind set on future productions and is ecstatic to be working along such a fine cast in The Front Page. He thanks his family for their continuous support and wants everyone to know that junior year is the fifth ring of hell.
Have Some Fun Up There, Mr. Pincus! With Love, Dad, Mom, Janice, Colleen & Casey
Congratulations to the Entire Cast & Crew of “The Front Page”
Colleen Gallagher (Jennie) is a freshman at B-CC. Recent shows include A Midsummer Night’s Dream and You Can’t Take It With You. Thanks for all the fun and break a leg GDA! Kevin Gillingham (Sheriff Hartman) is performing in his fourth GDA production (DY, YCTIWY, G&D) and would like to announce that he has officially changed his name to Knuckles “Pinky” B. Kirby so that his and Kevin Collins’ moms would stop confusing them for one another. While this will not stop them from being confused physically, it will clear up any confusion there might be as to why a mother would name both of her twin sons “Kevin.” Jef Jefff “MiniStageManager” Grant’ Grant’ss (Stage Manager) gladsome countenance conveys his felicity to be a senior working on his sixth Gonzaga show. When not busy picking up donuts and gathering water bottles backstage to irrigate his lawn with, he enjoys crossword puzzles and leading sing-alongs in the wood room. He would like to thank walks to Chinatown (especially during tropical depression Ernesto), cake, and, naturally, duct tape. Although he wants to act, Peter Guerber Guerber, (Stage Crew) a freshman at Gonzaga, has decided to be in stage crew this year. He has no regrets.
From the Forrester Family
ew Hadinger’ This is Andr Andrew Hadinger’ss (Loft Manager) fifth play, second in loft and first as loft manager. He is realizing he doesn’t really do much but the title is cool (and so will the name be on the wall). He hopes all the newbies are having fun and are learning to listen to their superiors (a.k.a. him and Jeff). Special thanks go to Mr. T and of course the mentor Spencer.
Eliot Johnson II (McCue) is a freshman in his first production. He was in Grease as Sonny at Northwestern this past summer. He would like to thank the cast, Mr. L’Etoile and Mr. Schlegel for making him feel welcome.
To the Cast and Crew of The Front Page Our best wishes and congratulations on a job well done The Kelley Family
John “J.C.” Jor dan Jr Jordan Jr.. (Schwartz) is acting in his first Gonzaga production, and is enthusiastic about this opportunity. He would like to thank God; his parents, family (especially Granny), and his girlfriend (Ashley); and the cast & crew for making this a wonderful, fun-filled experience. A special thanks to John Connolly (Endicott), for encouraging him to audition. Live.Love.Learn Anthony Kear ns (Stage Crew) is a freshman at Gonzaga. He loves computers Kearns and has a lot of experience with sound for plays and shows. Anthony is also a D.J. Maur een Kelley (Mrs. Schlosser), a junior at Visitation, is thrilled to be in Maureen her third show with the GDA. Last year she was in YCTIWY (Alice) and G&D (hot box dancer). She would like to thank her friends, family and cast and crew who made this show amazing and her best friend Nora for writing this bio. Vince Kelley is a sophomore at Gonzaga. He has never been in a play, but kind of helped with stage crew last year. Probably more of a burden than a help. Thank you everyone.
Our best wishes to the entire cast and crew of “The Front Page” John & Mitzi Kelley and Family
Bill Kennedy (Stage Crew) is in his second show at Gonzaga, which means that Mr. T has had the pleasure of making him cry for about a year now. Yea, the big guy in the glasses is Mr. T. Wait....what are you doing? Don’t go over to him. Are you NUTS! Anyway, he would like to thank his parents, his friends and everyone that is involved with the play. Yes...even Mr. T (because he is looking over Bill’s shoulder). Megan Kr out (Stage Crew) is a senior at Yorktown High School, and enjoys Krout photography and volunteer work. She likes politics and is a strong democrat/socialist, and if you know her it’s probably through her cousin Nick. She’s really afraid of elevators and hates ripping wrapping paper. She also has cool eyes.
Kevin Leahy (Earl Williams) is a junior participating in his third GDA production, after performing in YCTIWY and G&D. In addition to theater, Kevin likes to play one of four instruments or live on MySpace. He would like to thank his parents and all his friends. One of the first things the audience thinks when they walk into the theatre is that great actors will be making the play alive, fun and fulfilling. However, the first thing the audience sees when they walk into the theatre is the funky set the stage crew has made so the actors can make the play alive, fun and fulfilling. Stephen Lee (Stage Crew) is one of those techies, and he’s proud to be a stage crew hand. Britt Lewis (Bensinger) is ecstatic to be in his 4th production with the GDA in The Front Page. He would like to thank his friends, family (especially his parents), the directors Mr. Schlegel and Mr. L’Etoile, and the stage crew for their support and their respective help in making the show possible, because without them, this show would not be possible. He is looking forward to doing more shows with the GDA in the future.
From the ensemble in "The Skin of Our Teeth" and "Damn Yankees" to Liver Lips Louie in "Guys and Dolls,” and the ever-so-finicky Mr. Bensinger in "The Front Page"... you have WOW'd our family and friends with your talent in performances over the last 3 years with the GDA. Continue to explore and enjoy the stage! Keep up the good work. Love from Mom, Dad, Nicky, Vero & Molly Mima, Tia Sonia, Tio Chicho, Rachel & Ava Tia Beca, Tio Michael, Giuli & Isa PB & Pop
Nora Lieberman (Mollie Malloy) is a junior at Good Counsel. This is her 4th show at Gonzaga after DY (chorus), YCTIWY (Gay Wellington), and G&D (Hot Box Dancer). Special thanks to the wonderful cast and crew who make everything possible. And as always, love JAMD. Katie Manfr ed (Peggy Grant) is a senior at Visitation who is super stoked to Manfred be in her fifth Gonzaga show. She would like to thank her family for their love and support, all of her friends for keeping her sane, and Howard Schultz for founding his establishment and perfecting his product. To the audience: you make this all worthwhile. Give yourself a pat on the back. Go on do it! Don’t be shy. You deserve it! Nicholas Mar cou (Policeman) is a freshman playing a policeman. He is a Marcou card-carrying ninja, and enjoys speaking in the third person. LOL. ROTFLMAO. Bobby McGowan (Stage Crew) is a current junior and this is his first year on Stage Crew. Bobby loves building sets, annoying Mr. T, and entertaining the rest of the crew. He would also like to thank all the people that gave him moral support so his dreams could come true.
Julia Moon (The Mayor’s Secretary) is a senior at Georgetown Visitation and in her 3rd show with GDA. She is delighted to be a part of The Front Page and depressed that this may be her very last show at Gonzaga. “Everyone at GDA has made my high school years complete and I love you all dearly!” “Break a leg!!”
Good luck, Katie! Enjoy your senior year on the Gonzaga stage. With our love, Mom, Dad, Liza & Jack
Tyler Moran (Stage Crew) is on stage crew for his first Gonzaga production. He thanks his family and friends for their support, and Meghan for writing his bio. James Nebeker (Stage Crew) is a junior working on his fifth show on stage crew. Building extravagant and never impeding sets is so neat over time, clearly our organization learns. He also wants to thank his friends and family for their support. Thanks. Patrick “Hazmat” Oliverio (Stage Crew) is a sophomore doing his second play for GDA. He continues the tradition that his older brother “Gerard” started by wearing camouflage pants and boots to practices and shows. “Mr. Theriaque is so awesome.” -My brother Joe O’Neill (Murphy), a charming young man who has been known to drive the girls crazy recently went back to his hometown only to find his long lost love for acting. He is dedicating this play to his loved ones and the United States of America. Alex Polcher Polchertt (Wilson) is a junior excited to be in the cast for The Front Page. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support, and Meghan for writing this bio. This is Paolo Rivera’ Rivera’ss (Stage Crew) fourth show on stage crew (SOOT, YCTIWY, G&D). He would like to thank Jeff Grant, stage manager and future host of The Price is Right; Corey Davis for being an amazing baker; Mariah Rollins for Snapple White Tea Green Apple; Andres, the Venezuelan Sensation; Andrew Hadinger and Phil Winston for being the awesome guys they are; Mr. Theriaque; and his awesome parents for their never-ending support. This is the third GDA show James Rogers (Stage Crew) has worked on stage crew for. He thanks his family and the guys for the good times, and hopes you will appreciate all of stage crew’s “hard” work.
Mariah “the girl” Rollins (Stage Crew) is a sophomore at Oakcrest and is thrilled to be working on her first GDA production. She would like to thank Mr. T for all he taught and his song and dance outbursts, and all of the other stage crew guys for such a great experience.
The Gonzaga Fathers’ Club Congratulates the Cast & Crew of “The Front Page” and invites everyone to the
es Rothe’ This is Andr Andres Rothe’ss (Stage Crew) third show as a member of the stage crew. He is a senior and has worked on YCTIWY, G&D, and of course The Front Page. Along with Paolo and stage manager Jeff Grant, he makes up a part of the almighty Stage Crew Triumvirate. Together they protect all against live wires (*cough* Paolo) and girls with power tools (no offense to Claire, Mariah, or Megan). He would like to thank the GDA for making all this possible and Mr. Theriaque for being the crazy awesome guy he is. Phil W inston (Stage Crew) is happy to be a senior and working on his third Winston show. He would like to thank all of his family and friends. Clair enson (Policeman), that Oakcrest sophomore with the amazing Clairee YYenson shoes, is thrilled to appear at Gonzaga again. (YCTIWY, G&D) She sends her thanks to N.N.N. & Julia for the rides, the amazing cast & crew, MDSGNCE, and Roger Hat. And you, for taking the time to read her bio.
